Harmon Robinson

Harmon "Junior" Robinson, 84, of Mesa, AZ, formerly of Eaton Rapids, on Saturday, March 8, 2008 in Mesa, AZ, was surrounded by a band of angels and born away to his eternal heavenly home. He was born June 3, 1923, in Bonanza, KY, the son of High and Ida (Adams) Robinson.

He enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corp and served in South Dakota before joining the U.S. Army and serving in WWII. During this time he married Bernice Lafferty in Kentucky on June 25, 1942. After the service, Harmon then went back home to Prestonsburg, KY to work in the coal mines before moving to Michigan to make a better life for his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1990; and sisters, Irene Robinson and Emma Ousley.

"Junior" is survived by five children, Charles (Judy) Robinson, Jr. of Longview, TX, Bereada (Dean) Houston of Eaton Rapids, Gene (Paula) Robinson of Olivet, Lum (Evelyn) Robinson of Marshall, Larry (Sheila) Robinson of White Oak, TX; 21 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie Perry, of Star, SC, Myrtle Lloyd of Springport, Dialpha Robinson of Jackson, Ruby Owens of Springport, and Thelma Moore of Mesa, AZ; brothers, Russell (Catherine) Robinson of Munith, Lester (Judy) Robinson of Olivet, and Roy (Alice) Robinson of TX; brother-in-law, Raymond Ousley of Marshall; and several nieces & nephews.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 15, 2008, at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids with interment following at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids.

Dad was a small town southern gentleman born into a coal mining family.

He loved flying with his sons, enjoyed videotaping family and friends and volunteering and doing crafts in Mesa. He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Those desiring may make contributions to the Ambassador Downs Club House in Mesa.

Elsie Robson

Elsie May Robson was born in Grygla, MN on Jan. 28, 1907, to Louis and Anna (Olson) Carlson, and passed away Jan. 8, 2008.

She enjoyed her 100th birthday party last year that was arranged by her daughter, Sandra and grandchildren, Gwen (David Frestone) Zimmer of Ithaca, Donald (Beth) Zimmer of Big Rapids, and Jennifer (Greg) Weis of Battle Creek, and there were 45 guests in attendance. It was held at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility in Charlotte, where she had been living for the last two years, near her daughter.

After teaching country school for eight years, she met and married George Robson from Belleville. They restored the original Robson farm house under her direction and moved to Belleville in 1954. The house on Tyler Road was first built by Henry Robson, who came from Andes, NY about 1840. Elsie loved flowers, was a member of the Wayne County Extension, and she and George enjoyed vegetable gardening, pinochle, church dinners and visiting with friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Robson in 1999; two sisters, Matilda Knutson and Ina Lein; and a brother, Clarence Carlson.

She is survived by six grandchildren, Michael (Terri) Robson, David (Masami) Robson, and Craig (Nina) Robson; her son, George E. (Wanda) Robson of Willets, CA; great-grandchildren, Kaito, Tacaji, Simone and Nicole of CA. Her daughter, Sandra (Mark) Zimmer, of Charlotte, has three children listed above. The great-grandchildren from these are Caleb and Amelia Freestone of Ithaca, Brettanya Zimmer of Big Rapids, and Meredith Weis of Battle Creek.

Visitation and funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 11, 2008 at David C. Brown Funeral Home, Belleville, with Rev. Jim Walker officiating. Interment was in Tyler Street Cemetery, Van Buren Township, MI.

Judith Rodrigues

Judith Kay Rodrigues, 54, of Hastings, MI, died Oct. 4, 2008. Mrs. Rodrigues was born Sept. 8, 1954 in Antioch, CA.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred Tullis; and brother, Dennis Rodrigues.

Judith is survived by her daughter, Erin (Harley) Sweet of Nashville, MI; grandchildren, Troy, Cody, Shayne, Caleb, Jocelyn; sister, Terri (Gary) of Rounsaville, CA; niece, Teal and nephew, Josh; Matthew Sowles, Robert Lutenberger, and friend, Paulette Sweet.

There will be no services.

Jose Rodriguez

Jose A. Rodriguez, 69, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008. Mr. Rodriguez was born Aug. 2, 1938 in Comal County, TX, the son of Juan and Elena (Saenz) Rodriguez.

Mr. Rodriguez was a heavy equipment operator who worked for the Eaton County Road Commission. He enjoyed golfing, deer hunting, tinkering on cars and watching the Tigers. Mr. Rodriguez was a very giving person who always helped others. The most proud things of his life were going to his grandchildren's sporting events and spending time with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents and twin sister, Angelita Rodriguez.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sandy; son, Joseph Rodriguez, Sr. of Charlotte; daughter, Vicki Rodriguez of Charlotte; five grandchildren, Juan "Jon" Rodriguez, Joseph Rodriguez, Jr., Austin Rodriguez, Mayme DuBois, Cheyenne Rodriguez; sisters, Amelia (Alden) McBride of St. Johns, Juanita (Ernest) Means of Charlotte.

Funeral services were held Jan. 7, 2008 at Pray Funeral Home with Reverend Father Denis Spitzley officiating.

If desired memorial contributions may be made to the family or the American Heart Association.

Vicki Rodriguez

Vicki Lynn Rodriguez, 41, of Charlotte, passed away on Dec. 4, 2008. She was born Feb. 8, 1967 in Charlotte, the daughter of Jose and Sandra (Coffey) Rodriguez.

Vicki loved her children and enjoyed being a mom to all her kid’s friends. She was Charlotte High School Football’s number one fan and never missed a game. Vicki was a cook by trade, employed at Mike’s Sports Page.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jose and grandparents, Juan and Elena Rodriguez.

She is survived by her mother, Sandra; children, Juan Rodriguez and Cheyenne McGinnis; brother, Joe; nephews, Joseph and Austin Rodriguez and niece Mayme DuBois, all of Charlotte.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008 at Pray Funeral Home. If desired, memorials may be made to the family.

James Roher

James E. Roher, 83, of Charlotte, formerly of Lansing, died Monday, March 31, 2008. Mr. Roher was born Oct. 28, 1924 in Hopewell, PA, the son of Robert and Rena (Evans) Roher.

Mr. Roher worked for the John Bean Company until the early 1970's and then worked as a custodian for the Waverly School district until retirement in 1985. He was a Cardinals fan in his younger years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma in 2006 and grandson, Jimmy in 2001.

He is survived by his son, James (Bonnie) Roher of Charlotte and grandson, Jason (Andrea) Roher.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 3, 2008 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Curt Dalaba officiating. Interment was at Millerburg Cemetery in Charlotte.

The family suggest memorial contributions go to Greater Lansing Foodbank.

Virgil Rohrs

Virgil O. Rohrs, 83, died Saturday July 26, 2008 at Community Memorial Hospital, Hicksville, Ohio. He was born on March 30, 1925 in Hicksville Township (Six Corners) the son of Raymond and Lula (Wonderly) Rohrs.

He served in the U.S. Army in WWII from 1944-1946 being awarded the Purple Heart and two bronze stars while serving in the Philippines. He married Berneice Whitman on March 28, 1948. He and Berneice were owners of Rohr's Gas for Less in Hicksville until 1980. He also was a special deputy with the Defiance County Sheriff's Office for many years.

He was preceded in death by a son, Keith; a brother, Carl; and a sister, Grace Swenson.

He is survived by his wife, Berneice of Hicksville; a daughter, Darlene Conti of Asheville, NC; a son, Neal (Jeana) of Charlotte; two grandsons, Austin of Mt. Pleasant, MI and Luke (Mary Beth) of Ithaca, MI; a great-granddaughter, Emma; two brothers, Bud (Mary) of Hicksville, and Max (Judy) of Kissimmee, FL; a sister, Thelma (Merrill) Postma of Hicksville.

Funeral services were held July 30 at Smith & Brown Funeral Home in Hicksville with Rev. Tom Graves officiating. Burial was at Six Corners Cemetery in Hicksville, Ohio.

Memorials may be made to Community Memorial Hospital Foundation or Hospice the Caring Way or Trinity United Methodist Church.

Jerry Root

Jerry Root, 65, of Charlotte, died Dec. 14, 2008.

He was born Oct. 4, 1943 in Charlotte, the son of William and Shirley (Wells) Hines.

Mr. Root was a sergeant for the 199th Field Artillery Army National Guard. He was a member of the Eagles Aerie #3552 and the Moose Lodge in Charlotte. He enjoyed fishing, being outdoors and playing pool at one of the local halls.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Carol; sons, Mike Root and Jeff Root; daughter, Amy (Brad) Rassmusen; stepdaughters, Jennifer Hoag, Jeanie (Ted) Davis and Katie (Thad) Southward; 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; mother, Shirley Hines; mother-in-law, Ruth Edgerton and sister, Linda Perkins.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008 at Pray Funeral Home with Reverend Charles Jenson officiating. Interment was at Bosworth Cemetery in Charlotte.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
