Frederick Ray Long
Frederick Ray Long, 95, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility.
Mr. Long was born in Culpepper County, Va., July 31, 1911 the son of Wayne and Rose Long. He was an elevator manager of Farm Bureau for over 35 years and was married to Frances Louise McCartney in 1939. He belonged to the Civilian Conservation Corp. in the Upper Peninsula where he planted trees and prepared new roads from 1936 until 1939.
He is survived by his wife, Frances; sons, Jack (Carol) Long of Newaygo, and Paul (Belinda) Long of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Kristin Long, Jason (Julie) Long, Robert (Stacy) Long, Jeanne Long, Sarah Long, and Katherine Long; great-grandchildren; Jason's children, Justice, Jaylee, Jaxi and Josiah Long; and Robert's children, Anthony and Gracie Long.
Funeral services were held May 19 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Kendall Lewis officiating. Interment followed at Lakeside Cemetery in Lake Odessa.

Donna Lownsbery
Donna J. Lownsbery, 80, of Potterville, died May 13, 2007. Mrs. Lownsbery was born November 8, 1926 in Lansing, the daughter of William and Grace (Miller) Barnhart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen; and four siblings.
She is survived by daughter, Sharon Perrine of Houghton Lake; daughter, Patricia Hedin of Potterville; son, John (Julie) Lownsbery of Mt. Pleasant; son, Roger (Donna S.) Lownsbery of Lansing; son, Mark (Janet) Lownsbery of Potterville; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brother, Terry Barnhart of Potterville and brother Mike (Merry) Barnhart of Potterville.
Funeral services were held May 17 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Reverend Brian Blount officiating. Interment was at Ft. Custer Cemetery in Battle Creek. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice House. Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Diamond Luka
Diamond Grace Luka, the infant daughter of Jeffery and Valerie (King) Luka, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing.
She is survived by her sister, Angel; and brother, Devilin Luka; grandcparents, Abbie and Don King of Charlotte; grandmother, Jennifer Remington of St. Joseph; grandfather, Bud Aves of Grand Ledge; great grandparents, Mary Ellen and LaVerne Aves; great grandfather, Raymond Hutchins and great grandmother, Wanda King.
Fuenral services were held July 16, 2007 at the Charlotte Assembly of God Church with Pastor Mark Woodbury officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte. Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Lila Lumbert
Lila V. (Weir) Lumbert, of Lansing, formerly of Portland, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother went to the Lords Rose garden on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007 after a long battle with Alzheimer's at the age of 91. Lila was born Nov. 9, 1915 in Alto, MI, the daughter of Elmer Simon and Cora Edna (Harris) Weir.
She graduated from Grand Ledge High School in 1933. Lila worked as an inspector for Chrysler Corp. in Lyons, where she retired in 1974. Lila loved traveling, sewing and going to her children and grandchildren's sporting events where you could hear her yelling.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; her son, Wayne; both her parents; and one brother, Sid; and sister, Ruth.
Surviving are, her children from a previous marriage: sons, Sonny (Ellen) of Lansing, Jim (Martha) of DeWitt, Clifford of Sunfield, Jerry (Merlene) of Palo, Bob (Dawn) of Mulliken and Larry (Sandy) of Oakdale, Conn. Her daughters, Gladah Thelen of Fowler, Jean Lumbert of Lansing, Wendy (Lin) Mater of Mulliken, and Cindy (Dennis) Russell of Lake Odessa; 28 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brothers, Jim Weir of Grand Ledge, Elmer Weir of Grand Ledge, Eldon Weir of Lansing; and sisters, Tret Cornell of Owosso, Orcelia Matz of Lansing, and Martha Pease of St. Johns. She also has numerous nieces and nephews who will morn her.
Funeral services were held Oct. 18, 2007 at the Rosier Funeral Home, Mapes-Fisher Chapel, Sunfield, with Pastor Barbara Flory officiating.

Ethel Bessie Lung
Ethel Bessie Lung, age 91, of Eaton Rapids died Thursday, April 5, 2007 at the Eaton Community Hospice in Charlotte. She was born March 16, 1916 in Salem, Arkansas, the daughter of Henry and Clara (McGonigal) Stuart. Ethel married Alvin Lung on September 7, 1943 while Alvin was in the Military Service. Following the War he worked for Studebaker in Southbend and after their closing worked for General Motors and moved to Eaton Rapids. Ethel enjoyed gardening, was a good cook and loved making quilts. Preceding her in death were her husband, Alvin on July 16, 1998 and her daughter, Beverly Woods on March 2, 2004.
She is survived by her grandson, Scott (Rachelle) Owen of Eaton Rapids; 2 great grandsons, Jesse and Joshua Owen; son-in-law, Chuck Woods of Eaton Rapids, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held on April 9, 2007 at the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. John Metcalf of the First Congregational Church officiating. For those desiring memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Community Hospice at 2675 S. Cochran Charlotte, MI 48813. The family is being served through the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids.
Naomi Main
Naomi Main, 77, of Charlotte died, Monday, Dec. 17. Mrs. Main was born August 16, 1930 in Jackson, Miss., the daughter of William Samuel and Lottie Viola (Wilson) Bolen.
Mrs. Main’s career as a nurse’s aide at Immanuel’s Nursing Home and Eaton Manor in Charlotte fulfilled her passion for taking care of others. She was a happy-go-lucky person and enjoyed playing Yahtzee and Cribbage, gardening, quilting and singing. Mrs. Main loved to be on the go, going to garage sales, fishing and visiting her favorite restaurant, Ryans. One of her most enjoyable things were her grandchildren. The sound of her laugh will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Thomas A. III) Ogston of Lansing; granddaughter, Sami Jo Forbess; Vicky (Matt) Carpenter of Nashville; grandchildren, Ashley (Robert), James, Darnell, Jenna, Zane, Trishawn, Trent, Margaret’s children, Amanda and Dakota; great grandchildren, Alysun, Larissa, Dallas and Kevin, Jr. and many nieces and nephews that loved her; sisters, Katie Bertha Arnold and Lottie Mae Smith; brother, Samuel Bolen.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Willard Tyria, Jr.; second husband, Carl Main and daughter, Margaret Young. Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 22 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with Pastor Mark Woodbury officiating. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery, Kalamo Township.

William Malone
William Leroy "Chip" Malone, Jr., 23, of Bellevue, died Oct. 13, 2007. He was born June 13, 1984, the son of William L. and Maureen (DePue) Malone, Sr. in Marshall.
Chip worked for Love's Truck & Travel Stop in Marshall doing maintenance. Chip loved playing instruments in a band and rock'n'roll music. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, his grandparents and a sister-in-law.
He is survived by his wife, Chelsey M. (Hess) of Bellevue; daughter, Elizabeth Malone, stepdaughter, Ashleigh Simon and stepson, Cameron Simon, all at home in Bellevue; father, William Malone, Sr. of Bellevue; sister, Wendy Dalton of Texas; brothers, Michael Swarmes of Bellevue, Tim Swarmes of Battle Creek, Tom Swarmes of Kalamazoo, Todd Swarmes of Galien, Michigan, Leon L. Malone, Keith Malone, and Russell Malone, all of Newberry and Quinton Malone of Battle Creek; father and mother-in-law, Scott and Peggy Roop of Olivet; brothers-in-law, Chase Roop, Tom Smith and Logan Roop all of Olivet.
Services were held Oct. 18 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue with Pastor Don Francis officiating.

Betty Marquardt
Our precious mother and grandmother, Betty Jean Marquardt, went peacefully to be with her Lord on July 2, 2007 at the age of 81. She was born in Eaton Rapids in 1925 to Edward and Dorris Smart.
They owned and operated a dairy farm in Brookfield Township together throughout their married life. Her love for God and her family were the joys of Betty's life. She was a fabulous cook and enjoyed all who came to share her table. Mom gave unselfishly to anyone in need and will be sadly missed by her loving family and many cherished friends.
She was preceded in death in 1986 by Earl, her husband of 41 years. Three sisters also preceded her in death, Ellen Reasoner, Norma Satterlee and Evelyn Brazill.
Surviving are her daughters, Sharon (Ken) Hice and Diane Porter of Charlotte; Judy Sullivan of Olivet; one son, Terry (Deb) Marquardt of Charlotte; grandchildren, Chris (Shawnda) Hice, Jennifer (Matt) Hunter, Angela (Dan) Porter-Corralez, Trevor Marquardt and Jonathan Hodges all of Charlotte, Kirk (Darylyn) Hice of Macon, GA, Curtis Marquardt of Rapid City, SD and Derek Marquardt of Allendale; great-grandchildren, James and Collyn Hunter and Parker, Kennedy, and Sydney Hice. She is also survived by sisters, Vera Belen, Ruth Higbie, Helen Harris, and Leota Strobel and two brothers, David and Robert Smart.
Funeral services were held July 6, 2007 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Robin Crouch officiating. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids.

Michael Marshall
Michael J. Marshall, 35, of Woodland, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007. Mr. Marshall was born July 15, 1971 in Charlotte, the son of Keith and Carol (Billingsley) Marshall.
Mr. Marshall was a lifelong truck driver. He loved to take care of the seven acre farm and loved horses especially his pony "Patches." He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and was a real "do it yourselfer."
He was preceded in death by his step-sister, Linda Emery; father, Keith Billingsley and grandfather, Robert Cronk.
He is survived by his daughters, Ariel and Ashlee Marshall; parents, Richard and Carol Marshall; sister, Ruth (Adam) Jackson; girlfriend, Denise Decker; step-brother, Scott Marshall and grandmother, Vera Cronk.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 26 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Chris Cronk officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton County Hospice House.
