Debra Cowling
Debra K. "Debbie" Cowling, 51, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at the Eaton Community Hospice House. Debbie was born April 10, 1957 in Charlotte, the daughter of Charles A. and Peggy Jean (Field) Cowling, Sr. and had been a life resident of the Potterville/Charlotte area.
She was a 1975 Graduate of Charlotte High School and was employed at the Bridgewater Interiors of Lansing.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1989, her mother in 2001 and grandmother, Marjorie Bauer-Miller in 2004.
Surviving are her siblings, Sue (Mark) Norris of Potterville, Pauline Frost of California, Nancy (Kurt) Jones of Perrinton, Charles "Chuck" (Darlene) Cowling, Jr. of Midland and Mary (Dwight) Miller of Olivet; best friend, Alice Hurst, Charlotte; "special daughter," Amanda Ames of Charlotte; nieces and nephews, Matthew (Casie) Norris, Brian (Zelpha) Miller, Melissa Miller, Abby (Dan) West, Jason Cowling and Shannon Brown; great-nieces and nephews, Emily and Ethan Norris, Kirklyn, Jaden, Brenten and Leland Miller, Connor and Noah West, Gregory and Brayden Cowling and her faithful dogs, Maverick and Bear.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 21, 2008 at the Charlotte Free Methodist Church with Rev. Darold Hill officiating. Interment was in the Benton Township Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may go to the Eaton Community Hospice or the Charlotte Free Methodist Church.

Cynthia Crabtree
Cynthia Lee Crabtree, 69, of Olivet, passed away at the Eaton Community Hospice on Jan. 16, 2008.
Cynthia was a retiree of Aluminum Extrusions (A.E.) in Charlotte and she loved her dogs, Sadie and Jessie.
She is survived by her husband, Donald D. Crabtree; two sons, Randy (Robin) Easey and Al Easey; six stepchildren, Diane (Roy) Cousins, Pam (Dave) Thomas, Karen (Mike) Snyder, Kim Manning, Timothy (Joy) Crabtree, and Donald K. (Kim) Crabtree; 25 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; five siblings, Jeanette (Nelson) Allen, Buddy (Sandra) Matheny, Betty Greger, Mary Rainey, Clark (Marion) Matheny; and many nieces and nephews.
At her request, cremation has taken place and no services will be held.
Contributions to her memory are to be directed to the Eaton Community Hospice, 2675 S. Cochran, Charlotte, MI 48813 where she received exceptional care the last days of her life.

James Craven
Loving brother and uncle, James L. Craven, 81, of Lansing, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2008. Mr. Craven was born May 14, 1926 in Alma, the son of James and Leeona (Metcalf) Craven.
He was a life-time member of VFW Post 701 of Lansing, F.O.E. Aerie 1039, Loyal Order of Moose #874, 94th Infantry Association, VFW National Home and the Military Order of Cooties. He was a member of US Constabulary, 6th Calvary Association and American Legion Post 237. Serving 20 years in the U.S. Army in Korea and WWII, Jim earned the Bronze star after retiring from the Army, he worked for Oldsmobile experimental division and retired after 20 years there. Jim was an avid bowler, dancer and golfer; and he spoke many different languages.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Halina (Oleszczuk) Craven.
He is survived by his sister, Portia Barnett of Charlotte; and one nephew, Jeffrey (Diana) Barnett; two nieces, Joy (Jack) Cummings of Charlotte and Robin (Bernie) Morgan of Eaton Rapids; 10 great-nieces and nephews and six great-great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 15, 2008 at Pray Funeral Home with Rev. Karen Wheat officiating. Interment was at Brickyard Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Michigan Diabetes Association, the American Lung Association or the VFW Post 701.

Clara Bell Creyts
Clara Bell Creyts, of Eaton Rapids, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at the age of 92. Clara Bell was born on December 3, 1915, I Holt, to Vernett A. and Catherine “Katie” (Potts) Helmker, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband of nearly 63 years, Henry C. Creyts in 1998.
Surviving are: 4 children, Glenn Creyts, Lyle (Janice) Creyts, Nine (Kenneth) Reeve, and Ava (Gary) Hector; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; brother, James (Pat) Helmker; 2 sisters, Tryphena Shaft, and Iva Butler; 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Creyts and Julia Banister; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Clara Bell was a loving person to all who knew her, and will be greatly missed. The funeral service was held on March 8, 2008, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delphi Chapel, with Jack Fugate officiating. Interment followed in Maple Ridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Griffith United Methodist Church, or Eaton Community Hospice in memory of Clara Bell Creyts. The family wishes to express a special thanks to Craft Care Home of Holt for Clara Bell’s care since May.
Billy “Bill” G. Cribley
Billy “Bill” G. Cribley, age 71 of Hastings and formerly of Eaton Rapids, died Thursday, April 24, 2008. He was born April 18, 19337 in Benton Township in Eaton County, the son of Emanuel and Irene (Merrill) Cribley. Bill served 4 years in Korea with the Marine Corp. and was a member of the American Legion Post #45 of Hastings. He retired from Construction with over 30 years in Commercial Insulating and was currently working for the City of Hastings. Preceding him in death was his brother Richard Cribley.
Surviving are his wife Lona; 4 children, Peggy, Iris, Manny and Billy Cribley; several grand and great grandchildren; 2 brothers and 4 sisters, Louise Babcock of Charlotte, Charles (Norma) Cribley of Eaton Rapids, Clarabelle Scutt of Eaton Rapids and Joe Cribley of Eaton Rapids; many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 1 at 3:00 p.m. at the Potterville Cemetery in Benton Township with the Rev. Richard Taggart officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #45 of Hastings. Family will receive friends at the Skinner Funeral Home on Thursday from 1:00-2:00 p.m.
Carroll E. “JR” Crozier Jr.
Services were held Sept. 13 at the Tampa Veterans Park in Tampa, Fla. for Carroll E. “JR” Crozier Jr. with the Veterans of Foreign War Post 4283 officiating.
A native of Charlotte and a local resident of Valrico, Fla. since 1980 JR was the manager of Brandon U-Haul Store. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War Era and served our nation in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Crozier of Valrico, Fla.; sons, Ty (Liz) Crozier of Brandon, Fla., Todd (Karen) Dickens of Valrico, Fla. and David (Erica) Cole of Ft. Hood, Texas; daughters, Brigitte Crozier of Lutz, Fla., and Teryle Dickens of Brandon, Fla.; brothers, William (Ann) Crozier and Robert (Vickie) Crozier all of Charlotte; sister, Dorothy (Jim) Wood of Sebring, Fla.; eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Willard Curtis
Willard Edward Curtis, 90, of Potterville, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008 in Charlotte following a lengthy illness. He was born Sept. 1981, 1918 in Lake Odessa, the son of Grover and Georgie (Follet) Curtis.
Mr. Curtis worked at Fisher Body in Lansing until his retirement in July 1976.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and John Curtis.
Surviving are his wife, Celine (Vaillencourt); two sons, Willard Curtis Jr. and fiancé Wally Bacon of Houghton Lake, and Gary (Susan) Curtis of Gaylord; three daughters, Marilyn Jensen of Shepherd, Ruth (Richard) Franks of Allegan, and Barbara (Tim) Bublitz, of Findlay, Ohio; 17n grandchildren and several great grandchildren; sisters, Marjorie Hutchison of Grand Ledge, Hazel Bouman of Leslie and sister-in-law, Hazel Curtis of Olivet.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008 with Rev. Richard Mitterling officiating. Interment followed at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Margaret Danek
Margaret Ellen Danek, 62, of Battle Creek, formerly of Lansing, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008 in Battle Creek. Margaret was born March 4, 1946 in Louisville, Ky., the daughter of Joseph Leake and Ellen (Underwood) Morris.
She graduated from the Holt High School, and was an advocate for Huntington's Disease.
Surviving are her three daughters, Mary Ellen (Ken) Ireland of Eaton Rapids, Susan Raye (John) Ziegler of Springport, Sandra Lee Danek of Lansing; former husband, Gerald J. Danek of Leslie; three grandchildren, Cody J.D. Whittum, Katy C. Whittum, MacKenzie J.L.P. Tracy; half-brother, Jerry Underwood, Jr. of MT; half-sister, Billie Raye (Blaine) Weston of MT; aunt, Laura Jane (Terry) Housler of Climax; nephew, Nathan Weston; and niece, Donelle Weston.
A memorial service was held Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at the Wesleyan Church, Eaton Rapids. Arrangements are by the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.

James Davis
James L. Davis, 67, of St. Petersburg, Fla. died Monday, Sept. 22, 2008. Mr. Davis was born July 3, 1941 in Jackson, the son of William and Marie (Youse) Davis.
Mr. Davis enjoyed horse shows, woodworking for his family, walking on the beach and fishing in Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughters, Jeannie (Allen) Langley of Wisc., Victoria (Jerry) Lazarus of Hillsdale and Tammy (Raymond) King of Jackson; son, James Lee Davis, Jr. of Concord; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brothers, William Davis of Jackson and Harry (Penny) Davis of Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Lou (Mike) Murray; and daughter-in-law Carrol Davis.
