LaVern R. ‘Ike’ Williams
LaVern R. “Ike” Williams, 76, of Charlotte, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006 at Marshall Manor in Marshall.
Mr. Williams was born May 29, 1929 in Eaton County, the son of Grant and Helen (Fox) Williams. He was an active member of Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church and the Methodist Men’s Club. He enjoyed bowling and was a familiar figure around town as he helped out local businesses.
He is survived by brothers Robert (Laura Mae) Williams of Florida and Edwin Williams of Charlotte, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Feb. 28 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Karen Wheat officiating. Interment was at Gresham Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church.
Robert G. Williams
Robert G. Williams, 82, of Palmetto, Fla., formerly of Charlotte, died June 19, 2006. Mr. Williams was born Sept. 20, 1923 in Charlotte.
He was an equipment operator for the City of Palmetto and a bus driver for Charlotte Public Schools before moving to Palmetto in 1970.
He was preceded in death by his brother LaVern Williams.
Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Laura Mae; daughter, Nancy Williams; one grandchild and brother, Edwin Williams.
Visitation was held June 30. If desired memorial contributions may be made to a Hospice of your choice.

Cindy L. Winchell
Cindy L. Winchell, 48 of Portage passed away Monday, March 6, 2006 at home in Portage. She was born June 26, 1957 in Lansing, the daughter of Chester and Louise (Dubendorf) Franks.
She married Melvin “Tom” T. Winchell II, on June 6, 1999 in Charlotte. He survives. Among Cindy’s interests were flower gardening, crocheting, creating stained-glass art and basically any kind of needle work. She loved to travel and would go SCUBA diving any time she had the chance. Cindy simply loved and lived life.
She is also survived by her parents; stepson, Michael Winchell; father-in-law, Melvin Winchell; siblings, Jack Franks, Tina Munro, Scott Franks, Renee Franks and Joy Franks.
A gathering was held at Community of Christ Church in Charlotte March 11.
Memorials may be directed to the Greater Hospice of Kalamazoo.

Laura A. Winkler
Laura A. Winkler, 93, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, Dec.13, 2006. Mrs. Winkler was born June 21, 1913 in Alma, the daughter of William and Anna (Amon) Speer.
Mrs. Winkler was a school teacher who retired as a social worker for the State of Michigan. She loved to travel and shared her love of sewing with many others by making their brides and bridesmaid dresses.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Catron; second husband, Carl Brown; third husband, Jack Hartzell; her daughter, Ruth Carey in 2006; parents; three sisters; two brothers.
She is survived her daughters, Beverly Smith of Charlotte, Anne (Robert) O'Brien of Lansing and Mary Jo Krosky of Florida; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and lots of nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service was held Dec. 16 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Kathy Smith officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Barry - Eaton Hospice.

James D. “DJ” Witherell
James D. "JD" Witherell, 72, of Eaton Rapids, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006, in Eaton Rapids. James was born Feb. 17, 1933 in Wyandotte, the son of Charles Eugene and Doris Ethel (Wirebaugh) Witherell.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served in the U.S. Navy. JD retired from General Motors in 1985 after 32 years of service, was a Committee Man for UAW Locals 652 and 1753, was an avid Michigan Wolverine fan and loved to fish and camp up north.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Wanetta Smith in 2004; three brothers; and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Hilah L. (Harmon); children, Michael (Cindy) Hansen of Leslie, Terry (Terry) Hansen of Charlotte, Tina Leabold, Debbie Witherell both of Owosso and James (Kelli) Witherell of Vernon; lots of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Leon (Dolly) Witherell of Grayling; sister, Jeannie Wilcox of Flint; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Nov. 16 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids with Pastor Mark Michalcewicz officiating. Interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery, Eaton Rapids.
Joyce J. Wixson
Joyce J. Wixson, 77, of Albion, passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2006 at Foote Hospital, Jackson.
Born Dec. 18, 1928 in Albion, she was the daughter of George and Josephine (Grundeman) Williamson. Mrs. Wixson had been employed at Eaton Corp. in Marshall for 26 years. She belonged to the Coldwater Sweet Adelines Club, Jayco Jay Ganders Camping Club, Albion Hospital Service League and the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church in Charlotte. Joyce enjoyed volunteer work at her church and was a blood donor for many years. She was also a talented flower arranger and cake decorator.
Survivors include: two daughters, Brenda Wineman and Jose Wixson, both of Albion; two sons, Edward “Bunke” (Brea) Wixson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Chuck (Jeanne) Wixson of Albion; aunt, Evelyn Russell of Spring Arbor; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were three brothers, Albert, Dick and George Williamson.
Funeral services were held Feb. 14 at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, Albion, with Rev. Kendall Lewis officiating. Interment was at Albion Memory Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Coldwater Sweet Adelines or American Red Cross.
Donna Jean Wood
Donna Jean Wood of Stanton, MI formerly of Eaton Rapids, age 66, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2006 in Tuscon, AZ. Donna was born September 20, 1939 in Lansing, MI. She retired from GM in 1998 after 30 years of service, was the Queen Mother of the Red Hatter’s Society and loved bingo, gambling, traveling and the cottage up north. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence E. Wood, Sr. (2004); grandson Justin James Ward (2001); mother, Mattie “Peggy” Nevins and sister, Candy Smith.
Donna is survived by 3 daughters, Kathy (Randy) Ward, Kim (Larry) Keith both of Leslie and Kelly (Jeff) Donaldson of Mason; 5 sons Lawrence “Larry” Jr. of St. Johns, Terry of Lansing, Steve of Laingsburg, Doug (Beth) of Mason and Richard “Rich” (Jennifer) of Leslie; 10 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; father, Lyle Sr. of Holt; 3 brothers, Lyle Nevins Jr. of Chicago, Roger Nevins of Mason, Jim (Carol) Nevins of Holt; several nieces, nephews and her beloved dog, Cookie.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. today at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, Interment will follow at Onondaga Cemetery, Onondaga. .
Gayle A. Woodbeck
Gayle A. Woodbeck of Charlotte, 84, died Wednesday March 29, 2006.
Mr. Woodbeck was born November 7, 1921 in Vermontville, the son of Perle and May (Whitney) Woodbeck and had been a Charlotte resident since 1939. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a life member of Maple City Post #2406 V.F.W. and was a member of the First Congregational Church UCC in Charlotte.
He had been employed at the Wilcox-Gay Co. and the Aluminum Extrusions/Hoover Group, where he retired after 36 years of service.
Gayle is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen (Skogmo) Woodbeck; 4 children, Dave (Peggy) Woodbeck, Alan Woodbeck, Barb (Dan) Martin and Judy (Chris) Tuller all of Charlotte; 9 grandchildren, Bryan (Susan) Woodbeck, Jason (Angie) Cove, Joel Cove, Celena (Matt) Bruch, Carli (Trevor) Bulmer, Charlie Martin, Steven (Liz) Martin, Jeremy and Lacie Tuller; 12 great grandchildren, Matthew and Courtney Woodbeck, Britney and Briana Lashley, Alec, Mitch and Zane Cove, Gage Bruch, Noah and Elsa Martin, Kaden Kelly and Avery Tuller.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jack, Harold, and James Woodbeck; sisters, Vaneita Simpson and Letha Brown; great granddaughter, Laura Woodbeck and granddaughter, Candace Woodbeck.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2006 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, with Rev. Philip Hobson officiating.
Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Congregational Church UCC or Eaton Community Hospice.
