Rebecca Scott
Mrs. Rebecca Ann Scott, 67, of Fort Bragg, Calif., died suddenly on Sunday, July 27, 2008. She was born July 12, 1941, in Charlotte, Mich., the eldest daughter of Robert William Ray and Frances Ann (Youngs) Ray. She married John Douglas Scott in 1995, and the couple lived in Sacramento, Calif., before retiring to Fort Bragg, where they built a lovely home overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
This beautiful, elegant lady spent her girlhood in Charlotte and Sunfield, often barefoot and fishing with a cane pole at her parents’ home on Saubee Lake. As a young woman, she raised five children from her first marriage, to Dick A. Sutherland. Her fiery intellect and compassionate heart, however, prompted her to complete her degree and become a registered nurse.
She began her career in the operating room at Foote Hospital in Jackson, Mich., before she moved to Newport Beach, Calif., in 1981. There, she cared for others for many years as a nurse at Hoag Memorial Hospital.
Becky cared for others outside of her work, too. A committed Catholic, she consistently volunteered both through the Church, such as her work at the soup kitchen at Our Lady of Good Counsel, and outside of it, such as her work with the children of Dana Gray Elementary School.
She enjoyed music, art, and especially literature. A voracious reader, she often read novels in their entirety in a single night. IN Fort Bragg, she was a proud member of the Ruby Thimble, a group of women who meet in friendship to discuss life and art.
Becky is preceded in death by a nephews, Dion Villanueva; a grandchild, Jessica Sutherland; her second husband, Lorenzo (“Larry”) Morelli; and her mother and father.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 15, 2008, at St. Ann Catholic church in Richland, Mich., at 3 p.m. A Rosary was held Friday, August 1, at Chapel by the Sea, Fort Bragg, and a Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, Aug. 2, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Mendocino, followed by a burial at sea.
