Charles “Chuck” Francis Pittington
Charles “Chuck” Francis Pittington, of Eaton Rapids, age 53, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006 after a week-long courageous fight stemming from complications of heart surgery. Charles was born June 10, 1953 in Los Angeles, Calif. and adopted by Calvin and Norma Pittington. He was a 1972 graduate of Alpena High School, a member of the Charlotte Council 11875 Knights of Columbus and a very active member of AA. Chuck worked for Dennis Trailer Sales of Lansing for the past seven years, and, prior to this, worked for several dealerships in the Greater Lansing and surrounding area for 20+ years. He enjoyed camping, landscaping, the great outdoors, NASCAR and spending quality time with friends and family, especially Theresa and Quinn. Chuck was a very happy free spirit who touched many and will be deeply missed by all.
He is survived by his wife and soul mate of 11 years, Theresa Nault; two daughters, Piper Jo (Aaron) Santini of Oklahoma City, OK and Ashley Marie Smolinski of Rogers City; mother and father-in-law, Susan and Terry Nault; sister-in-law, Tammy Macut; brothers-in-law, Todd (Michelle) Nault, Tony (Dee Dee) Nault, Troy Nault, William (Donna) Paul; 11 nieces and nephews, Nichole, Austin, Devin, Kristin, Korwin, Kamron, Taylor, Brittany, Hayden, Chase and Sydney; many friends and his best friend, Quinn.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Charlotte. The family will receive friends on today and Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids.

George Podany
George Podany, 87, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Dec., 21, 2006 at the Eaton Community Hospice House in Charlotte. George was born in Holdingsford, Minn. on March 29, 1919 to Pantalimon Podany and Anna Jedeniak Podany.
He was the seventh of 11 children. George served in the Army Air Corps as a medic in World War II in North Africa and Italy. He married Lois Peterson June 14, 1945. He graduated from St. Cloud State University with a degree in industrial arts and moved to Onekema to teach in 1947. In 1948 they settled in Flint, where George taught industrial arts, drafting and typing at Emerson Junior High School. He also taught in the typing and industrial arts in the community education program. Eventually he became an administrator for Flint Schools.
He was past president of the Michigan Industrial Education Association. He was also past president of the Flint Breakfast Optimist Club. He worked in Flint Schools until 1967, at which time he took a job with the State of Michigan as Supervisor of Veterans Education in Vocational Schools. He retired from the State in 1979. He then devoted his time to volunteering in the schools, first in Lakeland, Fla. and then in Charlotte at Weymouth Elementary and Galewood Elementary, where he assisted with spelling and math and gave special attention to those who needed extra help. He loved children and was known by many children as "grandpa George."
His hobbies were woodworking, gardening, fishing, joke telling, counted cross-stitch, making doll houses and doll furniture and writing poetry. The single word that describes George is "teacher." He helped many, often without a thought for himself. He always sought to leave things better than he found them.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Lois (Peterson) Podany; daughter, Nancy (David) Tucker, P.hD. of Grand Blanc; two sons, Gerald E. (Nanette) Podany of Charlotte and George R. (Penny) Podany of Dimondale; four grandchildren, Matthew (Margaret Lloyd) Tucker, Jeremy (Wendy) Podany, Kate (Don Jamison) Podany and Michelle Hipshire; two great-grandchildren, Maeve Tucker and Adrienne Elizabeth Podany; sister, Mary Dennis; and brother, Peter Podany, both of Minneapolis, Minn.
Funeral services were held Dec. 23 at Lawrence Ave. United Methodist Church with Rev. Karen Wheat officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Eaton Community Hospice or the Charlotte Public Schools.

Doris A. (Courtright) Pombier
Doris Ann (Courtright) Pombier, of Springport, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006 after a long illness.
She was born Feb. 26, 1935 in Marshall. She married Dennis Louis Pombier Sr. on Feb. 29, 1952; he survives. Doris lived in Springport for more than 40 years. Her six children graduated from Springport schools and now some of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren attend there, too.
Surviving are: her husband, Dennis Pombier; five children, Denny (Teresa) Pombier Jr., Judy (Luke) Kirk, Sue (Ron) Otey, Bob Pombier, Gary Pombier; 17 grandchildren, Tanya (Danny) Neil, Denny (Stacy) Pombier, Mandi Nelson, Jeremy Martinez, Jessica (Bruce) Gray, Kelly (Bob) Hale, Annie Snyder, Mike (Tasha) Nelson, Ben Kirk, Burdette Pombier, Jason (Angela) Martinez, Krista (Derek) Lovely, Travis Pombier, Danielle Pombier, Whitney Pombier, Zach Pombier and Sierra Pombier; 15 great-grandchildren, who knew her as “GG” (Great-Grandma); four siblings, Dick (Doris) Courtright, Florence Watson, Julie Collins and Charles Perry; brothers-in-law, Larry (Mary) Pombier, Joe Pombier and Jim (Margaret) Pombier; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Burdette, in 1988; parents, Owen Courtright and Elenore Perry; siblings, Ray Courtright, Bill Courtright, Fran Faurot; and in-laws, Coy Younglove, Nancy Church, Rosemary Zavatasky, Burdette Pombier, Cliff Pombier, Wetah Pombier and Lou Pombier.
A memorial service was held March 4, with Pastor Jack Fugate officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Great Lakes Hospice of Jackson or the Springport Fire and Rescue Squad, both of which were instrumental in Doris’ final days. Arrangements were by J.C. Adams Funeral Home, Springport Chapel.
Clayton E. Powers
Clayton Eugene Powers, 74, of Nashville, died Sept. 18, 2006. Mr. Powers was born Sept. 17, 1932 in Eaton County, the son of Newton and Doris (Wright) Powers.
Mr. Powers worked at Oliver's in Battle Creek, for the City of Nashville and at the Lake Odessa canning factory. He was a VFW honorary member through his wife's auxiliary membership. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the great outdoors. Mr. Powers loved kids and was liked by many.
He was preceded in death by his wife Pearl (Kinney) Powers in 1990.
He is survived by his sister Betty (Charles) Crabtree of Charlotte; brother Richard Powers of Irons and friend Elizabeth Fletcher.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 22 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with Chuck Jenson officiating with interment at Lakeview Cemetery in Nashville. Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Lynn A. Priesman
Lynn Allen Priesman, of Charlotte, Michigan, passed away Monday, April 24, 2006. Mr. Priesman was born November 6, 1947 in Charlotte, Michigan, the son of Neal and Leah Priesman. Lynn was a Master Electrician who worked as a repairman for Spartan Motors. He was a member of the American Legion and loved gardening. Mr. Priesman ws proud of his grandchildren, had a good sense of humor and ws known as “Layback”.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane in 2003 and parents Neal in 2002 and Leah in 2001.
He is survived by; daughter, Rachel (George) Shook of Olivet; 4 grandchildren, Joshua Shook, Cameron Shook, Brennon Shook, and Avery Thomas; sisters, Suzanne (Richard) Wells of Pickford, Angela (Mitchell) Tanksley of Charlotte; brothers, Rodney Priesman of Hawaii Gary Priesman of Hastings and Jack Priesman of Charlotte.
Frank Pruden
Frank Pruden, 64 of Dowling, formerly of Charlotte, died Friday, March 17, 2006 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Pruden was born April 1, 1941 in Eaton County, Windsor Township, the son of Henry and Clara (Brandt) Pruden. He was a master steam fitter at General Motors until his retirement in 1995 and was instrumental in building a steam tool for them. He built their house on Clear Lake in Dowling and also helped to build the Country Fever Dance Ranch in Assyria, where he and Claire spent many hours dancing. In fact, Frank had a sign in his shop that said, “If I can’t fix it, you don’t need it!” Frank was a very giving man and liked to do repairs for anyone who needed his help. Other interests included working in his wood shop, fishing, golf and bowling, but his greatest enjoyment was his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by; his wife of 45 years, Claire (Potter) Pruden; children, Scott (Carol) Pruden, Lori (Ken) Kleinfelt, and Eric (Trisha) Pruden, all of Charlotte; nine grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Lorraine of Lansing; brothers, Sam (Arlene) Pruden of Connecticut, Jim (Pat) Pruden of Texas and Ed Pruden of Rockford.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; a brother, Bob; and a sister, LuAnn.
Funeral services were held March 21 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with John Hoyt officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Barry Eaton Hospice.
Oral L. Pruden
Oral Leora Pruden, 86, of Charlotte, died Saturday, June 17, 2006. Mrs. Pruden was born June 9, 1920, in Grass Lake, moving to Charlotte with her family in 1932.
Oral was an active member of Charlotte Jaycee's and was chosen Jaycee's State Mother of the Year in the late 1950's. She was a familiar face to many, retiring from Carl Rochester's State Farm Insurance Agency, after 28 years of service. Mrs. Pruden was a member of the First Baptist Church in Charlotte. She loved to travel, always having her bag packed for the next adventure, and treasured her family, friends, and church. She loved to meet new people, and was a friend to many.
She was preceded in death by granddaughter Trina, and two brothers Leon Wood and Lewis Wood, sister Phyllis Richardson.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years Jack; Carolyn "Cal" (Philip) Cumberworth, of Eaton Rapids; Jackwyn (Lloyd) Johnson of Bluffton, Ind.; Gary (Sue) Pruden of Charlotte; and Roxanne (Larry) Walker of Charlotte; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Jenny Eno of Charlotte, Joanne Jones (Barton) of Charlotte, Felenice Miller of Charlotte, Noveda Jones of Charlotte.
Funeral services were held June 20 at First Baptist Church of Charlotte with Pastor Robin Crouch officiating. Interment followed at Maple Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Charlotte, for the Family Life Center.

Susan Anne Putman
Susan Anne Putman of Eaton Rapids, age 53, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2006 in Lansing. Sue was born January 17, 1953 in Lansing, MI, the daughter of Allen Eugene and Emma Ardella (Kikendall) Byron. She has lived her entire life in the Eaton Rapids area and was a waitress in the Eaton Rapids restaurants.
Prededed in death by her husband, James, in 1996 and brother, Richard Byron, Susan is survived by her two sons, Christopher Putman of Holt and Jim Putman of Eaton Rapids; 1 grandchild, Rachel Ray Putman; 3 brothers, Ray Byron of Blanchard, Mike Byron of Lansing, and Floyd (Lisa) Byron of Eaton Rapids.
Memorial services will b held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 18, 2006 at the Olivet First Assembly Church, Olivet, with Pastor Douglas Hammond officiating.
