Wanda Lou Kitchen
Wanda Lou Kitchen of Springport, age 68, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2006 at home in Springport. Wanda was born October 23, 1937 in Onondaga Township. Ingham County, the daughter of Joseph Wright and Susan Eva (Stewart) Franklin. She retired from the State of Michigan as a supervisor in 1993. Wanda had a love for life and kids, and thoroughly enjoyed playing bingo & the slots. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Larry (Florence) and Jerry Franklin; sister-in-law, Ruth Franklin; and nephew, Jerry Griffin.
Wanda is survived by her sister, Sheila (Max) Mire of Springport; 2 brothers, Harvey (Eva) Franklin of Onondaga, George Franklin of Brighton; several nieces & nephews, and great grandnieces & great grandnephews.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids. Interment will follow at the Onondaga Cemetery. There will be a visitation today from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association in memory of Wanda Lou Kitchen.
Joan R. Kleinfelt
Joan Ruth Kleinfelt, 73, of Lansing, formerly of Charlotte, passed away Tuesday, March 14 at Sparrow Hospital after a short illness.
Joan was born Dec. 13, 1932 in Oneida Township, Eaton County, to John and Rheta (Brazee) Kleinfelt. She graduated from Olivet High School in 1950. Joan worked as a secretary for the state of Michigan Department of Military Affairs of the National Guard in Lansing and the Association for Retired Citizens - Michigan, among others. Over the years, she enjoyed swimming, sewing, reading, the theater, working with her many plants and flowers, and traveling to the Upper Peninsula.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, John (1993) and Rheta (1976) Kleinfelt; brother, David (1964); and a sister, Nancy (1963).
She is survived by: brother, William “Bill” (Dolores) Kleinfelt; nephews, Bryan (Wanda) Kleinfelt, Keith (Kelli) Kleinfelt; niece, Jane (Steven) Sobleskey; nephew, Carlton (Amy) Kleinfelt; niece, Teresa (Tim) Willbur; nephew, Bruce (Margaret) Leach of Ohio, and niece, Kathy (Brian) LeDoux of California; many great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, and all her friends who were a part of her life and more recently watched out for her well-being.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 19 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte. The family will receive visitors Sunday from 2 p.m. until the time of the memorial gathering at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Palliative Care Services of Sparrow Hospital or the Eaton Community Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Peter Klont
Peter Klont, 70, of Charlotte, died, Dec. 26, 2006. Mr. Klont was born Aug. 30, 1936 in Charlotte, the son of Frank and Edra (Beck) Klont.
Mr. Klont was a stonemason, bricklayer and owner of Klont's Adult Foster Care. He owned Iron Guard Security and Ornamental Iron Works and after his retirement owned K&K Concessions for a short period of time. Mr. Klont was a member of the Eagles #3552 and the American Legion #42, where he once was Legionnaire of the year.
He is survived by his sons, Jeffrey (Deborah) Klont of Eaton Rapids, Peter (Lauri) Klont of Charlotte and Terry (Sondra) Klont of Charlotte; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Marian (Elmer) Jones of Sarasota, Fla.; and brother Rodney (Luann) Klont of Charlotte.
There will be no services.

Elizabeth Knight
Elizabeth Knight, age 90, of Adams, Minn. died Sunday, June 4, 2006 at Adams Health Care Center.
She was born Sept. 26, 1915 in Potterville to Thomas and Estella (Bollock) Lipsey.
Elizabeth graduated from Charlotte High School in 1933 and attended business school in Lansing. She was married to Richard Knight on Feb. 10, 1940 in Goldfield, Iowa. They farmed in the Goldfield area until 1948 when they moved to Adams, Minn. where they also farmed. She was a member of the Little Cedar Lutheran Church and was active in the WELCA. Elizabeth had also been a 4-H leader in Adams and was a member of the Mower County Republicans, the Farm Bureau and the Mower County Red Cross.
She is preceded in death by her husband Richard and grandson, Charles Richard Knight.
She is survived by her daughter, Mardel Knight of Baltimore, Md.; Son, Keith (Betsy) Knight of Adams, Minn.; grandchildren, Elaine and Bryan Chalstrom of Manson, Iowa, Morgan Knight, Hilary Knight and Arlen Knight of Adams, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Ruth, Abigail, Jonathon and Israel Chalstrom; brothers, Martin (Phyllis) Lipsey of Charlotte, Robert (Charlotte) Lipsey of Marshall; sister, Beverly Lipsey of Charlotte; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held June 8 at Little Cedar Lutheran Church with The Reverend Shari A. Mason officiating. Interment followed at the Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield, Iowa.
Joseph P. Kohn
Joseph Patrick Kohn, 52 of Charlotte, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006 at Sparrow Health Systems in Lansing. Mr. Kohn was born Nov. 29, 1953 in Lansing, the son of John P. Sr. and Mary Evelyn (Everest) Kohn.
He worked at the Water Treatment Plant for the City of Charlotte for five years and prior to that he was a tool and die maker. He belonged to The Survivors Motorcycle Club and was an annual participant in the St. Vincent Children's Charities Ride. He loved fishing and being outdoors and was a Tiger baseball fan. His passion, however, was his children and family.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (Bulmer) Kohn; son, Andrew; daughter, Haley; mother, Mary Kohn of Lansing; brother, John Kohn Jr. (Dianne); sister, Mary Jane (Jim) Bancroft, all of Lansing; several nieces and nephews; godson and nephew, Justin Bancroft; and special friends, Scott and Susan Parker, Ken and Penny Ruff, and Greg and Gwen Gates.
Visitation was Oct. 17 at Pray Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent Children's Charities or the American Cancer Society.

Jon Michael Krancich
Jon Michael Krancich, 49, of Grand Ledge, died Dec. 6, 2006 in Kandahar, Afghanistan while employed as a private security contractor for the U.S. Protection and Investigations Security Company. A highly decorated veteran, Jon dedicated his life by proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army Rangers and Special Forces. His expertise, experience, and high level military training took him to the world's most dangerous places protecting lives, including those of world leaders and royalty. He loved animals, and also enjoyed and appreciated the quiet beauty that life offered.
He was preceded in death by parents, Anthony and Earlene (Eby) Krancich.
He was a dependable friend in both military and private life, and will be greatly missed by his loving family: His fiancée Ying of Thailand; brother, Steve Krancich; sisters, Mary (Sam Lopez) Krancich, and Toni (Rick) Zubrick; nieces, Jennifer Love and Jacqui Clark; nephews, Joseph Krancich, Matthew and Christopher Zubrick, great nieces and nephews, Jacob and Elizabeth Grace, Travis and Alexa Thomas; stepmother, Betty J. Krancich of Pompano Beach, Fla.; Special Aunt Ruth Makries of Largo, Fla. and family; cousins, Gary Makries of Colorado, and Patty Makries of Largo, Fla. and families. Special friends, Brothers in Arms, Units of 2nd 75th Ranger Battalion and U.S. Army Special Forces, extended families: Duke Love, Patti Krancich, Sally Williams and family, Diane McDaniels and family all of Grand Ledge, Mary Brooks, Tracy Parker and families of Lansing, Carl Black of Arizona, Ron and Babe Bates of Lewiston.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 15, at Holihan-Atkin Funeral Home Grand Ledge, Rev. Fr. James Eisele, officiating. Military graveside services followed at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

John Joseph Krawczyk
John Joseph Krawczyk, age 83, passed away October 17, 2006 in Lansing, MI. He was born August 16, 1923 in Lansing to Adam and Maryanna (Kagan) Krawczyk. John attended school in Eaton Rapids through High School. In January of 1941, John enlisted in the Navy. Early his Navy Career he served aboard the U.S.S. Tuccalossa. In 1944 John went to submarine school, then he served aboard seven submarines as a fire control technician. In 1954 John was chosen to serve aboard the U.S.S. Nautilus, the first atomic submarine. He was one of the original crew members. He also served as their unofficial photographer. He was always seen with a camera hanging from his neck, ready for that special shot. Many of his photos of the U.S.S. Nautilus and crew members were published in newspapers, magazines and books. Among his shipmates he was known as “Mr. Nautilus.” In his collections he has a vast number of published articles of the history being made by the U.S.S. Nautilus and crew. John was the last of the original crew to retire, retiring as a Senior Chief Petty Officer in 1965. During his career he received numerous decorations including many citations from the Secretary of Navy, Admiral Rickover and Gerald Ford of Michigan. During and after serving in the Navy, John went on to college in California majoring in photography. He worked in Commercial and Advertising studios before retiring. John was preceded in death by his father Adam Krawczyk and mother Maryanna, 1 brother; Joseph Henry, 3 sisters; Mrs. Wanda Eberwein, Mrs. Dolores Caine and Mrs. Anne Baker.
John is survived by 4 brothers, William Sr. (Florence), Stanley (Barbara), Ted (Ida), and Adam; 2 sisters, Mary (Rhon) Pierce and Sophia Bradley and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held October 23, at St. Mary’s Church in Charlotte, MI. Graveside services with military honors will be at Arlington Cemetery in Washington D.C. on November 9th at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Nautilus Memorial Submarine Force Library and Museum or The Nautilus Alumni Association in memory of John Joseph Krawczyk. Margaret Kubasczyk
Margaret Kubasczyk, 86, of Sherwood, passed away Monday, June 12, 2006 at Community Health Center of Coldwater.
She was born Oct. 6, 1919 in Hamtramack, Mich. to Peter and Martha (Kaczynski) Kubert. On April 15, 1939 in Garden City, Margaret married Frank Kubasczyk, who preceded her in death on November 27, 1984.
Margaret was a creative writer, she loved cats and enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by a son, Kenneth (Sandy) Kubasczyk of Sherwood; a daughter Barbara Fogg of Charlotte; five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Kubert, in 2003.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Good Samaritan Hospice.
John R. Kunce
John R. Kunce of Charlotte, age 59, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2006 in Lansing. John was born December 23, 1946 in Detroit, MI, the son of John and Harriet (Carlson) Kunce. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, serving in Viet Nam, and a member of the VFW Jean R. Anderson Post #7309. John belonged to the Mid Michigan Motorcycle Club and was owner & operator of Country Do Jo, instructing IKI-SHIN-Do Karate.
He is survived by his wife, Kacie of Charlotte; son, Dustin (Jessica) Norris, of Eaton Rapids; step-daughter, Korie Byron of Charlotte; 4 grandchildren, Dylan Norris, Shonie Norton, Katelynn & Gabrielle Kildee; step-mother, Dixie Kunce of KY; step-father, Ken Maitland of Dimondale; mother-in-law, Dorothy Mercer of Lansing; sister, Diana (Keith) Hayter of Eaton Rapids, Theodore (Evelyn) Kunce of KY; and several nieces & nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 11, 2006 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, with Rev. Dr. John Stewart officiating. For those desiring, contributions may be directed to the family memorial fund.
