Timothy Snider

Timothy Thomas Francis Snider, 53, of Potterville, died Oct. 3, 2008. Mr. Snider was born Feb. 9, 1955 in Lansing, the son of Milford and Marcella (Miller) Snider.

Tim was an avid deer hunter, loved to spend time mushroom hunting, and was a MSU football and basketball fan and vacationing with his family. If asked what he was most proud of, it would definitely be his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Jim Beckwith; grandparents, Bernard and Bea Miller, Eva and John Snider; and special mentor, Leon LaFave.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila Marie Snider; children, Justin (Meghan) Snider, and Stephanie Snider (J.T. Dachtler); grandchildren, Meah Snider, Nathen Snider; siblings, Judy Beckwith, Bonnie (Don) Fisher, Barb (Bill) Dean, Sue (Joe) Hildenbrand, John (Lila) Snider, Bernie (Phyllis) Snider, twin Teresa (Rick) VanFossen, Mark (Deb) Snider; parents-in-law, Gene (Wayne) and Verda Humes; stepmother, Lillian “Mazie” Shore; step-brothers, Dave Winkel, Doug Winkel, Dan Winkel; step-sister, Dorothy; brothers-in-law, Wayne Humes, and Jeff (Sherry) Humes; and lots of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Becky Morrison officiating. Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Phillip Snyder

Phillip E. Snyder, age 84, WWII veteran, passed away June 18, 2008 in Florida.

Phil leaves his wife, Jeannette, son David (Patrica) daughter Kristie, brother, Raymond (Justine), sister, Glenna Potter, three grandchildren, four great grand children and several nieces and nephews.

Phil delivered mail for the Charlotte Post Office and was a member of the Charlotte Fire Department. He and Jeanette enjoyed traveling the United States with their mobile home.

Phil was very accommodating and had many friends. He loved playing shuffleboard and won many trophies.

The family will miss him greatly. By his request, there will be no services.

Patricia Sorrick

Patricia W. Sorrick, 86, of Albion, MI, formerly of Springport, MI, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2008 at Emerald Forest Assistant Living in Marengo Township. She was born Sept. 1, 1921 in Detroit, MI to William and Eleanor (Patrick) Williams.

On July 6, 1943 she married Douglas Marshall Sorrick who preceded her in death in July 1992. Patricia worked as a hospital laboratory technician at Hayes Green Beach Hospital for 30 years in Charlotte. She retired on Oct. 20, 1984. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Albion, MI. Patricia was also member of Crystal Sailing Club in Crystal, MI. She enjoyed bowling, gardening and canning. She was intelligent, independent, proud and made friends easily. She will be sorely missed.

Along with her husband, Patricia was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Porter; and brother, Harry Bruce Williams.

Surviving are one daughter, Freyja Davis, of Albion, MI; three sons, Christopher Sorrick of Alpena, MI, Charles Sorrick of Rochester, MI and David Sorrick of Omah, NE; one brother, Thomas Ray Williams of Panama City, FL; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service was held Friday, June 27 at United Methodist Church, Wesley Chapel, with Reverend Dwayne Bagley officiating. Committal will be at a later date.

There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Albion District Library and Hospice of Jackson and Oaklawn.

Dale Southward

Dale Southward, 78, of charlotte, died Friday, June 6, 2008 at the Eaton Community Hospice House, Charlotte. Dale was born June 13, 1929 in Charlotte, the son of Melvin J. and Ann May (Baum) Southward and had been a life resident of the Brookfield and Walton Township area.

He attended the Mahan Rural School through the eighth grade and then attended Olivet High School from where he graduated in 1950. He was a former state vice president for the Future Farmers of America. He was a life-long farmer and had been employed at the Farm Bureau Ele3vator, the Community Oil Company for 11 years and the Aluminum Extrusions Co. for five years. He enjoyed bowling and pitching horseshoes.

He was preceded in death by his parents in 1981; his sister, Zella Andrews in 1988 and brother-in-law, Arthur Andres in 1997.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Gloria J. (Eishen) Southward; three children, Nanette (Mike) Visger of Vermontville, Tone Dale (Karen) Southward of Charlotte and Pamela Jean (Gordon) Harder of Eaton Rapids; 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Rev. Irene Vittoz of Brookfield-Eaton United Methodist Church officiating. Interment was in the Perry Cemetery in Brookfield Township.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or the Eaton Community Hospice. Envelopes available at the funeral home.

Jane Southward

Jane E. (Hubert) Southward, 83, of Jackson, formerly of Olivet, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008 at the Vista Grande Villa in Jackson. Jane was born March 19, 1924 in Albion to Dean and Ruth (Ford) Hubert.

She attended Bath Mills Rural School and graduated from Albion High School in 1941. She moved to Olivet in 1943 and married Wayne Eli "Joe" Southward on March 29, 1953. Joe died on March 10, 2003, 19 days short of their 50th wedding anniversary. Jane worked at Gem Dairy in Albion for two years and Olivet State Bank (now Independent Bank-South MI) for 42 years from where she retired. They joined the Boilin' T Model T Club and in Sept. 1993 they met with a group of friends and founded the Crank & Throttle Model A Club of Olivet where Joe served as President the first three years and Jane was Treasurer of the Club for many years. They were very active in both Clubs and traveled across the United States attending tours and meeting friends.

Jane was an active member of the Olivet Congregational Church and of the Women's Fellowship Club. She moved to Vista Grande Villa Retirement Home, Jackson, in Aug. 2005 where she participated in many activities there.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne; two sisters, Grace Van Zandt and Mary Gregg and a brother, Ralph Hubert.

Jane is survived by her brother, Gerald H. (Dolores) Hubert of CA and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte with Rev. Jack Brown of the Olivet Congregational Church officiating. Interment in Perry Cemetery in Brookfield Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may go to the Olivet Congregational Church, Hospice of Jackson & Oaklawn, the American Cancer Society or charity of your choice. Envelopes available at the Funeral Home.

Dennis Owen Souza

Dennis Owen Souza, 77, of Eaton Rapids, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2008 in Lansing. Dennis was born July 1, 1930 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Otto and Madeline (DeFrates) Souza.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Korea and retired from Oldsmobile in 1987 after serving for 35 years.

Dennis is survived by five children, Sheila (Rick) Cook of Lansing, Teri (Howard) Libin of Fla., Steve (Carol) Souza of Lansing, Ron (Lori) Souza of Westphalia, and Ken (Mary Beth) Souza of Westphalia; eight grandchildren, Nichole, Jason and Erin Souza, Justin (Amy) and Kirk Souza, Travis, Nathan and Matthew Souza; four step-grandchildren, Jamie Fuhr, Kirsten, Denton and Andrew Wingeier; four step-great-grandchildren, Justin, Jacob and Zepplin Souza, and Olivia Howe; and many cousins.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.

Neva Spore

Neva Bell (Phillips) Spore, 92, of Charlotte, peacefully passed away Sunday, June 29, 2008, at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility, Charlotte, with her daughter at her side. Neva was born July 3, 1915, in Delta, OH, the daughter of Fredrick Grover and Orpha Bliss (Dickason) Phillips.

Her family moved to Lansing in 1919. She was married to Ned Spore on Oct. 7, 1937, at the Baptist Church Parsonage, Bellevue, and lived in Charlotte the remainder of her life. Neva and Ned were married 25 years when he passed away July 1, 1963. Neva was a member of the Charlotte Church of the Nazarene since 1940. She held many offices and responsibilities in the church, but her main interest and concern were the children, and she enjoyed teaching Sunday school children for 55 years.

Neva was a wife, homemaker, and devoted to meeting the needs of other children. She was employed at Wilcox Gay Corporation during the 50's. Neva loved children and as a widow she was a "NANNY" to children of six different families in their homes, in the Charlotte area from 1963-80, at which time she retired.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ned of 25 years; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Phillips; three brothers, Donald, Robert, teenage brother, Elbert Phillips; sister-in-law, Mrs. Lola (Don) Phillips; a niece, (Trudy Phillips-Haight-Hiscock) and one nephew, Roswell Spore.

She is survived by one daughter, Donna Jean (Dan Mikesell) of Battle Creek; one grandson, Marc (Leslie) Mikesell of Colorado Springs, CO; one granddaughter, Marci Jean Mikesell-Colosa (Kevin Colosa) and two step-great-grandsons, Thereon and Zachary Colosa, St. Jonhnsbury, VT; one sister-in-law, Maxine (Dull) Phillips; two nieces, Judy (Don) Bever, Terri (Lynn) Irwin, and many great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 with Pastor, Rev. Glenn Neal, Rev. Arthur Salisbury and Rev. Duane Royston officiating. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery, Kalamo Township.

Memorial donations may be made to the Eaton County Medical Facility Activity Department, Eaton Community Hospice or Charlotte Church of the Nazarene.

Edla Sproat

Edla M. Sproat, 86, of Wayland, died Tuesday, September 16, 2008. Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte.

Bo Stafford

Bo Allen Stafford was born Sept. 15, 2008 and joined his Lord on Sept. 17, 2008. He will always be loved and remembered by his father, Jonathon Stafford; mother, Jamie Stafford; and brothers, Kadyn and Luke (Bo's twin).

He was also surrounded by love from his uncles, Jeff Jones, Josh Stafford; cousin, Jalon Jones; grandparents, Doug and Teresa Jones, Kenny and Tammy Meade and Ron and Nelly Stafford; great-grandparents, Stan and Mary Trumble, Harry and Ruth Jones, Bruce and Linda Brandt, Skip and Carol Terburg, Ken and Sharron Meade, Paul and Jerry Stafford, and Karen Matuschka; and great-great-grandma, Wilma Running.

The family received visitors at the funeral home on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, with Bo's funeral service at 7 p.m. Interment took place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Vermontville.

Memorial contributions can be made directly to the family of Bo Stafford. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Daniels Funeral Home in Nashville, MI.
