Helen Cole
Helen (Carrow) Cole, 94, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009. Helen was born in Grand Ledge, Aug. 7, 1914, the daughter of Herbert and Lila (Dettling) Carrow. She graduated from Grand Ledge High School in 1932, and from Bronson School of Nursing in 1936. She was married to Darwin Cole who preceded her in death in 1966. Helen was a resident of Charlotte since 1941 and was a Past Matron of Maple City Chapter #218 OES; she was a life member. She was Past Grand Representative of Michigan in Maine of the Grand Chapter of Michigan OES. She was a member of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church, Northside Mother’s Study Club, Business Women’s Guild, Eaton County Historical Society, and Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was a former National Council Member of Camp Fire Inc. and a longtime member of the local Camp Fire Council. She retired from the Barry-Eaton District Health Department in 1976 after 14 years employment as a public health nurse. Previously she was employed in the office of Dr. B. P. Brown and at Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by three daughters, Janet (Jim) Dunn of Charlotte, Joyce Hoedeman of Mason, Judy (Doug) Badgley of Potterville; eight grandchildren, Cheryl (Al) Bychek, Carrie (Steve) Smith, Jim (Cheryl) Dunn, Mike (Kathy) Hoedeman, Matt (Karen) Hoedeman, Marc Hoedeman, Trevor (Michelle) Badgley, Calvin (Doris) Badgley; brother, Rex (Patty) Carrow; aunt, Arelene Rickard; and many nieces and nephews; and 13 great grandchildren also survive; Curtis Calleward, Jimmy and Sarah Dunn, Mikey Bychek, Jessica and Jason Hoedeman, Bradley and Patrick Hoedeman, Austin, Alec and Ayden Badgley, and Stephanie (Ollie) Riser and Heather Badgley; and one great-great granddaughter, Shayla Mae Riser.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Dunn officiating. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton County Medical Care Facility Activities fund.

Roy Cole
Roy Theophlius Cole, Sr., 75, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009. Mr. Cole was born Feb. 25, 1934, in Bloomfield, Ind., the son of Woodrow Hollars and Catherine Cole.
Mr. Cole was a longtime Charlotte Eagles member and past president. He was an owner of J.R.’s Native American Shop and previously was a drive for Brinks Armored Car.
He is preceded in death by his son, Dennis Cole in 1966.
He is survived by his wife, Goldie Cole; son, Roy Cole Jr. of Charlotte; sisters, Deloris Netwig of Troy, Ala., Viola Landis of Tenn., Mildred Lapez of San Antonio, Texas and Agnes Eaton of Ind.; brothers, Edgar Workman of Fla., Lee Ray Workman of Fla., Harry Workman of Bloomfield, Ind., and Albert Workman of Tenn.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Church Jenson officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.

Louis Collins
Louis K. Collins of Olivet, 82, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009 at his residence. Louie was born Jan. 6, 1927 in Marshall, the son of William G. and Elizabeth Louise (Kaumeyer) Collins and had been an Olivet resident since 1962 coming from Marshall. He was a 1944 graduate of Marshall High School and had served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII. He had been the owner of the former Collins Clothing Store in Olivet, had been a bus driver for the Olivet Community Schools for many years and had served as tax assessor for the City of Olivet and the Townships of Walton and Brookfield. His hobbies included photography and radio controlled airplanes. He had filmed sporting events and participants for both Olivet College and Olivet Schools. He enjoyed performing music and participated in the local Civic Players group.
Surviving are: his wife of 56 years, Bethel (Greenfield) Collins; daughter, Lee Ann (Jeyre) Keen of Potterville; son, John (Brenda) Collins of Olivet and six grandchildren, Parker (Christy), Garrett (Kelly), Taylor and Madison Collins, Nicole Fowler and Krista Keen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Marybeth Collins in 1960, brother, William Collins and sister Elizabeth Tessin.
At Louis’ request, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009 at the Olivet Congregational Church in Olivet, with Rev. Jack Brown officiating. Memorial contributions may go to the Olivet College Athletic Department or to the charity of one’s choice. Private family interment of cremains will be at a later date in the Oakridge Cemetery in Marshall. Arrangements were made by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Christine Combs
Christine Elaine Combs, 66, of Charlotte, lost her lengthy battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009; her family by her side. Chris was born April 17, 1943 in Manhattan, NY and was the daughter of John and Tessie (Boscharski) Poseluzny.
She received a BA from Adelphi University in Long Island, NY and her teaching credentials from Michigan State University. She had been a fifth grade teacher at Galewood School, a real estate broker and co-owner of Frontier Real Estate; and worked with her husband, Jerry, at Combs Insurance Agency. She was a member of the Lansing Board of Realtors, a board member of the Charlotte Housing Services and a member of the Phi Mu Sorority. Chris was a very private, independent person and passionate about her community. Along with spending time with grandchildren, she enjoyed flower gardening and traveling. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed both the preparation and presentation of the Meal. She was a great mom!
She was preceded in death by her infant son, Timothy John Combs; husband, Jerry Combs; and her parents.
She is survived by her son, Derek (Jessica) Combs of Charlotte; and daughter, Jennifer (Alejandro) Combs-Sanchez, of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Alexandra C. Sanchez, Shane T. Combs, and Brandon C. Combs; and brothers, John T. Poseluzny and Michael Poseluzny, both of NY.
A funeral mass was held Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlotte, with Rev. Fr. Francis Mossholder officiating. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Charlotte Housing Services.

Justin Alward Converse II
Justin Alward Converse II of Alamo Gordo NM, formerly of Eaton Rapids, has gone to be with the Lord on Sept. 1, 2009. Besides spending time with his family, he enjoyed the outdoors, doing projects and building things with his hands for his home and he always enjoyed hunting. He was a Marine, truck driver, construction worker and a corrections officer until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents, Justin and Margie Converse, and brother, David.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jan; children, Tina (Jim) Brayton, Justin III (Brenda) converse and Jackie (Larry) Starkweather; step-children, Kenny and Robert Ecker; and brother Don (Carol) Converse; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Henry Cook
Henry DeVere Cook, 77, of Charlotte, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009. Mr. Cook was born March 26, 1931 in Chester Twp., Eaton County, the son of Willis W. and Marie (Boyles) Cook and had been a life resident of the Charlotte area.
He was a 1949 graduate of Vermontville High School, attended agricultural short courses at Michigan State College, had been a farmer, had been employed at General Motors for 10 years and at Owens-Illinois Glass Co. from where he retired after 29 years of service. He was a member of the Chester Gospel Church, the Charlotte Optimist Club, the Eaton Area Senior Center, the Holiday Ramblers Furniture City Chapter, had served as a Chester Township Trustee for 20 years and had volunteered at the Charlotte Recycling Center and the Eaton County Medical Care Facility. He had served on the Board of Camp AO-WA-KIYA at Stony Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Barbara (Stephenson) Cook and a brother, Dale Cook.
Surviving are his wife, Carol (Eaton) Cook; three brothers, Duane (Bobby) Cook of Charlotte, Dorr (Sondra) Cook of Charlotte and Darwin (Elizabeth) Cook of Milan, MI and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Pastor Marc Livingston officiating. Interment was in the Millerburg Cemetery, Charlotte.

Marvel Cooper
Marvel J. (Tyler) Cooper, 70, of Nashville, Mich., died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009 at her residence after a long illness. Marvel was born Oct. 25, 1938 in Windsor Township, Eaton County, the daughter of Lawrence and Eleanor (Cole) Tyler and had lived most of her life in the Nashville, Charlotte and Olivet areas.
She was a 1956 graduate of Charlotte High School.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Arlene, Donna and Carol and brothers, Lowell, Daniel and Neal.
Surviving are her husband of 50 years, James A. Cooper; daughter, Bonnie (Michael) Silsbee of Nashville; son, Frank Cooper of Lynnville, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Randy, Jason and Michelle Silsbee, Malinda (Clint) Pape, Barry and Lauren Cooper; two great-grandchildren, Macie and Clayton Pape; four brothers, DeWayne (Nancy) Tyler of Charlotte, Larry (Bonnie) Tyler of New Port Richey, Fla., Lyle (Irma) Tyler of Lansing and Gareth (Alica) Tyler of Olivet; three sisters, Leona Martens of Lakeview, Marilyn (Darrell) Clements of Bellevue and Karen (Darrel) Reid of South Carolina.
Funeral services scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Pastor Michael Fuller and Pastor David Ames officiating. Interment in the Wilcox Cemetery in Maple Grove Township.

Charlene Marcella Coopman
Charlene Marcella Coopman of Jackson, MI, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the age of 74. Born November 21, 1934 to Charles and Vera Coopman in Eaton Rapids, Michigan. Charlene had a love for music, and a passion for learning new things. In her younger years she enjoyed the outdoors, going camping and getting out to shop were some of her hobbies. Charlene is preceded in death by her parents and brother Marshall (Eva) Coopman.
She is survived by her aunt Zulma Geyssens of Belgium, cousin Sally (Jack) Earl, and many cousins in Belgium and throughout the U.S.

Jonathan Cords
Jonathan "Jay" Lee Cords, 19, of Charlotte, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 15, 2009. Jay was born on July 15, 1989, the son of John and Sherry Cords of Charlotte.
Jay graduated in 2008 from Olivet High School. He was extremely active in football, wrestling and track. He loved hunting, fishing and anything outdoors. Jay was everyone's friend, with a heart of gold. If you needed a smile, he was right there. He always had a huge smile on his face and was ready to help out whoever needed it. He will forever be missed.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Marilyn Cords.
He is survived by his sister, Jennifer Marie Cords; grandparents, Michael and Rosealee Alley of Omaha, Neb.; grandfather, Jerry Cords; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and loved ones.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Hammond officiating. Interment was in West Carmel Cemetery, Charlotte.

Kasey Courser
Kasey Scott Courser, 30, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, March 8 at his residence in Riverview, Fla.
Kasey graduated from Central Michigan University in 2003 and was employed by the Tampa Bay School System as a fifth grade teacher at Summerfield Elementary. It was at school where Kasey met the “Love of His Life”, Staci German. Kasey and Staci were married in June 2007, and Kasey became a stepfather to Sammy, a role he cherished. Kasey had a passion for th Philadelphia Eagles, the Atlanta Braves, and playing softball. Kasey had the ability to make friends easily and at his memorial celebration in Summerfield, Fla., nearly 500 people attended.
Kasey left behind his beloved wife Staci; stepson, Sammy; father, Charles Courser; mother and stepfather, Mary and Sam Bird; brother, Conrad Bird; sister, Emily Bird; grandparents, Carl and Kathy Johnson; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his family or the George Towne Memorial Fund.
A memorial service celebrating Kasey’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 11 at the Meridian Sun Golf Course in Haslett.
Murl Cox
Murl Leo Cox, 79, of Albion, Mich., died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009 at his residence after a short illness. Leo was born July 23, 1930 in Step Rock, Ark., the son of Melvin L. and Maude (Cullum) Cox. He was a retired grounds man for Albion College, was a member of the Grace Freewill Baptist Church of Albion and the Marshall Moose Lodge. He was a musician having played in a band for square dances in various places for many years and sang in church on Sunday. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Albert Sharp, Carl Cox, Burl Cox, Alonzo Cox, Calvin Cox, Willard Cox and Charles Cox; sister, Maxine Cox and half-sister, Olcel. Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Julietta (Ripley) Cox and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 16, 2009 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Pastor Earl Martin and Pastor Ellis Howard officiating. Interment was in the Lee Center Cemetery, Lee Township, Calhoun County. Memorial contributions may go to the Oaklawn Hospice.
