Barbara Trowbridge
Barbara (Sue) Trowbridge, 69, of Vermontville, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Dec. 20, 2007. She will be sadly missed by us all. Sue was born April 9, 1938 in Hazard County, KY and had been an Eaton County area resident for 60 years.
She had been employed at Michigan Magnetics in Vermontville from where she retired in 2000 after 30 years of service.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Channing Gene Trowbridge in 1999.
Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Buddy Trowbridge; six children, Rodney (Carmen) Trowbridge of Bath, Debra (Allan) Steward of Charlotte, Theresa Trowbridge of Charlotte, Suzette (Rick) Anthony of Battle Creek, Ryan (Jessica) Trowbridge of Bellevue and Tana (Jim) Miller of Vermontville; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and five siblings, June Wells of Charlotte, Charles "Sonny" White of Portland, Eugene Fraley of Vermontville, Annabelle Emenheiser of Eaton Rapids and Wayne Fraley of Springport.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Pastor Duane Royston officiating. Interment was in the Sunfield Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were her grandsons, Casey and Nick Steward, Jason and Mason Trowbridge, David and Jimmy Primm and Rick Anthony.

Mildred Turner
Mildred M. Turner, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Sebewa Township, was called into Heaven on April 20, 2007 at Spectrum Health Continuing Care in Grand Rapids. Mildred was born June 16, 1912 in Garfield, KY, daughter of Taylor and Dora (Kenner) Marr.
Mildred began working at various jobs including seven years at a shirt factory. She served the church as a pastor's wife for 23 years. Her service to the church began as a teenager including church pianist, accordion player, Sunday School teacher, a licensed deaconess, preacher, janitor and youth leader. She completed a nursing program leading to a charge nurse at Longview State Hospital for 12 years.
After retiring she enjoyed living in Kentucky and North Carolina with her sons. Michigan has been her home for the last 26 years of her life. The past four years she lived at Spectrum Continuing Care Center, 4118 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan.
For those wishing contributions may be made to Spectrum in memory of Mrs. Mildred M. Turner. She supported many Christian ministries and was a dedicated prayer warrior on which her family depended greatly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sewell Stephen Hulett; and her oldest son, Paul Stephen Hulett.
Surviving are her sons, James Hulett, David Hulett, and John Hulett; grandchildren; as well as great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held April 27, 2007 at the Rosier Funeral Home, Mapes-Fisher Chapel, Sunfield, with the Rev. Brian Sheen officiating. Interment was at the East Sebewa Cemetery.

Rex Tyler
Rex A. Tyler, age 56, of Eaton Rapids, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at his residence. Rex was born November 15, 1950 in Lansing, the son of Ivan Keith and Nancy Lee (Hubbard) Tyler. He retired as an engineer with Fasco Motors in Eaton Rapids. Rex was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, motocross, and completed the Dalmac several times. He also loved music and was an excellent guitarist.
Preceded in death by his father, Ivan, and brother, Forrest Tyler, Rex is survived by his wife of 38 years, Virginia (Perez); daughter, Erika (Nathan Bogo) Tyler of Dimondale; son, Rick (Tiffany) Tyler of Tennessee; grandchildren, Jakob and Isaak Bogo, Cody Tyler, Payton Lyndsey; parents, Nancy and DeWayne Tyler of Charlotte; 3 brothers, Keith Tyler, Donald Tyler, both of Reed City, Rockey Tyler of Eaton Rapids; 2 sisters, Toni (Dave) Kiss of Cheboygan, Penny (Dave) Wendle of Grand Ledge; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Saturday, June 9, 2007 at the Eaton Rapids Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Arrangements are by the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.
Sharon Upright
Sharon A. Upright, 64, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007. Mrs. Upright was born April 6, 1943 in Lansing, the daughter of Floyd and Grace (Pike) Strouse.
Mrs. Upright was a 15-years employee of Michigan National Bank in Charlotte. She was an active member of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church and served as treasurer. Mrs. Upright volunteered for the Red Cross for over 25 years, was a member of the Eastern Star and a former Cub Scout Leader.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Dave.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Paul; son, Scott (Debbie) Upright of Saginaw; son, Jim Upright of Albion; six grandchildren, Jacob, Christopher, Garrett, Mitchell, Harrison and Linden; mother, Grace Strouse of Charlotte; brother, Mike (Kay) Strouse of Charlotte; sister, Virgie Muirn of Lansing; sister, Pat (Kelly) Lewis of Grand Ledge.
Funeral services were held Nov. 12, 2007 at Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church, Charlotte, MI with Reverend Karen Wheat officiating.

Marjory Urie
Marjory J. (Bryner) Urie, age 78, of Charlotte, died Thursday, June 28, 2007 at the Eaton Community Hospice House in Charlotte. Mrs. Urie was born Oct. 7, 1928 in Chester Township, Eaton County, the daughter of Benjamin and Hattie (Hall) Bryner and had been a Charlotte resident since 1950.
She had been employed at the Owens-Illinois (Now Owens-Brockway) Glass Co. in Charlotte from where she retired. She was a member of the Lawrence Ave. United Methodist Church and it's Naomi Circle and was a longtime Red Cross Volunteer at Hayes-Green-Beach Hospital in Charlotte. She was married to Charles L. Urie on June 5, 1946.
He preceded her in death on May 26, 2006. Also preceding her in death was a son, Charles "Chuck" Urie on Dec. 10, 2005.
Surviving are, four children, Sharon Lilly of Charlotte, Jack (Roberta) Urie of Greely, CO, Holly (Terry) Pentecost of Charlotte and JoAnn (Dan) Starr of Adrian; nine grandchildren, Rob Lilly, Cheryl Worden, Jason Lilly, Nicole Kirby, Will Urie, Heidi Pentecost, Travis Pentecost, Angelica Dekker and Colter Starr; and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held July 2, 2007 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Rev. Rebecca Morrison officiating. Interment was in the Benton Township Cemetery.

Paul Vahs
Paul John Vahs, 85, of Bellevue, died Oct. 30, 2007 at home. He was born Oct. 1, 1922, the son of Benjamin and Bessie (Johnson) Vahs in Convis Township.
Paul worked as a truck driver for Farm Bureau in Marshall and owned his own dairy farm.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Arlo, and sister-in-law Delmont Vahs.
He married Pauline A. Proctor on Dec. 10, 1943. She survives. Also surviving are son, Phil (Doreen) Vahs of Bellevue; daughter, Burdeena (Marvin) Owen of Charlotte, Vivian (Roger) Holdcraft of Olivet; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brother, Frank (Judy) Vahs of Marshall; and sister, Valdean (Don) Kirkland of Battle Creek.
Paul was a member of the Michigan Farm Bureau and the Michigan Milk Producers Association. He loved to farm and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
No services or visitation are scheduled.

Ralph VanAuken
Ralph J. VanAuken, 84, of Dimondale died Monday, Oct. 8 at the Michigan Masonic Home in Alma following a long illness. Mr. VanAuken was born May 9, 1923 in Assyria, son of Bryan and Severa (Swift) VanAuken.
He was an Oldsmobile employee and retired with 36 years of service. Farming and his yard were his other passions. Ralph was a life member of the Potterville Masonic Lodge and a member of the Potterville Order of the Eastern Star.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Doris in 1961 and his son Richard in 1997.
Services were held Oct. 12 at the Dimondale United Methodist Church with Rev. Thomas Peters and Rev. Becky Morrison officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the hospice of choice. Arrangements were handled by Field & Leik Funeral Home in Dimondale.
Claude VanBlarcom
Claude Gorham VanBlarcom, 90, of Vermontville, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at Sparrow Hospital. Claude was born March 26, 1917 to Guy and Bertha VanBlarcom in Sunfield Township. He was married to Alice Wright on March 25, 1939.
She preceded him in death in January 2002 after 63 years of marriage. Claude had been a lifelong resident of the Vermontville area. He was a farmer, ran a sawmill, and was a very accomplished carpenter, having built many homes in the area. He loved to be outside working in his garden, he was an avid reader, and a giving caregiver. He was most proud of the accomplishments of his two grandsons, and of the fact that he lived to meet two great grandsons.
Claude was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Glenna (Rolland) Coleman, Zelna (Leon) Rose, Mable (Russel) Booher, Edith (Harold) Benedict, brother, Kenneth VanBlarcom.
He is survived by his daughter Marabeth (Stan) Graham, his two grandsons, Travis (Bree) Graham and Trent (Alaina) Graham and two great grandsons Kyle and Alex. He is also survived by sister Josephine Cates and sister-in-laws Teresa VanBlarcom and Lillian Howe Patterson, special friend, Agnes Lake and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 18, 2007 at the Rosier Funeral Home, Mapes-Fisher Chapel, in Sunfield, Mich. with Pastor Kathy Smith of the Vermontville, United Methodist Church officiating.
