Robert L. “Bob” Brandon
Robert L. “Bob” Brandon, 63 of Charlotte, died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009 at his residence after an extended illness. Bob was born Oct. 17, 1945 in Cadillac, the son of Albert and Nellie (Johnson) Brandon and had lived most of his life in the Charlotte/Vermontville area.
He had been employed by the A. E./Hoover Co. in Charlotte for 28 years and later at the Heat Truss Co. of Lansing from where he retired. He was a member of the Charlotte Eagles.
Surviving are his daughter, Kayleen (David) Wehr of Charlotte; two sons, Bobby Dean (Dawn) Brandson of Lansing and Brian (Sara) Brandon of Bellevue; six grandchildren, Shaun Wehr, Kyle Wehr, Josh Brandon, Damon Brandon, Sierra Brandon and Kevin Brandon; four sisters, Virginia (Reggie) Potter of Charlotte, Sandra (Billie) Eggleston of Charlotte, Ruth Lawcock of Illinois and Maryjane (John) Meyers of Charlotte and three brothers, Ronny (Carol) Brandon of Holt, Donny Brandon of Lansing and Vern (Sue) Brandon of Sheridan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Sue (Tyler) Brandon in 2006, brother, Glenn Brandon, sister, Dixie Weaver and special friend, Pat Hunt.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 25, 2009 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Rev. Charles Jenson officiating. Interment followed in the Kalamo Hillside Cemetery in Kalamo Township.

Leslie Edwin Brandt
Leslie Edwin Brandt died suddenly at the age of 71. Leslie was born and raised in Eaton Rapids. He was a 1956 graduate of Eaton Rapids High School. He later became a dedicated firefighter for Eaton Rapids. Leslie then moved to Kentucky where he was a groundskeeper for a horse stable. After retiring in Kentucky, Leslie moved back up to Michigan to live with his sister Treva. Leslie was preceded in death by his mother Erma, father Arthur, brother Everett and sister Treva, along with many other loved ones.
He is survived by his nieces, Karen Kowalk and Jennifer Kowalk. Many other extended family and friends. Special dog “Cocoa”. Leslie was loved by many. His witty and flirtatious personalities were envied. His little jokes and puns will greatly be missed.

Jon Briggs
Jon C. Briggs, 78, of Charlotte, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009. Mr. Briggs was born Jan. 20, 1930 in Charlotte, the son of Carson and Dorothy (Halbiesen) Briggs.
Mr. Briggs was employed with AE Hoover for 33 years. He enjoyed fottball, baseball, golf and the Red Wings. Mr. Briggs liked to go camping and traveling to the Soo Locks, which was one of his favorite places to go.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his son, David Briggs of Charlotte; Brian (Kathleen) Briggs of Auburn, AL; four grandchildren, Erik (Lisa) Briggs, Tyler Briggs, Lisa Briggs and Amy Briggs; one great grandchildren, Julia Briggs; sisters, Shirley Briggs and Jean (Mike) Bramble.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home with Deacon Tom Fogle officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

Karl Briggs II
Karl Howard Briggs, II “Butch”, 62, of Dansville, died May 17, 2009; first born to Karl H. and Velma J. Briggs on July 11, 1946 in Stockbridge.
Butch was a lifelong resident of the Dansville area and was a graduate from Dansville High School in 1967. He was a longtime employee of Ike Burl. Butch was a true humanitarian to all, who could and did talk to everyone he met.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Karl H. and Velma J. Briggs.
He was an outstanding big brother to Kathy (Evert) Ordiway, John (Karen), Chuck, and Lori; a loving caring uncle to many nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering will be held Sunday, May 31, from 1-4 p.m. at Dansville Village Hall.

Shirley Briggs
Shirley Joan Briggs, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009. Ms. Briggs was born Dec. 8, 1927 in Charlotte, the daughter of Carson and Dorothy (Halbeisen) Briggs. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Jon Briggs in Jan. 2009.
She is survived by her sisters, Dorothy Bramble, 12 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. Theodore Bristol
Theodore Bristol, 76, of Eaton Rapids, passed away in Lansing, July 4, 2009. Theodore was born in Traverse City, Sept. 16, 1932, the son of Bethel and Mary (Dunn).
He retired from the Jet Die Company (Barnes Aero Space), after 40 years.
Theodore was a farmer for over 35 years.
He and his wife were snowbirds.
They traveled to Eustus, Florida for the past 12 years.
Theodore was very mechanical. He raced motorcycles, ran stock cars and enjoyed drag racing. He was a wonderful father and grandfather.
He loved his family very much.
Theodore was a good Christian man.
He was a member at the Jackson Seventh Day Adventist Church for 21 years and he was also a Deacon for 15 years.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene; daughter, Kris (Otto) Boyd of Pulaski, MI; son, Ted Bristol on Onondaga; 11 grandchildren, Angel Johnson, Jay Johnson, Tim Johnson, William Johnson, Jeff Boyd, Patti (Gary) Martin, Barb (Jeremy) Sheets, Tom Boyd, Kim (Mike) Hector, Jessica (Erik) Yauch, Lindsay Bristol; 31 great-great grandchildren; brothers, Danny (Carol) Bristol, Jerry (Joyce) Bristol, Roger (Sandy) Bristol; sister Mary Jo (Dick) Hays. He was preceded in death by his parents, four infant children, and great grandson, Joshua Curtis.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 9, 2009 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton Rapids, with Pastor Gene Hall officiating.
Interment was at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids.

Lisa Broach
Lisa Kay (Napier) Broach, 50, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Charlotte, passed away on March 20, 2009 after battling a long illness.
She is survived by her three children, Rosalyn Perry of Lansing, Rochelle Napier of Charlotte and Isaiah Broach of Bradenton, Fla., granddaughter, Ayrels Napier; two brothers, John (Connie) Napier, Charles (Becky) Napier; ex-husband and friend, Rodney (Bonnie) Broach and boyfriend of 10 years, Gilbert Torres.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Nathan and Fern Napier of Charlotte.
She was a beautiful young soul and will be missed by all who knew her. A celebration of life dinner will be held in Lisa’s honor at a later date.
Maxine Brown
Maxine June Brown, of Sunfield, passed away on Thursday Jan. 29, 2009 at the age of 86 at her home where she was born and raised.
She was a member of SUMC, UMW, V.F.W. Women Auxiliary in Portland, and a past 4-H leader. Maxine was a avid baseball fan who loved the Tigers. She also loved her family, especially her grand and great-grandchildren. Her favorite hobbies were knitting, crocheting, and sewing, also she loved baking, word puzzles and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Burr and Hazel (Catlin) Duffey; two brothers, Bernard, Burwell "Stub" Duffey; nephew, Jerry Duffey; and great-grandson, Travis Hoort.
Surviving are her husband, Walter M. Brown, married 63 years; five children, Larry (Nancy) Brown of Sunfield, Lynn (Mary) Brown of Tenn., Don Brown of Colo., Marge (Wade) Hampton of Mo., Carole (Mike) Beard of Portland; 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren; sister in law, Betty Duffey of Sunfield; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009 at the Sunfield United Methodist Church. Interment followed at the Danby Cemetery.

Stawrula Brumm
Stawrula (Vula) Brumm, 70, of Vermontville, went to the Lord on Monday, November 23, 2009 at Metron of Lamont.
Vula had a long battle with her illness and thought of her friends often. She came to the United States on October 31, 1965 and made her home in Vermontville. She loved her flower gardens and loved to cook. Many befriended her and those friendships endured her lifetime.
Vula is survived by her daughter Katerina (Phillip) Hosey, two sisters, a brother and numerous nieces and nephews in Greece and Germany. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Brumm.
A Memorial to celebrate her life is being planned for a future date and will be posted in The County Journal. Vula will be taken home to Greece after the first of the year to be laid to rest with her mother. To leave a personal message online, please go to Kathosey@yahoo.com.
Judy Brutchak
Judy Kay Brutchak, 62, of Big Rapids, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at Spectrum Health Butterworth in Grand Rapids. She was born July 2, 1947, in Harrisburg, Penn., the daughter of Norman and Betty (Martin) Gleim. In 1957, Judy moved with her family to the VFW National Home in Eaton Rapids, and graduated from Eaton Rapids High School in 1965.
Judy attended Western Michigan University, graduating from the Executive Secretary Program. In 1969, she married Michael Brutchak, and the couple moved back to Pennsylvania the following year. For 17 years, Judy worked at the Tobyhannah Army deport as Executive Secretary to various high-ranking officers.
Her husband Michael preceded Judy in death in 1981, and she moved to Big Rapids in 1995, where she had lived since. Judy worked for the Professional Dental Associates in Big Rapids. Family was first in Judy’s life. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, playing games and participating in school activities with them. Judy enjoyed reading crocheting, golfing, but especially the family gatherings.
Judy is survived by her companion of 28 years, Tom Smithers; two daughters, Lisa (Jason) Brutchak-Roggow of Hersey, Kara Brutchak of Big Rapids; five grandchildren, Michael, Alex, Mariah, Jake and Charlie; her sister Shirley Bruskotter of Big Rapids; two brothers, Richard (Karla) Gleim of Cresco, Penn., Randy (Mary) Gleim of Lakeland, Fla.; and several nieces and nephew3s. Judy was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law Jim Bruskotter.
Memorial services for Judy will be 1 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2009, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Pastor Dean Prentiss officiating. Memorial contributions for the Muscular Dystrophy Association may be left in care of the funeral home, where Judy’s family will greet friends after noon on Saturday.
