Evelyn Cain
Evelyn R. Cain, 57, of Omaha, Neb., died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009. Mrs. Cain was born June 4, 1952 in Charlotte, the daughter of Kenneth and Madge (Sadowsky) Putney.
Evy lived with her husband Pat in Omaha where they resided for 14 years.
She worked at West Industries in Omaha for 10 years.
Evelyn is a graduate of Olivet High School and Michigan State University. Her hobbies include gardening, feeding wildlife, caring for her large variety of pets and raising butterflies.
She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Putney; brother, Byron Putney; uncle, Aunt Shirlie Sadowsky and Uncle Paul Sadowsky.
She is survived by her mother, Madge Cooley of Mountpelier, Ohio; sisters, Teresa Ballard of Battle Creek, Dana (Dan) Smith of Auburn, Wash., and Linda Putney of Wapiti, Wyo.; brother-in-law, Bill Claggett; uncle, Gene Sadowsky of Olivet; aunt, Jeanette Sadowsky of Florida and many nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Miles and cats, Murphy, Catfish and Fritters. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home with Dr. Bill Smith officiating. Interment was in Lee Center Cemetery, Calhoun County, Mich.

Maurine “Pat” Cain
Maurine “Pat” Cain, 68, of Holt passed away on Friday, April, 27, 2009.
She was born on Feb. 19, 1941 in Lansing to Byron and Frances Penoyer.
Pat is survived by her husband of six years, Lloyd Cain; four children, Julie Seavolt, Terrie Sargent, Darlene (Tom) Price and Robert (Jessica) Harbitz; two step-children, Michael (Lisa) Cain, Rhonda Cain; brother, John Penoyer; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Melvin and Donald Penoyer; and sister, Evelyn Penoyer.
The funeral services were held Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing with the Rev. Debra Mulder of Holt Church of the Nazarene officiating. Interment followed in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Josephine Caldwell
Josephine Caldwell, of Eaton Rapids, died Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Dimondale Center in Dimondale. She was born April 6, 1918 in Eaton Rapids to Clyde Eugene and Grace Mable (Epley) Oberlin.
She enjoyed making crafts to give away to family and friends. She held many jobs in her life and was never afraid of hard work.
Josephine is survived by two daughters, Roberta Bergman of Jackson and Pauline Liner of Dimondale; 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and sister, Geraldine Williams of Eaton Rapids.
She was preceded in death by first husband, Robert Root in 1987; second husband Dewey Caldwell in 1999; daughter, Beverly Pierce in 2004; and son-in-law, Clyde Bergman in 2005.

Peter Callahan
Peter J. Callahan, 66, of Charlotte, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2009. Mr. Callahan was born Oct. 19, 1942 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Bernard and Una (Davidson) Callahan.
Mr. Callahan served in the United States Army and worked as a forklift driver for Alro Steele. He liked to dance, play pool and cards. One of Mr. Callahan's greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-son, Lonnie Anderson; great-granddaughter, Kayla Anderson and step daughter-in-law, Donna Anderson.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine; step-sons, Chuck (Judy) Anderson, Larry Anderson, Stuart Anderson and Eddie Anderson; step-daughter, Yvonne (Dennis) Moore; 17 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren and sister, Kathy (Rick) Hasselbring.
Memorial services will be held for family and friends at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009 at Dennis and Yvonne Moores, 439 N. Stine Road, Charlotte.

Ernest Calvin
Ernest Henry Calvin, 88, of Charlotte, passed away March 14, 2009. Mr. Calvin was born Sept. 1, 1920 in Grand Rapids, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ernest Calvin.
He worked for Lansing Oldsmobile in maintenance as an Oiler/Lubricator and Tool Crib Attendant retiring after 33 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma in 2003; sister, Irene Leonard; half-brother, Clyde Dietz; and half-sisters, Clara Perry and Sarah Kidder.
He is survived by his children, Dennis (Jayne) Calvin of Bullhead City, Ariz., Donna (Randy) Sebrell of Charlotte and Dan (Sherry) Gilson of Ohio; sister, Lorraine Stanton of Middleville Mich.; two grandsons, Nathan (Shanon) Sebrell and Jacob (Trish) Sebrell and one great grandson, Kevin Sebrell.
Services were held Monday, March 16, 2009 at Peace Lutheran Church with Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating. Interment at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Steven Paul Canfield
Steven Paul Canfield of Eaton Rapids, age 58 died Thursday, February 5, 2009 in Eaton Rapids, born July 5, 1950 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Glen and Jean (Caldwell) Canfield. Steve was an Eaton Rapids High school graduate, class of 1969. He had worked along side his father, Glen at the Zephyr gas station on Main and State during high school. After graduation Steve worked 10 years for the Eaton Rapids High School and later retired after 22 years of service in June for General Motors in Lansing. A member of the U.A.W. Local #602, AARP and the Street Rod Club. Preceding him in death was his father, Glen.
He is survived by his wife of 12 years LeeAnn Canfield of Eaton Rapids; step-children, Curtis (Michelle) Lownsbery of Onondaga and Deana Lownsbery of Portland; mother, Jean Canfield of Eaton Rapids; brother, Greg Canfield of Marshall; nephew, Matthew Canfield and his faithful dog, Shorty.
Steve’s requests were to have no funeral services with a simple burial close to his father in the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. For those desiring memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Steve Canfield.
Vicki Lynn (Bodell) Carey
Vicki Lynn (Bodell) Carey, age 60 of Hastings and formerly of Eaton Rapids died Thursday, December 24, 2009 at her daughters residence following a terminal illness. Born July 16, 1949 in Eaton Rapids, the daughter of Thomas and Helen (Gillette) Bodell. Vicki did many occupations through her life most notably a corrections officer at the Jackson Prison for the State of Michigan. She had a deep passion for horses as well as family. Preceding her in death was her father, Thomas and sister, Cindy fisher.
She is survived by her husband; Charles Carey; 4 daughters, Teresa Nighbert, Lyndi (Michael) Henry, Kalee Huff, and Kristie (Shawn) Crandell; 3 sons, Scott (Rhonda) Parish, Ryan Miller and Clay Huff; 13 grandchildren; mother, Helen Bodell and sister, Tammy (Ronald) Howard and several nieces and nephews.

Kenneth Carleton
Kenneth G. Carleton, 72, of Olivet, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2009 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. Ken was born May 1, 1936 in Reading to Harold J. "Buddy" and Leona (Raymond) Carleton.
He moved to Convis Township with his family as a child and has lived there since. He attended Marshall Schools. Ken's first job was at the Jetthers Slaughterhouse in Battle Creek. He then worked at Woodlin Metal, Crowell Carton, Sullivan's Dairy and Eaton's prior to going to work at Fisher Body Corporation in Lansing. He retired from there after nearly 35 years of service in 1999.
Ken met Delores E. Masters while growing up in their rural Convis Township neighborhood. The couple fell in love and were married on Aug. 8, 1955 in Angola, Ind. He was a member of Moose Lodge #676 in Marshall and the Eagles Lodge in Charlotte. Ken was an avid bowler in Marshall, Charlotte and Battle Creek leagues. The family enjoyed numerous road trips to bowling tournaments around the country. He liked to play horseshoes and was in the Moose Horseshoe League in Marshall.
To say he liked cars would be an understatement. Ken had many cars over the years that he enjoyed working on and caring for. His children all learned about washing the family car in the snow, beginning with the wheels as their first assignment. Once they had mastered those, they were promoted to washing metal with paint on it. Ken was known to participate in the occasional drag race both on and off the track. He was a member of the SR Cruisers Car Club of Lansing.
He was an enthusiastic snowmobiler and motorcyclist. He had a speedboat and enjoyed waterskiing. Ken even liked to ride his bicycle and participated several times in the Peddle Across Lower Michigan event to raise money for charity.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his half-sister, Beverly Ann (Haines) Carter.
Surviving are his wife, Delores; two daughters, Karla (Rob Brodock) Carleton of Marshall, Karen (Trevor Greenman) Lewallen of Tekonsha; two sons, Kenneth "Randy" (Mary Montgomery) Carleton of Olivet and Kevin (Lori) Carleton of Olivet; six grandchildren, Christie, Erin and Blake Carleton, Nicholas Brubaker, Haley Lewallen and Baylee Brodock; and his half-brother, James A. Haines of Harrison.
Funeral services celebrating Ken's life were held on Friday, Feb. 6, 2009 at Kempf Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Brown of Olivet First Congregational Church officiating. Interment followed in Bosworth Cemetery in Olivet.

Daniel Carpenter
Daniel T. Carpenter, Attorney-At-Law, 68 of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., formerly of Charlotte, died Thursday, April 9, 2009 in Fla.
As a kid, Dan enjoyed playing ball, working for his dad and being a class clown at Charlotte High School. Upon graduation from his beloved University of Michigan Law School, and being tired of snow, he arrived in 1966 in sunny Fort Lauderdale. His law career spanned over 42 years, and he worked hard for many organizations such as Young Republicans, the Estate Planning Council of Broward County, Goodwill and the First United Methodist Church. Dan devoted himself to teaching his children a love for God, good sportsmanship and old fashioned values. Dan’s family, friends and clients knew they could count on him for anything. Dan lived life to the fullest and enjoyed every day, even when cancer made its unwelcome appearance in 2006. He fought the good fight and was loved and will be missed by so many.
Dan is survived by his wife of 38 years, Linda; son, Matt; daughter, Amanda; brother, Peter (Connie) Carpenter and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church of Coral Springs, Fla. Arrangements are by the T.M. Ralph Funeral Home of Sunrise, Fla.
Elbert Carpenter
Elbert Carpenter, 84, of Vermontville, died Saturday, May 30, 2009. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at the Carpenter Farm, located at 7068 W. Vermontville Highway in Vermontville. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home.
