Karen Ann Nobach
Karen Ann Nobach of Eaton Rapids, age 48, beloved wife, mother, nana, daughter, sister, niece, cousin and friend went to be with the Lord after a hard battle with lung cancer on Monday, June 19, 2006 in Columbia, South Carolina. Karen had a fiery soul and a ton of spunk which could be seen by her many nights tearing up the dance floor while enjoying the music talents of her daughter, Jessie. Karen graduated from Leslie High School in 1976 with honors. She went on to spend over 35 years serving others in various jobs. Karen was a people person and loved chatting with her customers, often making lasting relationships. She was an avid euchre player and loved a good game of scrabble. She enjoyed her family and would love to watch her family, especially the grandkids playing sports. She loved spoiling her grandkids and at holiday time, that was Nana’s time. She was preceded in death by her father Floyd Engle; grandparents, Wardie and Mallie Miller; step-father, Hank Norment; cousins, Michael and Bobby Miller.
She leaves behind, Jerry Cooper; best friend, Randy Nobach; 4 children, Amy (Jason) Shank, Eric Pomeroy, Jessica (Steven) Gehringer and William Nobach; 6 grandchildren; mother, Zelma Norment; sisters, Linda, Bonnie (Steve) and Pam (Ken) Burgen; countless aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 23, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with burial following in the Oakwood Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. For those desiring memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of Randy Nobach.
Ruth A. Novak
Ruth Ann Novak, 77, of Charlotte passed away Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006. Mrs. Novak was born December 2, 1928, in Hendersen, Ark. the daughter of Lige and Dovie Smith.
Mrs. Novak was a homemaker who helped with the farm work, loved to sew and work in her flowers. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed making "kolachi" (a prune danish) pastry.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; sons, Bruce (Janine) Novak of Brighton and Mark Novak of Charlotte; and her sister Wanda (Ardell) Andersen of Springfield, Mo.
Funeral services were held Aug. 12 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Rich Mitterling officiating. Interment followed at Gresham Cemetery.

Rebecca A. Olcott
Rebecca “Becky” Ann Olcott, 58, of Charlotte, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2006 at Eaton Community Hospice House.
Mrs. Olcott was born Jan. 12, 1948 in Jackson, the daughter of Thomas and Wanda (Gibson) Sanford. Becky worked for 20 years as a shipping and receiving clerk for Fasco D.C. Motors in Eaton Rapids until her retirement. She was a devoted mother to her child and step-children, enjoyed bowling and playing softball, going to tractor pulls and stock car races, reading mysteries, crocheting, sewing and baking.
She is survived by: her husband, Michael Olcott; son, Robert T. Adams of Springport; step-son, Benjamin Olcott of Indianapolis, Ind.; step-daughter, Amber Olcott of Charlotte; mother, Wanda Rodgers of Rives Junction; and sisters, Deena Bowers of Tennessee and Bonnie Haldeman of Wayland.
She was preceded in death by: a son, Ronnie; father, Thomas Cullen Sanford; and a brother, Thomas Richard Sanford.
Funeral services were held Feb. 28 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Kenneth Karlzen officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice.
Margaret E. Olmsted
Margaret Elizabeth Olmsted passed away Feb. 9, 2006. Margaret was born Dec. 30, 1914 in Charlotte and was a 30-year Leelanau County resident. The daughter of Orrin Edward and Goldie (Mitchell) Packard, Margaret was raised in Charlotte and retired to the north shore of Little Traverse Lake in 1975.
A graduate of Charlotte High School, Margaret attended St. Mary-of-the-Woods College and graduated in 1935 from Olivet College, where she was a member of the Soronian, the oldest collegiate sorority in the United States. She worked in the emerging field of radiology in Chicago, and later in Charlotte until she retired in 1962. She was an avid bridge player with Masters Points. Margaret served as treasurer of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Charlotte for nine years. She was also active in the Little Traverse Lake Property Owners Association, serving as treasurer for several years.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, D. Bruce Carr. She married Arthur J. Olmsted in 1962 and celebrated 38 years of marriage before his death in 2000.
She is survived by: five children, Donald Carr (Polly Webb) of Bradenton, Fla., Charles Carr (Mary Jo) of Schaumburg, Ill., Sara Gedda (John) of Rochester Hills, Craig Olmsted (Karen) of Charlotte, and Roger Olmsted of Suttons Bay; brother, Ted Packard of Charlotte; sister-in-law, Marguerite Cronkright of Port Richey, Fla.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and special friend and companion, Nancy Groesser of Cedar.
A memorial service will be held May 13 at the United Methodist Church in Leland, followed by interment at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.

Leota Elaine (Zenker) Olney
Leota E. (Zenker) Olney of Onondaga, Michigan, age 76, passed away suddenly at home Friday, May 12, 2006. Leota was born June 27, 1929 in Lansing, Michigan to Ernest “Buck” and Carol Zenker. She married the love of her life Glen Olney Jr. in November of 1946 and they were happily married for 49 years. Leota was an accomplished artist and crafter whose gifts touched the lives of many. She was preceded in death by her husband Glen; father, Buck; sister Marilyn and brother, Larry.
Leota was a devoted mother of 5, Tim (Ruth) Olney of Leslie, Elaine (Ben) Thompson of Eaton Rapids, Larry (Sue) Olney of Morenci, Ted (Tina) Olney of Jackson and Bonnie (Mark) Shaffer of Holt; a proud grandmother of 10 granddaughters and 4 grandsons, Carolle Hicks, Staci Hicks, Leslie Cooper, Tami Vaughn, April Polly, Kari Olney, Heather Pockington, Heidi Shaffer, Ashley Swetland, Katelyn Swetland, Dennis Travioli, Tommy Travioli, Danny Newsom and Timmy Newsom; and took great joy in her 23 great-grandchildren; her mother, of 93 years, Carol Wilson of Atlanta; 2 sisters, Barbara Jean Zenker and Luanne Berryhill both of Atlanta and Patricia Reynolds of Durand; sister-in-law, Catherine Zenker; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be today at 1:00 p.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Rev. Frank Klassen, officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may go to the family.
Lorraine V. Olson
Lorraine V. Olson, 86, formerly of Charlotte, passed away Friday, Nov. 3, 2006 in Escanaba.
Lorraine was employed at Hayes Green Beach Hospital for nearly 20 years. She started as a nurse's aide and was later promoted to unit clerk.
She is survived by her daughters, Lynne Olson of Lansing and Nancy Olson of Jacksonville, Fla.; son, Richard (Lori) Olson of Olivet; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Nov. 11 at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial took place in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
Danny L. Orr
Danny L. Orr of Eaton Rapids, age 72, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 10, 2006. He was born December 30, 1933 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Daryl and Arlene Orr. Danny graduated from Eaton Rapids Public Schools in the class of 1953. He retired in 1988 after serving 32 years as a corrections officer at the State Prison of Southern Michigan. Danny was a life member of the Masonic Lodge and served in the Michigan National Guard as a member of the 119th Field Artillery Battalion. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan in 1981 and daughter, Dona Jolly in 1998.
He is survived by his 3 daughters, Tonya Kirby of Eaton Rapids, Pam Derby of Mason and Tina Jolly of Littleton, CO; a son, Russell Jolly of Eaton Rapids; sister Elaine (Steve) Skoczylas of St. Johns; brother, Carl (Jeanne) Orr of Eaton Rapids; 6 grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 14, 2006 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids. A Masonic service was held on Thursday evening. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to Eaton Community Hospice in memory of Danny Orr.
Marilyn Ann Otto
Marilyn Ann Otto, 58, of Bellevue died April 5, 2006 at Select Specialty Hospital in Battle Creek. She was born Feb. 6, 1948 to Charles E. and Elaine M. (Hickey) Scott in Battle Creek.
Marilyn worked as a bartender and waitress at several Bellevue and Battle Creek restaurants. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Randy Hasselquist in 1978; her mother in 1994 and one grandson.
She is survived by sons, Mark J. Hess of Bellevue, Dan E. (Shannon) Otto of Olivet. and Corey A. Thomson of Bellevue; daughter, Jolene M. Hess of Bellevue; five grandchildren; her father, Charles Scott of Bellevue; sister, Patti (Greg) Woods of Battle Creek, brother, Jeff (Tina) Scott of Bellevue and first husband, James Hess from whom she was divorced. Marilyn enjoyed cooking, gardening, hunting, fishing shopping, the holidays and spending time with her grandchildren.
Graveside services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 10 at Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue. Memorial donations may go to the family. The family is being served by Shaw funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
Steven L. Overholtz
Steven L. Overholtz, 55, of Charlotte, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2006. Mr. Overholtz was born Sept. 23, 1951 in Lansing, the son of Andrew and Eleanor (Hidecker) Overholtz.
Mr. Overholtz was employed by the General Motors Corporation. He belonged to the UAW, enjoyed golfing and being with his family. Mr. Overholtz was especially proud of his grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughters, Kelley (Andy) Hazel of Charlotte and Carrie (Art) Williams of Charlotte; sons, Andrew (Arianne) Overholtz of Lansing and Aaron Overholtz of Charlotte; grandchildren, Sam Hazel, Dakota Williams, Haley Overholtz, Mykaela Williams, Charlie Hazel, Savanna Overholtz, Brooklyn Williams, Jacob Hazel, Carter Overholtz and Olivia Hazel.
Funeral services were held Dec. 21 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Booth officiating. Interment was at the Sunfield Cemetery in Sunfield. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
