Dorotha M. Huva
Dorotha May Huva, 96, of Charlotte, formerly of Wauseon, Ohio, passed away Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006 at her son’s home in Charlotte.
Mrs. Huva was born Jan. 16, 1910 in Wauseon, Ohio, to the late John Van Pelt and the late Bertha (Geer) Van Pelt. On Oct. 28, 1928 she married William Huva Jr., who preceded her in death in 1985. Mrs. Huva was a lifetime homemaker and a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church in Wauseon, Ohio.
Survivors include: son, David (Marjorie) Huva of Charlotte; daughter, Phyllis Herman of Montpelier, Ohio; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Violet Van Pelt of Wauseon, Ohio, and Elizabeth Banks of Maumee, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death, besides her husband, was: a son, Richard, in 1932; twin brother, Donald Van Pelt; and a brother, Howard Van Pelt.
Funeral services were held Feb. 27 at Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon, Ohio, with Rev. Charles Althoff officiating. Interment was at Wauseon Union Cemetery.
A memorial/celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 19 at First Lutheran Church, 550 E. Shepherd St., Charlotte, with Pastor Tim Olson officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Lutheran Church MOST program.
Laurence “Larry” E. Jackson
Laurence “Larry” E. Jackson, age 75 of Lansing and formerly of Eaton Rapids, died Monday, February 13, 2006 at Tendercare South where was living for the past 2 years. He was born May 14, 1930 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Andrew and Bera (Cole) Jackson. Larry was a Springport High School graduate and had worked for Home Development Inc. in Okemos as a Carpenter. Larry was a member of the Griffith United Methodist church in Eaton Rapids. He was preceded in death by his wife Billie in 1990; daughter, Wendy Shephard; 2 brothers, Fred and Forrest Jackson and sister, Marietta Hammond.
Surviving are 2 sons, Bradley (Lucy) Jackson of Eaton Rapids and Mark Jackson of Eaton Rapids; 5 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Naida Pelton of Jackson and Mary (Carlos) Bailey of Olivet; sister-in-law, Mildred Jackson of Eaton Rapids and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. from the Griffith United Methodist Church in rural Eaton Rapids. Family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to service time. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made directly to the family in memory of Laurence E. Jackson.
Carol K. Jacobson
Carol Kaye Jacobson, 62, of Rives Junction, formerly of Charlotte, died Feb. 13, 2006.
Mrs. Jacobson was born Jan. 27, 1944, the daughter of Victor and Rosemary (Azzarello) Pinta. She enjoyed her family, her job and especially going to her grandchildren’s sports activities. She was formerly employed at the Eaton County Juvenile Court as a collection specialist and then as an accountant with the Michigan State University School of Social Sciences. She liked reading fiction novels. Traveling to South Carolina beaches, holiday dinners and Christmas with her family were some of her greatest passions. Carol was especially proud of her Italian heritage and cherished her trip to Italy/Sicily with her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by: husband, Mike; daughters, Ria (George) Cole of Southgate, Beth Jacobson of Portage; four grandchildren, Austin Gulick, Caroline Jacobson, Phoebe Cole, Jacob Cole; sisters, Joan Sims of Alton, Ill., Vicky (Gene) Blackwood of Alton, Ill., Lyn (Dennis) Gray of Tuscon, Ariz.; brother, Victor Pinta of Florence, Ky.; and sister-in-law, Dee Pinta of Columbia Ill.
Funeral services were held Feb. 18 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlotte, with Rev. Father Denis Spitzley officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Edward “Sonny” James
Edward “Sonny” James, age 79, of Lansing, died Wednesday, May 24, 2006. Mr. James was born Feb. 28, 1927, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Frank and Mary (Cotton) James.
Mr. James was a Laborer for Labor Union #998 and served in the Army in W.W. II.
He is survived by his brother Ernest L. Shadrick, Jr.; niece, Sandy Shadrick; niece, Janelle Rogers, niece, Laura James and friends, John and Peggy Montie. He will be greatly missed by all.
Graveside services will be held for Mr. James at Ft. Custer National Cemetery on Friday, June 9, at 2 p.m.

Jerrie M. Jewell
Jerrie M. (Junior) Jewell, age 82, of Olivet, passed away May 26, 2006. He was born Sept. 12, 1923 to Jerrie and Flora (Bealafeld) Jewell in Olivet.
He was a mechanic in his father's garage in Olivet for many years. He is survived by two brothers, Gideon and Floyd, and a sister, Lucy Howard.
Private graveside services were held. Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte.
Annie Mae Johnson
Annie Mae Johnson left this earth on Saturday, June 10, 2006 to enter a life of eternal glory with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Those to welcome her home were her husband, James E. Johnson; brother, Leonard Trosper; daughter-in-law, Joan J. Johnson; and grandson, Seth A. Page. A celebration of her 87 years will be held today at 11:00 a.m. at the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids, Michigan.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, James Marlin Johnson of Eaton Rapids and Herbert Allen Johnson of Charlotte; daughters, Phyllis Ann (Jim) Davison of Eaton Rapids and Judy Mae Page of Lansing; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; sisters, Modean Berryhill of Grand Ledge and Fay Gray of Eaton Rapids; several nieces and nephews.

Billie J. Johnson
Billie J. Johnson, 71, passed away June 1, 2006 in Bradenton, Florida.
She is survived by her mother, Iva Brock and brother, Terry Brock of Charlotte. She is also survived by her children: Teri, Steven, Larry, Patrick and Curtiss Johnson; grandchildren: Dylan, Bennett, Rachel, Lindsey, Casey and Garland and great-grandchild, Ayla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Casey Johnson.
Billie spent her life as a devoted mother and grandmother and will be missed deeply. Private services to be held in Bradenton, Florida. In lieu of flowers, a donation to The American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice is requested.
James Reginald “Reg” Johnson
James Reginald “Reg” Johnson, age 89, of Eaton Rapids died Thursday, August 24, 2006 at the Moore Adult Foster Care Home in Charlotte. He was born December 24, 1916 in Eaton Rapids the son of James R. and Ora D. (Holcomb) of Johnson Sr.. Mr. Johnson was an Eaton Rapids High School graduate, class of 1934, and served in the Army during World War II. He was a retired farmer and Millwright as well as Union Steward for the Dana Corporation, retiring in 1978. He was preceded in death by his wives, Ruth Noreen Lasley of 21 years in 1957 and Patsie L. Lewis of 42 years in 2001; daughter, Ruth Ann Johnson and 3 sons, Richard, Bud and Bill Johnson.
He is survived by his 6 children, Jayne (Jerry) Lane of Colorado, Darlene (David) Niethmmer of Woodland, Michelle (Mike) Spence of Virginia, Gina (David) Harwood of Ohio, Robert (Carole) Johnson of Texas and Carolyn Manns of Lansing; 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and 4 great great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, August 28, 2006 from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. Dr. Jesse James, officiating. Pallbearers were Jerry Lane, Ryan Harwood, Denny Harwood, Joe Harwood, Greg Manns and Joe Bullen. For those desiring memorial contributions may be made to the V.F.W. National Home in memory of James “Reg” Johnson.The family wishes to give their heartfelt thanks to the Moore Adult Foster Care Home for the exceptional care given to their father during his stay with them.
Helen R. Jones
Helen R. Jones, 84, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006 at the Eaton Community Hospice House. Mrs. Jones was born Aug. 11, 1922 in Limestone, Pa. the daughter of Ralph and Junie (Henry) Smith and had been a Charlotte resident since 1972, coming from Clarion, Pa.
She had been employed at Hoover Universal in Charlotte, from where she retired. She was a member of the Charlotte Free Methodist Church and enjoyed bowling, gardening, crafts and birds.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William E. Jones in 1975; great-grandson, Brayden Steffe; three brothers, Lee, Rayburn and Woodrow Smith; three sisters, Leona Kemmer, Faye Smith and Ruth Fitzsimmons.
She is survived by three daughters, Misty (Greg) Smith of Columbia City, Ind., Ramona Lee of Charlotte and Rhonda (Steve) Galvin of Union City; two step-sons, Robert E. (Bonnie) Jones of Olivet and Jack Jones of California; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; three sisters, Larue (Stan) O'Neil of Knox, Pa., Janet (Floyd) O'Neil of Knox, Pa. and Jean (Emerson) Raybeck of Limestone, Pa.
Funeral services were held Nov. 25 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Pastor Donald Hill of Charlotte Free Methodist officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to Eaton Community Hospice House. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
