Jacquline A. Welsh
Jacquline A. Welsh, 80, of Marshall, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2006. Mrs. Welsh was born Aug. 18, 1926 in Detroit, the daughter of John and Margaret Edna (Durfey) Roberts.
Mrs. Welsh enjoyed playing euchre but especially liked taking care of her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd; and daughters, Diane Myers and Deborah Sutberry.
She is survived by her sons, Jerald Welsh and Kenneth Welsh, both of Lansing; daughter, Joyce (David) Lilly of Charlotte; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and four sisters.
Funeral services were Oct. 19 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with Bob Smith officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. If desired memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.

Carla G. Wertz
Carla Gene Wertz, 70, of Charlotte, died Saturday, March 25, 2006, at home surrounded by her family, following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Wertz was born November 29, 1935, in Vermontville, Michigan, the daughter of Kenneth and Dorothy (Briggs) Powers.
She had been a bookkeeper for the Eaton Intermediate School District for 31 years prior to her retirement. She belonged to the Stock Club, her class reunion committee and was a 40 year member of the Women's Bowling League in Charlotte.
She is survived by her husband Dennis of 51 years; daughters Deniece (Bill) Kellogg of Grand Ledge, Darci (Ron) Swinton of Charlotte, Deanna Wertz of Olivet, and Darla (Troy) Scott of Mulliken; grandchildren Mikel, Corie, and Billy Kellogg, Dustin Scott and Deni Swinton; brothers Richard (Pam) Babcock of Olivet and Robert (Marvelyn) Babcock of Helena, Montana, along with many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 29 at Pray Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Babcock, Sr. and Rev. Robert Babcock, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m., Tuesday. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association Great Lakes, Michigan Chapter. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Phyllis E. West
Phyllis E. West, 82, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, March 2, 2006.
Mrs. West was born Dec. 31, 1923 in Vanderbilt, the daughter of Everett and Florence (Lewis) Davis. Mrs. West was a former Wave of World War II, a homemaker, and involved in the Eaton Special Riding program. She was known as “Grandma Phyllis” when she worked in daycare from 1989 to 1992. Mrs. West enjoyed traveling to Germany and Europe with her mother and then later by herself. She loved family reunions and playing cards.
She is survived by: son, Mel West of LaPorte, Ind.; daughter, Alana (Mike) Stahl of Eaton Rapids; grandchildren, Scott West, Christopher Sand and Adam Sheets; brother, Leonard (Marion) Davis of Eau Claire, Wis.; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held March 4 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Carol Spangenburg officiating. Interment was at Ft. Custer Cemetery, Augusta.
Wayne A. Wheaton
Wayne A. Wheaton, 93, formerly of Vermontville, died Saturday evening, May 6, 2006, at a Lansing hospital. Mr. Wheaton was born March 24, 1913 in Hillsdale, a son of Guy and Vera (Ames) Wheaton.
A retired farmer, he was a member of the West Sebewa Church of Christ and a trustee on the Sunfield Township Board for 31 years.
His wife, Elois, and brother, Cecil, preceded him in death.
Surviving are two sons, Winston of Stanton and Wendell (Ann) of Grandville; a daughter, Valerie (Jay) Burrows of Shelby; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Joyce (Ron) Sterling of Farmington Hills.
Services were held May 10 at Barker-Leik Funeral Home, Mulliken, with John Piercefield officiating. Interment was in Sunfield Cemetery. Pallbearers were Clifford Burrows, John Burrows, Andrew Hipkiss, Wendell Wheaton, William Wheaton and Winston Wheaton.

Irene I. (Tyler) Whitaker
Irene I. (Tyler) Whitaker, 85, of Charlotte, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006 at her residence, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Whitaker was born June 18, 1920 in Walton Township, Eaton County, the daughter of Rice and Pearl May (Pettibone) Tyler. She had been employed at the former Wilcox-Gay Co. in Charlotte, in addition to being a full-time homemaker, and was a member of Ainger Bible Church.
Surviving are: two daughters, Jacqueline Carter (David) Ames and Connie Whitaker (Herbert) Ames, both of Charlotte; three sons, Steve (Diane) Whitaker of Bellevue, Rodney (Vicki) Whitaker of Charlotte and Dan (Michelle) Whitaker of Potterville; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; and special niece, Dorleen Wells.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Harold Carter and Harold Whitaker; sons, Jerry Carter and Virgil Carter; daughter, Jean Carter Fuller; and 10 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held Feb. 1 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Scott Brood of Ainger Bible Church officiating. Interment was at Center Eaton Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Dialysis Unit at Hayes Green Beach Hospital in Charlotte.
William W. White
William W. White, 80, of Charlotte died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, March 9, 2006 at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility. Bill was born in Cleveland, Ohio on Aug. 2, 1925 to Robert and Laura White.
Bill was proud to have served his country in the Armed Forces as an airplane mechanic during World War II. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he attended Grand Rapids Junior College and went on to graduate from the University of Michigan.
Bill married the love of his life, Nancy J. Steiner on Aug. 20, 1949. Nancy preceded him in death in December of 2004. Bill retired from Amoco Oil Co. in 1981 after 28 faithful years as a professional sales manager. He then went on to own and operate the White House Music Store in downtown Charlotte.
Bill was actively involved in the community, including his service as a city councilman and as mayor of Charlotte, the Rotary Club, the EATRAN Board of Directors, Charlotte Board of Education, numerous Congregational Church groups, the Masonic Lodge, and as a Little League coach and Boy Scout and Campfire volunteer.
In addition, he was a huge proponent of the Charlotte Skate Park, served as the city’s official Santa Claus for nearly 50 years, and was Charlotte’s biggest Michigan fan. “Go Blue!”
Surviving are his children, James (Bobbie) White of Lowell, Elizabeth (Rod) Fuller of St. Johns, and Susan Klassen of Duck Lake; grandchildren, Jason (MaryAnne) White of Lowell, Ryan (Heidi) White of Altadena, CA., Lisa and Alex Fuller of St. Johns, and Paige, Janna and Drew Klassen of Duck Lake; great-grandchildren, Abby and Emma White of Lowell; brother in law, Ford Byars of Fla. Bill was blessed with many special friends, especially “Uncle” Floyd and Pat Burley and all of the people at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility.
Also preceding him in death is his sister, Marge Byars.
Visitation will be held at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home on Monday, March 20 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday, March 21 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 22 at the First Congregational Church UCC in Charlotte with Rev. Phil Hobson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church of Charlotte, Eaton Community Hospice or the Parkinson Foundation.
George E. Whitinger
George Edgar Whitinger Jr., 89, of Lyons, also of Lake Panasoffkee, Fla. passed away Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006 in Leesburg, Fla. He was born May 31, 1917 in Fargo, N.D., the son of George E. Sr. and Isabelle C. (Cochran) Whitinger.
George served his country in the US Army during World War II. After he returned he moved to the U.P. where he and his wife ran a motel, he also worked on the ferry boats at the Sault, and also was a taxi cab driver.
Then the couple moved to Texas, and then they moved back to Michigan and made their home in Lyons, then after the death of wife Cora Luella Whitinger in 2000, he moved down to Lake Panasoffkee, Fla. to live with his daughter, Mary.
Mr. Whitinger was preceded in death by his wife Cora; children, Larry A, Melvin, Mike, and Cora Lee; one granddaughter, Sheri Jo; one great-granddaughter, Casey.
He is survived by children, Wanda (Cecil) Cook of Potterville, Mary (Frank) Wilkinson of Florida, George E. of Burlington and Joyce (Robert) Schultz of Grand Blanc; 19 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Oct. 12 at the Rosier Funeral Home, Mapes-Fisher Chapel, Sunfield, with the Rev. Robert Crouch of the First Baptist Church in Charlotte officiating. Military rites and committal services will follow the service at the Funeral Home at the Sunfield Cemetery.

Irene L. Willard
Irene L. Willard, 76, of Charlotte, died Saturday, June 17, 2006. Mrs. Willard was born Aug. 8, 1929, the daughter of Clifford and Mary (Wilson) Clark.
Irene was a life long resident of Charlotte. She is known to most people as the owner of McGrath-DeFoe Printing Company of Charlotte, where she worked until nearly the last day of her life. Irene was a Past Honored Queen of Bethel No. 1 Charlotte Job's, Daughters International and a lifetime member of the Maple City Chapter No. 218 Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a Past President of the Charlotte Country Club Women's Association. She volunteered as a Campfire Leader for both of her daughters groups and supported her boys through her involvement in the Boy Scout program. She always took a supporting role in both community and family projects, preferring to work behind the scenes to help. Irene especially enjoyed her work, time spent with her family, whether it be at home or at their cottage, and sharing evenings with her dearest friends of her local Bridge Club.
She is survived by her children, Steven (Patricia) Willard of Charlotte, Kenneth Willard of Charlotte, Karen Willard of Grand Rapids, and Susan (Dennis) Wages of Charlotte; and her five grandchildren, Erik, Stacey and Alex Willard, and Benjamin and Katelynn Wages.
She was preceded in death by her husband George in 1997 and brothers James (Josephine) Clark and Nelson (Norma) Clark.
Funeral services were held June 20 at Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church. Reverend Vern Summers and Reverend Kendall Lewis officiated.
Memorial contributions may be made to Christmas Kiddies and Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church. Interment followed at Maple Hill Cemetery.
