Betty Lou Seume
Betty Lou Seume, 79, of Bellevue died Friday, Jan. 5, 2007 at Tendercare in Hastings. She was born Oct. 20, 1927 the daughter of Oscar I. and Cora Leona (Terwilliger) Pierce in Bellevue Township.
Betty graduated from Charlotte High School. She worked at Owens-Illinois in Charlotte for 10 years. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and quilting. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde J. Seume Feb. 7, 1991.
She is survived by her daughter, Audrey E. Southwell of Wyoming; sons, Clyde "Jack" (Linda) Seume Jr. of Bellevue and Steven Seume of Kaycee, Wyoming; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Bob (Beverly) Pierce of Battle Creek, Mark (Betty) Pierce of Nashville, Roy (Ruth) Pierce of Mendon and Dwight (Darlene) Pierce of Charlotte.
Services were held Jan. 9 at Shaw Funeral Home. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue. Memorials may be made to Tendercare, Hastings.
The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
Thomas Shafe
Thomas F. Shafe, 68, of Olivet, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007 at his residence after an extended illness. Tom was born March 27, 1939 in Charlotte, the son of Fred L. and Ruth M. (Harris) Shafe and was a life-long Olivet area resident.
He was a self employed carpenter by trade. Tom was a master craftsman and well known for his trim work. He was sought out by many for creating beautiful fireplaces of fieldstone, limestone, brick or whatever else they chose. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and took several trips out west which he enjoyed very much. He also enjoyed spending time up north at "the cabin" with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Starr and half sister, Gayle Gordon.
Surviving are, his wife of almost 50 years, Margaret (Day) Shafe; three daughters, Cheryl (Kelly) Coplin of Shelbyville, Lori (Chris) Koyl of Olivet and Michelle (Justin) Bowerman of Charlotte and 10 grandchildren, Shawn Coplin, Jeremie Coplin, Alex Coplin, Cassandra Coplin, Kristin Starr, Cameron Starr, Jamie Koyl, Tayler Koyl, Brandon Bowerman and Kayla Bowerman.
Funeral services were held Oct. 27, 2007 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Pastor Doug Hammond officiating. Interment was in the Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.
Memorial contributions may go to the Eaton Community Hospice, Charlotte, MI.
Carl E. Shafer
Carl E. Shafer of Charlotte, formerly of Delta Township, passed away April 22, 2007. Carl was born May 8, 1951 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Carl and Shirley (Holden) Shafer. He retired from Leaseway Auto Transport as an operations manager.
Carl loved to play golf and always looked forward to the annual golf trip he took with friends to Florida. He loved his family and had a great sense of humor. Dear husband of Sharon, father of Anne and Kelli Shafer and brother of Kali Valentine and uncle of Evan Aris.
The family will receive friends at the Holihan-Atkin Funeral Home Grand Ledge Thursday, May 17 from 6 p.m. to 8 pm and Friday 2 p.m. until time of Memorial Service 3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America, P.O. Box 96010 Washington D.C. 20077 .
Austin A. Sharrow
Austin A. Sharrow, 3 months, of Charlotte, died, Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007. Austin was born Oct. 19, 2006 in Lansing, the son of Chad Sharrow and Kila Salazar.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Ernest Shaw.
He is survived by his parents; his grandparents, Mark Salazar, John and Korie Spitzley and Gary and Lorie Sharrow; aunt, Keisha Salazar; uncle, Matt Sharrow; uncle, Ted Spitzley; and many loving family members.
Funeral services were held Jan. 12 at Pray Funeral Home with Rev. Father Denis R. Spitzley officiating.

Kevin Lee Shaull
Kevin Lee Shaull of Eaton Rapids, age 16, passed away Monday, January 29, 2007 in Eaton Rapids. Kevin was born October 21, 1990 in Gaylord, MI. He was a student at Eaton Rapids Public Schools, was fun loving, played hard and loved to make people smile. Preceded in death by his grandfather, Frank Towers and great grandfather, George Wyrick.
Kevin is survived by his mother, Ruth Towers; brother, Travis Michael Shaull; and sister, Gigi Shaull, all of Eaton Rapids; grandparents, Jacque & Randy Towers of Olivet; great grandmothers, Ruth Towers of TN, and Alma Jean Wyrick of Haslett; uncle, Benjamin Towers & family of Charlotte; Percy kitty & Allie puppy.
Memorial services were held Friday, February 2, 2007 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to R Place Teen Club, Eaton Rapids, in memory of Kevin Shaull.
Lloyd W. Shaver
Lloyd W. Shaver, 84, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007. Mr. Shaver was born Aug. 13, 1922 in Onondaga, the son of Willard and Minnie (Ranney) Shaver.
Mr. Shaver served in the Army in World War II, was a salesperson for Moormans Feeds, a truck driver for Minor Walton Bean and after retirement worked at Yates Hardware. He loved to farm while whistling away on his tractor, was a Detroit Tigers fan and enjoyed country western music. Mr. Shaver's favorite games included euchre, golf, Tonk 31 and bingo (this one he preferred to win at). Mostly, he loved raising his five girls and enjoyed being with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Dolores "Dee" Shaver; daughters, Kathleen (David) Gusey of Vermontville, Sharon (Duane) Locke of Bellevue, Vicki (Charles) Stiver of Charlotte, Janet Rhoden of Lindale, Ga. and Laurel (Donald) Wallace of Prudenville; step-son, Michael Gosenca of Albion and step-daughter, Cynthia Hosack of Eaton Rapids; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; brother, Verlin (Virginia) Shaver of Charlotte; sisters, Mildred Griest of Charlotte, and Doris Kelley of Charlotte.
Funeral services were held Jan. 15 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Marc Livingston officiating. Interment was at Gresham Cemetery, Charlotte. Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Virginia Shaw
Virginia A. Shaw, 78, of Lake Worth, Fla. died unexpectedly at her home on Sunday, March 11, 2007. Ms. Shaw was born Aug. 14, 1928 in Charlotte, the daughter of Raymond C. and Alta (Baker) Shaw.
She was a 50-year resident of Palm Beach County, Fla.
She is survived by life-long friends, Annie Phillips of Lake Worth, Fla., Louise Lutes and family of Greenacres, Fla.; several cousins and many loving friends.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 16 at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte, with Rev. Phillip Hobson of First Congregational Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may go to the First Congregational Church of Charlotte.
Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Melvin Shelver
Melvin P. Shelver, 93, of Charlotte, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007 at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility in Charlotte after a long illness. Melvin was born May 25, 1914 in Ransom County, North Dakota, the son of Peter and Martha (Gullickson) Shelver and had been a Charlotte resident since 1986 coming from Chicago, IL upon his retirement.
He was a 1941 graduate of Moody Bible Institute in Chicago and had attended Minneapolis Business College. He had served as a Missionary for the Rural Bible Mission in Michigan and later the Chicago Hebrew Mission in Chicago, IL from where he retired on Sept. 1, 1986. He was a member of the Ainger Bible Church, Olivet.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Burleson) Shelver on Aug. 11, 2006.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews including three nephews locally, Barry (Mary) Hart (primary care givers) of Charlotte, Bruce (Marilyn) Hart of Charlotte and Benny Hart of Olivet and a sister-in-law, Betty Nelson of Climax, MI.
There will be no visitation. Graveside services and interment were held Nov. 19, 2007 at the Riverside Cemetery in Bellevue with Pastor Timothy Olson of First Lutheran Church officiating.
Memorials may go to the First Lutheran Church, Charlotte.

Richard Shinsky
Richard L. Shinsky, 82, of Holland died Saturday, March 24, 2007 at his home.
Richard was an active member of the Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church and past Associate Director of Holland Widowed Persons Services. He was also member of the F.O.P., American Legion and VFW Post 2144. He was a member and volunteer ambassador for Evergreen Commons. He was a veteran of World War II serving as a Navy Seabee.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty (2001) and sons, Rick (1983) and Timothy (2006).
He is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Gary and Karen Shinsky of Florida, Cathy and Kevin Quigley of Holland, Robert Shinsky of Holland; daughter-in-law, Lynda Shinsky of Holland; stepchildren, Lori and Joe Baker of Holland, Lisa Doezema of Holland, Amy and Rod Obbink of Holland; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother and sister, Curtis and Pat Shinsky of Tennesee; Gail and Richard Angelo of Westland; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Mrs. William (Joanne) Shinsky of Rochester; Gail and Ralph Ellison of Elmira; Bonnie and Jim Carrothers of Owosso; and many nephews nieces and cousins.
Funeral services were held March 29 at Lakeshore Memorial Services 11939 James St in Holland. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Holland or Widowed Persons Services of Holland.
