Cecil C. Powers
age 80, of Charlotte, died at his home on Saturday, November 22, 2003. Mr. Powers was born July 31, 1923 in Bellevue, California, daughter Martha Sue (Mike) Gross of Vermontville, Michigan, Cecily Powers of New Zealand, Jonathon Gross of California, brothers Knox (Nelda) Powers of Nevada, sisters Anita (Bill) Weise of Alabama, Myriel (Ken) Akershoek of California. He was preceded in death by sisters Delven Irene and Jeane Harriet. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Bill Weise officiating. Interment will be in Hillside (Kalamo) Cemetery in Kalamo Township. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-8:30 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice or Lansing S.D.A. Church.
Helen E. Sampson
90, of Winona Lake, Indiana and Ellen (George) Harton of Glenn Dale, Maryland, 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Leon Sampson in 2000. Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
Dorothy Evelyn 'Dottie' Carpenter
71 of Charlotte, died Saturday, November 29, 2003 in Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of Morris and Evelyn (Amaro) Gray, Sr. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, a former school bus driver, and had been a volunteer for the Eaton Community Hospice, Helping Hands, the Siren Eaton Shelter and she and her husband were active in the Meals on Wheels program. They especially loved visiting lighthouses throughout North Carolina, 5 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, brothers Donald Gray of West Greenwich, Rhode Island, Joseph Gray of Minden, Louisiana and sister Gertrude Gulyas of Juneau, Alaska. She was preceded in death by her brother Morris Gray, Jr. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Yeagley officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamlin Township, Eaton Rapids. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice.
Elijah Sampsel
infant son of Chad and Alicia Sampsel of Charlotte passed away November 30, 2003 shortly after his birth. Elijah is survived by his parents, Chad and Alicia (Ferguson) Sampsel, his half brothers, Brandon and Raymond Sampsel, Grandparents, Max and Nancy Sampsel of Charlotte, Elmer Ferguson of Niles, and Pat Ferguson of Charlotte, Great-Grandparents Willard and Etta Gleason of Atlanta, MI and four uncles and aunts. Graveside Services will be 2PM Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte with R. Raymond Rossell officiating.
Edith Diane Smith
48, of Charlotte, Michigan State University in 1981. She lived most of her life in Charlotte. Cindy loved fine literature and was a voracious reader. She collected family antiques and photographs and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. She dearly loved her nieces and nephews and her cat, Izzy. Cindy is survived by her parents, Rod and Joyce Yates of Charlotte; sisters Susan of Williamstown, Massachusetts, Judith (Paul Williams) and Kate (Tom Cizek) both of Traverse City; nieces and nephews Chris, Dave, Andy, Colin, Libbie, Cam, Laura and Donny. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and a nephew, Jesse. A memorial service at the First Congregational Church in Charlotte is planned for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2003. Friends are welcome to meet the family at the church an hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Cindy's name, to Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Steven Earl Preadmore
27 of Potterville, died Friday, December 5, 2003 as a result of an automobile accident. Steven was born February 19, 1976 in Lansing, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Hoover) Roberts. She is survived by step-daughter, Sonie Crockett of St. Paul, Minnesota, daughters, Mary (Scott) Palmer of Charlotte, Susan (Edward) Wollferum of Royal Oak, son Alan (Laurie) Bosworth of Charlotte, grandchildren, Kirk (Nicole) Palmer, Kraig (Chris) Palmer, Kasey Palmer, Jake Bosworth, Mary-Kate Bosworth, Alex Bosworth, Scot (Salley) Crockett, great grandchild, Meredyth Crockett, and brother Paul (Geraldine) Roberts of Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her husband, Auletus Bosworth, March 11, 1993 and stepson-in-law David Crockett. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 13 at Pray Funeral Home with Rev. Karen Wheat officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday. Ilah A. Faulkner
age 80 of Charlotte, died Friday, December 12, 2003 after a short illness. Miss Faulkner was born August 22, 1923 on the family farm in Eaton County, the daughter of Ira and Ruby (Love) Faulkner. She worked as a secretary for Century Mutual and Farm Bureau Insurance, retiring in 1985 and was a member of the Free Methodist Church of Charlotte. She is survived by her twin sister, Alta Poskey of Potterville, sister Ivadean Dickinson of Charlotte, brothers, Hugh (Adalyn) Faulkner of Livonia, Lynn Faulkner of Lansing, Carrol 'Pete' (Dorothy) Faulkner of Battle Creek, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 15, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Darold Hill officiating. Interment will be in West Carmel Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Free Methodist Church or Eaton Community Hospice.
Frederick Edward Jones
94 of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Mr. Jones was born December 27, 1908 in Barrow In Furness, England, the son of Albert and Mary Jane (Parkinson) Jones. He was the Assistant Vice President of the National Bank of Detroit until his retirement in 1974. Mr. Jones was a Past Master of Trinity Blue Lodge #502 in Detroit and a former member of Metropolitan Methodist Church in Detroit. He is survived by his son, David Jones of Bloomfield Township, daughter, Lynda (Richard) Otto of Olivet, grandchildren, Heath, Timothy and Laura Otto, and brother, Albert (Nell) Jones of Hendersonville, Michigan, with Rev. Roy Backus of Olivet Congregational Church, officiating. Interment will be in White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, Michigan.
Mary Lorraine Kikendall
68, of Charlotte, Michigan, the daughter of Alvin and Dorothy (Alcorn) Moore. Mary was a former Roller Derby Queen for the Port Huron Rockets and a former Powder Puff Demolition Derby Contestant. Mary is survived by her husband Dale Kikendall of Charlotte, daughters Carolyn (Larry) Siefert of Springport, Julia Schamehorn (Doug Foreman) of Olivet, step-daughters Kelly (Gary) Fowler of Springport, Anita (Brady) Robertson of Jackson, 13 grandchildren Christopher, Juan, Jessica, James, Charles, Christina, David, Jacob, Joey, Austin, Nikki, Cheyanne, and Hunter, brother Alvin (Mareleen) Moore and sister Carolyn Basnaw all from Port Huron and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Barry Frasier in 1977. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with Rev. Donald Green officiating. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be at Lakeport Cemetery in Port Huron, Michigan, died Tuesday, December 16, 2003. Mr. McKishnie was born June 15, 1915, in Charlotte, Michigan, the daughter of Howard and Gertrude (Coggins) Cross. She was a purchasing agent for Saginaw Machine and Tool Company and a member of St. Stephens Catholic Church in Saginaw. She is survived by daughter Kathy (Glenn) Gunser of East Northport, Michigan 48602-3146, with Rev. Fr. Pat O'Connor officiating. Interment will be in St. Andrews Cemetery in Saginaw.
