Denise J. Mayle
Denise Jolene Mayle, 43, of Bruce Crossing, Mich. passed away at Spectrum Health Center in Grand Rapids July 5, 2006. She was born Sept. 22, 1962 in Charlotte.
Denise was a loving wife, mother, friend and companion. She was best known in her community for servicing computers in the local school districts and surrounding communities. She was employed by Smurfit Stone Container Corp. of Ontonagon, Mich. as a computer specialist.
Denise loved life, her family, her cats and many friends throughout her community. She will be remembered by all with whom she came in contact for her willingness to always give of her talents and self unconditionally.
She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce; four sons: Joshua, 19, Justin, 18, Wesley, 15 and Christopher, 13; parents: Roger and Barbara Zerba of Olivet; sisters: Carmen (Bob) Bjorklund of Crandall, Texas and Suzette (John) Patterson of Eaton Rapids; grandmother: Edith Engel of Charlotte; father-in-law Fred Mayle and his wife Sally Mayle of Alanson; sister-in-laws: Beverly Hepler of Pellston and Barbara Walker of Oden; along with many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10500 Plains Rd., Eaton Rapids at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 10.
Donations in lieu of flowers will be accepted at Settlers Credit Union, P.O. Box 107, Bruce Crossing, MI 49912 in care of Mayle Children College Fund.
The family is being served by Skinner Funeral Home of Eaton Rapids.
Mary N. McCune
Mary N. McCune, 97, of Petoskey, passed away June 5, 2006 at Bortz Health Care.
Mary was born Sept. 1, 1908 in Traverse City to Major and Mable (Macqueen) Carland. Her early years were spent in a number of communities in Northern Michigan. Her family eventually moved to Petoskey where Mary attended and graduated from High School with the Class of 1926. Following high school, Mary attended the University of Michigan, graduating in 1930.
On Aug. 23, 1934 she married Dr. Jay Dykhouse. The couple made their home and raised their family in Charlotte. Dr. Dykhouse preceded Mary in death in 1968. She later married her longtime friend Dr. Wm. McCune on March 22, 1974. They spent most of their married life in Petoskey. Dr. McCune preceded her in death on July 28, 1998.
During her years in Charlotte, Mary was a revered teacher of Latin and English. She was also an active member of her community and church serving in a number of leadership roles over the years. She had a wide circle of acquaintances and her gift of hospitality endeared her to her many devoted life-long friends.
Bay View has for many years held a special place in Mary’s heart. Her many fond memories of Petoskey and Bay View from her school days, led her to buy a cottage here in the 1940s. This love of Bay View continues on through her children and grandchildren.
Throughout her life, Mary’s number one priority began and ended with her family; she was a devoted wife and mother, and a wonderful grandmother. She had an amazing gift with children, which she was able to put to good use as a volunteer with Northern Michigan Hospital. Mary volunteered her time caring for new born and pre-mature babies, by holding and rocking them. Her warmth and kindness will be truly missed.
She enjoyed a good book, and loved games, in particular bridge and complex word puzzles. She also enjoyed sewing, baking and gardening.
Mary is survived by her son David Jay (Lucie) Dykhouse, daughter, Jane E. (Del) Andrews both of Petoskey and by daughter, Susan M. (Dick) Vanderlinde of Jacksonville, Fla.; her grandchildren are Mary Catherine (Joe) Dykhouse, David Jay (Rachel) Dykhouse Jr., Jay Douglas (Vivian) Dykhouse, Capt. Mark Delno Andrews, Gregory Jay (Katie) Andrews, Amy Jane (Jason) Weiland, Catherine V. Byers, Steve M. (Megan) Vanderlinde, and Lt. Andrew C. (Kate) van der Linde; great grandchildren include, Clara, Anna, Jacob, Thomas, Nicholas, Chase, Elaina, Lauren, Lindsay, Will, Gretchen, and three more due this summer.
A memorial service has also been planned for Saturday July 29th at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Petoskey for family and friends.
Lucille McDaniel
Lucille McDaniel, 90, of Charlotte, died Saturday, July 1, 2006 at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility. Mrs. McDaniel was born April 2, 1916 in Charlotte, the daughter of Fred and Hazel (Baker) Briggs.
She was a former Wilcox-Gay employee and worked at the State of Michigan, Motor Vehicle Division until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Phil McDaniel in January 1996.
She is survived by her son, Daniel (Gwendolyn) McDaniel of Holly; grandchildren, Janet (Miguel Cintron) McDaniel of Charlotte, N.C. and John McDaniel of Ypsilanti; two great-grandchildren, Denise and Eric Cintron; and sister, Miriam Wood of Charlotte.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 6 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating. Interment was held in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Ted McDaniel
Ted McDaniel, 80, of Holt, passed away Friday, March 3, 2006.
Mr. McDaniel was born Nov. 12, 1925 in Charlotte, the son of Franklin and Lola (Parish) McDaniel. Ted was a devoted father, a loving husband and an avid fisherman. The greatest gift he gave was his example of strength, courage and love as he silently battled all of his many health concerns.
He is survived by: his loving wife, Darlena; four children, Carol (Dave), Ted (Doreen), Elise, Anita; “adopted” children, Judy Scutt, Vern Scutt, John Johnson, John Lucas, Dan Stevens, Carol Deady; six grandchildren, Dave, Dan, Luke, Chantal, Lacie, Jesse; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Sullivan and Shirley Fuller; brother-in-law, Pete Galloup; sister-in-law, Juanita Galloup; brother-in-law, Dick Galloup; and all of the loving family members and friends who have been a part of his life.
Funeral services were held March 6 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Andy Croel officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or American Cancer Society.
William C. McHenry
William Charles “Bill” McHenry, 74, formerly of Charlotte, died Friday, March 24, 2006 in Lansing. Mr. McHenry was born Oct. 12, 1931 in Detroit, the son of Roy Jackson and Agnes (Reinhart) McHenry.
He had been a mechinist in skilled trades for Diamond Reo, Beach Manufacturing and Airway Manufacturing, until his retirement, at which time he moved to Narrow Lake.
He was a member of the Eaton Rapids Masonic Lodge #63. Bill was an outdoorsman and loved to fish, hunt, camp, do off-road biking and travel out west. His favorite sport was bow hunting and he was a former member of the White Feather Archery Club. He also served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; step-son Anthony “Buzz” (Patsy) Koeplinger of Spring Hill, Kansas; sons, Kurtis “Kurt” (Wendy) McHenry of Bellevue, Ronald (Cindy) McHenry of Santa Maria, Calif., and Russell McHenry; grandchildren, Erin (Brandon) Johnson, Sara McHenry, Jeni (Edward) Moore, Kinsy Koeplinger and Mandy (Paul) Smith; and great grandchildren, Blake Moore and Chloe Johnson.
Funeral services were March 28 at Pray funeral Home, with Pastor Irene Vittoz officiating. Interment was in at Maple Hill Cemetery.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and Eaton Community Hospice.

Richard A. McKenzie
Richard A. McKenzie, 69, of Kalamazoo, passed away Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006 in Kalamazoo. Richard was born Dec. 30, 1936 in Battle Creek, the son of Harold Hugh and Letha (Gemalsky) McKenzie. He was a general laborer in the Charlotte area.
He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Dorothy M. (McKenzie) Getter of Holt.

Alden W. McManus
Alden Wilfred McManus, 85, of Eaton Rapids, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2006 at the Eaton Community Hospice in Charlotte. He was born Dec. 17, 1921 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Robert and Alice (Smith) McManus.
Alden graduated from Eaton Rapids High School in 1940 and was a life-time farmer in Brookfield Township. He was a life member of the Brookfield Masonic Lodge and a member of Eaton Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Maudie; two children, Marge Ambs of Berrien Springs and Jerry (Peggy) McManus of Eaton Rapids; five grandchildren, Amy (Rob) Yoder, Tim Ambs, Michelle Smith, Heather (Jeff) Vick, Craig (Cathy) McManus; seven great-grandchildren; five brothers, Jack, Paul, Russell (Sharon), Douglas and Dennis; two sisters, Esther Harris and Beverly Bowyer; and many nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, Belle.
Funeral services were held Dec. 21 at 1 p.m. at the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Burial followed at the Perry Cemetery in Brookfield Township. Verness L. Mead
Verness L. "Vern" Mead, 81, of Bellevue, died Aug. 6, 2006 at home. He was born Nov. 5, 1924 to Leslie and Hazel (McConnell) Mead in Kalamo Township.
Vern served in the U.S. Army in the 5th Army Division, 741st Field Artillery during World War II. He worked as a reelman at Post Cereals making Super Sugar Crisps for 38 years, retiring in 1986.
Vern was a life member and past master of Kalamo Lodge 327 F & AM, a life member and past patron of Kalamo O.E.S. #399, a former member of several area square dance clubs and a member of the Post 25 Year Club.
He attended Bellevue United Methodist Church and its men's club. He enjoyed woodworking, mowing his lawn, camping, traveling and spending time with his family.
Vern and his wife, Ann (McCutcheon) Mead, were blessed with 57 years of marriage. She survives him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Florence Tanner Glenna Youngs and Doris Clemence; and brother, Velmon Mead.
Also surviving are daughter, Mrs. Sherri (Randy) Gardner of Bellevue; son, Dean (Jamie) Mead of Upper Arlington, Ohio; grandchildren, Brittany Gardner, Caroline Mead and Madeline Mead; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26 at Bellevue United Methodist Church, Pastor Virginia Heller, officiating.
A visitation will take place one hour before the service and the Masons will take part in the memorial service.
Memorials may go to Kalamo Lodge #327 Building Fund or Good Samaritan Hospice Care.
