Robert Newman
Robert L. “Bob” Newman, 89, of Hilliard, formerly of Charlotte, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon April 19, 2008 at the Carriage Court Community of Hilliard, where Bob has lived with his loving and caring wife, Rita, for the past two years. Born Sept. 26, 1918 in Worcester, Mass.
WWII Army veteran, (1942-1945) Tech. SGT of Company B 44th Engineer Combat Battalion serving in Algeria, French Morocco, Naples, Foggia, Rome, Arno, Rhineland and Central Europe. After the war, he returned home to Rita and they were married that Thanksgiving.
Robert worked in a variety of jobs his caring nature lead him to hospital work. Once there his organization skills and his charismatic personality lead him to management of hospital housekeeping. He lived a quiet prosperous life. Before moving to Ohio, he lived in Charlotte for 35 years. He was an active member of St. Mary’s parish. Education was very important to Robert. Both of his children graduated college and enjoy success in their chosen professions.
Preceded in death by parents, George and Cora (Fassett Newman; brothers, Jack Newman and Judd Newman.
Survived by loving wife of 63 years, Rite E. (Dube) Newman, whom he married Nov. 22, 1945, children, Jane t(Larry) Rose of Plain City and Robert P. (Teresa) Newman of Maple Grove, MN; two grandsons, Aaron Rowse and Devin Newman.
The funeral was held Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Ferguson Funeral Home 202 E. Main St., (St. Rte. 161W) Plain City. Burial was at Big Darby Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Union County Honor Guard.

Dorothy Nichols
Dorothy J. Nichols, 80, of Ft. Myers, FL, passed away on March 5, 2008. She was born May 20, 1927, in Ceresco, MI, to Haakon and Bessie (Gleason) Furu.
She graduated from Charlotte High School in 1944 and from St. Lawrence Sisters of Mercy School of Nursing in Lansing in 1948.
On Nov. 13, 1948, she married Richard L. Nichols. He preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 2006. Dorothy was a R.N., a homemaker, volunteer and a talented seamstress, creating dozens of beautiful quilts.
Her parents; three sisters, Arlouene Treadwell, Julia Rush, Shirley Furu, and three brothers, Wardhal Furu, Eric Furu and Donald Furu, predeceased her.
Surviving are her goddaughter, Tracy Hicks; a sister-in-law, Joyce Furu; two brothers-in-law, Sterling Treadwell and Donald Rush; 19 nieces and nephews, and special friends, Pat and Don Corey.
The Nichols were charter members of the Ft. Myers Congregational United Church of Christ, 8210 College Parkway, where her life will be celebrated on April 14, 2008, at 1:30 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to her church or Hope Hospice Care, Ft. Myers.
Virginia Novack
Virginia Marie Cecilia Novack, 92, of Charlotte, died Feb. 24, 2008. Mrs. Novack was born Nov. 20, 1915 in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of Ignatius and Marietta Tomczak.
She was known to her family as the most loving mother in the world. Mrs. Novack was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlotte and a Reading Grandma at St. Mary School. She was a former Parish Council Member, officer in the Alter Society and Happy Years Club. Mrs. Novack was also a volunteer at Hayes Green Beach Hospital in Charlotte.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Felix; son, Philip; daughter, Patricia and sister, Conrada Hyba.
She is survived by her daughter, Gayle Warner; grandchildren, Philip (Sandy) Novack, Mark (Heide) Novack, John Novack, Karl Douglas (Rosa) Simburger, Christine Novack, Cathy (Ron) Pemberton, Karri Lynn (John) Johnson and Gayle Marie McMillan; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Roger Simburger and her dearest friend Marge Kelsey.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 29, 2008 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Charlotte with Father Denis Spitzley officiating. Interment was in Deepdale Memorial Gardens, Lansing.

Millie Nowall
Millie Maxine Nowall joined her husband, mother and brother in heaven on March 13, 2008.
He is survived by Sharon Genereaux, Sue (Roger) McPhee and Paula (James) Molner; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sentinel Pointe Community Church, 2900 Thornhills Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. A private family funeral service will be held at a later date.

Penny Joy Oberlin
Penny Joy Oberlin, age 44, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2008 in Eaton Rapids. Penny was born November 18, 1963 in Lansing, MI, the daughter of Henry Erwin and Anna Mae (Lance) Mire. She was a home health caregiver for many years and a group leader for the Neighborhood Watch.
Penny is survived by her husband, Steven J. Oberlin; daughter, Anna Marie Oberlin (fiancé, Steven Snyder) of Ohio; son, Robert “little Steve” Gearhart of Eaton Rapids; close personal friend, Jim “Bubby” Towers of Eaton Rapids; many young people that called Penny & Steve “Mom & Dad”; 7 brothers, Elias (Anita) Mire, Henry Mire, both of Eaton Rapids, Perry “Joe” Mire of Hastings, Jerry (Jackie) Mire of Potterville, Max (Sheila) Mire of Leslie, Harlow Mire of Potterville, and John (Tammy) Abbott of Lansing; 2 sisters, Connie (Dave) Berkimer of Nashville, and Kathy (Arthur) Wallace of Eaton Rapids.
Funeral services will be today, Tuesday, March 11, 2008, 2:00 p.m. at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids, with interment following at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the National Kidney Foundation in memory of Penny Oberlin..
Robert (Rob) Oberlin
Robert (Rob) Oberlin of Traverse City, formerly of Eaton Rapids, passed away on July 18th after a bout with cancer.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father Richard Oberlin.
Robert is survived by daughter Amanda Bruce of Charlotte; mother Janice Oberlin of Eaton Rapids, brothers, Philip (Kelli) of Charlotte; Rick (Kandace) of Cadillac; Ron (Jennifer) of Bear Lake, sisters, Lisa Clare of Grayling; Carrie (Jason) Roimer of Texas, stepsister, Diane Brummette of Charlotte, step-brother, Mark Hisler of Charlotte and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a benefit barbecue on Saturday, August 2nd at the home of Phil Oberlin, 860 Butterfield Hwy to help the family cover the cost of burial.
Kenneth C. Oliver
Kenneth C. Oliver, age 71, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008 in Lansing. Kenneth was born June 17, 1936 in Harrietta, MI, the son of Herbert Leo and Velno (Porter) Oliver. He was a member of the Faith Assembly of God Church and retired from Lindberg Corp. of Lansing.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Irene Mongar. Kenneth is survived by his wife of 52 years, Beverly (Overla) Oliver; 3 children, Russell Oliver of Eaton Rapids, Mel (Lori) Oliver of Quincy, and Elaine (Earl) Schnepp of Eaton Rapids; 9 grandchildren, Christopher (Amanda) Oliver, Nicholas Oliver, Jessica (Troy) Frazier, Nicholl (Ed) Huston, Kory, Audrey, and Kaylyn Oliver, Thomas & Sarah Schnepp; 3 great grandchildren, Brandon & Lilly Frazier, and Kaiden Oliver; 3 brothers, Bud (Elnora) Oliver of Cadillac, Jack (Dorothy) Oliver of Cadillac, Edwin (Dorothy) Oliver of TN; sister-in-law, Carole (Albert) Clark of Eaton Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held April 3, 10028 at the Faith Assembly of God Church, Olivet, MI, with interment planned at Antioch Cemetery in Wexford County, MI in May.

Ann Olmstead
Ann L. Olmstead, 57, of Vermontville, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008 at Sparrow Hospital, in Lansing. She was born in Lansing on Nov. 9, 1950, the daughter of the late Howard and Irene Blommer.
She was raised in the Mulliken and Vermontville area and attended Vermontville schools. She was the wife of Ron Olmstead. The couple was married at the Bellevue Methodist Church on Nov. 11, 1968. They made their home and raised their family together on their Vermontville farm which they purchased in 1974.
Ann loved her home and worked diligently with her husband Ron on the farm which they have done full time since 1983. She also worked at Pennock Hospital as a unit secretary for a few years after her children where grown. Ann enjoyed traveling with her husband Ron; to celebrate 30 years of marriage the couple traveled west where they visited Glacier National Park, the Grand Canyon, the Teaton Mountains, and several other scenic locations. Ron and Ann have been married for almost 40 years
Ann was the type of person who was always willing to lend a helping hand. One of her life long passions was studying the Bible. She was currently taking a college level Bible study course which normally would take three years to complete; Ann's goal was to complete the course in one year. Ann loved to teach the word of God to others. She devoted over 20 years to teaching various Sunday school classes in the churches she attended. Her family, however, held the most important place in her life. She enjoyed spending time with her beloved grandchildren, being outdoors, and relaxing at the family cabin in Kalkaska.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Elaine, Donna, Lucille; and her brother, Lynn.
Ann is survived by her husband of almost 40 years, Ron; daughter, Jody (Doug) Franklin; son, Greg Olmstead; sister, Beverly Blommer; brother, Bob (Caroline) Blommer; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her mother in-law and special friend, Dorothy Jones.
Funeral services were held at the Daniels Funeral Home, in Nashville, MI, on Tuesday, Oct. 14, with Pastor Carla Smith officiating. Interment took place immediately following the funeral service at Hillside Cemetery in Kalamo.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association or Thornapple Valley Church. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the Daniels Funeral Home in Nashville.
Veronica Jo Olney
Veronica Jo Olney, age 10, of Eaton Rapids, daughter of Robert and Tammy Jo (Brooks) Olney, passed away Monday, March 17, 2008 at her home in Eaton Rapids. Veronica struggled with bone cancer for 3 ½ years (since October, 2004) and still continued her passion for dancing, including performing in the annual Island Dance Centre Recital. Throughout her illness she has continued to attend Greyhound Inter-medicate, achieving continual Honor Roll status.
She is survived by her parents; sister, Brooke Olney; grandparents, Mable & Tom Olney of Eaton Rapids; Alma Weber of Lansing, Marge & Tom Brooks of Lansing; “just like grandparents”, Mary & Dick Henneman of Mason; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 21, 2008 at the Robbins United Methodist Church, Eaton Rapids. Arrangements were by the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids. In lieu of flowers, contributions would be greatly appreciated for the Child & Family Life Program at Motts Children’s Hospital or Make-A-Wish Foundation..
