Pat Joyce Phipps
Pat Phipps, age 71, of Eaton Rapids, went to Heaven on February 20, 2008, after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron, of 42 years and by 2 brothers; Carl Sheler and Everett Behrns. Parents were Majora Coon & Grandville Behrns.
She is survived by 2 daughters; Connie Palmer of Carson City and Sandra Fuller of Ravenna, besides 2 sisters; Bonnie Grant of Lansing and Carolyn Smith of Nashville. Also surviving are three grandchildren; Brian Christle of Hubbardston, Jeff Harshman of Lansing, and Sarah Christle of Lyons. Pat also had 5 great grandchildren; Autumn, Emily, Maison, Noah, and Samuel, in addition to nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
People said of Pat: She had great patience and determination; She always thought of everyone else before herself; She’d give you the shirt off her back; and She had a great sense of humor, even when sick.
Pat worked as a dietician for 16 years at the Eaton Rapids Community Hospital and later worked at Island view in Eaton Rapids.
She will be missed by her family and friends. Funeral services were provided by Skinner Funeral Home on February 22, 2008, Pat’s 72nd birthday.
June Piddington
June Piddington, a life-long resident of Michigan, passed away peacefully on Nov. 24, 2008. June was born Nov. 8, 1918 in Hastings, MI to Ernest and Elsie Offley.
In addition to being a loving wife and mother, June worked in several professions including radio station copywriter and health care assistant within the Barry County Health Department.
June was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Piddington.
June is survived by her sister, Rose Armbruster of Largo, FL; sons, Terry Piddington of Colorado Springs, CO and Roger Piddington of Goodrich, MI; daughters-in-law, Carol and Peggy; grandchildren, Amy Piddington, Cathy Phillips, Dan Piddington, Michael Piddington, Jeff Piddington, Debra Hanna and 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 208 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Kathy Smith officiating. Interment will be a t Woodlawn Cemetery in Vermontville. Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice House.

Timothy Pitcher
Timothy Lee Pitcher Sr., of Charlotte, died on Jan. 17, 2008 at age 60, vacationing in Tucson, Arizona. He was born on Jan. 15, 1948 to Betty (Ledergerber) Pitcher and Duane Pitcher.
He is survived by his sons, Timothy (Amber) Pitcher II, Randy Pitcher, Troy (Wendy) Pitcher; daughter, Shawn (Stephen) Schmidt and 16 grandchildren; his step-mother, Jean Pitcher; brother, Lonny (Marcie) Pitcher; sister, Wendy (Brian) Selden; a close cousin, Sher Brown and companion, Myra Sheen.
Services were held Jan. 23 at the Charlotte Assembly of God officiated by Pastor Jo Belknap.
Velma Ploch
Velma Frances Ploch, 90, of Charlotte, died Feb. 15, 2008. She was born July 6, 1917 in Carson City, MI.
Mrs. Ploch was a member of the Potterville United Methodist Church since 1961. She retired from the Michigan Department of Community Health when she was 70. She enjoyed going to plays, her book clubs, dancing and having parties with her friends. Velma was a volunteer for USO during WWII at the REO Club House. She was a graduate of Central High School, Lansing.
Velma married Fritz Ploch on Nov. 11, 1945 and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a grandson Kenneth Michael Ploch.
She is survived by two daughters, Nadine LaMotte of Lansing, Ruth (Jeff) Beaver of Albertville, AL; and two sons, Kenneth (Patricia) Ploch and Frederick (Rebecca) Ploch both of Potterville; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and one brother, Keith (MaryJane) Jackson of Benton Ridge, OH.
The funeral service was held on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008 at the Potterville United Methodist Church. Interment took place at the Carson City Cemetery, Carson City, MI.
Contributions may be made to the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan or Potterville United Methodist Church.
Elizabeth S. Pond
Elizabeth S. Pond, age 89 of Mason, formerly of Parma, where she raised her family and later was a resident of Tampa Florida for 25 years; she then lived with her son, James W. Pond and Patty Harrison before entering Country Creek Care Facility. She passed away peacefully under the loving care of the facility and Hospice Monday, August 11, 2008.
She was born in Detroit, MI to Earl and Susan Miller Smitherman on August 19, 1919. She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Pond, daughter, Earlinda and grandson, Kristopher Pond.
Surviving are her son, James W. Pond (Patty Harrison) of Eaton Rapids; daughter, Betsy Pond of Waldron, MI; 3 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren. Elizabeth enjoyed traveling, reading, swimming and going to different restaurants.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at a later date with burial of Cremains in Acacia Park, Detroit. The family is being served by the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Mason, MI.
Jo Popham
Jo E. Popham, 79, of Charlotte, died Thursday, March 13, 2008. Mrs. Popham was born April 15, 1928 in Lansing, the daughter of O.B. and Lema (Cantrell) Campbell. Mrs. Popham was a manager for Slenderform Gyms and a receptionist at a doctor's office.
She was preceded in death by her son, Keith Popham in 2007. She was the beloved mother of Sue (Tom DelGiorno) Johnson; granddaughters, Lanta Jo (Randy) Winn, Annamae Jane Popham and Kari Lynn Popham; nephew, Donny Campbell; stepgrandchildren, Helen Anna and Anthony DelGiorno; brothers Jerry Campbell and Don Campbell.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Siren Eaton Shelter or a charity of your choice.

Dorothy L. Poyer
Dorothy L. Poyer, 76, of Eaton Rapids, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2008 at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility in Charlotte.
She was born Feb. 23 1932 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Clayton and Fannie (Hibbs) Marriott.
Dorothy was a former member of the Lansing Moose and was formerly employed by Hoover in Charlotte.
She was a former motorcycle enthusiast who enjoying riding her own motorcycle and was fond of roller skating at the old Eaton Rapids Rink.
She was preceded in death by son, Duane Alden Poyer in 1956 and brother, Donald Marriott.
Surviving are her husband of 33 years, Alden; five children, Mark (Michelle) Rich of North Star, Brian (Cindy) Rich of Harrison, Dawn Pfeiffer of Eaton Rapids, David (Linda) Rich of Lansing, and Erick Rich of Eaton Rapids; three stepchildren, Nola (Mike) VanTyle of Vermontville, Ray (Sue) Poyer of Eaton Rapids and Dale Poyer of Nashville, MI.; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Marriott of FL and Bernard Marriott of Eaton Rapids; sister, Carolyn (Laurence) Beurmann of Marcellus; sister-in-law, JoAnn Marriott of Eaton Rapids; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial luncheon was held Monday, Oct. 13 at the American Legion Post #42 in Charlotte.
For those desiring, memorial gifts may be made to the American Legion Post # 42 in memory of Dorothy Poyer.

Ormond Pugh
Ormond “Orie” James Pugh, 75, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008 surrounded by his loving family. Orie was born July 18, 1933 in Bluffton, Ind., the son of Harry and Lyla (Morey) Pugh, and raised in Elsie, graduating in 1951.
Orie married Nancy Parker, in Angola, Ind., on July 5, 1952. To this marriage were four children, Debra (Gale) Burke, Beverly (Edward) Chapman, Edward Pugh all of Owosso, and James “Skip” of Clare. He enjoyed stock car racing at racetracks in Central Michigan for nine years during the 1950’s, and was a bus driver for Indian Trails for seven years.
On Aug. 31, 1967 he married Sue Peck, who survives.
He has two step-children, Steven (Kerry) Peck, and Shannon (Larry) Bond, both of Charlotte. They have nine wonderful grandchildren, and nine sweet great grandchildren; brother, Harry (Joyce) Pugh of Elsie; and sister, Onalee Churchill of Owosso.
He retired from Leaseway Auto Transport driving trucks. Sue and Orie were instrumental in organizing the Charlotte Eagles 3552, and he served as the first past President, and was a life member. He was a life member of Elsie Masonic Lodge #238, Saladin Shrine and Eaton County Shrine Club, and was a member of the Eaton County Handicap Parking Enforcement Patrol.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Pugh; and his parents.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Ray Strawser and Charles Jensen officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
