Douglas Walton
Douglas Scot Walton, 46, of Charlotte died Monday, Aug. 21, 2006 following a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Walton was born May 8, 1960 in Lansing the son of J. Terry (Trina) Walton of Desota, Texas and Jane Eckhardt of Mason.
Douglas graduated in 2002 from the Detroit College of Law at M.S.U., was executive vice-president of operations for Hungry Howie's Pizza and Subs as well as a private law practitioner specializing in family, juvenile and unemployment law. He was an assistant pastor for the Charlotte Community of Christ Church and was a Capital Area Special Advocate volunteer. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and scuba diving.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa; sons, James, William and Jonathon; and daughter, Sarah; his parents; brother, Phil (Rainee) Eckhardt of Mason; sisters, Susan Eckhardt of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Jolie (Dale) Miller of Claypool, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Aug. 24 at Charlotte Community of Christ Church, Charlotte with Elder Mel Crowley officiating. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice House.

Carol M. Washburn
Carol M. Washburn, 36, of Eaton Rapids, died Sunday, April 2, 2006. Ms. Washburn was born December 7, 1969 in Charlotte, the daughter of Delbert and Marilyn (Finch) Holton.
Ms. Washburn was very proud of her children, a member of Grace Baptist Church of Eaton Rapids and the Lansing Area Aids Network. She enjoyed fishing and horror movies.
She is survived by her fiancé, Timothy Engle; daughters, Penny and Nichol; sons, Ben and Nathan; brother, Henry Hann and step-mothers Julie (Archie) Hammond and Judy Preson.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Graveside service was held April 7 at West Carmel Cemetery in Charlotte with Pastor Mark Michalcewicz officiating.

Otis B. Waters
Otis Boyd Waters 78, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Thursday, January 5, 2006. Mr. Waters was born April 6, 1927, in Hominy, Oklahoma, the son of Brady and Hattie Waters. Mr. Waters was a Veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Eagles, American Legion, VFW 2406 and was a past Commander of the VFW. Mr. Water retired from Owens-Illinois. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, playing cards, gardening and helping people. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Jo (Paul) Goforth of Santa Maria, CA and Rhoda Knickerbocker of Charlotte; 3 grandchildren, Holly, Tony, and Bo; and 7 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen S. Waters, in 1987; a grandson, Victor Lee Knickerbocker; and 4 brothers. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2006, at Pray Funeral Home with his daughter and Chuck Jensen officiating. Visitation will be Sunday and Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Amer E. Watkins
Amer E. Watkins, age 74, of Eaton Rapids, MI, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2001. He was born on October 30, 1931 in Lansing to Amer Louis and Rita Winifred (McNamara). He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the United States Air Force. He retired as a Road Driver from Consolidated Freightways. Upon retirement, he pursued his love for boating. He was preceded in death by both parents and an infant granddaughter, Mandie Hovey.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley J. Watkins (Spencer) and their six children, Lisa Hovey (Harold) of Eaton Rapids, Scott Watkins of Knoxville, TN, Karin Bulger of Eaton Rapids, Todd Watkiins of Okemos, Mitch Watkins (Melinda) of Portland, MI, and Amy Collins (David) of Laingsburg, MI; in addition he had 18 grandchildren; Joshua, Melanie, Ashley, Courtney, Tori and Justin Hovey, Kristopher and Kurtis Kares, Savannah Bulger, Katie, Sarah and Holly Watkins, Scott Lighthiser, Nathan and Ryan Watkins, David, Roman and Calvin Collins.
Memorial services will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Eaton County Humane Society.
Gary B. Weinley
On May 22, 2006 Gary B. Weinley, age 63, of Bellevue, went to live with his heavenly father while in the arms of his living wife, Joyce. After struggling with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) God now has healed him from all of his suffering.
He was born Feb. 17, 1943, the son of Robert Weinley and Betty (Johnson) Coles in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He worked as a truck driver for Consumers Concrete and Road & Turf.
Gary is survived by his wife of 25 years, Joyce (Searles) Weinley. Also surviving are daughters, Shayna (Dan) Little of Angola, Indiana, Sheila Weinley of Grand Rapids; sons, Randall Weinley of South Bend, Indiana and Gary Weinley, Jr. of Bellevue; mother, Betty Coles of Lehigh Acres, Florida; sister, Bobby Weinley of Lehigh Acres, Florida; grandchildren, Samantha and Taylor Joy Little, of Angola, Janelle, Brandon and Makayla Weinley of Indiana; mother-in-law, Lillian Searles, sisters-in-law, Sharon (Gary) Conklin, Cindy (Joe) Geller; and brother-in-law, Leon Searles all of St. Johns; stepmother, Colleen Weinley of Hudson, Indiana; half-brother, Larry Weinley of Fort Wayne; step-sister, Linda Breidert of Indianapolis; special friends, Janet and Marv Miller of Goshen, Indiana; and many church friends. Gary will be greatly missed by his horse, Tilly and seven Maine Coon cats, especially Goliath.
Funeral services were held May 26, 2006 at Bellevue First Baptist Church with Pastor Don Francis officiating. Interment at Riverside Cemetery. Memorial donations may go to the family. The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
Clair E. Wellman
Clair E. Wellman, 82, of Vermontville, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006. Mr. Wellman was born in Vermontville in 1924, the son of Cecil and Bertha (Cook) Wellman.
Mr. Wellman worked in a carpenter's shop and was an employee of General Motors. He was a member of the VFW Post in Nashville and a member of the Charlotte Eagles Aries #3552. Mr. Wellman knew a lot about the history of Vermontville. He loved working in his woodworking shop making things for his grandkids.
He was preceded in death by a son, Terry Wellman, a daughter, Jo Carol (Wellman) Thomson, and brothers, Keith Wellman and Vernon "John" Wellman.
He is survived by his wife, Helen (Mix); daughters, Nancy (Hallead) Cousins, Durinda Cross and Patricia Cross; daughter-in-law, Diane Wellman; grandchildren, Brenda Glynn, Brian Cousins, Jodie Roberts, Paula June Thomson, Brandon Cross, Krista Teasdale and numerous great-grandkids; siblings, Ruby Stofflett and Donald Wellman.
Funeral services were held Oct. 10 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with Rev. Sharon Zurakowski officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Vermontville. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Nashville VFW.

Keith Wellman
Keith Wellman, 90, of Vermontville, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.
He was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 54 years, Geraldine Richard Wellman, and their three sons, Raymond, Kendal, and Gregory Wellman. One of his beloved daughter-in-laws, Patty Wellman, also preceded him.
Keith had the privilege of being married again to Martha Eleanor Buckley Wellman for five years and then to Helen Stank Marsh Wellman. Each of these lovely women also preceded him in death. Their families remained a very special part of Keith's life.
He is survived by two brothers, Clair Wellman and Donald Wellman, and a sister, Ruby Wellman Stofflet. Another brother, Vernon, preceded him in death. He also leaves a daughter, Myrna Wellman Bartlett and her husband Ed, of Midland; two daughters-in-law, Luvern Wellman of Portland and Linda Wellman. He had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a few great-great-grandchildren.
Keith was born in Vermontville and lived most of his life in the surrounding area. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps after graduating early from Vermontville High School. Throughout his life, Keith was known for a curious mind and was always trying to perfect ordinary tasks. He spent a brief time in the U.S. Army and also worked for Dixie Corporation in Rome, Ga. The U.S. State Department even offered him a teaching position in Nepal, but Keith chose to raise his family in the United States instead. He held a variety of jobs but spent the majority of his working years at General Motors as a tool-and-die maker. In his later years, Keith became an active member of Sunfield United Methodist Church. Throughout many difficulties, his church family encouraged and cared for him. Because of his faith, he had the hope of being reunited with his loved ones. Keith enjoyed spending winters in Cedar Key, Fla. and later in Gulf Shores, Ala., for as long as his health permitted. In his final days, he was blessed to stay in his own Saubee Lake home through the loving support of grandson Bill Wellman and Dawn Haight.
Funeral services were held at Sunfield United Methodist Church on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006. For those wishing, contributions in memory of Keith Wellman may be made to the Sunfield United Methodist Church, The Arc of Midland, or the charity of your choice: c/o RFH P.O. Box 36 Sunfield, MI 48890. Interment services were held at the Sunfield Cemetery following the service at the Church. Arrangements were made by the Independent Family Owned Funeral Home in Sunfield: Rosier Funeral Home.
Gregory E. Wells
Gregory Eldon Wells, 50, of Vermontville, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2006 as a result of an automobile accident. He was born Feb. 7, 1956 in Charlotte, the son of Clare and Wanda (Matheney) Wells.
Greg was a Charlotte High School graduate and worked for Midwest Machine Tool Service. Greg was a kind man and cared very much for his family and friends. He loved drag racing and riding motorcycles.
He was preceded in death by his father and his dog, Louie.
He is survived by daughters, Nikki (Alex) Hughes of Williamston, Jessie Wells of San Francisco, Calif., Sarah Wells of Vermontville; granddaughter, Ava Hughes; mother, Wanda (George Riddle) Wells of Charlotte; sisters, Terri (David) Thrun of Nashville, Sabrina (Mark) Keene of Phoenix, Ariz., Sherri (Craig) Kleis of Indianapolis, Ind.; and brother, Bryon (Lauri) Wells of Charlotte.
Funeral services were Nov. 17 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Rich Mitterling officiating. Interment was at Bosworth Cemetery in Olivet. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to a fund to be established for Greg's daughter, Sarah Wells.
