Donald Rogers
Donald Vance Rogers, 64, of Powell, Wyoming, passed away Aug. 21, 2007 at home. He was born Feb. 24, 1943 in Eaton County, the son of Russell and Beatrice Rogers.
Donald was raised in Eaton County and attended Charlotte High School, graduating in 1961. Don lived in Wyoming for more than 30 years. He worked as a builder and in oilfields in Wyoming. He was married to Karen Bosworth on Dec. 15, 1961 in Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Bonnie, in 1956; his father, Russell, in 1979; and mother, Beatrice, in 2005.
Mr. Rogers is survived by daughters, Ginger Royston of Charlotte and Shawn Raleigh of Oregon; sons, Don Rogers of Colorado and Dan Rogers of Nebraska; grandaughters, Megan Large, Nicole and Whitney Royston; grandson, Chantz Large of Charlotte; great-grandaughter, Jaelan Wertz of Charlotte; sisters, Dixie Arndt and Darlene Riddle of Charlotte; nephews, Brian and Chad Arndt; and nieces, Kara and Kaci Riddle.
Private services were held Aug. 24, 2007 at Thompson Funeral Home in Powell, Wyoming.
Samuel Rugg
Samuel L. Rugg, 78, of Battle Creek, died July 24, 2007 at Battle Creek Health System. He was born Oct. 16, 1928, the son of Ora and Katherine (Tesch) Rugg in Climax.
Samuel worked at Michigan Carton Company. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Model-A Club. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing bowling, and old cars. He loved entertaining his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty in 1999; grandson, Christopher Rugg; daughter-in-law, Janese Rugg; eight brothers and three sisters.
Samuel is survived by his sons, Stanley (Beverly) Rugg of Bellevue, Stuart Rugg of Battle Creek; daughter Linda (Dennis) DeMott of Bellevue; nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; brothers, Dave Rugg, Bob Rugg and Max Rugg; sisters, Evelyn Wilbur, Henrietta Hamacher and Clara Rathburn.
Services took place July 28, 2007 at Calvary Baptist Church, Pastor Brian Spencer, officiating. Interment, Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens.

David K. Russell
David K. Russell, age 61 of Lake Odessa passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2007 unexpectedly while enjoying a trip at his cottage with his wife in Stonington, MI.
David is survived by his loving wife, best friend and companion Kim Russell, along with his seven children; Dawn Russell-Osterhout of Hastings, Keith (Marcie) Russell of Lake Odessa (both active in the Army National Guard), Stephanie (Walter) Church of Hastings, Stacey (Steve) Skinner of Plainwell, Autumn Russell of Lake Odessa, PFC David A. Russell active Marine stationed in Iraq, Danielle Russell of Lake Odessa, and ten grandchildren. David is also survived by his brother William (Cindy) Russell of Eaton Rapids, sister, Laurie (Erv) Lubitz of Sunfield, the son of the late William and Betty Russell of Eaton Rapids, and son-in-law of Guy and Sharon Gunder of Eaton Rapids. David enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and most of all spending time with his family and friends. David never allowed the 11 year battle with cancer interfere with living life to the fullest. He will be deeply missed. The family will receive friends and relatives on June 9th, 2007 from 3 to 6 at 14126 Becker Rd. Lake Odessa, MI (Tupper Lake Resort).
Robert V. Russell
Robert V. Russell, age 58, passed away March 12, 2007. Bob was born in Carlisle, PA, and lived in Sahuarita for the past 12 years. He served in Vietnam in the U.S. Air Force and was a former member of the American Legion. For the last nine years, Bob was employed by La Posada in the maintenance department. He enjoyed his family, the outdoors, nature, off-road adventures, hiking, his dogs, his roses, the Arizona Wildcats and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Betty Russell.
He is survived by his loving wife Judy Squires Russell; daughter Tammi (Loren) Wessel; son David (Angela) Russell; nine grandchildren; brother Mike (Barb) Russell; sister-and brother-in-law Kathy Squires and Steve (Nadine) Squires; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
A celebration of both Bob’s life and his mother-in-law’s, Doris (Squires) Kimmel, was held on Friday, March 23, 2007 at the American Legion Post 66 in Sahuarita. Remembrances can be made to the Animal League of Green Valley or the charity of your choice.
Charles Joseph Rybnikar
Charles Joseph Rybnikar died May 12 in a house fire at his southwest Lansing home.
Charles was born in Eaton County Aug. 3, 1922 to Joseph and Mary (Hornak) Rybnikar. He was the fourth child of five children and the only son. He served in the U.S. Army during W.W.II in the South Pacific. He worked for the State of Michigan as a printer for 44 years, retiring in 1988. He was active in Faith United Methodist Church for many years. He was an avid traveler, visiting the Holy Land, Europe, Haiti and the Philippines. He was a member of Czechoslovakia Society of America for most of his adult life. Charles volunteered for years at Impression 5 Museum. In his last years, he was involved in Habitat for Humanity, recycling efforts and neighborhood clean-up, regularly walking with his dog and collecting litter.
Charles married Margaret Hetzer in 1949, and they had two daughters. He married June (Woodhams) Boughton in 1961. She died with him.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mary; sisters, Helen Bos of Lansing, and Frances Hubbard of Rome, Geo.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda Myers of Lebanon, Mo., and Kathy Schlee of Charlotte; three grandchildren; sisters, Rose Polys of Detroit, and Leone Kalash of Torrence, Calif., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rilla Sabin
Rilla Spray Sabin, 91, of Marshall and formerly of Bellevue, went to be with the Lord on June 18, 2007 at the Marshall Nursing & Rehabilitation Community.
She was born July 6, 1915, the daughter of James H. and Mable M. (Niles) Morrison in Kalkaska. She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1932.
Rilla worked at Pennfield Public Schools as a food service employee for more than 24 years, retiring in 1976. She lived on the family farm in Bellevue for more than 50 years.
Rilla was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth N. Sabin in 1956; daughters, Lila Yother and Nancy Lee Sabin; brothers, R.C. Morrison, A.Z. Morrison and L.T. Morrison; and two sisters before Rilla was born.
She is survived by her daughter, Pat (Carl) Field of Marshall and their children, Timothy Ken and Nancy Field and Schara (Field-Young) and George Swan, Jr. and seven other grandchildren; loving great grandkids, Steven Botimer, Hailey Spray and Landon Young and several other great grandchildren.
Rilla was a member of Baseline United Methodist Church and its Mary Ellen circle and the Bellevue-Olivet Order of the Eastern Star.
Friends are welcome to visit from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, June 25 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue. Services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 26 at United Methodist Church, Pastor Virginia Heller, officiating. Interment will be at Hicks Cemetery.
Memorials may go to Baseline United Methodist Church. The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
James Samann
James J. Samann, 75, of Vermontville, died Oct. 12.
Jim retired from Waverly Schools, was a volunteer on the Charlotte, Delta and Vermontville Fire Departments for over 50 years, on the Vermontville Village Council for over 20 years and very active in his community.
He is survived by his wife, Ann (Ommen) Samann, two children, Terry (Teresa) Samann and Carleen Samann and three grandchildren, Ashley, James and Alex.
Funeral services were held at the Vermontville Congregational Church on Oct. 15 with Pastor Israel Young officiating. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery located in Vermontville.
In lieu of flowers, the family has set up the "James Samann Memorial Fund." This fund is allocated to the Vermontville Fire Department Association for new equipment; contributions may be made at any Independent Bank. Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
June Louise Sands
June Louise Sands, age 77 of Eaton Rapids died Saturday, December 29, 2007 at a Lansing Hospital. Born October 13, 1930 in Williamston, the daughter of Varney and Lucille (Denby) Clutter. June had worked at Heifitz Pickle Co, Horner Woolen Mills and is best known as a Waitress for several restaurant and bars in the Eaton Rapids, Onondaga and Leslie areas. She formerly bowled on the Monday Nite Ladies League and was passionate for animals especially her cats. Preceding her in death were her husband, Clarence; son, Steven Norris and parents, Varney and Lucille Clutter.
She is survived by 3 children, Stanley (Deborah) Norris of Charlotte, Sandy (Joe) Ruiz of Lansing and Sue (Jim) Richardson of Mason; 13 grandchildren and 212 great grandchildren; sister, Helen Keyes of Charlotte and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held January 3, 2008 from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. For those desiring memorial contributions may be to the Eaton Community Hospice in memory of June L. Sands.
Carla Santana
Carla June Santana, of Lake Odessa, passed away Monday June 25, 2007 at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan in Lansing at the age of 40. She was born Feb. 26, 1967 in Ionia, the daughter of Carl and Patricia (Miller) Bailey.
Carla spent most of her life in Michigan and Florida. She attended Kingdom Hall in Ionia. She loved to laugh, and enjoyed spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by both her parents; and a brother, James Bailey.
Surviving are her children, Carlos Santana of East Lansing, Jessica Santana of Lake Odessa, and Tony Santana of Deckerville, MI; two sisters and one brother, Lillian (Thomas Jr.) Sutliff of Lake Odessa, brother, Vernard Bailey of Alto, and Barbie (George) Sutliff of Ionia; also surviving are the father of her children, Adalberto Santana of Wayland, MI; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. July 3, 2007 at the Sunfield Cemetery.
