James Mix

James E. Mix, 73, of Bedford, VA, formerly of Nashville, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Vermontville Methodist Church.

Leroy Mix

Leroy (Roy) H. Mix, 76, of Charlotte, formerly of Nashville, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008 at Hayes Green Beech Hospital in Charlotte. He was born in Vermontville on Aug. 5, 1932, the son of the late Lee and Helen (McRoie) Lenic.

He was married to Eslie Curtis in 1967. The couple lived in the Ypslanti area during their marriage which ended in divorce in 1972.

He was raised in the Vermontville area and attended local schools graduating from Vermontville High School in 1951. Roy served in the U.S. Army as a private in the Korean conflict where he was decorated with the Wharange Distinguished Military Service Medal, Parachute Badge, Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Ribbon, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Silver Star.

Roy worked as a maintenance supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service where he began working in 1974 and retired in 1997 at the age of 65. He enjoyed reading religious and health oriented books and being around airplanes.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Russell and granddaughter, Andrea Dempsey.

Roy is survived by a stepdaughter, JoAnn Dempsey; a stepson, Bart (Karen) Dempsey; sister, Ferona (Jim) Wiser; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Fort Custer National Cemetery on Friday, Oct. 3. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the Daniels Funeral Home in Nashville.

Dana Momany

Dana C. Momany entered Heaven on Feb. 16, 2008. He was born in Charlotte on Nov. 8, 1949.

When Dana was 18 years old he joined the Army and served in Korea. After he was discharged, he moved to Arizona and worked in the construction field for 30 years. He was most recently employed by the City of Goodyear as a civil inspector. Dana loved vacationing in Mexico, living in Cottonwood, and the Arizona Cardinals.

He is survived by his loving wife and soul mate, Karen; sister, DaLonna (Ed); daughters, Kristi (David), Stacie, Diane, Bonnie; sons, Michael, Jeff; six grandchildren and many extended family members and friends who loved him. A celebration of his life will be on March 1, 2008 at noon at the American Legion in Cottonwood, AZ.

Robert Mominee

Robert H. Mominee “Bob,” 74, of Charlotte, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008. He was born Oct. 31, 1934 in Charlotte, the son of Fred and Cecil (Lampkin) Mominee.

Bob was a repairman for Oldsmobile and was a dairy farmer for several years. He was a NASCAR fan with Ryan Newman being his favorite driver. Bob was very proud of his children and grandchildren; they were the light of his life.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Zimmerman; brother, Jack Mominee; and son-in-law, Delbert Redfield.

He is survived by his wife of 37 ½ years, Diane; daughters, Roxanne Scott of New Mexico, StarrAnn Redfield of Eaton Rapids, Julia Mominee of Eaton Rapids, Loretta (Dan Manial) Moss of Bellevue and Bobbi (John) Villeneuve of Bellevue; sons, Allen DuMond of Muskegon and Donald DuMond of Charlotte; 10 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brothers, Jim (Dreama) Mominee of Dimondale, Lyle (Arlene) Mominee of FL; sister, Veronica (Jack) Piggott of Lansing; mother and father-in-law, Helen and Pete Minier.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008 at Pray Funeral Home with Reverend John Bailey officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Charlotte Church of Christ, or to the Breslin Cancer Center.

Michael Monroe

Michael L. Monroe, of Charlotte, 67, went to be with the Lord on his birthday after a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Mike was born Feb. 11, 1941 in Lansing, the son of Melvin and Onalee (Vorhees) Monroe and had been a Charlotte resident since the early 1970's coming from Lansing.

He was a 1960 Graduate of J. W. Sexton High School and served eight and a half years in the U. S. Navy on the USS Coral Sea as a Dental Technician. He spent the majority of his life in law enforcement having been employed by Lansing Police Dept. and its Metro Narcotics Division, the Charlotte Police Dept. and the Eaton County Sheriff's Dept. from where he retired after 21 years of service. Was currently employed part time with the Eaton County Courthouse Security. He enjoyed community service being actively involved in his church functions, was a member and past president of the Charlotte Kiwanis Club, being in charge of the food trailer, was Charlotte's official Santa for the Christmas Parade and had been actively involved in Boy Scouts.

Mike was a world traveler, loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and loved spending time with family.

He was predeceased by his father, Melvin; and wife, Annette.

He was a devoted family man and is survived by his wife of four years, Brenda; three sons, Christopher (Tracy) and David (Rhonda) both of St. Petersburg, FL and Andrew (Daysha) of Dearborn, MI; stepchildren, Erin Downing of Concord, Brian Downing of Albion and Krista Roberts of Battle Creek; his mother, Onalee Meyers of Nashville; brother, Larry (Janie) Monroe of Grand Haven; sister, Sandy (Jed) Kuhn of Greenville; three grandsons; nine stepgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 15, 2008 at the Lawrence Ave. United Methodist Church with Rev. Darold Hill and Rev. Karen Wheat officiating. Interment of cremains with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2008 at the Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

Mike was a great inspiration to all who knew him by his positive attitude and lived life to the fullest. He will be dearly missed.

Gerald Montgomery

Gerald Vern Montgomery, 68, of Southfield, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008. Mr. Montgomery was born Sept. 2, 1939 in Detroit, the son of Vern Truman and Virginia (Clothier) Montgomery.

He was a hard working gravel train truck driver. He was a great father and grandfather.

He is survived by sons; Jeff (Elizabeth) Montgomery of Jackson, and Scott (Dawn) Montgomery of Waterford, MI; grandchildren, Coy, Travis, Madison and Jake of Jackson and Brandon and Nicholas of Waterford; sisters, Gloria Parker of Charlotte, and Sandy (Dale) Hartwick of Howell; and his beloved dog, Tina.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Randy Royston officiating. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery in Detroit.

Margaret Moon

Margaret Ann "Peggy" Moon, 82, of Olivet, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2008 at the Sparrow Hospital, Lansing. Peggy was born July 23, 1926 in Brookfield Twp., Eaton County, the daughter of Leonard and Isabel (LaBare) Johnson and had been a lifelong area resident.

She was a 1944 graduate of Olivet High School and was a retired secretary for Air-Way Mfg. Co. of Olivet with 30 years of service. She was an active member of the Olivet Congregational Church, having served as president of the Women's Fellowship and on the Board of Deacons. She was a former member of the Olivet/Bellevue O.E.S., had served as a volunteer at Hayes-Green-Beach Hospital, was a member of the Charloteers Campers Club and volunteered as a mentor for the Olivet Grade School reading program.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carroll H. Moon; brother, Carroll "Casey" Johnson; sister-in-law, Billie Johnson and brother-in-law, Dorion Moon.

Surviving are her daughter, Kristine Ann (Jeffery) Morris of Olivet; son, Keith Allen (Donna) Moon of Olivet; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Patricia (Hans) Langmaack; two brothers, Leonard (Donna) Johnson and Richard (Marilyn) Johnson, both of Charlotte; sister-in-law, Betty Moon of Bellevue; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008 at the Olivet Congregational Church with Rev. Jack Brown officiating. Interment was in the Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue.

Memorial contributions may go to the Olivet Congregational Church. Arrangements by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home of Charlotte.

Mark Moon

Mark E. Moon, 53, of Olivet, died unexpectedly, Friday, July 4, 2008 at his residence of an apparent heart attack. Mark was born Jan. 27, 1955 in Marshall, MI, the son of Merlin E. and Patricia (Ross) Moon and had lived most of his life in the Olivet area.

He was a 1973 graduate of Olivet High School. He was a self-employed dairy farmer and farrier (blacksmith). He loved his "Clydesdale Bud" Stallion, and liked to take the kids fishing and enjoyed hunting.

Surviving are his wife, Kristina (Hansen) Moon; four children, Joslin Moon of Battle Creek, Dustin Moon of Ann Arbor, Kenton Moon and Soyer Moon both of Olivet; two grandchildren, Dakota Moore and Jalinn Pennock; his mother, Patricia (Ross) Moon of Marshall; his father, Merlin E. Moon of Olivet; three sisters, Julie (Michael) Runyan of Lighthouse Point, FL, Marcia (Patrick) Frost of Olivet and Renee Moon of Hastings and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Pastor Todd Page officiating. Interment in the Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.

Memorial contributions may go to the American Heart Association. Envelopes available at the Funeral Home.

Lillie Jane Moore

Lillie Jane Moore of Eaton Rapids, age 71, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2008 in Lansing. Lillie was born February 3, 1936 in Nashville, TN, the daughter of John and Annie (Young) Hayes. She was a retired caregiver at Country Acres in Eaton Rapids. Lillie was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Eugene Moore in 1986.

She is survived by daughter, Tammie (Mark) Moore-Oberlin of Eaton Rapids; 2 sons, Michael (Annie Foster) Moore of TN, and Randy Moore of Eaton Rapids; 3 grandchildren, Jason (Nicole Bailey) Moore, Shannon (John) Rasmussen, and Jonathan Moore; 2 great grandchildren, Jason Milligan and Andrew Moore; 4 brothers, Louis (Snooky) Hayes, Tommy (Joellen) Hayes, Robert Hayes, and Ronnie Hayes, all of TN; 4 sisters, Carol Stiles of Lansing, Dorothy (Don) McNeil of TN, Evelyn (Ed) Ashley of TN, and Shirley (Henry) Swickowski of PA.

There will be no services at this time. Arrangements are by the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids..

Ronald R. Moore

Ronald R. Moore, age 61, long time resident of Eaton Rapids, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, April 20, 2008. Ron was born February 20, 1947 in Grosse Pointe, MI to the late Cloyde K. and Patricia J. (Fahner) Moore.

He was raised in St. Clair Shores and graduated from Notre Dame High School. Ron went on to attend Michigan State University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts, followed by a Master’s of Education from Wayne State University. Ron established himself in Eaton Rapids in 1973, settling into a career in Special Education with the Eaton Intermediate School District, where he worked until his retirement in 2001. Ron was strong in his faith and an active member of St. Peter Catholic Church. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus and was a volunteer fireman for Eaton Rapids and Hamlin Townships. He was also seen volunteering in other areas of the community.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Megan (Francisco) Moore and Grand Rapids, Amanda (Adam) Hilt of Traverse City; four grandchildren, Declan, Jackson, Hadley and Anderson; two sisters, Kathy (Chuck) DeMarco and Maureen Moore, a brother, Mark Moore; nieces, a nephew and several other loving family members and caring friends. Ron was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, April 24, 2008 at St. Peter Catholic Church. Graveside services were held at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamlin Township. Memorial contributions may be directed to Special Olympics Michigan, Central Michigan University, Mt. Pleasant, MI, 48859 in memory of Ron Moore, Area 8.

The family was served by the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids.
