Gertrude E. Robertson
Gertrude E. Robertson, 94, of Dimondale, died Friday, March 17, 2006.
Mrs. Robertson was born Nov. 18, 1911 in Creston, British Columbia, Canada, the daughter of Robert and Mary (Hughes) Boadway. Mrs. Robertson was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening and had a profound love of nature.
She is survived by; daughter Vera (Michael) Willard of Greenville; son, Robert (Isobel) Robertson of Novi; daughter, Patricia (Richard) Lavolette of Dimondale; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and four sisters.
Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Leona F. Robinson
Leona F. "Brownie" Robinson, 91, of Charlotte died Saturday, July 29, 2006. Mrs. Robinson was born June 10, 1915, in Danvers, Mass., the daughter of Arthur and Ruth (Frye) Brown.
After her mother's death when she was eight years old she became the "mother" of the family to her brother and sister. She was educated as a nurse and worked in a Peabody, Mass. hospital until moving to Charlotte in 1943. She worked at Hayes Green Beach Hospital for 23 years assisting at many births. She then worked at Eaton County Medical Care Facility as a nursing supervisor and also a social worker, after becoming licensed, until she retired in 1978. She loved children, and though she had none of her own she enjoyed teaching and singing with the children at her church on Sabbath and also helping at the church school. She loved her pet poodles, enjoyed crocheting and giving afghans to friends.
She had been returning from helping at the church school on May 2 when she was involved in a car accident. After months of treatments and complications she passed peacefully away while church family friends were singing to her.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Robinson in 1977; her brother, Courtney, and sister, Barbara.
Funeral services were held Aug. 1 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Pastors Olin Thomas and Nickey Nickless officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. Memorial contributions may be made to the Charlotte Seventh-day Adventist Church School and Eaton Community Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Gloria J. Roe
Gloria Jeanne Roe, 63, of Charlotte died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006. Mrs. Roe was born Oct. 16, 1942 in Thelma, the daughter of John Wayne and Mary Grace (Meeker) Brown.
She enjoyed her grandchildren and knitting.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Marvin Brown; sister, Connie Porteos; half-brother, Bill Thorington; and a grandson Joshua Roe.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Roe of Perry; son, Mike (Lisa) Roe of Albion; daughter, Ruth (Rob) Willadson of Charlotte; son, Daniel (Angie) Roe of Olivet; son, Mark Roe of Jackson; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brother, Scott (Juanita) Brown; sisters, Wilda (Jim) Giffin and Cathy.
Funeral Services were held Oct.16 at the South Cochran Church of God with Pastor Perry Purcell officiating. Interment was at Benton Twp. Cemetery.

Durwood H. Rogers
Durwood H. Rogers, 90, of Charlotte died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006. Mr. Rogers was born June 2, 1916 in Eaton County, the son of Myron and Lois (Garber) Rogers.
Mr. Rogers was a lifetime resident of Chester Township and enjoyed 30 years at the second home he built at Deer Lake in the Harrison area. He was a township trustee for many years and a life long member of the VFW Post #2406. Mr. Rogers was a 1934 graduate from Vermontville High School and then joined his father at the Gresham Store where he ran a grocery truck door to door. After serving his country in World War II, he joined his father in the construction business and was so proud of his nephew, Mike Dickinson, who he trained and worked with until his retirement in 1981.
He was a perfectionist who took great pride and joy in his work, his yard and his garden. Durwood was a soft-spoken gentleman who was loved and respected by all.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Forrest Rogers; sisters, Elaine Rogers, Doris Makely-Scott and Beverly Dies.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Marilyn; one sister, Ethel Dickinson and many loving nieces and nephews including Mike Dickinson, Mary Goris and Becky Lord.
Funeral services were held Aug. 12 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with Tom Raymond officiating. Interment was at Gresham Cemetery in Charlotte. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Hayes Green Beach Hospital; Eaton Community Hospice or Maple Valley Alumni Scholarship Fund, Nashville.

Forrest Rogers
Forrest Rogers, 83, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006.
Mr. Rogers was born Oct. 9, 1922 in Chester Township, the son of Myron and Lois (Garber) Rogers. He was an active member of Gresham United Methodist Church and Eaton County Farm Bureau, a former member of the Lion’s Club, and a Carmel Township Board member for 25 years. Forrest was a farmer for 32 years, a carpenter who could turn a piece of wood into anything, a plumber and a jack-of-all-trades. He had a talent for collecting things; if you wanted it, Forrest would think for a moment and respond with “I’ve got that.” Forrest loved his family and was a devoted caretaker of the Gresham Church. Many folks remember Forrest for his warm smile and quiet conversation.
He is survived by: children, Rebecca (Mike) Lord of Charlotte, Mary (Gary) Goris of Vermontville, David (Debi) Rogers of McMillan, and Richard “Dick” (Teresa) Rogers of Charlotte; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; brother, Durwood (Marilyn) Rogers; and sisters, Doris Makely-Scott and Ethel Dickinson.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Leta Ann Rogers, in 2005; and a sister, Beverly Dies.
Funeral services were held Feb. 20 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Kathy Smith officiating. Internment was at Gresham Cemetery in Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Flower House A.F.C., Gresham United Methodist Church or Eaton Community Hospice.
Betty A. (Shiels) Rolfe
Betty A. (Shiels) Rolfe, age 80, of Eaton Rapids passed away Thursday, August 24, 2006 in Eaton Rapids. Betty was born May 21, 1926 in Grand Rapids, MI, the daughter of Walter and Beulah (Carey) Shiels. She graduated from Charlotte High School, worked at Michigan Bell during WWII and later retired from Eaton Stamping (Eaton Rapids) in 1983. Preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Dorr “Bud” Rolfe in 2002 and her brother, Jim Shiels.
Betty is survived by her children, Cindy (Terry) Smith, Trudy (Norm) Cascaddan, and Aaron (Casey) Rolfe, all of Eaton Rapids; 9 grandchildren, Jeff (Kathi) Smith, Timothy Smith, Jarrod Smith, Stacia (Clement) Beckman, Jason Comer, Josh (Jessica) Comer, Jessica (Jason Hicks) Comer, Erin & Lyndsy Rolfe; 16 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Marilyn (Arthur) Fox of Charlotte, Pat (Fred) Chapman of MO, and MaryAnn (James) Orrison of TN.

Helen R. Root
Helen R. Root, 78, of Charlotte, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006.
Mrs. Root was born Dec. 1, 1927 in Portsmouth, Ohio, the daughter of Shelby and Bessie (Copley) Cogan. Helen generously donated her time to the American Red Cross and Eaton County Meals on Wheels. She was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 2406 in Charlotte. She enjoyed large family reunions with lots of food and playing games.
She is survived by: husband, Cedric Root; children, Connie Woods of Lansing, Pamela (Paul) Grogan of Blaine, Minn., Debra (Bill) Keehne of Olivet, Donald (Chris) Root and Paul Root, both of Charlotte; siblings, Glenna (Joe) Crowe of Florida, Margie George, Karen (Donald) Petrie, Homer (Delores) Cogan and Larry (Mary) Cogan, all of Ohio; grandchildren, Michelle, Rachel, Danielle, Angela, Christy, Thomas, Kylie and Austin; great-grandson, Jordan and daughter-in-law, Karen Whaley of Kittiredge Colo.
She was preceded in death by: first husband, Donald L. Root, in August 1995; son, Doug Whaley, in 2005; grandson, Joshua Whaley; and brothers, Lowell and Ray Cogan.
Funeral services were held Feb. 8 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte. Interment was at Gresham Cemetery in Charlotte.
Leontina “Tina” M. Roscoe
Leontina “Tina” M. Roscoe, 40, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006.
Mrs. Roscoe was born Dec. 25, 1965 in Charlotte, the daughter of Joseph and Carol (Kreis) Wardell Sr.
She is survived by her parents; daughters, Andrea (Nick) Tryon of Sunfield and Kandra Swank of Charlotte; grandchild, Dominick Tryon; step-father, John Pottruff; sisters, Tracy Vandermoere, Clarissa (Brad) Morse; brother, Joseph Auton Wardell Jr.; step-brother, Jerry Pottruff; and step-sister, Bambi (Cliff) Towell and Dawn (Josh) Dodge.
Funeral services were held Jan. 15 at Pray funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Terry LaDuke officiating.
