Brenda Cheal

Brenda Lee Brovont Cheal, of Lansing, was born to Dean W. Brovont and Grace Lee Cook Brovont on Oct. 2, 1942 at Munson Hospital in Traverse City. She was born a very special girl. One who loved to smile and treat everyone with great respect. She made her way through TC Elementary into Jr. High and High School. She marched in the high school band just in front of the trombone section, being short gave her the advantage of not being hit in the back with a trombone slide. She migrated backwards to most with her mother and father. Heading south in summer and moving north in the fall and winter. Her father taught school in TC and grew strawberries in the summer on a three to five acre pick your own patch. Brenda loved when picking season came, not because she loved picking, but she loved taking the green stuff from people that wanted the red berries. After graduation she attended Northwestern University for a two-year term in bookkeeping. From there she took off to Lansing where she landed a job at East Lansing State Bank. After only a few months there, several fellow employees asked her to travel to Hawaii with them. Her department reluctantly agreed for her to go. Then in 1968, she ran into an old Sunfield farm boy that kind of wooed her into marrying him in 1969. The couple then attended the Lansing Church of the Brethren until 1996. This went on until Ronald’s feet started itching and the couple began attending Mount Hope Church (the church with all the flags). Five years later she took flight to land a job at John Deere Warehouse in Lansing until its closing in 1972. Then remained unemployed for several years raising her son and sitting children for one of Ronald’s co-workers. Then as Jim grew older, Brenda returned to work in 1986 employed by Michigan Retailer Association until retiring in February of 2001.

She was preceded in death by both her parents, father and mother-in-law, Clifford A. and Ila M. Cheal; nephew, Richard Dean Brovont II and Jeremy Cheal. Surviving are her husband of 40 years, Ronald Lee Cheal; son, James William Cheal; brother, Richard Dean (Sue Ann) Brobont; sister-in-law, Rosa M. (Patrick) Marietta; niece, Shelly Sue (Jeff) Albert; nephews, Robert (Sherie) Brovont, Alvin Mask Jr., and Thomas Mask; five grand nieces, and four grand nephews. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 30, 2009 at the Rosier Funeral Home, Mapes-Fisher Chapel, Sunfield, with Rev. Jan Hite of Redeemer Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was in the Sunfield Cemetery. For those wishing, contributions may be made to the Eaton Community Hospice C/O RFH P.O. Box 36 Sunfield, MI 48890. She worked at Kellogg for a while, at Pennock Hospital, Mrs. Reeds, and for the IGA Store in Sunfield, and Hanna’s Locker. Always remembering to send birthday cards to those she loved.
