Roberta Rivera

Roberta J. Rivera, 62, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, March 13, 2007. Mrs. Rivera was born June 5, 1944 in Eaton Rapids, the daughter of Robert and Majil (Gibbs) Hoag.

Mrs. Rivera was a member of the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading and was a Nascar fan. Mrs. Rivera was most proud of her children, grandchildren and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Victoriano Rivera; her parents; and her sister, Linda Hoag.

She is survived by her son, Vic Rivera; daughter, Majil Rivera; nine grandchildren, Jessica Cody, James, Tashakay, Vic, Zayne, Zaraya, Levi and baby girl; sisters, Mona Hoag, Ethel Hoag, Gloria (Harold) Diamond; and brother, Robert (Vicky) Hoag.

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m., Thursday, March 15 at Millerburg Cemetery with Pastor Robin Crouch officiating. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Edna Roberts

Edna Louisa Roberts, 92, of Charlotte, died, Friday, Feb. 23, 2007. Mrs. Roberts was born Oct. 26, 1914 in Lagrange, Ga., the daughter of Edward and Winnie (Stone) Cole.

She was an elementary school teacher and was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Charlotte. She enjoyed spending time in her flower garden, reading, crocheting and embroidery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence in 1987and son, Walter Moore in 1993.

She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Lincoln; step-son, Fred Roberts; grandchildren, Jim, Jodi and Sherry Lincoln; two great-grandsons, Nicolas and Jacob Lincoln.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Mark Woodbury officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with final expenses.

Beverly Robinson

Beverly Jean Robinson, of Potterville, a loving mother and grandmother, died Nov. 1, 2007 after a courageous battle with an illness. She was born June 25, 1940, the daughter of Frank Roose and Doris Adams, both of whom preceded her in death.

She worked as a housing director for the Potterville Housing Commission and served on the TIFA board until her illness. She was a former deputy clerk for the city of Potterville. Her pride and joy were her five children; 10 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading and drinking coffee and enjoying good conversation with her friends.

She was the widow of James D. Robinson. She also was preceded in death by her son, Rodney J. (Robinson) Harding and her brother, Robert Roose. The family would like to thank all her friends, a.k.a. The Coffee Club, for all their support, care and friendship.

Surviving are her son, Rich (Nancy) Roose of Charlotte; daughters, Lisa (Ray) Roose-Church of Clio; Kimberly Robinson of Potterville and Cathy Robinson of Marion; grandchildren, Skylar “Toadie” Robinson, Megan Roose, Ashley Ehl, Kaylee Roose, Richard R. J. Ehl, Allison Beebe, Joseph Beebe, Zak Roose, Jourden Roose and Rodney J. Harding II; sister, Fay Lantrip; four great grandchildren; a nephew and a niece.

Honorary pallbearers are son-in-law, Ray Church, step-grandson, Jeff Church and friends, Ron Bristol, Tom Sweet, Dave Orrison, Leo Zottnech, Chad Ackley and Scott Ackley.

Funeral services were held Nov. 6, 2007 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, 206 W. Lawrence Ave., Charlotte, with Rev. Paul Bailey of Portland officiating. She was buried next to her son at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Cecil Robinson

Cecil C. Robinson, Jr., 75, of Bellevue, passed away July 19, 2007 at Battle Creek Health System. He was born March 7, 1932, the son of Cecil C. and Audrey (Krug) Robinson in Battle Creek.

Cecil worked at the Oliver Company, Eaton Manufacturing George R. Rich Company and retired from Kellogg's after 29 years of service. Cecil married Laura Ormsbee on Nov. 11, 1950. She passed away in 1996. In 2003 he married Barbara Bedford and she survives. Cecil enjoyed playing euchre, hunting, fishing and gardening. Over the years he was known around Bellevue for his melons and sweet corn.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and stepmother.

Also surviving are a daughter, Catherine J. (Gary) O'Dell of Bellevue; son, Michael Robinson of California; stepchildren, Teresa (Matt) Wood of Hastings, Carl (Jane) Peck of Middleville, Douglas (Kim) Peck and Eugene (Linda) Bedford of Hastings; three grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Ellen Dalman of Hastings; sisters-in-law, Jackie Rayner and Mary (Wayne) Roush of Hastings; step sisters, Lucy (Ron) Brown of Greenville, Mary (Roger) Thomas of Saranac, Donna Barrett of Ionia and stepbrother, Don McCusker of Arizona.

Respecting his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held July 24 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel with Pastor Mark Thompson officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospitals.

Freeman Robinson

Freeman “Robbie” Robinson, 85, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007 at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility, Charlotte after an ext4ended illness. “Robbie” was born April 7, 1922 in Detroit, the son of Henry and Grace (Norton) Robinson and had resided in Charlotte for about 60 years.

He served in the U.S. Army during WW#II. He was a retired Truck Driver for Howard Sober Trucking with 35 years of service and was a member of the Teamsters Union.

Surviving are his wife, Luella (Root) Robinson; three children, Debra Turner of Eaton Rapids, Ginny Stuart of Florida and Timothy Robinson of Lansing; four granddaughters, Jenny Goodrich, Michele Turner, Jamie Stuart and Paige M. Turner and one great granddaughter, Emma Denman.

At “Robbie’s” request, cremation has taken place.

No services will be held.

Memorial contributions may go to the Hayes-Green Beach Hospital in Charlotte.

Lois Robinson

Lois Isabell Robinson, 90, of West Branch, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2007 at West Branch Regional Medical Center.

Lois was born April 29, 1917 in West Branch to Alfred and Mary Elizabeth Suzanna (Thomas) Dunbar. She married Henry Anthony Robinson on February 13, 1938 in Garden City, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her husband Henry; a still-born baby boy, her son Gary; her brothers, Amil, Bonnie, Harvey, Harold and John Dunbar.

She is survived by her sister, Wanda (Robert) Reilly; daughter-in-law Nina Robinson of Charlotte; four granddaughters, Samantha (Chris) Durrett, Christina (Rod) McKinnis, Hope (Paul) Berg and Elizabeth Robinson; eight great grandchildren and her nieces, Sue Antcliff of Lupton and Mary (Larry) Kartes of Alger and her nephews, William (Kelly) Reilly of Standish.

Lois had been a member of the Garden Club in West Branch for many years prior to her moving to the Upper Peninsula and a life member of Maple City Post Ladies Auxiliary #2406 VFW in Charlotte, Mich.

A Memorial Service was held Thursday, May 24th at 11 a.m. at the Community of Christ Church, 443 E. Houghton Ave in West Branch. Interment was at Brookside Cemetery, West Branch.

Alberta Rockafellar

Alberta Rockafellar, of Vermontville, 90, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007. Alberta was born Nov. 6, 1916 in Grand Ledge, the daughter of Charles and Ruby (Root) Green.

She graduated from Lansing Central High School in 1934. In 1937, she married Curtis W. Rockafellar and moved to Vermontville where they farmed their Centennial Farm in Chester Township until his death in 1984. Alberta was a member of the First Congregational Church of Vermontville and was a longtime member of the O.E.S.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Mason, Alford and Ruthford Green; and sister, Mildred Rider.

Surviving are, two daughters, Janet Rockafellar of Louisville, KY and Judith Moore of Cleveland, MS; grandchildren, Curtis Tuckey, Christopher Tuckey, David Tuckey, Alexandra Rockafellar, Maggie Moore and Alexander Moore; and great-grandchildren, Britiany Tuckey, Madeleine Palmaccio and Michael Palmaccio.

Funeral services were held Sept. 4, 2007 at the First Congregational Church of Vermontville, with Rev. Israel Young officiating. Interment was in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Vermontville.

Cheryl Renee Rockafellow

Cheryl Renee Rockafellow, age 38 passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at her home in Harrison, MI. She was born June 16, 1969, and graduated from Eaton Rapids High School in 1987.

She is survived by her son, Keith Michael; daughter, Kali both of Georgia; mother, Anita (Bob) Warner of Eaton Rapids; father, Keith (Carol) Rockafellow of Georgia; brother, Keith D. Rockafellow II of Texas; grandparents, Max and Viola LeFevre of Eaton Rapids, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Cheryl is dearly missed.

Paulette “Polly” (O’Byrne) Rodgers

Paulette “Polly” (O’Byrne) Rodgers of Eaton Rapids, age 64, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2007 in Eaton Rapids. Polly was born July 10, 1943 in Lansing, MI, the daughter of Harold Hiram and Pauline (Valleau) Hall.

She was the adored wife of Robert, her husband of 18 years; the dearly loved mother of 3 daughters, Gaila Snyder of TX, Kelly O’Byrne of FL, and Jennifer Johnson of MI; special “Mimi” to 10 grandchildren & 3 great grandchildren; is known as a gracious and generous sister to Betty Hill and brother, Delbert (Mercy) Hall of MI; many beloved nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Hall. Polly retired from General Motors in 2003 after 28 years of service.

Memorial services will be held 6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 2, 2007 at her home, 200 Lansing St. Eaton Rapids.
