Doris Sternaman
Doris I. Sternaman, 82, of Charlotte, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2007. Mrs. Sternaman was born Feb. 9, 1925 in Eaton Rapids, the daughter of Howard and Hazel (Raines) Miller.
Mrs. Sternaman was head cook for Hayes Green beach Hospital for 15 years and received the Employee of the Year in 1985.
She was preceded in death by her first husband George Swift; second husband, Rawley Sternaman; son, Dennis Swift in 1984 and daughter, Lois Swift in 1978.
She is survived by her grandson, Kenneth (Martha) Blanchard of Charlotte; two great grandchildren, Kenneth Jr. and Matthew Blanchard; 11 nieces; three nephews and special friend, Charles Jenson.
Funeral services were held Oct. 22, 2007 at Pray Funeral Home with Charles Jenson officiating. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Vermontville.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Hayes Green Beach Hospital.

Dorothy Steward
Dorothy May (Coppess) Steward, of Lake Odessa, left her earthly home carried by angels into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sept. 14, 2007. She was born on May 8, 1916 and lived in the Sunfield/Lake Odessa area all of her 91 years.
She was a member of the Sunfield United Brethren Church and served in many capacities: Sunday School teacher, Women's Missionary Fellowship member, choir member. She had become a follower of Jesus at an early age and believed that God is with us whatever we face in life.
During her life Dorothy was an energetic, fun loving people person who had many friends and acquaintances. She also had a myriad of interests that kept her busy and on the go. Camping, quilting, crocheting, crafts, family and community history, writing stories and poetry, antiques, animals and nature and games. Dorothy loved to cook, she worked in several area restaurants, and she was well known for her delicious baked goods. She also worked for Lakewood Public Schools Hot Lunch program for several years. Dorothy was an avid bowler and also loved to watch her children and grandchildren participate in sports activities.
Dorothy's parents preceded her in death: George Ashton Coppess and Mae Emily (Gallup) Coppess. Her husband of 59 years, O. Dale Steward, passed away on April 7, 1994. Two of their five children have also passed away, Wendal B. Steward on Dec. 8, 2000 and Jeffery D. Steward on June 25, 2002. Two grandsons have also passed away; Lucas T. Steward on Sept. 19, 1998, and Kirk Lee Steward and Aug. 25, 2007. Dorothy was the last living of her six siblings, Lucy L. Coppess, John E. Coppess, Adelaide K. (Coppess) Dalton, George M. Coppess, Charles S. Coppess, and Ruth E. Coppess.
She leaves behind many friends and relatives who will miss her greatly. Her son, Larry (Marilee) Steward of Sunfield, son, Bill L. Steward and Faye Foltz of Mulliken; daughter, Nancy Jo (Warren) Terry of Lawton, MI; daughter-in-law, Shelley (Jeff) Steward of Woodland; and a special sister-in-law, Laura Steward of Lake Odessa. Her loving and beloved grandchildren, Kevin (Tricia) Steward, Karin (Ronnie) Raymond, John D. Steward, Rebecca (Darin) White, David (Mary) Terry, Meredith (Dan) Hutton, Matthew (Jennifer) Steward, and Gabriel (Melissa) Steward. 17 great-grandchildren, Jolena, Dylan, Ashleigh, Diedra, Angelica, David, Toni, Andrew, Ryan, Logan, Eric, Sophia, Georgia, Kennedy, Taylor, and Whitney; and three great-great-grandchildren, Kendyl Renee, Cameron Brockman and Lola Marie.
Funeral services were held Sept. 18, 2007 at the Sunfield United Brethren Church.

Anne Stiver
Anne Stiver, 85, of Charlotte died Sunday, Sept. 30. Mrs. Stiver was born in West Windsor Township on February 28, 1922, the daughter of Peter and Mary Black.
Anne worked for Fisher Body in Lansing in WW II fabricating flight control surfaces for heavy bombers. She was the first President of UAW Local 1995 at A.E. Hoover in Charlotte, and received the YWCA Diana Award for outstanding community service and professional achievement in Labor as a result of her work in the union. At home her passions were working on the extensive landscape at her farm and bargain hunting. She was a dedicated student of the world, courageous in her beliefs and always ahead of her time. Anne was a certified Mari-El Healer, a polarity healing technique which she generously shared with her church, family and friends. She loved spending time with her family around her, always accepting and understanding and optimistic of better tomorrows.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Stiver in 1984 and her sisters, Olga and Marie.
She is survived by five loving children; Donald (Phyllis) Stiver, Jr. of Merritt Island, Fla., Dave (Diane) Stiver of Charlotte, Deborah (John) Angell of Okemos, Drucilla (Dale Sonke) Stiver of Rockford and Tina A. Stiver of Lansing, four grandchildren; Carri Banks, Sarah Stiver, Nolan Cooper, Livia Cooper, two great grandchildren; Katie Banks and Matt Banks; her sister, Josephine (Sam) Willoughby, many nieces and nephews and special caretaker, Paul Anderson.
Funeral services were Oct. 6 at Pray Funeral Home with Michael Cooper and family officiating. Interment was in Gresham Cemetery. Special thanks to Lacks Cancer Center and the ICU Staff at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids, and her neighbors Diane and Joe Newman.

Gordon Story
Gordon L. Story, 77, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007. Mr. Story was born July 13, 1930, the son of Lyle and Wilma (Knickerbocker) Story.
Mr. Story was a sports writer for the Republican Tribune and Charlotte Shopping Guide. His unique wit was appreciated by local fans. He enjoyed sports, fishing, water skiing and the cottages on Trails End at Gun Lake. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchild cherished many wonderful memories, they were the light and joy of his life. He was so proud of his family and was involved in all their sports and activities.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores "Pooie" in 1996.
He is survived by his son, Robert (Debra) Story of Belding; daughter, Laurel (Barry) Sherman of Charlotte; daughter, Julie (James) Jones of Blacksburg, VA; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild and sister, Joann (Ray) Miller of Hastings.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, 2007 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with Pastor John Bailey officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Hastings.

Juanita M. Stratton
Juanita M. (Adams-Wilson) Stratton, age 98, formerly of Wyoming, was called to her heavenly home on Saturday, August 25, 2007. She was preceded in de3ath by her husbands, Walter Wilson of 32 years, and Ray Stratton of 22 years; her children, Jean Marie, Carolyn June, Herbert Edward; two sisters and one brother. Juanita was a longtime member of the Rebecca’s.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Juanita (Roger) Mansfield of Grand Rapids; her grandchildren, Mike Mansfield, Susan & Scott Deprez, Dennis & Tammy Mansfield, Roger Jr. & LuAnne Mansfield, Richard & Michele Mansfield; her great grandchildren, James, Michael and Christine Deprez, Amber and Megan Mansfield, Kathryn and Jordan Mansfield, Joshua Mansfield, Michael and Jake Mansfield; her great-great granddaughter, Alora Follet; her sister, Arabelle Minor of Detroit.
At Juanita’s request, cremation has taken place. The family will be having private services at Oakwood Cemetery in Eaton Rapids, Michigan.
Mary G. Stratz
Mary G. Stratz, 73, died May 15.
Mary was born in Big Rapids, Dec. 17, 1933 a daughter of George and Alice (Amidon) Stratz. A long-time Windsor Township resident, she was the retired owner of Mary's Truck Stop and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Charlotte.
Mary was preceded in death by five brothers.
Surviving are sisters, Catherine Pion of Dimondale, Rose Kogler of Byron Center, brothers, Francis Stratz of Westland, Bernard (Pat) Stratz of Walled Lake, Fredrick Stratz of Dallas, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial was May 19 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Charlotte, with the Rev. Fr. Denis R. Spitzley presiding. Interment followed at Dimondale Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Field & Leik Funeral Home, Dimondale.

Rose Gay Steward
Rose Gay Steward, 88, of Vermontville passed away Sunday, Feb. 4,2007 at Moore’s Adult Foster Care Home near Charlotte. She was born Jan. 14, 1919 in Sunfield, daughter of Dr. Malcolm G. and Ava (Gardner) Slater.
Rose was a lifelong resident of the area and active in many local organizations. She was a member of the Sunfield United Methodist Church, and after marrying Loyd Steward on Jan. 15, 1958, a member of the Bismark United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday school and Bible school in both congregations. She helped organize the Sunfield library, where she was head librarian for over 10 years. She was also a very active member of the Sunfield Historical Society. Rose was a person of many interests. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren, her cats, her angel collection, working on family and community history, watching the wildlife and the changing seasons on the farm where she resided until her last illness.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Hoffman in 1952; both her parents; and one grandson, Collin Gardener Shelton; husband, Loyd Steward in 2003.
Surviving are her children, Virgil A. (Cindy) Hoffman of Vermontville, Genie (Charlie) Hisler of Albion, Naomi Shelton of East Lansing; grandchildren, Aaron Hisler of Marshall, Lea Shelton of British Columbia, Jessica Shelton of East Lansing, Scott Hoffman of Battle Creek and Nicole Hoffman of Vermontville; three great grandchildren, Justin, Chris and Kaylee Hoffman.
Funeral services were held Feb. 8 at the Sunfield United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeffrey J. Schrock officiating. Interment was in the Sunfield Cemetery. For those wishing, contributions may be made to the Sunfield Library, or the UMC, C/O RFH P.O. Box 36 Sunfield, MI 48890.

Ida May (Lawton) Stouffer
Ida May (Lawton) Stouffer on Onondaga, passed away on Friday, June 29, 2007 at Ingham Regional Medical Center after a short battle with cancer, she was 76 years old. Ida was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Springport VFW. She loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing and was a tomboy through and through. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Jane Lawton; 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
She is survived by John, her husband of 52 years; six daughters, Glenna (David) Fugate of Tompkins, Jane Stouffer of Jackson, Teresa (Jeff) Brown of Springport, Sue (Carl) Hoag of Springport, Kathy (Bob) Harris of Albion and Diana (Corky) Helm of Springport; ten grandchildren, Matthew (Paula) Fugate, Richard Fugate, Angela (Chris) Brock, Allison Hamilton, Nicole Fitch, Kaitlyn and Lucas Helm, Carlee, John and Jerry Hoag; a great grandson, Chance Brock; a sister, Nancy Yahnka; and a brother, Don Lawton, both of Springport, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Springport VFW on Tuesday, July 3 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bob Doner officiating. Interment will follow at Tompkins Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Adams-Rockey Post 6056 Ladies Auxiliary.
Thomas Sullivan
Thomas Sullivan, 64, of Olivet, died Wednesday, Nov. 21. He was born Sept. 21, 1943 in Santa Monica, Calif.
Mr. Sullivan was a retired real estate agent. He is survived by his wife, Judy and cousin Linda Jo Scott.
