Virginia Wellman
Virginia Lee Wellman, 84, of Charlotte passed away Wednesday, Sept. 19. She was born June 29, 1923 in Lansing, Mich., the daughter of George and Anna (Signs) Nisse.
Virginia was a member of VFW Post 2406; Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Charlotte Aerie # 3552; and American Legion, Charlotte Post 42.
She was preceded in death by nine siblings and one granddaughter, Shawn Wellman.
She is survived by her husband, Burleigh D. Wellman of Charlotte, three sons; Burleigh D. (Marilyn) Jr. of Charlotte, Michael T. Wellman of Charlotte, and Mark G. (Angie) of Flint; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great- great-grandson; a sister, Barbara (Carl) DeMuth of Charlotte, and brother-in-law, Ralph Higdon of Florida.
Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23 at the Charlotte Eagles Hall, with Chuck Jensen officiating.
Marcella Barbretta Wells
Marcella Barbretta Wells, 72, of Lake Odessa, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007. She was born Jan. 19, 1934 in Saranac, daughter of Vernard H. and Lillian L. (Pemberton) Miller.
Marcella was preceded in death by six sisters, Evelyn Mutschler, Dorothy Dean, Mazie Ingersoll, Geraldine Goodenough, Virginia Magee and Patricia Bailey; both her parents; grandson, David Andrew Wells; and her beloved dog, Misty; and her best friend, Eunice Williams.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald E. Wells, five children, Ronald Eugene (Sandy) Wells Jr., Deborah (Troy) Black, Diana (Ted) Wells, Connie (Brett) Johnson, Kay (David) Beach, grandchildren, Christopher, Amanda, Daniel, Tiffany, Adam, Amy, Alyson, Tracy, Jodi, Eric, Joey, Andy and Michael; great-grandchildren, MacKenzie, Orion, Lyalka, Mercutio, Ethan, Krin, Cole, Amelia, Lydia and Benjamin; and her beloved dog, Callie Jo.
Funeral services were held Jan. 16, 2007 at the Sunfield United Methodist Church. For those wishing, contributions may be made to the Senior Lunch Program in Sunfield, American Cancer Society, or the Ingham Co. Humane Society in memory of Mrs. Wells C/O RFH P.O. Box 36 Sunfield, MI 48890.

Noel N. Wells
Noel N. Wells, age 56 of Eaton Rapids died Monday, November 12, 2007 at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall. Born July 6, 1951, the son of Edwin and Vilona (Fisher) Wells. Noel was an Eaton Rapids High School graduate, class of 1969, and had worked for the Ford Motor Co. Noel enjoyed race cars and was an avid NASCAR fan. Preceding him in death were his parents.
He is survived by his 4 children, Shane, Amy Reynolds, Jeremy and Scott; 6 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Imogene (Charles) Rankin and April Wells; brother, Lester Wells and 2 nieces.
Funeral services were held November 17, 2007 from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Burial followed in the Oakwood Cemetery. For those desiring memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Miracle Network in memory of Noel N. Wells.
Zoey Wells-Arnold
Zoey N. Wells-Arnold, infant daughter, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007. Her parents are Jeff Wells and Kari Arnold of Charlotte.
She is survived by her parents; brother, Tristan Arnold; brother, Kody Arnold; sister, Ashley Wells; grandparents; Joan Dutcher; Helen Wells; great grandmother, Hallie Dutcher; aunts, Sara Hoppes, Amanda Andrus, Karla Myers and uncle, Doug Wells.
Funeral services were held Nov. 5, 2007 at Center Eaton Cemetery, Charlotte, with Pastor Darwin Kuhl officiating.

Kenneth Welsh
Kenneth S. Welsh, 48, of Springport, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007. Mr. Welsh was born Nov. 25, 1958 in Charlotte, the son of Boyd and Jacquline (Roberts) Welsh.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Diane Myers and Debbie Sutberry.
He is survived by his son, Shane (Desaree) Welsh of Lansing; brother, Jerry Welsh and sister, Joyce Lillie.
There will be no services held.

Marjorie Wentzloff
Marjorie A. Wentzloff, age 79, of Charlotte, died June 28 at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility where she had been a resident for 10 years. Mrs. Wentzloff was born Feb. 24, 1928 in Muskegon, the daughter of Alfred and Henrietta (Pappe) Benson and had been a Charlotte resident for 17 years.
She was a retired employee of Wal-Mart of Charlotte, was a member of the Evangel Christian Church of Charlotte and was a Past President of the Eaton County Medical Care Facility Resident Council.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Loretta Benson.
Surviving are, one daughter, Kathleen Ann (Donald) Lenz of Ludington, MI; two sons, Randy C. (Pamela) Wentzloff of Collierville, TN and Larry L. (Susan) Wentzloff of Fountain Inn, SC; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one brother, Richard Benson of Ludington.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A memorial service was held July 2, 2007 at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility "Great Room" with Pastor William Tate officiating. Inurnment was in the West Riverton Cemetery in Ludington, MI.

Freddie “Mr. Maxine” West
Freddie “Mr. Maxine” West of Eaton Rapids, age 70, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at his home. Freddie was born July 11, 1936 in Waterford Twp., Oakland County, the son of John Charles and Idella Mae (Schiller) West. He retired from a 40 years career with Metalist International in Lansing, served as a volunteer at South Baptist Church and helped build the Robbins UMC fellowship hall and new kitchen along with Pastor Joe Houston and Bill England. Freddy and his wife built the family business, Maxine’s Cake & supply Shoppe, in Eaton Rapids and he lovingly became known as “Mr. Maxine”. Preceded in death by eleven brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Maxine; daughter, Tonya Zoč (Jeff) Plekes of Rockford; son, Brent Frederick West of Grand Rapids; 2 grandchildren, MaKayla Zoč and Jarrett Plekes; brother, Edgar (Mary) West of Lansing; sister, Della Thompson of Levering; and many many beloved nieces & nephews.
Funeral services were held January 26, 2007 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids with Pastor Randy Umfleet of South Church officiating. Interment followed at Munger Cemetery, Eaton Rapids with his nephews, Larry (deceased), Bud, George, Greg, Johnny, Howard, Russell, Alvin, Jeffrey, Jamie, Billie, Robbie, Terry, Jessie, and Tommy as casket bearers. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Ingham Home Health Care Hospice or Eaton Community Hospice in memory of Freddie West.
Ray West
Ray M. West, of Palm City, Fla., passed away Feb. 28, 2007 in Martin Memorial Medical Center. He was born in Quincy, IL, and lived in Palm City for 15 years coming from Fort Lauderdale.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Shelia Hough West of Palm City; son, Roy L. West of Fort Lauderdale; daughter, Christine Jordan of Topeka, Kansas; and three grandchildren.
Graveside services were held May 5 at the Sunfield Cemetery with the Rev. Darrel Bosworth officiating.
The family is being served by the Independent Family Owned Funeral Home in Sunfield, Rosier Funeral Home.
Walter D. Whalen
Walter D. Whalen, age 70, of Eaton Rapids, formerly of Newberry, died July 9, 2007 at his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Whalen was born March 15, 1937 in Ashton, Michigan, son of Clyde and Marion (Sly) Whalen. Walter enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a great love for the outdoors. He was a retired carpenter with the State of Michigan and a member of the American Legion at Newberry.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; four children, Debra Jones of Wellsville, PA, Louanna (Jay) Hovorka of Charlotte, Walter “Buck” (Cheryl) Whalen and Richard (Nancy) Whalen, both of Eaton Rapids; 10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; four brothers, Wayne and Al Whalen, James “Joe” Erickson and Richard Hammenberg; four sisters, Linda Stanaway, Cheryl Lotz, Gabrielea Gaskins and Jackie Almay; nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Field & Leik Funeral Home, Dimondale.
Robert L. Whelpley
Robert L. Whelpley, 84, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007 at the Pines Healthcare Center in Lansing after an extended illness. Mr. Whelpley was born Sept. 20, 1923 in Brockway, PA and had been a Charlotte area resident since 1968.
He had served in the U. S. Army during World War Two, was a retired employee of Owens-Illinois Glass Co. in Charlotte and was a member of the Delta Haven Free Methodist Church in Lansing.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Hazel R. (Davis) Whelpley on Dec. 11, 2005.
Surviving are six children, Robert L. (Norma) Whelpley of Penfield, PA, Alan (Sue) Whelpley of Elizabeth Town, PA, Gary (Daune) Whelpley of Lansing, Sharon Kuepfer of Charlotte, Donald (Gwen) Whelpley of Holt and Ronald Whelpley of Massachusetts; 20 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial services were held Nov. 24, 2007 at the Delta Haven Free Methodist Church, 12406 Broadbent Road, Lansing, with Pastor Ralph Funk officiating. Interment of cremains at a later date in the Dimondale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may go to the Delta Haven Free Methodist Church.
