Thomas Carpenter
Thomas Carpenter, 46, of Charlotte, died Friday, March 9, 2007 as a result of an automobile accident. Mr. Carpenter was born March 6, 1961 in Charlotte, the son of Harry and Evelyn (Good) Carpenter.
He was a home builder for Central Michigan Builders.
He was preceded in death by his father; grandparents, Gale and Inez Good; and brother, Terry on March 8, 2007.
He is survived by children, Darcey, Travis and Lynsey Carpenter, all of Charlotte; grandchildren, Cloee Englel, Ryan Engel, Olivia Gowell, William Carpenter, Mercadez Kelley; sisters, Sheila (Jerry) Eldridge, Sandy Carpenter and Ron Betts, and Sherry (Lewis) Eberly.
Funeral services were held for Thomas and his brother Terry at 11 a.m. March 14 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Chuck Jensen officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Betty Case
Betty Case, 97 years young, of Olivet died Wednesday, April 11, 2007. Mrs. Case was born Elizabeth Jane Stout April 21, 1909 in Marshall, to Claude and Clara (Whitted) Stout.
She was a 1927 graduate of Ann Arbor High School and graduated from the former Battle Creek College in 1931 with BS in foods and nutrition. She was senior class president of both her high school and college classes.
In Marshall on Feb. 2, 1935 she married Herbert Roland Case, son of Drs. James T. and Helena (Kellogg) Case. Mr. Case preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 1994. They raised four children. She was a career dietician and worked in visiting nurses and hospital organizations in Chicago, Ill.; Hawaii; Seattle, Wash.; Orange, Ca.; Battle Creek and Marshall as their family moved following her husband’s career.
Upon retirement, they owned and operated a small dairy farm with their daughter and grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert R. Case; a granddaughter, Catherine W. Case; two sisters, Harriet Purcell and Margaret Easlick; and two brothers, William and Richard (Dee) Stout.
She is survived by her son, Robert R. (Judy) Case of Puyallup, Wash.; daughters, Peggy Parrott and Mary McGuire, of Olivet; and Kay (Dennis) Rogers of Garberville, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Per Betty’s wishes she will be cremated. A memorial service will be planned for a later date. Memorials may be made to the Eaton Community Hospice House, 2675 South Cochran, Charlotte, MI 48813 in her memory.

Mary Castner
Mary L. Castner, 78, of Charlotte, died June 16, 2007. Mrs. Castner was born Aug. 4, 1928, in Saint Joe, Indiana, the daughter of Albert and Violet (Dermot) Moore.
Mrs. Castner was a member of Chester Gospel Church. She was an active volunteer at the Charlotte Senior Center. She formerly worked at Wilcox-Gay and was a bottle inspector for Owens-Illinois until her retirement. She was a great cook. Mrs. Castner enjoyed sharing her talents as a cook and giving her crochet and knitted gifts to her many friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her son Daryl in 1987. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Roscoe Moore in 2006.
She is survived by Keith, her husband of 60 years; and son, Michael (Loralee) of Oakland, CA. Funeral services were June 20 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Marc Livingston officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Laura L. Caterino
Laura L. Caterino, age 96 of Eaton Rapids died Friday, May 11, 2007 at Spectrum Health United Memorial Hospital in Greenville, MI. Born March 30, 1911 in Mt. Pleasant the daughter of Daniel and Alice (Crippen) Jones. Mrs. Caterino was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Patsy in 1983 and 2 sons, Frank and Bob.
She is survived by a son, Richard (Ruby) Caterino of Stanton; 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter Catholic Church in Eaton Rapids with burial following in the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. Family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to Mass. Arrangements were through the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids.
Judith Challender
Judith A. Challender, 62, of Charlotte, died Sunday, Dec. 16. Challender was born July 6, 1945 in Lansing, the daughter of Delbert and Ruth Ann (Gladys) Brown.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Bernard) Stambaugh of Charlotte; daughter, Barb Palomo; son, Jim Crawley of Bellevue; son, Todd Crawley of Lansing; 15 grandchildren; brothers, Don Brown of Lansing, Frank Brown of FL and Bud Brown of FL.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Lola Chenoweth
Lola Chenoweth, 81, died Monday, March 19, 2007. Mrs. Chenoweth was born Sept. 25, 1925, in Geneva, Ind. the daughter of Theodore and Elizabeth (Koenig) Hendricks.
Mrs. Chenoweth was the Eaton County Educational Credit Union Manager for over 20 years. Upon her retirement she traveled extensively with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Charlotte. Mrs. Chenoweth enjoyed sewing, canning food and upholstery. She was most proud of her family and children's accomplishments.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, George W. in 1994 and eight siblings.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie Murray of Charlotte; daughter, Kathy (Doug) Fuehring of Hart; son, Bill (Linda Olivieri) Chenoweth of East Lansing; son, James (Carol) Chenoweth of Ann Arbor; nine grandchildren, Troy (Parrity) Murray of Charlotte, Shawn (Antonia) Murray of Charlotte, Stephanie, Jeffrey and Kristina Fuehring of Hart, Katie (Bill) Lopez of Houston, Ellen Chenoweth of East Lansing, Elizabeth and Michael Chenoweth of Ann Arbor; great-grandchildren, Athena and Adara Murray; brother, Jule Hendricks of Eaton, Ind.
Funeral services were held March 22 at noon at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Father Denis Spitzley officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lansing.

Karen Chin
Karen Jeanne Chin, age 31, passed away March 29, 2007. Karen was born in Garden City, Michigan on Sept. 3, 1975 to Joseph and Mona (Albert) Chin.
She graduated from Charlotte High School and attended Lansing Community College. Karen loved all kinds music and was employed by Mustang Agency, booking bands throughout the United States. Many of those bands will be holding a memorial concert in Karen's honor in Battle Creek on April 29, at Planet Rock.
As a former member of the Charlotte Band, Karen continued to enjoy playing the flute and was teaching her daughter to play. She was a good cook and as a former restaurant manager, loved cooking for her family, school and church events. She was highly mechanical and took pride in being able to fix anything by herself. Her hobbies included anything to do with music, riding ATVs and water skiing with her children and watching movies with her family. Karen loved animals, especially her beloved terrier, Frankie.
She enjoyed computers and became proficient at Web design and often created advertising and web sites for local businesses. Karen was a great fan of the Eaton Rapids High School wrestling team, attending every event. She also appeared on local television recently as a cohost of "On The Road," a show for campers. Karen married Dustin Graham in 1996 at St. Peter Catholic Church, where she was a member.
She is survived by her daughter Catherine (Catie) Chin age 12, son Nicholas Graham, age 10 and son Cameron Graham, age 7; her parents Joseph and Mona Chin of Eaton Rapids; and her siblings, Catherine (Paul) Schwartz of Swansea, IL, Joseph Chin III (Laura), of Lansing, and Michael and Andrew Chin of Eaton Rapidds. She is also survived by her grandmother Maria Bustamonte of Jefferson City, MO and her dear friends, Uncle and Aunt David and Maryann Albert of Channahon, IL, dear friend Michael Ohm of Jackson, MI and Justin Garza of Eaton Rapids, who she called her "honorary brother". Karen dearly loved her neice Alexis and her nephews Joseph Chin IV and Tate Schwartz.
A rosary and funeral Mass were held at St. Peter Catholic Church, Eaton Rapids and graveside services were at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids, officiated by her pastor, Fr. Bennett Constantine.

James Myron Clarke
James Myron Clarke of Onondaga MI, age 91 died Saturday, June 16, 2007. He was born February 20, 1916 in Aurelius Twp. to William J. and Minnie E. (Bateman) Clarke. James was a full-time farmer following the path of his father and grandfather. Reluctant to retire, he continued to do field work until this year when his health forced him to slow down. He was very active in his community serving on many boards and organizations, including; Eaton County Farm Bureau, Eaton Farm Bureau Co-op (18 yrs.), Tri-County Electric Co-op (23 yrs.), Mich. Electric Co-op Association (10 yrs.), Mich. Farm Bureau Services, Onondaga Twp. Board of Review, as well as a f-H Community and Handicraft leader (20 yrs.) and 4-H Council. In his younger days he loved to fish, hunt and trap. He enjoyed playing Dominoes with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his sisters Aletha Clarke, Mary (Raymond) Stanke, and brother Herbert (Shirley) Clarke.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Dorothy M. (Towns), daughter Carol (Kenneth) Janousek of Olivet, sons Carl (Rebecca) Clarke of Alpena, and Robert (Denise) Clarke of Eaton Rapids, 10 wonderful grandchildren; De3bra (Steve) Graeve, Mark (Rose) Janousek, Sandra (Joe) Costello, Christ (Beth), Theresa, John, Geoffrey, Leigh (Max) Sprauer, Joseph, and Alexander; 16 exceptional great grandchildren; 1 sister, Lita (Samuel) Gillett of Eaton Rapids and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday June 20, 1:00 p.m. at Griffith U.M. Church with interment following at Griffith Cemetery with Jack Fugate officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday June 19 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids, and at the church prior to the funeral. Donations in his honor may be made to the Griffith U.M. Church building fund or the American Heart Association.
David J. Clement
David Joseph Clement, 60, of Charlotte, entered eternal life early Monday morning, Jan. 15, 2007, at his home. David was born Nov. 14, 1946 in Marquette, a son of Adlord and Bernice (Jolin) Clement.
He was raised in Marquette and was a graduate of the Graveraet High School. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam era, being stationed in Korea. Following his honorable military discharge, David returned to Marquette where he was employed in the maintenance department at Northern Michigan University. He later moved to Texas where he opened and operated his own business, Brazos Valley Maintenance Masters, until 1986 when he became disabled. He moved back to Marquette where he resided from 1987 to 1990. He returned to Bryan, Texas, residing there until 2001 when he moved to the Lansing area. In his leisure, David greatly enjoyed being with his grandchildren, camping, coin collecting and adding to his vast collection of eagles. David was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Grand Ledge and the Charlotte VFW.
David was preceded in death by his father, Adlord Clement; step-father, Alex Balwinski; father-in-law, Heydon Dixon; son-in-law, Dennis Wager; and nephew, John Clement.
Survivors include his wife, Gayle K. (Dixon) Clement, whom he married July 14, 1990 at St. Christopher Catholic Church in Marquette; three daughters, Tina (Zane) Mackenzie of Houghton, Wendy Wager of Marquette and Karyn (Trent) Upchurch of Bedias, Texas; a son, Scott (Vivian) Goodreau of Negaunee; 11 grandchildren; his mother, Bernice Clement of Marquette; a sister, Kathy Goodreau of Marquette; and brothers, Richard (Cathy) Clement and Michael Clement, both of Marquette; his mother-in-law, Nancy Dixon of Kalamazoo; brother-in-law, Brian Dixon of Comstock; several nieces and nephews; and close friends, Mark and Sue Henry of Lansing and Ron Goodreau of Marquette.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Christopher Catholic Church on Jan. 19, with Rev. Jeff Johnson as celebrant. Escorts were Brian Dixon, Zane Mackenzie, Trent Upchurch, Dan Clement, Ron Goodreau and Mark Henry. A reception for family and friends followed in the church fellowship hall. Inurnment was made in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Christopher Catholic Church, 2372 Badger Street, Marquette, MI 49855.
