Rodney Klink
Rodney William Klink, 51, a longtime resident of Eaton Rapids, passed away peacefully this day in the year of our Lord, Aug. 21, 2007. Words cannot express the sadness and joy that comes with saying goodbye to this father, brother, and friend to all who had the privilege of making his acquaintance. Sadness in saying goodbye and never again being able to sit and talk on a quiet summers night. Joy in knowing that the commitment he made in giving his life to the one who is able to save, will indeed give him an eternal peace that “will pass all understanding.”
Rodney was an excellent athlete who truly loved playing the sport of baseball and softball. This talent was seen at an early age with his being elected to the Little League Hall of Fame in Georgia in 1968. Rodney’s love of playing ball continued throughout the years playing in various softball leagues in the Eaton Rapids area with both family and friends. Those that had the pleasure of playing with Rodney will always be able to reflect and think on what a great player he was, but also on what a wonderful example he was for sportsmanship to those he was in opposition. If you did not have the pleasure of playing ball with Rodney, you surely must have been a partaker in his profession of cooking.
For many years, Rodney could be found early in the morning cooking and serving to many of the Eaton Rapids residents at various eating establishments throughout the area. Having been a partaker of Rodney’s cooking, he was always eager to inform that he had “added something new to the menu!” It was all good. Not only did he serve in the kitchen, he also served others when he started his own painting business a number of years ago. One could always be assured that if you hired Rodney to paint you were going to get a fair price and was going to be done to the best of his ability. Rodney’s life was a life exemplary of service to others in all that he did. His life of humility and kindness would be a hard act to follow.
He is survived by one daughter, Frankie Lynn Reynolds of Eaton Rapids; step-mother, Rose Klink of Lansing; brothers and sisters, Sherry King of Eaton Rapids, Michael (Beth) Klink of Middletown CT, Randy Klink of Eaton Rapids; step-brothers and sisters, Darrell Garnsay of Narrow Lake, Dorothy Garnsay of Eaton Rapids, Jason (Amy) Garnsay of Eaton Rapids, Bud Garnsay of Enid, OK, Curt (Linda) Garnsay of Nashville, TN; and several nieces & nephews.
Memorial services were held Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007 at the Robbins United Methodist Church, Eaton Rapids.
In closing, Rodney’s family would like to express their deep and heartfelt thanks to all who helped giving of their time and effort during his brief, but devastating illness. It is hard to fathom what the family would have done without the unselfish love and concern given to one who only cared about doing for others. A special thanks goes out to one young woman that brought an enormous amount of joy to Rodney these past years. That woman is his daughter, Frankie. If Rodney were able to write one final goodbye to anyone, it would be to Frankie. So Frankie, this writer, based on past conversations with Rodney, wants you to know that your father says goodbye to you and he loves you with an eternal love. He thanks you for doing the very best that you could in his time of need and only hopes the best for you. You were, and are, the love of his life.
