Noveda Jones

On Jan. 16, 2007, Noveda Jones (Wood), much beloved family matriarch, left this world and is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and is reunited with her loving husband, the late Orval Jones.

Noveda was born on April 20, 1912 in Michigan, to parents Burr and Ruth Wood. Her sweet smile and loving spirit were a great blessing to her family and friends, and to anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. She loved in deed, not just in word. She was tireless in her efforts to give of her time and her wisdom. Noveda loved to crochet, and to bless others with the works of her hands. Fiercely independent to the end, she could be ever so gentle, or ever so strong, as need be. No one better emulated the “Virtuous Woman,” spoken of in Proverbs chapter 31, summed up in verse 29: “Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.” Her presence will forever be greatly missed by her loving family.

Noveda was preceded in death by her husband Orval; her daughter, Ilene; sisters, Phyllis Richardson, Oral Pruden; brothers, Lewis, Leon and Victor Wood.

She is survived by her daughter, Vada (Merl) Kenney and her son, Erwin Jones; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 24 great great grandchildren; sisters, Feleniece Miller, Genevieve Eno and Joan Jones; many nephews and nieces; special friends, Apostle Francis and Valerie Odai and family of Ghana, West Africa.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Pastor Terry LaDuke and Walter Miars officiating. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.

Together they established their first farm in 1951 and raised their two children DeWayne and Garry. Lonnie, their third child, would come along 15 years later. Virginia worked along with Bill, farming, milking cows, driving tractor and, of course, raising three boys. She joined the Extension Club and Dark Corners township chapter in Marshall in 1949 and spent many hours crafting, cooking and performing community service. She also belonged to the 25 Year Club for Post General Foods.

Virginia and Bill enjoyed traveling together and were members of the Travel Trailer of America Club. They camped in many places throughout the country, often taking their youngest child, Lonnie with them. They had a cabin in the Upper Peninsula near Manistique where they enjoyed fishing and winter deer hunting. Virginia spent her winter retirement years with Bill in Brownsville, Texas until Bill’s failing health. Virginia remained active after Bill’s death in 1987. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her great-great-granddaughter. She loved feeding her family at family gatherings and trying new recipes out on everyone and simply spending time with all of her family. She visited her family’s churches at Pleasantview Family Church in Dowling and Charlotte Church of Christ.
