Lillian Lanstra
Lillian Jane Lanstra, 78, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008. Mrs. Lanstra was born June 20, 1930 in Detroit, the daughter of Albert and Helen Burgess.
She enjoyed knitting and reading and was employed as a clerk-typist by the City of Detroit.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Lanstra in 2004.
She is survived by her daughters, Sherrill (John) Cape of Kalamazoo, Faye (Bruce) Patterson of Walled Lake, and Christina (Dan) VanGent of Thousand Oaks, CA; five grandchildren, Sarah and Jason Cape, Ashley Patterson, Matt and Rachel VanGent; sister, Ursula (Karl) Benjamin of Lansing, and sister-in-law, Leonne Borders of Madison Heights, MI.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 29,2 008 at First Baptist Church in Charlotte with Rev. Richard Wolford officiating. Interment was in Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice, Salvation Army, or Greater Lansing Youth for Christ.

Lauren LaParl
Lauren H. LaParl Jr., 85, passed away Oct. 15, 2008, in Greenville, S.C. He was born on April 27, 1923 to Lauren Sr. and Grace (Trumley) LaParl.
He was enrolled in kindergarten and graduated from Potterville schools as salutarian of the Class of 1940.
He served in World War II as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne, and was discharged with a purple heart and two clusters. He taught elementary school at San Clemente, Calif., for 30 years, retiring in 1983.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Norman and Elmer.
Surviving are his wife, Connie (Lowell) of Greenville, S.C.; sister, Esther (Van) Long of Potterville; a niece and several nephews.
He requested no services.
Hortense Largent
Hortense “Tencha” Largent, 83, of Bellevue, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2008. Mrs. Largent was born Dec. 11, 1924 in Key West, FL, the daughter of Ezekiel and Candida (Fernandez) Palenzuela.
She enjoyed making her home beautiful and attending services at the United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by son, William Johnson in 1993 and sister, Josephine Rodriquez.
She is survived by daughter, Sonia Johnson of Vermontville; sons, Daniel M. (Dora) Johnson of Lansing and Gary A. (Susie) Johnson of Potterville; sisters, Macy Perkins of Key West, Mary Theresa Cruz of Miami and Marina Moore of Boynton Beach, FL; brother, Mathew Palenzuela of New Jersey; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A memorial service will be held in Key West later this year.

Ivaletta Larner
Ivaletta E. Larner, 85, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008. She was born Feb. 1, 1923 in Pontiac, MI the daughter of Robert and Martha (Downing) Lloyd.
Mrs. Larner enjoyed playing Euchre, Skip Bo and working on word puzzles.
She is survived by her son, Robert (Sharon) Larner of Charlotte; daughter, Joyce (Robert) Sherwood of Hastings, MI; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Pray Funeral Home with Reverend Duane Royston officiating. Interment was at West Carmel Cemetery in Charlotte.

Patricia Latham
Patricia A. (Sheets) Latham, 74, of Lansing, formerly of the Olivet and Charlotte area, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008 at Tendercare of Marshall. Pat was born May 30, 1934 in Flint, MI the daughter of Howard and Violet (Weeks) Sheets and had lived most of her life in the Olivet/Charlotte area.
She was a 1952 graduate of Olivet High School and had been active in 4-H where she had been a 4-H Leader. She was a former member of the First Baptist church of Charlotte where she had taught Sunday School and belonged to the “Pioneer Girls.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, daughter, Kathleen Louise Latham and a brother, Ivan Sheets.
Surviving are one son, Livingstone Latham III of Lansing; two daughters, Linda Latham-Miller of Kentucky and Angela (Anthony) Heisler of Olivet; four grandchildren, Craig and Nate Latham, Jennifer Branch and Bryce Heisler; two sisters, Betsy (Tom) Mulvaney of Burke, VA and Marilee Metters of Lansing; brother, Alan Sheets of Oklahoma and sister-in-law, Patricia Sheets of Olivet.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 15, 2008 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte with Pastor Robin Crouch of First Baptist Church officiating. Interment was in the Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.

James Lawson
James William (Bill) Lawson, of Sunfield, passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008 at The Pines Health Care Center in Lansing at the age of 81. He was born June 29, 1926 in Spartanburg, SC: son of James Marion and Pearl (Knighton) Lawson.
Bill was a Seaman Second Class V-6 Navy Veteran, serving his country during WWII, and after the Navy he went back to school and earned his GED. He retired from GM Fisher Body after 33 1/3 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but spending time with his family was his favorite thing to do.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Doris Novella Lawson on May 10, 1994; brothers, Earl, and Ray; and sister, May Alice Franklin.
Surviving are five children, Deborah (John) Wakefield of Ionia, Donna (Jerry) Daman of Lansing, Delores (Ben) Lake of Charlotte, Randy (Pam) Lawson of Sunfield, and Jeff Lawson of Grand Ledge; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters, Albert (Edna) Lawson of SC, Daniel Lawson of SC, Tom (Helen) Lawson of SC, Anneruth Bailey of SC, Joyce (Buddy) Freeman of SC, Judy (Mike) Howard of Alabama, Linda (Pat) Gardner of SC; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008 at the Sunfield United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeffrey J. Schrock officiating.

The Pallbearers were Brian Rice, Stan Rice, Mike Weller, Dan Weller, Rick Sheren, Galen Rairigh. Interment with full military rites were held at the Danby Cemetery.

Maxine Leone Lease
Maxine Leone Lease, 82, of Eaton Rapids died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008 at Hazel Findlay Country Manor in St. Johns. She was born March 2, 1922 in Addison, Mich., the daughter of Bert and Lillie (Pears) LaCoe.
Maxine lived most of her life in Eaton Rapids, and formerly worked for Horner Woolen Mills during WWII where she met her husband, Max Lease. She had worked for 32 years as a cashier for A&P Groceries in Eaton Rapids and later with Felpausch Food Stores. Maxine loved animals and had worked for an animal shelter. She loved her vegetable and flower gardens. She was very talented with making crafts and loved quilting. She spent many years with bowling leagues in Eaton Rapids and Charlotte. When her husband Max was afflicted with Alzheimer's Disease, she was very active with the organization.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Max in 1988; two brothers, one sister, a grandson and a great-granddaughter.
Surviving are two daughters, Marilyn Sue (Chuck) Smith of Charlotte, and Linda (Ken) Greenfield of DeWitt; four grandchildren, Teresa (Dave) Johns of Charlotte, Amy (Jason) Engle of Jackson, Kenneth Scott (Melanie) Greenfield of Sault Saint Marie and Christopher (Courtney) Greenfield of St. Johns; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008 at the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Rev. Jason Engle, officiating. Burial followed in the Rosehill Cemetery.

Linda Lehr
Linda Marie Lehr, of Charlotte, passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2008 at the age of 63. She was born in Charlotte on July 19, 1944 to her parents Elmer and Mildred (Goodrich) Sumerix.
Linda was a life-time resident of Charlotte who was known as a supportive parent and grandparent. Linda had been employed as an accountant for a number of years for several local companies in the Charlotte area including the Crown Camper and Beach Manufacturing.
She is survived by her children, Lisa (Mark) Martens, of Charlotte, Cary Lehr, and Samantha (Jeff) Byrne; three grandchildren, Danielle Martens, Morgan Getty, and Bryce Byrne; and her four brothers, Dale Sumerix, Lynn (Carol) Sumerix, Wayne (Sue) Sumerix, Carl (Marty) Sumerix.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice.
