Katie L. Tillman
Katie Lee Tillman, 91, of Marshall, Michigan, died Monday, July 24, 2006. Mrs. Tillman was born June 25, 1915 in Christmasville, Tenn., the daughter of Floyd and Clara (Garrett) Wright.
Katie was a member of the Eastern Star of Lansing.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Smith of Haslett, and 4 grandchildren.

Robert W. Titmus
Robert W. Titmus, 73, died Dec. 5, 2006 at Eaton County Medical Care facility in Charlotte. Robert was born Sept. 7, 1931 in Pinckney to Waldo and Fannie Titmus.
Robert served in the Airforce during the Korean War. He retired from IBM after 30 plus years. Robert enjoyed painting and woodworking during his retirement.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sally.
He is survived by his children, Martin, Steve, Sally (Dean) Cronkwright, Michael (Mary), Linda (Paul) French, Robert, Sherri Whitaker; 24 grandchildren; five siblings, Louis Goodwin, Ruth Smith, Jeri Logan, Dave Titmus and Sue Makela; many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Dec. 8 at Hill Funeral Home 11723 S. Saginaw St. Grand Blanc, with Pastor Mark Woodbury officiating. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Eaton County Medical Care Facility, 530 Beech St., Charlotte, MI 48813.
Genevieve E. Treadwell
Genevieve E. Treadwell, beloved sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away October 16, 2006 at Ingham Medical Center, Lansing, MI, battling a stroke, Age 83, born February 28, 1923 to Evrett and Zoa Barlond of Kalamo, MI. Genevieve graduated from Charlotte High School, Charlotte, MI. On August 16, 1940 she married Willard G. Treadwell. “Gen” worked at the home Dairy and Sears Roebuck in Charlotte and in Marshall, MI, and retired after 24 years of service from GM Fisher Body, Lansing, MI. She loved bowling, working crossword puzzles, playing cards, gardening, and spending time with her family and loved ones. Preceded in death by her husband Willard, sisters; Alberta Parr and Thelma Stadel and brother Glen Barlond.
Genevieve will be lovingly remembered by her brother Raymond (Barbara) Barlond; her children, David (Yvonne) Treadwell and Connie (Samuel) Graham; her grandchildren; Kyley (Greg) Treadwell-Smith, Darrin Treadwell, Brian Graham, Benjamin Graham, Brady (Gina) Graham and Bill (Amy) Graham; six great-grandchildren; Nicholas, Caleb, Alaina, Lilyana, Hope and Alec; many nieces and nephews; friends and special friend William Gruesbeck.
Services were held on October 20, 2006 from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Internment was at East Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Hospice, 2675 Cochran Rd., MI 48813 in memory of Genevieve E. Treadwell.
Julia Tripoli
Julia “Helen” Tripoli, 82, passed away Monday, June 27, 2006.
Tripoli was the beloved wife of the late James, dear mother of Constance (Kurt) Chubner, James and Jonathon, grandmother of Amy and Rebecca Chubner and great-grandmother of Gemma Luehlf. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Services were held at the Dearborn Chapel of the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home.
Mildred “Millie” Theresa Tropp
Mildred “Millie” Theresa Tropp of Eaton Rapids, age 85, passed away Monday, July 17, 2006 in Eaton Rapids. Millie was born April 25, 1921 in Lansing, MI, the daughter of Clarence and Theresa (Lockie) Price. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eaton Rapids and retired as a secretary with MSU. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, son Frobert and grandson, Tony Tropp.
Millie is survived by 1 daughter, Sylvia (Warren) Everett of Mikado; 2 sons, Russell C. (Carolyn) Tropp, Jr. of Holt, Gary (Judith) Tropp of Lansing; daughter in law, Rosalie Tropp of Eaton Rapids; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandsons; and sister, Barbara (Edwin) Winter of Gahanna, OH.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids with Pastor Tim Evans officiating. Interment followed at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Lansing. Marion Robert Turner
Marion Robert Turner, age 73, died Monday, June 26, in Dillon, SC, at his residence after an illness. He was the son of the late, George W. Turner and Mary A. Spots Turner. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict and was a retired textile worker. Mr. Turner was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Stewart.
He is survived by his daughter, Renea Turner of Michigan; sons, Mitchell (Tomi) Turner of Michigan and Robert (Linda) Turner of Michigan; brothers, William “Bill” Turner of Latta and Tom (Katherine) Turner of Dillon; sisters, Geneva Hayes and Thelma McGahee of Latta and Dorothy Stroud of Mullins all of South Carolina; grandchildren, Timothy Turner, Tara Turner, Samantha Klink, Ashley Thrush, Kyle Turner and Nicholas Turner; great-grandchild, Britney Richardson-Klink of Eaton Rapids.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery in South Carolina. Memorials may be made to the Veteran’s Memorial Fund.
Rexford M. “Mike” Turner
Rexford M. “Mike” Turner, age 62, of Eaton Rapids died Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at the University Hospital in Ann Arbor following a motorcycle accident he was involved in on Saturday, June 3rd in Jackson. He was born on November 23, 1943 in Charlotte the son of Rexford Guy and Leah (Galbreath) Turner. Mike was a Charlotte High School graduate, class of 1962, and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam War. Mike retired in July of 2005 from General Motors in Lansing as a Millwright with 29 years of service. A member of the U.A.W. Local #652 in Lansing, a member of the Eaton Rapids Conservation Club, the Looking Glass River Long Rifle Assn. and a motorcycle enthusiast. Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Stephen in 2003.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Debra (Robinson); 3 daughters, Shantel (Jim) LoFiego of Caledonia; Michele Turner and Paige Turner both of Eaton Rapids; 2 grandchildren, Emma Denman and Bayley LoFiego; brother, Dan (Kate) Turner of Charlotte; 2 sisters, Julia (Jim) Leslie of Dimondale and Marty (Bill) Long of Charlotte; several nieces and nephews.

Fay E. Upright
Fay Ellison Upright, 79, of Charlotte, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006 at his residence.
He was born May 9, 1926 in Chester Township to Russell and Thelma (Martin) Upright and spent his entire life in the same area. He graduated from Charlotte High School in 1943 and from W.K. Kellogg General Agriculture Short Course in 1944 from Michigan State College. He took great pride in his construction work, building and remodeling, starting with 4-H woodworking at 10 years of age and retiring at age 78. He was a perfectionist in regular and detail work and tried to encourage his 4-H club members to take that same pride in their work. He led 4-H woodworking for more than 25 years.
He enjoyed membership in Michigan Jr. Farm Bureau, Michigan Sr. Farm Bureau for 57 continuous years; Charlotte Blue Lodge 120 F & AM, where he recently received his 40-year pin; Horace Maynard Chapter 82; Leslie Council 50; Charlotte Commandery 37 K.T.; DeWitt Clinton Consistory; Saladin Shrine AANMS.; and Maple City Chapter 218 Order of the Eastern Star, of which he was a life member.
On April 24, 1949 he married Nona Mae Makley, of Vermontville, at West Benton Church. They moved into their home they built on Gresham Highway where they have resided for 56 years. Fay and Nona enjoyed many great years at their cottage on Houghton Lake with their family, fishing, swimming, taking pontoon rides, having bonfires and watching sunrises and sunsets on the lake. Fay was a friend to everyone he met and a devoted husband, loving father and special grandpa and papa to grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. He was a quiet man who smiled through the good times and the bad.
Preceding him in death were: father and mother, Russell and Thelma Upright; daughter, Christine June Upright; and father-in-law, Blake Makley.
Survivors include: wife, Nona; daughter, Debra (Gregg) Postma of Walker; son, Jim Upright and friend Holly of Eaton Rapids; five grandchildren, Heather Upright of Twin Lake, Blake (Jen) Upright of Charlotte, Kelly (Bob) Frazee of Portland, Lacie (Jake) Braman of Charlotte and Pvt. Amy Upright of Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; five great-grandchildren, Hannah Upright, Lauren Upright, Marty Frazee, Audrey Frazee and Kylea Braman; and one sister, Marilyn (Richard) Johnson. First cousins Joyce Haigh of Charlotte, Martin (Betty) Smith of Jackson, Cleone (Jim) Miller of Olivet, Nedra Coito of Charlotte and Allen Smith were like brothers and sisters to Fay, as they were raised by his family after their mother died. Numerous nieces and nephews survive.
A celebration of Fay’s life and Masonic services were held Feb. 14 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Jeff Bowman officiating.

Charles L. Urie
Charles Levi Urie, age 81, of Charlotte, passed away Friday, May 26, 2006. He was preceded in death by his son, Charles D. Urie on December 10, 2005. Mr. Urie was born June 5, 1924 in Portland Township, Ionia County, the son of William and Ella (Martin) Urie and has been a Charlotte resident since 1950. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a retired inspector at Oldsmobile Division of General Motors with 30 years of service. He was married to Majory Bryner on June 5, 1946. They would have celebrated their 60th anniversary on June 5, 2006. Surviving in addition to his wife Majory are: four children, Sharon Lilly of Charlotte, Jack (Roberta) Urie of Greeley, Co, Holly (Terry) Pentecost of Charlotte and JoAnn (Dan) Starr of Adrian; 9 grandchildren, Rob Lilly, Cheryl Worden, Jason Lilly, Nicole Kirby, Will Urie, Heidi Pentecost, Travis Pentecost, Angelica Dekker, Colter Starr and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 30 2006 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte with Rev. Karen Wheat of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church officiating. Interment was held in the Benton Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association of the American Cancer Society.
William Hugh Vallance
William Hugh Vallance, 82, of Howell died Oct. 27, 2006. Mr. Vallance was born Sept. 9, 1924, in Detroit, the son of Hugh and Margaret Vallance.
He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army in W.W.II, followed by employment as an electronics assembler at Burroughs/Unisys in 1984. Bill was a true snowbird, driving a huge 37 foot fifth wheel. He loved to travel with his favorite spots being Reed City, and Clermont, Fla. He became a member of the DisneyWorld Club, so he could visit Disney and Epcot on a regular basis. His trips included those to Mt. Rushmore, the Badlands, Washington D.C., and the Upper Peninsula. Meals and good food were a very important part of his entertainment. Bill was a meticulous, proud owner of his vehicles, capable of doing his own maintenance.
He is survived by his sons, William (Erika) of Charlotte, and Gary of Roseville; grandsons, William James Vallance and Jacob Longanbach; sister, Margaret Beretzky; first wife, Virginia Vallance, Southfield; second wife, Cecelia Zielasko, Westland; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held Nov. 2 at Sawyer-Fuller Funeral Home, Berkley, with Joseph E. Pray as facilitator.
