Kenneth McKellen
Mr. Kenneth L. McKellen, age 72, of Nashville (Formerly of Spring Lake, Langston, MI) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 18th, 2006 at his home in Nashville, MI. Mr. McKellen was born in Muskegon Sept. 26, 1933, the son of the late Myron and Beatritis (Sheehy) McKellen.
In 1953 he married Joyce (Bissell) McKellen in Greenville. The couple began their married lives together in Greenville, but moved to the Charlotte area where they raised their family. Kenneth was employed as a Lineman and Manager for Bell Telephone/At&T for over 32 years. After retiring in 1986, he and Joyce moved to Langston, where they purchased a home on Spring Lake, Kenneth's "heaven on earth." For the past 20 years Kenneth has spent his time pursuing his love of the lake and the outdoors. He loved to fish, ride the paddle boat and hunt in the area, It didn't matter whether summer or winter he loved being on the lake. He was also an avid woodworker. Most of all Kenneth loved his family. He cherished his beloved wife Joyce and took very seriously the responsibly of caring for his children and grandchildren. Joyce and Kenneth have been married for 53 years. He served in the U.S. Army as a PFC (T) during the Korean War as a Marksman and received the National Defense Service Medal. He was also a member of the Lakeview Fire Board, and Pine Township Board of Review.
He was preceded in death by his son, Rick John MeKellen, who Kenneth grieved daily; and his brothers, Ben and Don McKellen.
Kenneth is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce; his daughter, Leigh Ann Curtis; son-in-law, Wayne Talbert Curtis; his sister, Beverly Bateman; brothers, Jim and Rod McKellen; his grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Curtis, Sean Kenneth, Curtis, Jessica Sue Curtis, and several nieces and nephews.
Burial was held at Riverside Cemetery, in Lancaster at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 22. Memorial contributions can be made to the Barry Community Hospice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Daniels Funeral Home in Nashville.
Eva Ward McKim
Eva Ward McKim, 93, of Eaton Rapids, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2007 at her home. Eva was born May 9, 1913 in Lansing, the daughter of Ernest Herschel and Valerie Belle (Holley) Ward.
She was proud of belonging to a pioneer Lansing family, which settled in the area about 1842. She was a 1931 graduate of Lansing Central High School, and a 1936 graduate of Michigan State College. Eva was a lifelong Spartan supporter and was recently featured on a local radio program as "Grandma Greenblood." She loved swimming and was on swimming teams in junior high, high school and college. During her 20-year teaching career, which began in Portland and ended in Eaton Rapids, she taught homemaking to junior high, senior high, and adult night school students. She was a charter member of Eaton Rapids AAUW, life member of Eastern Star, active in Alpha Gamma Delta and past president of the Lansing Alumnae chapter. Eva was an officer in the Eaton Rapids Retired Teachers Association and Eaton County Retired School Personnel Association, served two terms on the Eaton Rapids Community Chest, three terms on Eaton Rapids Library Board, and was a volunteer in the Eaton Rapids Community Hospital gift shop.
She delivered Meals on Wheels, drove patients for kidney dialysis, was a Girl Scout organizer/leader in Sandusky, Mich. and Eaton Rapids, and was a member of Greenpeace, being especially concerned with the conservation of American wildlife and natural resources. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, woodworking, metal working, oil painting and target shooting. She was an accomplished photographer, winning several awards in international competitions. Eva had several collections of antiques, ranging from eye cups to corn and potato planters, and including a 1931 Model A Ford, which she helped restore, and a 1965 red Mustang convertible. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eaton Rapids. Eva enjoyed traveling and was a member of two travel clubs, visiting all 50 states and all Canadian provinces, usually with a motor-home. She also traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Northern Europe and England. For some years she raised and sold apricot poodles, but her companion to the end was a little poodle named Buffy that came to her as a stray.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl in 1976; second husband, Lewis Knaggs in 1996; brother, E. Clinton Ward in 1999; sister, Edna Ward in 1917; and great-grandson, Michael James Tinning in 1993.
Eva is survived by three daughters, Sara (Sam) Oakland of Portland, Ore., Martha (Bill) Marshall of Lansing and Valera (Jeff) Hartnell of Westerville, Ohio; step-children, Anne (Ron) Bancroft of Buckley, David (Connie) Knaggs of East Lansing, Robert (Mirlena) Knaggs of Clarkston; seven grandchildren, Andy Oakland, Sasha (Michael) Tinning, David (Sarah) Marshall, Colleen (Eric) Reeve, Ben (Molly) Hartnell, Nate (Katy) Hartnell, Sarah (Joey) Ortiz; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Amy Wilson and Valerie Winans, both of Lansing; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Ward of Lansing and Alice McKim of Ypsilanti; brother-in-law, George (Jean) McKim of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 7 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids and interment followed at Rosehill Cemetery. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Capital Area Humane Society in memory of Eva Ward McKim.
Nelson J. McLeod
McLeod, Nelson J., a real estate broker, passed away Dec. 19 at Ingham Regional Medical Center. He was born April 2, 1933.
Surviving are his wife, Marlene; son, Jeff McLeod of Douglas; daughters Jami McLeod of Lansing and Jennifer (Gregg) Clark of Marietta, Ga.; grandson, Zac; sisters, Joanne (Tom) Clark, Natalie (Jim) Milum and Cynthia Lewis; brother James (Mitzi) McLeod and several nieces and nephews.
No services will take place. A special thanks to all the doctors and nurses at Ingham Regional Medical Center, including the visiting nurses from Lansing Hospice.
The family suggests donations to the American Heart Association.
Vera Belle (DeWaters) McMann
Vera Belle (DeWaters) McMann of Eaton Rapids, age 82, died Tuesday, December 18, 2007 in Charlotte. Vera was born October 18, 1925 in Eaton Rapids Twp., the daughter of Melvin Curtis and Margarette Gertrude (Brininstool) DeWaters. She retired from Eaton Rapids School System in 1982 after 20 years as a cook. Vera touched many lives by opening her door to anyone at anytime. Preceded in death by her husband Alvin C.; 2 sons, Alvin Jr., and Rickie; 4 brothers, Melvin, Marion, Floyd and Les DeWaters.
Vera is survived by 2 daughter, Vicki (David) Mathews of Sparta, TN; Barbara Richardson of Eaton Rapids; son, Les (Beatrice) McMann of Eaton Rapids; 17 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren; brother, Homer (Phyllis) DeWaters of Potterville; sister, Louise (John) Cousino of Olivet; 2 sisters-in-law, Helen DeWaters of Eaton Rapids, Dorothy DeWaters of Lansing; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held December 21, 2007, at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids, with Rev. Jim Riley officiating. Those desiring may make contributions to Eaton Community Hospice in memory of Vera Belle McMann.
Bernestine A. McNamara
Bernestine A. McNamara, 87 of Charlotte, died June 28, 2007 at the Eaton Community Hospice House in Charlotte.
Mrs. McNamara was born Jan. 15, 1920 in Portland the daughter of Nelson and Johanna (Treweiller) Densmore.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas in 1996 and daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Thomas Griffin; son, Ronald McNamara; 5 grandchildren, and son-in-law, Craig Harton.
She is survived by children, Gary McNamara of Mt. Hood, Ore., Jeanine Harton Soma (Jim) of Dade City, Fla., Dennis (Julie) McNamara of Venice, Fla., Jeannette (Robert) Fullerton of Charlotte, Raymond (Sandra) McNamara of Potterville, Jennifer McNamara of Chatham, N.J., Timothy McNamara of Charlotte, and Patrick (Lisa) McNamara of Cincinnati, Ohio; 30 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass was held July 2 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlotte, with Rev. Fr. Denis R. Spitzley officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Lansing.
Donations may be made to the Eaton Community Hospice House of Charlotte or the Cerebral Palsy Association.

David E. Megyesy
David E. Megyesy, 64, of Charlotte died Wednesday, Dec. 12 at Eaton Community Hospice, Charlotte.
Mr. Megyesy was born March 15, 1945 in Massillon, Ohio, a son of Michael and Phyllis (Herman) Megyesy. He was a former employee of Fascor D.C. Motors in Eaton Rapids.
Mr. Megyesy was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Geraldine Neeley.
Surviving are his wife, Carol; sister, Sharyll Herrington of Lake Worth, Fla.; brother, Richard (Patricia) Schmidt of Vermilion, Ohio; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services were held Thursday at First United Methodist Church, Charlotte with Rev. Karen Wheat officiating. Arrangements were handled by Barker-Leik Funeral Home, Mulliken.
Reverend Paul N. Mergener
Paul N. Mergener, age 95 of Eaton Rapids died Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at the Eaton Community Hospice in Charlotte. Born March 26, 1912 in Grand Haven, MI the son of Joseph and Maude (Sherwood) Mergener. Paul served several churches in the surrounding area which includes: West Olive, Paris, Shepard, Bath, South Bath, Potterville, Robbins, West Benton, Grovenberg, Lee Center, Springport, Onondaga and Vermontville. Paul was the minister at the First Congregational Church in Eaton Rapids for many years and was currently the Pastor Emeritus. He was also a teacher and principle at Eaton Rapids. Paul was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in 1983 and daughter, Sally Hoag in 1979.
Surviving are his children: Richard (Della) Mergener, Judy (Dan) Parsons and Dan (Janet) Mergener all of Eaton Rapids; son-in-law, Vernon Hoag of Grayling; 12 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
Visitation for Paul was October 12th at the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with a private family funeral service Saturday. Robert Meyer
Robert Lee Meyer, Sr., 61, of Rapid City and formerly of Bellevue, died Nov. 14, 2007 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was born Nov. 27, 1945, the son of Chester and Pauline (Haan) Meyer in Muskegon.
He graduated from Pennfield High School in 1964. Bob owned and operated Brunner Optical of Battle Creek from 1982 to 1995. Most recently he worked as store manager for Kent Optical of Battle Creek and as an optician for Twin City Optical in Traverse City. Bob married Ellen Rogers on July 28, 1967. She survives.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; son, Nathan James Meyer; brother, John Meyer; nephew, Jordan Meyer and brother-in-law, Rex Rogers.
Bob will be dearly missed by his wife, Ellen Meyer of Rapid City; sons, Rob (Wendy) Meyer, Jr. and their children, Drew and Brady, all of Olivet, Lance (AaronSue) Meyer and their children, Marshall Nathan, Whitney Jordan and Carson Mitchell of Mancelona; daughter, Leanne (Brandon) Wilkins and their son, Isiah C. Penny of Traverse City; brothers, Jim (Donna) Meyer, Gary (Robin) Meyer; sister-in-law, Linda Meyer; nephews, Steve (Jennifer) Meyer, John (Rachel) Meyer and Jeff (Amy) Meyer. He is also survived by his in-laws, Rex and Myra Rogers, Candy Rogers, Laura and Dennis Lohr, Klayton Rogers, Tiffany and Dan Appleton and Aimee and Frank Kern and families.
Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a master hunter of the elusive morel mushroom and an eBay power seller.
A memorial service took place Nov. 17 at Bellevue Christian Center, Doug Hammond, officiating.

Douglas Michael
Douglas Michael, 59, of Olivet, died Sunday, March 11, 2007. Mr. Michael was born May 28, 1947 in Charlotte, the son of Julius and Agnes (Cooper) Michael.
Mr. Michael was a purchasing manager for Union City Industries. He enjoyed fishing, video games, lawn care, science fiction shows and guitar. Mr. Michael was most of proud of his family, children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Julius Michael in 2004 and mother, Agnes Cooper Michael Haywood in 2006.
Mr. Michael is survived by his wife, Helen; daughter Susan (Mike Patrick) Michael of Olivet and son Robert (Amy) Michael of Olivet; six grandchildren, Joey, Tory, Tammy, Chase, Maggie and Carley; brothers, Gary Michael, James (Jeanne) Michael, Gerald (Diane) Michael, Martin (Lynn) Haywood, Charles Haywood, Jr., Robert Haywood, Ronald Haywood and sister, Marilyn (Niles) Beardslee.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2007 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Woodbury officiating. Interment was in Bosworth Cemetery in Olivet. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
