Bryan Olson

Bryan Olson, a graduate of the Charlotte High School class of 1975, passed away Friday, March 28, 2008 at the age of 50, at the home of his sister in Portage, after a five-week stay at Bronson Hospital. Bryan was born Nov. 2, 1957 in Beeville, Texas, the son of Ron and Bunny (Clark) Olson.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bunny.

Bryan loved to play sports and was an avid sports fan. He was employed at Honee Bear on Lawton until his illness.

Bryan is survived by his wife, April; four children, Erica and Janessa of Olivet, Morgan of Charlotte and Corban of Lawton; father, Ron (Sharon) Olson; stepfather, Phil Hinderliter; sister, Kim (Ron) Applebey; step-brothers, Mike and Ken Hinderliter; step-sister, Kathy Glasscock; and aunts, Mary Jane Clark, Fran Curtis and Bea Rickerd of Charlotte and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at Adams Funeral Home in Paw Paw. Bryan will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.

Helen F. Oring-Nichols

Helen F. Oring-Nichols of Eaton Rapids, formerly of Greenbelt, MD, age 100, died Sunday, January 6, 2008 at Eaton Community Hospice in Charlotte. Helen was born August 30th, 1907 in Tonawanda, New York, the daughter of William and Ethel (Adler) Greenhut. She lived for 60 years in Greenbelt, Maryland before moving to Eaton Rapids in 2002. Helen was the Administrative Assistant for the Department of Political Science, at the University of Maryland, for 20 years, and retired in 1972. Singing was her greatest love, and upon retirement she joine3d a senior performing arts group “Seasoned Players”, which performed all around the suburban Washington D.C. area and was able to perform with them until the age of 98. Helen felt one of her musical gifts was to sing for nursing home residents. She was named Senior Citizen of the Year for Prince Georges County Maryland for her volunteer performances. She also sang for her children’s and grandchildren’s weddings. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister, her two husbands, Irving Oring, and Harvey Nichols, and her daughter-in-law Mary Oring (Stuart).

She is survived by her sons, Stuart Oring (Owings, MD), Lewis (Kay) Oring (Susanville, CA), Robert (Marcia) Oring (Eaton Rapids, MI); the true joy of her life - 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; and her special angel friend “Judy Nichols”.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids, with Dr. Harold DeMott, and Pastor Chadwick Oring-Anderson (grandson) officiating. Interment will follow at Rosehill cemetery, Eaton Rapids. The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Charles “Charlie” Martin Ott

Charles “Charlie” Martin Ott, age 65, formerly of Oregon, OH, passed away Monday, November 24, 2008 in Eaton Rapids, MI. Charlie was born June 30, 1943 in Perrysburg, OH, the son of Harold and Phyllis Ott. He spent his childhood in Neaoplis, OH and graduated from Anthony Wayne High School, Whitehouse, Ohio, in 1961. Charles served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Orion from 1961 to 1964, and then lived and farmed in Oregon, OH until 2001. He retired from GM Powertrain of Toledo, OH as a Cutter Grinder, and liked hunting, fishing and collecting Fenton Art Glass.

Surviving are his wife of 7 years, Colleen (Kilburn) of Eaton Rapids, MI; 2 sons, Charles M. Ott II and Jeffrey S. (Kim Parker) Ott, both of Toledo, OH; daughter, Kathryn (Tanja Rupert) Gradowski of Lansing, MI; father & mother-in-law, Richard & Dorine Kilburn of Eaton Rapids, MI; 2 brothers-in-law, Garrey Siler of Pioneer, OH, and Kenneth (Mary) Hanes of Billings, MT; 2 sisters-in-law, Lois Franklin of Jackson, MI and Sue Young of Holt, MI; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 29, 2008 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids, MI, and interment followed at Munger Cemetery, Eaton Rapids, MI. Karen Overly/Harris

Karen Overly/Harris of Eaton Rapids, passed away on 4/28/08 at Sparrow, with The big C word. She was born in Allentown PA on 11/10/60. She was preceded in death by her 1st husband King Harris.

Karen is survived by father and mother Jack and Ardith Overly, LOVER and FIANCÉ Michael Wendling, 2 sons Paul (Heather) Overly, Tony (Jackie) Harris of Co.; 3 sisters, Sandy (Emmanual) Partin of Jackson, Patty and Mary Overly of Co.; Step-kids Desarae (Joe) Wendling, of E/R, Michael, Shawna and Robert Wendling of Canton. Nieces and nephews Jason and Jamie Partin, Jessie, Rochelle and Joe of Co.; 6 grandkids, Ashley Overly, Tony Harris, Jr., Areonah, Easton, Michael the third and Braiden Wendling.

We need help c/o Skinner Funeral Home, 315 S. River St., Eaton Rapids. Donations would be greatly appreciated.

We would like everyone to join her at the party on 6/01/08 at the Island Park. Meat will be there, bring a dish to pass, listen to the live music and remember Karen Harris, a former Mr. M’s employee of ten years. Please come and remember her. From 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Annette Laura Owen

Annette Laura Owen, of Eaton Rapids, passed from this life very peacefully on Thursday, June 26, 2008 in Battle Creek. Annette was born April 4th the daughter of John and Olivia (Koster) Trierweiler. Mrs. Owen was a former Doctor’s Assistant at Henry Ford Hospital and later a Dental Assistant for her husband Dr. Edwin Owen in Eaton Rapids. Mrs. Owen had been a resident of Eaton Rapids for the past 50 years and was a very generous person with her family, friends and even strangers. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and a member of St. Vincent DePaul Society. Proceeding her in death was her husband Dr. Edwin Owen in 1999; sisters, Mary Louise Trierweiler and Francis Hoffmann.

Surviving are 3 children, Robert (Ann) Owen of Orlando, FL, Marjorie (Mike) Howe of Richland and Russell Owen of Dimondale; 4 grandchildren; Alex Owen Michael Howe, Matthew Howe and Malissa Howe; 2 sisters, Eva Reineke and Margie (Mike) LaRaia; 4 brothers, John (Catherine) Trierweiler, Charles (Jean) Trierweiler, William Trierweiler and Richard (Barbara) Trierweiler; numerous nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Connie Owen.

Mass of the Christian Burial was held June 28th from St. Peter Catholic Church. For those desiring memorial gifts may be made to St. Peter Church in memory of Annette Owen. The family is being served through the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids.

Orrin Packard

Orrin E. “Ted” Packard, 87, of Charlotte, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2008 at John & Roxanne Moore’s Country Living AFC Home, which had been his home for four years. Ted was born Aug. 11, 1921 in Charlotte, the son of Orrin E. and Elizabeth (Lee) Packard and was a life-long resident of Charlotte.

He was a graduate of Charlotte High School and had served in the U.S. Army Air Crops’ 456th Bombardier Group during WWII in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre receiving one silver and three Bronze Battle Stars. He retired as an electrician from General Motors in Lansing and prior to that was an owner of AT&T Electric of Charlotte. He was a proud dedicated member of the Charlotte Volunteer Fire Department, where he had served for 442 years. He was a life member of the Maple City Post #2406 V.F.W., was a member of the Grenawalt-Flaherty Post #42 American Legion, the Charlotte Lodge #120 F. & A.M., the U.A.W. Electrical Union Local #1602 and was a member of the 456th Bombardier Group attending their reunions on a regular basis.

He was married to E. Elaine Bruce on April 15, 1943. She preceded him in death on Sept. 13, 1990. Also preceding him in death were his parents, granddaughter, Janice Nolan-Van Derske and his sister, Margaret Olmstead.

Surviving are six children, Sandra (Chuck) Garrison, Sue (Harv) Nolan, Stephanie (Gerald) Schultz, Sally (Bob) Starkweather, Thomas Packard and James (Sarah) Packard; grandchildren, Todd (Chris) Garrison, Shannon David, Lynn Ferrer, Peggy Wells, Sam (Beth) Wells, Amber Jones, April Jones, Sarah Packard, Hunter Packard, Shane Packard, Brooke (Brian) Biloski and Cody Packard; great grandchildren, Lainie, Alan, Abigail, Joseph, Samantha, Cody, Austin and Hugh and five step grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home with Rev. Arthur Salisbury and the Charlotte Fire Department officiating. Interment in the Maple Hill Cemetery with graveside Military Rites by Maple City Post #2406 V.F.W.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Charlotte Volunteer Fire Department.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to John & Roxanne Moore for the loving care given to Ted while he was a resident of their home.

Barbara Page

Barbara J. (Van Loton) Page, age 84, formerly of Potterville, died Saturday. July 12, 2008 at the Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Mrs. Page was born January 14, 1924 in Douglas Twp., near Stanton, MI, the daughter of Ralph C. and Neva (Schram) Van Loton. She was a graduate of Potterville High School, was a life member of Potterville Order of Eastern Star #413 and had been a member of the Potterville V.F.W. She lived 47 years in Potterville then from 1983 until 2004 at Hastings, MI (Leach Lake). She had been living with her daughter in Traverse City since 2004.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Leo W. Page in 2003; by brothers, Ellis, Lewis, Dean, Jim and Richard Van Loton; and her sister, Roxane Beck. She is survived by: 2 daughters, Christine (Charles) Means of Charlotte and Debra Chavez of Traverse City; grandchildren, Larisa (David) Green, Trent (Danielle) Means, Elizabeth (Stephane) Renverse, Ruben (Amber) Chavez, Jr, Rachel Ann (Tom) Baker and RyAnn (Jeffery) Jackson; and great-grandchildren, Jacob Chavez, Lauren Chavez, Andrew Chavez, Allie Baker, Brooklyn Baker and Jaelyn Baker. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2008 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte with Pastor Rebecca Morrison officiating. Interment will be in the Deepdale Memorial Gardens, Lansing. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may go to the Charity of One's Choice in her memory.

Don Page

Don S. Page, 78 of Charlotte, went home to the Lord on Friday, Jan. 4, 2008. Mr. Page was born June 15, 1929 in Benton Township, Eaton County, the son of Ray and Mary (Smith) Page.

He was employed by Oldsmobile for 30 years in addition to serving in the Army in Europe and was then recalled to serve in Korea in 1950 where he was wounded and received The Purple Heart. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed carpentry work. He served as a Potterville City Council Member and was a police officer for Potterville and Benton Township. Mr. Page was awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Criminal and Traffic Enforcement from the Michigan State Police.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ray Page Jr. and Robert Page; and two sisters, Beryle Field and Mary Lou Whitney.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elaine (Sprague); daughters, Chris Miller of Edgewater, FL, Cindy Page and Peggy (Michael) Whitson, both of Charlotte; five grandchildren, Shani, Angel, Harvest, Autumn and Forest; four great-grandchildren, Haven, Sage, Rhyan and Ruby; brothers, Jack (Betty) Page of Charlotte, Ernest (Eloise) Page of Yerington, NV, Roger (Beth) Page of Olivet, Dennis (Joyce) Page of Denton, TX, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held Jan. 9, 2008 at Ainger Bible Church, with Pastor Scott Brood officiating.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice.

Michael Parish

Michael P. Parish, Sr., 65, of Mesick, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at his home with his wife at his side. He was born on Feb. 14, 1943 in Grand Rapids, MI, the son of the late James E. and Annamae (Blakely) Parish.

He attended Ravenna High School. Michael was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving as an airman recruit. He married Barbara A. Krutel on Feb. 14, 1982 in Potterville. She survives. He had been employed as a machine builder by VNC Automation and Anderson Automation, retiring in 1993. Mike enjoyed motor cycles, fishing, bottle collecting, raising chickens, and loved his cats.

He is survived by his children, Michael (Denise) Parish, Jr. of Albuquerque, NM, Robert (Cindy) Skibbe of Grand Rapids, MI, Mark Skibbe of Standish, MI, and Sharon Skibbe-Goodman of Killen, AL; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brothers, Patrick and Daniel; sisters, Kate, Coleen, Rose, Mary, and Melissa; nieces, nephews, and many friends also survive.

Memorial Services were held Friday, July 11, 2008 at the American Legion Post 179 at 2327 Wilson Ave., SW in Walker, MI.

Memorials in Mike’s name may be directed to Mercy Hospice, 7985 Mackinaw Trail, Cadillac, MI 49601.

The family has entrusted the Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Manistee with funeral arrangements.

Robert Parkinson

Robert P. Parkinson, 66, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at his residence after a lengthy illness. Bob was born Nov. 27, 1941 in Royal Oak, MI, the son of Floyd A. and Anna (Lofters) Parkinson.

He was a 1959 Graduate of Olivet High School and had been employed at State Farm & Auto Owners Insurance, the Mich. Dept. of Treasury, Syntec and the Michigan State Lottery from where he retired.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, George Parkinson.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kathy (Gilbert) Parkinson; his son, Ron (Shannon) Parkinson of Lansing; his daughter, Sandy Peck of Charlotte; four grandchildren and a brother, Bill Parkinson.

At his request, no services will be held.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Breslin Cancer Center in Lansing.
