Gretchen Ann Holwig
Gretchen Ann Holwig, age 83 formerly of Eaton Rapids and Livonia, Michigan died Saturday, May 26th, 2007 after a long respiratory illness. Born to Lloyd L. and Iva E. (Wilcox) Carr at Fort Dodge in Dodge City Kansas on August 9, 1923. Orphaned at the age of 11, she and her brothers, Bill, Bennie and Bruce Carr relocated to the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Home in Eaton Rapids. After graduating from Eaton Rapids High School class of 1941 she attended the University of Kansas School of Medicine graduating in 1946 and returned to work at the VFW Hospital and the local Eaton Rapids Hospital. She met and married Guy M. Holwig of Brookfield Twp., Eaton Rapids on August 6, 1949. Her and Guy with their two children relocated to Livonia where she continued her 40 year career as a Registered Nurse at St. Mary’s Mercy and Garden City Hospitals where she managed the kidney dialysis units and worked in surgery. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Guy J. Holwig in 2001 with whom she enjoyed life to the fullest and experienced travels throughout the U.S., Canada, Hawaii, China and Amazon jungles of Venezuela. She and Guy were active in the Livonia Community as original founding members of the Livonia YMCA and team nurse for the Livonia Junior Athletic League along with her husband during his 16 year tenure as LJAL League President as well as members of the Livonia Elks Club. They both were avid outdoor enthusiasts enjoying snowmobiling, fishing and golfing as members of the Alpena Country Club. After retirement in 1986 they moved to their home on Beaver Lake, Michigan.
Gretchen is survived by her two sons and daughter-in-law, William Martin C(Christine Carol) Holwig, Bennie Paul (Colleen Ann) of Livonia, her grandchildren, William Guy Holwig, Julie C. Potvin and Michael E. Potvin. She was deeply loved by many friends and family and she will be missed by all of us.
Funeral services will be held at the Skinner Funeral Home at 315 S. River Street, Eaton Rapids, MI. Visitation will be Wednesday May 30 from 2-4 and 6-8. Funeral services will be Thursday May 31 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Oakwood Cemetery in Eaton Rapids.
Gertrude M. Hopcraft
Gertrude M. Hopcraft of Onondaga, age 93, passed away Thursday, October 4, 2007 in Jackson. Gertrude was born September 2, 1914 in Springport, MI, the daughter of Gerald and Maude (Orrison) Osmun. She was a member of the Parma Rebekah Lodge #430, a 4-H leader for many years, and a member of the neighborhood Cackle Club. Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Hopcraft in 1992 and son, Jim Hopcraft in 2004.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Sharlene Hopcraft and Mary Ellen (Frank) Andrews, all of Springport; son, Jerry (Carolyn) Hopcraft of Springport; 9 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 2 great-great granddaughters; sister, Minnie LaVerne Nicols of Jackson; sister-in-law, Ruth Cockroft of Springport; and 1 niece and 1 nephew.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids. Interment followed at Tompkins Cemetery, Jackson County.
Harold Horn
Harold P. Horn, 87, of Charlotte, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007 at Spectrum Health-Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids after a short illness.
He was born Oct. 31, 1919 in Carmel Township, the son of Paul and Minnie (Zook) Horn and had lived most of his life in Eaton County. He was a graduate of Charlotte High School, had served in the U.S. Navy during WWI and was a life member of the Maple City Post #2406 VFW in Charlotte. He had been employed as an electrician for General Motors in Lansing, retiring in 1981 after 30 years of service.
Surviving are: his daughter, Shirley A. (Dale) Hice, of Hastings; three grandchildren, Danyle (Jonathan) Schiefla, Dannette Hice and Derek Hice and one great-grandson, Tanner Schiefla.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Esther Mae (Jaaquette) Horn in 1999.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services were held Friday, Jan. 19, 2007 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte. Memorial contributions may go to the charity of one’s choice.
Carey Hosey
Carey L. Hosey, 40, of Mesa, Arizona, has died. Mr. Hosey was born November 5, 1966 in Charlotte, Michigan the son of Myron and Ida (Byrd) Hosey.
Mr. Hosey was a painter who enjoyed golf, fishing and sports. His children were the pride of his life.
He was preceded in death by his father, Myron in 1983; mother, Ida in 1988; and sister Donna Kay Hosey in 1997.
He is survived by his daughters, Jamee LeAnn Hosey of Florida and Ida Lee Hosey of Belding; and son, Myron Patrick Carey Hosey of Belding; sisters, Kandy Eldred, Jodie (Pat) Malloy and Marion Galante; brother, Patrick Hosey and several nephews and nieces. Funeral Services were held 10:30 a.m. April 21, 2007, at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Travis Nightengale officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Vermontville. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Carey's children.

Ron Howard
Ron "Howie" Howard, 54, passed away peacefully after a long illness in New Orleans, La., on Sept. 12, 2007. Ron was born on July 22, 1953 in South Bend, IN, and lived most of his life in Charlotte.
Ron will be sadly and forever missed by his family and friends.
Surviving are his father, Richard Howard; mother, Patricia Rinck (Bill); daughter, Holly Brzycki (Jeremy); grandson, Alex Brzycki; son, Devrin Beebe; brothers, Reg Howard (Lanai), Randy Howard (Sandy); sisters, Cheryl Bolt (Tom), Kathy Verhage (Todd); eight step-brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held at the Vermontville Bible Church on Sept. 22, 2007.
Neil Hudson
Neil Hudson, 85, of Charlotte, formerly of Jackson, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007. Mr. Hudson was born in Saginaw, the son of Kenneth Hudson and Pam Brown.
He is survived by his son, Glenn (Delores) Hudson of Martin, Tenn.; son, Bryan Hudson of Michigan Center; and daughter, Beverly (Dr. Robert) Hudson-Schneider of Paris, Texas.
There will be private family services at a later date.

Betty Hughes
Betty M. Hughes, 76, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, June 19, 2007 in Lansing. Mrs. Hughes was born Jan. 14, 1931 in Ann Arbor, the daughter of John and Julia (Sheffler) Wright and had been a Charlotte resident for 20 years.
She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Charlotte.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Hughes in 1993.
Survivors include, two daughters, Linda (Willard) Michaud of Charlotte and Vicki (David) Motsinger of Grass Lake, MI; one son, Frank (Cindy) Hughes of Manitou Beach, MI; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Ann Dunkley of Dexter, MI, Joan Deplanty of Holt, MI and Judy Metty of Belleville, MI.
Memorial Services were held June 23, 2007 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Pastor Melinda Halom officiating. Interment of cremains was in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may go to the Diabetes Association.
Rita Lucile Hunting
Rita Lucile Hunting, 77, of Eaton Rapids, formerly of Kennesaw, Ga., passed away Monday, Feb. 5, 2007 in Lansing. Rita was born Aug. 7, 1929 in Detroit, the daughter of Fred and Rose (Simond) Chauvin.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Joe Hunting; three sons, Greg Hunting of West Bloomfield, Keith Hunting of Grand Rapids and Douglas Hunting of Charlotte; seven grandchildren, Nicholas, Eric and Sarah Hunting and Michelle, Nicolle, Abbie and Holly Hunting; three sisters, Cora Carmichael of Farmington Hills, Marcella Dyck of Port Richey, Fla. and Janet (Frank) Cosens of Loudon, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
A private family memorial gathering will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity or church of your choice in memory of Rita Hunting.

Lorena E. Huntoon-Lindahl
Lorena E. Huntoon-Lindahl, nee: Spencer, 95, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007 at the Hayes-Green Beach Hospital. Mrs. Lindahl was born Sept. 18, 1911 in Pontiac, the daughter of Walter A. and Lodema (Beach) Spencer and had been a Charlotte resident since 1936.
She was a graduate of Bellevue High School and the Battle Creek School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse having served as head surgical nurse at Hayes Green Beach Hospital, from where she retired in 1972 after 27 years of service. She was a member of the First Congregational Church UCC and its Blanch Moyer Circle, was a member of the Charlotte Business Women’s Guild, the GFWC-Charlotte, the Courthouse Square Association, had served as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and had been involved in many other activities in the community.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Almond B. Huntoon in 1955 and Carl Lindahl in 1983; daughter, Mariana M. Love/Towers and step-son, Raymond Lindahl.
Surviving are three grandchildren, Lisa (Kevin) Jackson of Sunfield, Michael (Jane) Love of Charlotte and Loren (Barbara) Love of Eagle; six great grandchildren; step-son, Charles (Patricia) Lindahl of Webster, NY; step-daughter, Dorthea Lewis of Edmond, OK; step-daughter-in-law, Bonnie Lindahl of San Francisco, CA; 10 step-grandchildren; numerous step-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held Feb. 17 at the First Congregational Church UCC in Charlotte with Rev. Philip Hobson officiating. Memorial contributions are suggested tot eh First Congregational Church UCC or Hayes Green Beach Hospital. Envelopes available at the Funeral Home.
