Drusilla Hoxie

Drusilla E. Hoxie (Lindsey), 70, passed onto Heaven in her camper at her favorite State Park. After a seven year battle with colon cancer and surrounded by her family and friends, she went to be with Jesus.

Dru retired from Waverly Schools as head of transportation. She attended South Church of Lansing. She supported many Christian activities with her prayers, super faith, time and finances. She liked to give rides in her little red convertible. She hunted, fished, ballooned, dune buggied and traveled all the while witnessing and living the example of Jesus. She was never more excited than watching someone give their life to Christ and to serve him. She faced down over six cancer surgeries as well as over 80 cancer treatments, all the while witnessing to unbelieving medical staff along her journey. We are proud of her for the way she lived her life and will try to do the same. She loved her family and never gave up on anyone. She always would look at the positive side and hoped you would also.

Dru was preceded in death by her three "big brothers," Kale, Bert, L.J. and Charles and parents, Zella (Crankshaw) Lindsey.

She is survived by her sister, Priscilla (Perky) Lindsey; three children, Lindsey (Jayne) Hoxie, Timothy (Deborah) Hoxie and Robert (Tina) Hoxie; seven grandchildren, April, Andrew, Arden, Sarah, Jennifer, James and Luke; also many friends who were like family to her.

The family would like to thank the staff of Heartland Hospice of Michigan.

Relatives and friends may meet the family at her memorial service held at Pray Funeral Home on Saturday, July 26 at 1 p.m. with Reverend David Mehnke officiating. A luncheon will follow at the First Baptist Church in Charlotte.

Spending her high school days living on a Michigan farm, Ruth never missed a Saturday night dance. It was at the White Rabbit Dance Hall where she met Lawrence “Shorty” Hyatt. After Ruth graduated from Olivet High School in 1937, the family moved back to New Jersey. Shorty spent many weekends on the Pennsylvania Turnpike visiting Ruth. Shorty and Ruth were married in 1939 and settled in Eaton Rapids, where Ruth was always actively involved in something.
