Bessie M. Morales
Bessie Marie Morales, 81, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006. Mrs. Morales was born Jan. 9, 1925 in Millerburg Township, the daughter of Cleve and Venus (Towe) Harmon.
Mrs. Morales was employed in the cafeteria at Hayes Green Beach Hospital. She enjoyed camping in Kalkaska and cooking for the family, she always had a dessert to round out the meal. Mrs. Morales was a wonderful mother and grandparent who always made it a point to know how her children were doing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Luterio in 1986. She is survived by her daughters, Gloria (Ben) Dees of Chicago and Jeannette (Joe) Boyer of Sunfield; sons, Phillip Morales of Charlotte, Billy (Nancy) Morales of Battle Creek, John (Connie) Morales of Olivet, Gary (Kathy) Morales of Charlotte, Terry (Marietta) Morales of Charlotte, Rick (Bonnie) Morales of Charlotte and Rodney Morales of Charlotte; 27 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Marie) Harmon of Charlotte; and sister, Martha (Wayne) Frey of Charlotte.
Funeral services were Nov. 11 at 1 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home with Reverend Rick Martin officiating. Interment was at Maplehill Cemetery in Charlotte. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice. Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Egbert J. ‘Bob’ Morrison
Egbert J. “Bob” Morrison, 81, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2006.
Mr. Morrison was born May 16, 1924 in Pennfield, the son of John and Jennie (Nettleton) Morrison. He was a maintenance man for Colonial Village apartments in Olivet. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post 225 and served our country in World War II. Mr. Morrison enjoyed the outdoors in many ways - he was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed numerous family camping trips. He loved spending time in his gardens at home, painting pictures, and was a member of West Carmel Congregational Church.
He is survived by: his wife, Ellen; son, Gary (Jean) Morrison of Charlotte; daughter, Marilyn (Ernie) Baker of Charlotte; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Young of Springport; sister, Claudia Smith of Quincy; sister, Janice Barnett of Bellevue; brother, Francis Morrison of Lansing; brother, Roger Morrison of Saginaw; sister, Sandra Smith of Coldwater; and sister, Carol Sue Morrison of Albion.
He was preceded in death by: a son, Robert Morrison; sister, Jeanette Gruhl; brother, Harry Morrison; and brother, Ernie Morrison.
Funeral services were held Feb. 4 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Darwin Kuhl officiating. Interment was at Deepdale Memorial Garden Cemetery in Lansing.
Memorial contributions may be made to West Carmel Congregational Church or the American Lung Association of Michigan.
Cora Isabelle “Izzy” Moyers
Cora Isabelle “Izzy” died Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at her residence with her family by her bedside. She was born May 4, 1907 in Hastings, MI the daughter of Reuben and Elfie (Crawley) Crites Sr. Izzy was retired Postmaster for the Onondaga Community with over 30 years of service. She was a member of the Eastern Star of Onondaga/Mason and a member of the Knowledge Seeker Club of Onondaga. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter “Pete” Moyers; infant daughter, Shirley Ann Glover; daughter Billie Lee Foote; and sons-in-law, Lawerence Doyle and Richard Jarvis.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Wanda Jarvis of Imperial Beach, CA and Wilma Jean Doyle of Leslie; son-in-law, Donald Foote of Onondaga; 9 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald (Maxine) Crites of Kalamazoo and Clarabelle Barnard of Mason; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 15 from Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. William Mueller officiating. Burial followed in the Onondaga cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Onondaga Community Church Building Fund or the Great Lakes Hospice in memory of Izzy Moyers.
Janet E. Murray
Janet E. Murray of Eaton Rapids, age 62, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2006 in Charlotte. Janet was born October 14, 1943 in Charlotte, MI, the daughter of James and Josephine (DeFrates) Montross. She was an Eaton Rapids Public School Bus driver for 27 years, retiring in 2001. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, snowmobiling and fishing. Janet was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Jim, Jerry and Billie Montross.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Claude “Skip” Murray, Jr. of Eaton Rapids; 2 daughters, Michelle (Ken) Brochu of Commerce, MI, and Rene, (Todd See) Nobert of Jackson; 3 grandchildren, Lindsey & Brendon Brochu, Ashley Norbert; father-in-law, Claude H. Murray, Sr. of Eaton Rapids; brothers-in-law, Raymond (Janet) Murray of Dimondale, Ralph (Kathy) Murray of Eaton Rapids, Thomas (Phyllis) Murray of Grand Ledge; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 1, 2006 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids. The interment followed at Dimondale Cemetery. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Eaton Community Hospice or American Cancer Society in memory of Janet Murray. .
Phyllis E. Myckowiak
Phyllis Elaine Myckowaik, 81, of Charlotte, died Sunday, March 26, 2006. Mrs. Myckowiak was born June 12, 1924, in Sturgis, the daughter of Roy Sowers and Echo Miller.
She has served her communities in many different ways.
She was the past president for the Faculty Wives for the Grand Rapids Public Schools. She was secretary for the First United Methodist Church in Battle Creek. She retired in 1985, after 10 years of service. She was also the former executive secretary of Northside Manor in Battle Creek.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Anthony Myckowiak, her son, Scott (Barbara) Myckowiak of Charlotte, and her daughter, Holly Jane (Dennis) Mortlock of Indianapolis, IN and three grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by three brothers, Don, Jack and Dale Sowers.
Memorial services were March 29 at First United Methodist Church, Battle Creek, with Pasto William Myer Jr. and Pastor Todd Bruning officiating. Interment was in Vergennes Cemetery, Battle Creek.

Troy Douglas Nealey
Troy Douglas Nealey, of Eaton Rapids, age 24, was killed in the line of duty during Operation Iraqi Freedom, on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006.
Troy was born July 15, 1982 in Wheat Ridge, CO, the son of Norman and Annette (Squires) Nealey. He grew up in Grand Ledge and Eaton Rapids, graduating from Eaton Rapids High School in 2001. Troy was active in Ingham County 4-H, played soccer in school and ran track as the anchor on his relay team. Prior to entering the Military Service, he worked as an electrician and for area farmers. Troy had been in Iraq for one month, attached to the Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 24th Marines, Lansing, MI and he was very proud of being a Marine and serving his country. Troy loved Mountain Dew, Ford trucks, country music, Bud Light longnecks, he lived to be on the farm with the animals or in the fields; he understood the meaning of “Cowboy Up,” loved rodeos, and his favorite foods were ramen noodles and crab legs. Troy cared so much for his brothers, admired his dad, and was proud of his mom. He was happiest with the simple things in life, but lived really big dreams.

He is survived by his parents, Norman and Annette Nealey of Eaton Rapids; two brothers, Todd and Michael Nealey, both of Eaton Rapids; grandmothers, Barbara Rogers of Eaton Rapids, Lois Nealey of Lansing; aunts and uncles, Mark and Priscilla Rogers of Eaton Rapids, Roy and Gwen Rogers, Russell and Shannon Rogers, Maurica Brown all of Charlotte, Marcia and Brian Kemper of Eaton Rapids, Ralph Squires of Wyoming, Cathy and Harold Wuerfel of Rockford, Neal and Teann Rogers of Enning, SD, Noel Rogers of Eaton Rapids, Nola and Mark Auernhamer of Newfane, NY, Robert Squires of Grandview, Tenn., Sally and Johnny Whaley of Cullman, AL, Kenneth and Ruth Nealey of Lansing, Douglas and Loretta Nealey of Centerville, Ohio, David and Melissa Nealey of Scottsdale, Ariz., Kathryn and Tom Spurlock of Downingtown, Penn., Penny and Tony Dolata of Maricopa, Ariz., Peter and Sharon Hubley of Washington, DC, Paul Hubley of Phoenix, Ariz., Rocky and Leigh Tyler of Eaton Rapids; special friend, Lauren Wood of Mason, and oodles of cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 11, 2006 at the Eaton Rapids High School Gym with Rev. Scott Boles officiating. Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. The family will receive friends and family on Thursday, November 9, from 7-9 p.m. and Friday, November 10, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids. Rhoda Mae Nelson
Rhoda Mae (Kirk) Nelson, 88, formerly of South Bend Ind., died Monday, Dec. 4, 2006 in Lansing. Rhoda was born May 6, 1918 in Exira, Iowa to Chris and Anna (Johnson) Kirk.
She is survived by three daughters, Lynn Nickless of Charlotte, Dianne Porter of Lake Worth, Fla., and Barbara S. (Susie) DeHart of Carmel, Ind., five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Mildred M. Feldbauer.

James M. Nielsen
James M. Nielsen, 58, of Charlotte died Saturday, June 24, 2006. Mr. Nielsen was born Jan. 27, 1948, the son of Vernon and Erma (Cecil) Nielsen.
James was employed as a corrections officer at Jackson Prison and was a member of Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church. He very much enjoyed the outdoors, including the family cottage in Kalkaska where he enjoyed canoeing, kayaking, walking in the woods in the summer and skiing in the winter. Jim loved his family passionately and was always there to do a favor for friends or family. His sense of humor, common sense and compassion for others were counted on by all.
Jim was an exceptional photographer, taking many photos of his kids and family in every big and small event in their lives. He also took pictures of every child on every team or at any event his children were in and gave those photos to them. Jim's children played soccer and many other sports, and Jim volunteered as a soccer coach, Charlotte AYSO board member and referee, Boy Scout leader and he and Deb were foster parents for many years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon.
He will be deeply missed by Debbie, his wife of 22 years; children, Linda McCulloch, Bonnie (Eric) Betz, Joseph Nielsen, Leah Nielsen, Jay Nielsen and Jessica Nielsen; brothers and sisters, Roger (Marlene) Nielsen, Ron (June) Nielsen and Sharon (Eric) Dhanak; granddaughter, Chelsea and grandsons, Brandon, Jordan, David and Lucas.
Funeral services were held June 28 at Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Taylor officiating. Interment was at West Carmel Cemetery in Charlotte.

Lorraine J. Nieman
Lorraine J. Nieman, 85, of Charlotte, died Friday, March 10, 2006 in Lansing.
Mrs. Nieman was born Aug. 5, 1920, the daughter of August and Teckla Swanson. She was a member of the Peacock Center Seniors Club and she enjoyed volunteering in the kitchen. Lorraine enjoyed bingo, shopping and sewing.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald Nieman, as well as friends and extended family members.
Funeral services were held March 15 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating. Interment was at West Carmel Cemetery in Charlotte.
