William Edwin Mellon
William Edwin Mellon, 82, of Charlotte, died Dec. 10, 2006. Bill was born in Napoleon, Ohio in 1924.
He served in the Army for seven years during the time of World War II and attended the College of Education at Michigan State University for eight years, receiving his Master's degree. He taught and coached at Hillsdale College.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) in 2004.
He is survived by his son, Guilford Roy Mellon; daughter, Robin (Doug) Grimm; stepson, Martin Wilcox, stepdaughter, Mary Whitson; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at St. Johns Episcopal Church, Charlotte, Dec. 13 with Rev. William Ericson officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital or Charlotte Public Library.

Robert S. Merrifield
Robert S. Merrifield, 95, of Olivet, formerly of Bellevue and Charlotte, died Aug. 22. Mr. Merrifield was born in Middlebury, Ind. Sept. 4, 1910 the son of Walter and Savilla (Sparks) Merrifield and had been an area resident since 1920.
He was a lifelong farmer and had been employed at the Eaton Manufacturing Company in Battle Creek from where he retired in 1973 after 23 years of service. He was a longtime member of the Ainger Bible Church, a member of the Eaton Farm Bureau and while in Florida was involved in hospital volunteer service at New Port Richey Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth M. (Holmes) Merrifield in 1992 and four sisters.
Surviving are his son, Robert E. (Sarah Jane) Merrifield of Ormond Beach, Fla.; daughter, Linda Ann (William) Cleaveland of Kingsport, Tenn.; grandchildren, Stephen Merrifield, Kristina Nicholes, Jon Cleaveland and Paul Cleaveland; and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held Aug. 25 at the Ainger Bible Church with Rev. Scott Brood officiating. Interment was in the Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue. Arrangements were handled by the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Robert W. Meyers
Robert W. Meyers of Chelsea, formerly of Eaton Rapids, age 84, joined his Heavenly Father o Monday, August 7, 2006 in Chelsea. Bob was born January 18, 1922 in Dimondale, MI, the son of Floyd and Mary Elizabeth (Smith) Meyers and lived all of his life in the Eaton Rapids area. He graduated from Holt High School Class of 1939. Bob was loved by all who knew him and he never met a stranger. His favorite pastime was fishing, all seasons of the year. He never met a fish he didn’t like to catch, he didn’t like to eat some of them, but he caught all of them, often with tackle he made himself. Bob was a self-taught woodworker who made many things for his family and friends and enjoyed golf and walking. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Eaton Rapids for over 50 years and retired from Olds in 1981 after over 30 years of service. Preceded in death by his first wife Irene; siblings, Delite, Geraldine, June, Ruth, Delbert, and Harold.
Bob is survived by his wife, of 22 years, Inez Marie Meyers; children, Charlene (Marvin) DeWitt of Rudyard, Clifton P. (Gail) Meyers of Cheboygan, MI, Rosemary (Tom) Combs of Lakeland and Bonnie (Dennis) Mann of Aurora, OH; grandchildren, Kymberlee Lamoreaux, Katherine (Brett) Wickerham, Travis DeWitt and Paul DeWitt; great grandchildren, Meghyn, MacKenzie, Blake and Nicholas; brother-in-law, John Cherry of Eaton Rapids and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 11, 2006 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids with Pastor Tom Evans officiating. Interment followed at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids, with Travis DeWitt, Paul DeWitt, Andrew Brewer, Keith Mann, Kevin Mann and Philip DeWitt as casket bearers. Honorary bearers were Arthur Thuma, Roger Greenhoe, Donald Dowding and Douglas McConnell. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Mercy Hospice or the Eaton Rapids First United Methodist Church in memory of Bob Meyers.
Esther Olive Michael
Esther Olive Michael, 89, of Whitehall died April 10, 2006.
Mrs. Michael was born September 3, 1916, in Dowagiac to Merle and Edna (Gould) Phillips. She had lived in the White Lake area since 1999.
On August 31, 1935, in South Bend, Ind. she married the former William A. Michael, who preceded her in death in 1999. With her husband, she was co-owner and operator of the Gambles Store in Bellevue for 17 years. A member of Montague United Methodist Church, Michael belonged to the Bellevue Historical Society and was an honorary member of the Bellevue 20th Century Club.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
She is survived by son, John (Kay) Michael of Montague; three grandchildren, Arthur (Lori) Michael of White Cloud; Susan (Pat) Conroy of Montague and Sharon (Rick) Sobers of New Era and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial celebration will be held at Bellevue United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 22 at 1 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Virginia Heller.
Lunch will follow the service.

Benjamin A. Miller
Benjamin Alan Miller, 26, was born Aug. 5, 1979 at St. Lawrence Hospital in Lansing. He died on July 2.
He lived most of his life in Charlotte, graduating from Charlotte High School in 1997. Ben enlisted in the Air Force, serving four years. He served during the war in Iraq in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. He was currently attending LCC with plans to teach high school English. Ben, a self-described iconoclast, was able to give his humor and charm to so many who will never forget him.
Ben is survived by his loving parents, James and Martha; sisters, Mary (Ron) Strobel, Christine, Laura (Greg) Bulson; brothers; Jim (Pam) Miller, Mark (Tina) Miller and Scott Miller; and special friend Nadiyah Ameen and her daughter, who he loved as his own. He also will be missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 6 at Peace Lutheran Church with Chaplain John Burow officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans.

Ruth M. Miller
Ruth M. Miller, 92, of Charlotte, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006. Mrs. Miller was born Dec. 19, 1913 in Flint the daughter of Lewis and Ida (DeLaurier) Morrison and had been a Charlotte resident since 1989 coming from Farmington.
She was a 1932 graduate of Detroit Cooley High School and was a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs and the Charlotte Business Women's Guild. She was a member of the First Congregational Church UCC and its Blanche Moyer Circle and she enjoyed traveling.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin G. Miller in 1987.
Surviving are her three sons, Edwin (Mary) Miller of Rochester Hills, Richard Miller of Pontiac and Robert (Connie) Miller of Charlotte; eight grandchildren, Christian (Cathy), Ingrid (John) Harbaugh, Erika (Joe) Werner, Kim (Jeff) Diskin, Greg Miller, Jennifer (Duane) Huff, Sandra (E.J.) Dymowski and Sarah Collick; ten great-grandchildren; and one brother, Richard Morrison of Florida.
Funeral services were held Aug. 23 at the First Congregational Church UCC with Rev. Philip Hobson officiating. Memorial contributions are suggested to the House of Ruth, 716 Pleasant St., Charlotte, MI 48813. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Anabel P. Mix
Anabel P. Mix, 87, of Atlanta, Ga. died Friday, July 14, 2006. She was born in Potterville to George and Ivy Lamphere.
Mrs. Mix lived for 40 years in Tampa, Fla. prior to moving to Georgia in 2001 to be near her children. She was a homemaker and a life member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, Lyle G. Mix Sr. of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons, four grandsons and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held in Atlanta, Ga.. Burial will be in Potterville.
Forest W. Monroe
Forest Wayne Monroe, 63, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006 surrounded by his family. Mr. Monroe was born July 28, 1943 in Pennsylvania. He was the son of Claude and Dorothy Monroe.
Forest served in the United States Navy from 1962-1966. He was employed for 24 years at the MSU Power Plant and retired in April 2006. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; four children, Lee (Kristina) Meeker, James (Dena) Meeker, Amanda (Scott) Monroe and Bethany Monroe; eight grandchildren, Lindsey, Teanne, Chelsea, Alyssa, Olivia, Nathan, Dylan and his little buddy, Oscar.
At Forest's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no services. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, MI.
