Dawn Marie Lemus
Dawn Marie Lemus, age 42, of Eaton Rapids, died Friday, July 25, 2008 as the result of an automobile accident. She was born April 16, 1966 in Eaton Rapids the daughter of Lawrence J. and Barbara (Harvey) Haeck. Dawn was an Eaton Rapids High School graduate, class of 1984. She was employed as a Lab Technician for Sparrow Regional Medical Supplies. She enjoyed her work and also her quiet time at home with her family. She was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara on July 22, 2008.
Surviving are her husband of 15 years, Larrie Lemus; daughter, Ashley; father, Lawrence J. Haeck of Eaton Rapids; brothers, Larry (Sherry) Haeck of Elsie, Scott (Shelly) Haeck of Eaton Rapids and Brian (Debbie) Haeck of Owosso; mother-in-law, Gee Popejoy of Costa Rica and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 30th at 11:00 a.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Fred Leonard, Jr.
Fred Leonard, Jr., of Olivet, passed away Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008 at the age of 92, after an automobile accident. Surviving are his two sons, Richard and David Leonard, two grandsons, Casey Kyle and Cody Mark Leonard, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; one son, Bryan, and five brothers and one sister.
Fred served in the Civilian Conservation Crop.; was in the US Navy during World War II on LST #450 and was active in the Michigan LST Association. He was also an active participant in the Adams-Rockey VFW for many years and was still active, two to three times a week, in local dances. Fred was a lifetime local farmer and was for many years an active local pilot. Funeral services were held at the J.C. Adams Funeral home, Springport Chapel on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008. Cremation followed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice.
Irene Leslie
Irene E. (Strobel) Leslie, 87, of Charlotte, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008.
Irene was born April 13, 1921 in Windsor Township of Eaton Count y, the daughter of E. Henry and Ida (Stiefel) Strobel.
Irene was a lifelong Eaton County resident, and a 1939 graduate of Lansing Central High School. She was a charter member of First Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Elizabeth Guild and the Coir, had taught Sunday School for over 50 years and served as the church organist for over 50 years.
She was a retired account executive with the State of Michigan, Department of Attorney General retiring in 1984 with over 40 years of service. She was a member of the State Employee Retiree’s Ass’n., the A.A.R.P., the Charlotte Business Women’s Guild, the Sindsor Retirees and enjoyed attending the area Senior Citizens meetings.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; twin infant sisters, her husband, Chester F. Leslie; and her brother, Edward W. Strobel.
Surviving are several nieces, nephews, step-children, step-grandchildren and many friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008 at the First Lutheran Church, Charlotte with Pastor Timothy Olson officiating. Interment was in the Dimondale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may go to the First Lutheran Church.
MaKayla Lesnieski
MaKayla Marie Lesnieski, one month, of Eaton Rapids passed away Thursday, December 18, 2008 in Detroit. MaKayla was born November 19, 2008 in Lansing. She was a real fighter until God took her home as his Christmas angel.
Surviving are her mother, Amanda Lesnieski of Eaton Rapids; father, James Hicks of Eaton Rapids; grandparents, Tim and Linda Lesnieski of Eaton Rapids; grandfather, Jeff Workman of Calif.; grandmother, Cheryl Workman of Calif.; great grandmother Lola Wagner of Eaton Rapids; half-sister Emily Hicks of Eaton Rapids; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
MaKayla was preceded in death by great grandparents, Thomas and Frances Lesnieski and Dorothy and Dwayne Gilbert; grandparents, Clarence and Ida Hicks; great grandfather Paul Wagner; aunts, June Hicks and Sara E. Perata; and cousins, Andreah Nicole Mitchell.
A graveside service was held Monday, Dec. 22, 2008 at Rosehill Cemetery Babyland, Eaton Rapids. Those desiring may make contributions to Amanda Lesnieski in memory of MaKayla Lesnieski.

James Stewart Lester
James Stewart Lester, age 49, of Mason and formerly of Eaton Rapids, died Friday, April 11, 2008. He was born May 10, 1958 in Eaton Rapids the son of Stewart “Stew” and Bernice (Gates) Lester. Jim was an Eaton Rapids High School graduate, class of 1976, a graduate of Jackson Community College, class of 1978, and received a degree in Tool & Die Engineering from L.C.C. Jim was employed at Palmer Engineering in Lansing for the past 16 years. He was a huge Dale Earnhardt Fan and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his wife, Joan (Schwartz) of 28 years; 3 sons, Robert Lester of Mason, Paul (Carrie) Lester of Stockbridge and Sean (Trisha) Schwartz of Charlotte; granddaughter, Payton Schwartz; parents, Stew and Bernice Lester of Springport; brother, Randy (LaNora) Lester of St. Joseph; several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held on April 15th from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with burial following in the Bunker Cemetery. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of Mid Michigan in memory of James S. Lester.
Ruth Lewis
Ruth Lucille Lewis, 87, of Charlotte, passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008 at Moore’s Adult Foster Care in Charlotte. She was born in Sears, Mich., the daughter of Frank and Clara (Barnes) Murray and had lived in Charlotte for 67 years.
She was a graduate of Grand Ledge High School, was a homemaker for many years, then worked with her family at Roseacre Greenhouse for over 25 years where she loved seeing the public and where the customers called her Grandma. She loved music, enjoyed dancing to the Polka and also enjoyed the Eaton Area Senior Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert D. Lewis; sisters, Laura Glasslee, Helen Mable Allen and Evelyn Bigford and brother, Sylvester Murray.
Surviving are five children, Charlotte (Erwin) Walker, Roberta (Jon) Forell, Arletta (Michael) Lahr, Diana (James) Wietzke and Duane (Betty) Lewis all of Charlotte; 16 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, John (Jeanette) Lewis and special cousin, Roberta Folland.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Rev. Darrell Hodge officiating. Interment was in the West Carmel Cemetery.

Martin Lipsey
Martin E. Lipsey, 90, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008 at his home after a battle with cancer. Mr. Lipsey was born June 18, 1918 in Benton Township, the son of Thomas "Ned" and Estella (Bolock) Lipsey.
Mr. Lipsey attended Miar Country School in grades first through eighth, graduating from Charlotte High School in 1936. He completed a two-year short course in Agriculture from Michigan State College. Mr. Lipsey was united in marriage to Phyllis Clifford in Belding, Mich., in 1948. They established their farm in Benton Township where they have remained ever since. He was a hard-working dairyman until 1975, then he stayed active farming grain crops until 1993.
Mr. Lipsey was a devoted husband to his wife of 60 years, loving father of seven children, and proud grandfather to 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was a faithful member of St. Mary Church in Charlotte, and a school board member of St. Mary School and Quantrell School. Following his dairy career, he loved to travel with his wife and family, including extensive trips across the U.S. and a tour of Ireland. Other hobbies included snowmobiling, boating and gardening.

Martin is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughter, Mary (Stephen) Quamma of Tucson, AZ; son, James Lipsey of Charlotte; son, Stephen (Karen) Lipsey of Eaton Rapids; son, Thomas (Jacinta) Lipsey of Ft. Wayne, IN; son, Gary Lipsey of Potterville; daughter, Monica (Malcolm) Fox of Mt. Pleasant; daughter, Maureen (Mark) Yaskanin of Lakewood, CO; and sister, Beverly Lipsey of Charlotte.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Reverend Father Denis Spitzley officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.

Olga Lisiecki
Olga Pavkovic Lisiecki died of respiratory failure Monday, Feb. 11, 2008 at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing. She was born Dec. 30, 1920 in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of the late John and Mary Curni Pavkovic.
Olga was a graduate of Western Reserve High School in Cleveland, OH and the East Lake School of Practical Nursing in Willoughby, OH. She was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse by Trumbull Memorial Hospital before retiring in 1985.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret Hart Brastein and Anne Hrubik; and Clarence Chester Lisiecki.
She is survived by Clare Lisiecki, daughter; Jerry and Connie Lisiecki, son and his wife of Charlotte; Donna and William Ellis, daughter and her husband of Anchorage, Alaska: Chad and Emily Lisiecki, grandson and his wife of Midland; Adrienne and Kaelin Ellis, grandchildren of Anchorage, Alaska; and sister, Mary Omas Little.

Frances Long
Frances Louise (McCartney) Long, 92, of Charlotte, was called home to be with her Lord early Sunday morning, Jan. 6, 2008 after a long illness. She was born in Lake Odessa on July 22, 1915 to William C. and Vera M. (Figg) McCartney.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Fred Long, her loving husband of 67 years who passed away on May 15, 2007; brothers, Hale and Evelyn McCartney, and Roger and Lucille McCartney; and sister-in-law, Sally McCartney.
Frances is survived by her sons, Jack and Carol Long of Newaygo, and Paul and Belinda Long of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Kristen Long, Jason and Julie Long and their children, Justice, Jaylee, Jaxi and Josiah, Robert and Stacy Long and their children, Gracie and Anthony, Jeanne Long, Sarah Long, and Katherine Long; brother, Robert McCartney of NC; the members of the extended McCartney family; and many other loving relatives and friends.
The funeral service was held at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008. Burial took place in Lakeside Cemetery.
The family has suggested that memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
