Liam Myers

Liam Evan Myers, 6, of Charlotte, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2007. Liam was born Sept. 27, 2001, in Chicago, IL, the son of Christopher and Michelle (Paladino) Myers.

During his young life he loved to listen to music and children's voices. Liam also loved being held and being read to.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Elaine Myers.

He is survived by his parents, Christopher and Michelle; brother, Aiden Myers; grandparents, Lauraine and Larry Weicht and Phyllis and Larry Myers; uncles and aunts, Mark and Lisa Myers, Dave and Sue Paladino, David Weicht and Sherin Troub, Kimberly and Shawn Weicht, Mike Weicht and Steve and Patti Weicht; special friends, Anne Blackport, Sheila Hamblin and Kelli Louth. He will also be remembered by many, many other family members and countless friends.

Funeral services were held Dec. 31, 2007 at Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Melinda Halom officiating. Interment followed at Maple Hill Cemetery.

If desired memorial contributions may be made to Sparrow Hospice or Peace Lutheran Church.

Thelma Myers

Thelma L. (Brendahl) Myers, 78, of Olivet, formerly of Lansing, died Oct. 10, 2007 at Battle Creek Health Systems. Mrs. Myers was born July 7, 1929 in Lansing, the daughter of Carl and Elizabeth (Armstrong) Brendahl and had been an Olivet resident for 55 years.

She was a graduate of Lansing Sexton High School and before raising her family had been employed at Post Cereals in Battle Creek. She had been a Cub Scout Den Mother while her husband was Cubmaster. She enjoyed playing Bingo and an occasional trip to the Casino.

She was predeceased by 11 siblings.

Surviving are, her husband of 55 years, Robert D. Myers; three sons, Gordon (Tess) Myers of Glendale, AZ, Glen (Lynne) Myers of Olivet and Gary (Deborah) Myers of South Haven; eight grandchildren, Edward, Chadwick & Jordan Myers, Jason & Justin Myers, Phillip Hebenstreit, Kristy Huber and Kari Hebenstreit; nine great-grandchildren and one brother, Donald Brendahl of Owosso.

Funeral services were held Oct. 13, 2007 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Rev. Jack Brown officiating. Interment was in the Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.

Memorial contributions may go to the American Cancer Society or the charity of one's choice.

Jerry Dewitte Nagle

Jerry Dewitte Nagle, 64, of Sunfield, passed away Friday Nov. 23 at Hayes Green Beech Hospital in Charlotte. He was born Nov. 16, 1943 in Coldwater.

Jerry had a tremendous gift with wood working, and he loved to buy and sell antiques. He also was past owner/operator of J & M's party store, and was previously employed by Clark Equipment in Battle Creek as a Foreman.

Jerry was preceded in death by his mother and father, Leta and Dow Nagle.

He is survived by his three daughters Kim Baklund of Springdale, Ariz., Tracy Pittman of Lawrence, and Wendy (Jeff) Scott of Witter, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, Bobby Baklund, Krista Baklund, Bryan Nagle, Bo McLiechey, Amanda McLiechey, Christopher Scott and Ashley Scott; and two great-grandchildren, Caden Pettz and Abby McLiechey. Also surviving is his ex-wife, Mary Ann Nagle.

A two hour visitation was held on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at the Rosier Funeral Home, Mapes-Fisher Chapel, Sunfield. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made to the Sunfield Library, PO Box 36 Sunfield, Mich. 48890.

The family is being served by the Independent Family Owned Funeral Home in Sunfield: Rosier Funeral Home.

Eleanor Neil

Eleanor Lucille Neil, 88, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007 at the home of her daughter Margaret. Mrs. Neil was born March 19, 1919 in Detroit, the daughter of Louis W. and Mary R. (Ritter) Brown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Neil in 2004; sisters, Dorothy Ward and Marie Aninos, and brother, Edward Brown.

She is survived by her children, James (Dianne) Neil of Houston, Texas, Barbara (Leonard) Bochenek of Charlotte, Jack (Sandy) Neil of Charlevoix, Michigan, Patricia (Cal) Underwood of Sarasota, Florida, Frederick (Cathy) Neil of Brighton, Michigan and Margaret (Jim) Smith of Lansing; former daughter-in-law, Patricia Neil of Tecumseh; and brother, Robert (Elizabeth) Brown of Safford, Arizona.

A funeral mass was held Oct. 5, 2007 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlotte, with Rev. Fr. Denis R. Spitzley officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.

Leo Nichols

Leo C. Nichols, 75, of Charlotte, died March 31, 2007 following a lengthy illness. Mr. Nichols was born Nov. 3, 1931 in Blue Creek, W.V., the son of Irving and Katherine Nichols.

Leo worked for Durham Construction in Elkview, W.V. before working for Owens Illinois, transferred to the Charlotte area in 1967 and retired after 36 years. He loved his work as a sub-contractor, building several executive homes in the Charlotte area. Mr. Nichols served as a corporal in the Army during the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his son, David Leo Nichols and his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jackie; son, Thomas (Peggy) Cobb of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughter, Patti (Jeffrey) Ross of Charlotte; sisters, Ora (Woodrow) Workman of Ohio, Irene Cummings of Blue Creek, W.V., Rada Moore of St. Albons, W.V., Thelma Carte, of Pinch, W.V.; brother, Weldon (Mary) Nichols of Elkview, W.V.; grandchildren, Lisa (Chris) Ziehr, Tammi (Chris) Klaiber, Justin and Travis Ross; great-grandchildren, Bailey and Sidney; sisters-in-law, Lois (Gay) Barker and Janice (Bobby) Kinder of Charleston, W.V.

The family gives special thanks to Pastor and Mrs. Charles Bolinger and dear friends, Don Hummel and Charley Hadley.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. April 4 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Emeritus Charles Bolinger officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association.

Patricia Nichols

Patricia A. "Grandma Pat" Nichols, 82, of Olivet, formerly of Charlotte, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007. She was born April 26, 1925 in Detroit, the daughter of Robert and Henrietta (Goulette) Cale.

Mrs. Nichols was raised in Royal Oak where she met the love of her life, Roy and married him in 1944. After raising her family and retiring in 1986 she went to work at the Eaton Intermediate School District where she was very proud of being a Foster Grandparent.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; and daughter Maureen.

She is survived by her sons, Bruce Nichols of Charlotte, David (Carol) Nichols of Sparta, Scott Nichols of Charlotte and James (Cindy) Nichols of Charlotte; daughter, Laura (Bryan) Thompson of Olivet; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many extended family members and friends.

Funeral services were held Sept. 26, 2007 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Reverend Father Denis Spitzley officiating. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or a local Hospice.

Mary M. Nieburger

Mary M. (Nicol) Nieburger, 84 of Laughlin, Nev. died Monday, March 26, 2007 at her home. She was born in Charlotte March 8, 1923 to the late L. Ray and Cora Nicol.

The family moved to Holland, Mich. in December 1933. Mr. Nicol worked at Baker Furniture in Allegan and when it moved to Holland, so did the family. She attended Washington and Maplewood schools. She worked as a waitress at different restaurants in Holland. She also did baby sitting. While in Laughlin she attended the Baptist Church. She was the historian for many years for the Laughlin Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Cecil Van Dyke; her second husband, Edward Nieburger; her parents L. Ray and Cora Nicol; and her brothers and their wives, Lenard and Mary Nicol, Roger and M. Janet Nicol, Richard Nicol, Jesse Nicol and Roy and Gretchen Nicol.

Surviving are her son and his wife, Gordon Sr. and Janice Van Dyke of Laughlin, Nev.; two grandsons, Gordon Van Dyke Jr. of Missouri and Greg Van Dyke of Laughlin, Nev.; her sister and husband, June and Donald Hein of Holland; and many nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Holland. No services are planned at this time.

Arrangements are by the Notier-Ver Lee-Langeland Funeral Chapel, 315 East 16th St. Holland, Mich.

Alberta “Bertie” Jane Noecker

Alberta "Bertie" Jane Noecker, of Grand Ledge, passed away April 14 in Lansing at the age of 90. She was born in Greenville Sept. 2, 1916.

Alberta was a retired employee of General Motors, Oldsmobile Division Labor Local 652, with 30 years of service and a longtime area dairy farmer. She was an avid fisherwoman and enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, art show and theater.

She was predeceased by her husband, Murrel; sister, Jennie (Glen) Baxter; brother, George (Roberta) Smith and nephews, Larry Smith, Nathan Hause and Jerry Grove.

Surviving are her sister, Leona (Robert) Densmore of Charlotte; nieces and nephews, Natalie Hause and Carole Charles, both of Holt, Lynette (Larry) Warner of Eaton Rapids, Janice Baxter of Lansing, Janet Grove of Rose City, Daryl (Carol) Baxter of Wellston, Gary (Patty) Baxter of Texas, Sheila (Dell) Baker of Washington, Terry (Cindy) Smith of Eaton Rapids, Greg (Misty) Smith of Indiana, and several great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Services were held April 18 at the Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge, with Rev. Lyle Heaton of the Wacousta Community United Methodist Church officiating. Interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery, Grand Ledge.

Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or American Lung Association.
