Dorothy C. Young
Dorothy C. (Morrison) Young, 81, of Duck Lake, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006.
Dorothy was born May 22, 1925 in Gladwin, the daughter of John and Jennie (Nettleton) Morrison and had been a resident of the Duck Lake area since 1951. She was a 1944 graduate of Olivet High School, was a former 4-H leader/parent, had been a member of the Mother’s Club at Hunt School, was a member of the Clarence Cemetery Association with her husband and had served as cemetery sexton for the Clarence Township Cemeteries.
Surviving are: her husband, Earl “Mike” Young; one daughter, Elizabeth (Jon) Griffin, of Charlotte; one son, Mark Young, of Springport; three grandchildren, Jon (Marion) Griffin Jr., Allison Griffin and Dana (Matt) Hewlett; 13 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Claudia Smith, of Quincy, Janice (Don) Barnett, of Olivet, Sandra (Harry) Smith, of Coldwater and Carol Sue Morrison, of Albion; two brothers, Francis Morrison, of Lansing and Roger (Pat) Morrison, of Saginaw and two sisters-in-law, Ida Belle Morrison and Ellen Morrison, both of Charlotte.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Tim Young; sister, Janette Gruel and brothers, Ernest, Harry and Egbert Morrison.
Private services will be held.
Memorial contributions may go to the American Cancer Society.

Margaret E. Young
Margaret E. Young, 44, of Potterville, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2006. Mrs. Young was born April 10, 1962 in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Willard and Naomi (Bolen) Tyria.
Mrs. Young was employed by the Wal-Mart Corporation. Margaret enjoyed fishing, she would like to catch 'em and not eat 'em, and drag racing. She also collected Angels.
She is survived by her husband, Roger; son, Dakota; daughter, Amanda Werstein of Taylor; stepson, Jeremiah Robbins of Bath; three grandchildren; mother, Naomi Main of Okemos; sisters Linda Ogston of Lansing and Naomi Carpenter of Nashville.
Funeral services were held Oct. 6 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with Pastor Mark Woodbury officiating. Interment was at Maplehill Cemetery in Charlotte. Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Carl E. Youngs
Carl Eugene Youngs of Charlotte, 90, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2006. Mr. Youngs was born April 10, 1916 in South Haven, the son of Don A. and Ida (Zessin) Youngs and was a lifelong Charlotte resident.
He was a graduate of Charlotte High School, where he excelled in athletics. He was the catcher in baseball, center on the football team, was a leading scorer in basketball and also participated on the track team. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a member of the VFW, was involved in Boy Scouts and had coached Little League Baseball. He had been employed by the Fisher Body Division of General Motors in Lansing for 30 years.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen King, Frances Ray and Audrey Estep.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Jane (Fuller) Youngs; son, Carl (Patricia) Youngs II of North Barrington, Ill.; daughter, Kathleen Marie (James R.) Rush of Verona, Wis.; six grandchildren, Kelly Marie (Jason) Wright, Heather Suzanne (Bryan) Mjaanes, Shannon Elizabeth (James) Shanahan, James Carl (Wendy) Rush, Daniel Joseph (Hillary) Rush and Michael Paul Rush; seven great-grandchildren, Connor Martin Wright, Kaitlin Elizabeth Wright, Charlie Youngs Mjaanes, Zachary Carl Mjaanes, Carly Elizabeth Shanahan, Christopher James Rush and Megan Julee Rush; one brother, Charles (Marge) Youngs of Potterville.
Funeral services were held Aug. 4 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Rev. Phillip Hobson officiating.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimers Association.
Theo E. Zakora
Theo Elizabeth Zakora, 82, of Charlotte, died Sunday, Jan 22, 2006.
Mrs. Zakora was born March 14, 1923 in Eaton Rapids, the daughter of Earl and Rachel Hyatt. Mrs. Zakora ran Grandma’s Daycare for many years.
She is survived by: her children, Mary Ann Allen of Bellevue, Joe (Millie) Zakora of Charlotte, Jack (Deb) Zakora of Charlotte, Penny (Jack) Rider of Nashville, Larry (Judy) Zakora of Charlotte, Iris (Bub) Stadel of Florida; daughter-in-law, Judy Zakora of Florida; 25 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Pete Zakora; son, Frank Zakora; grandsons, Daniel Tuckey and Chuck Hadley III; and great-grandsons, Devon Kikendal and Chuckie Hadley-Whitson IV; and two brothers, Fred Hyatt and Joseph Hyatt.
Funeral services were held Jan. 25 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Arthur Salisbury officiating. Interment was at Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army and Disabled American Vets (DAV).
Ileta Zank
Ileta Zank, 19, of Charlotte, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006.
Ileta is survived by her precious daughter, Avry Zank; husband, Mikel Zank; mother, Lorene Clouse; father, Steve Clouse; brother, Dustin Clouse; Grandmother "Mema" and Grandfather, Ronald Crook; her aunt and best friend, Danielle Dolson; uncle, Ray Dunn; cousin, Chelsea Dunn; and plenty of other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
Ileta lived each day to be with her family and beautiful daughter, who was the highlight of her life. Ileta's smile brightened every room and lifted everyone's spirits. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Martha H. Zemke
Martha Helena Zemke, 94 of Battle Creek, formerly of Vermontville, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2006. Miss Zemke was born Sept. 15, 1911 in Eaton County, Michigan, the daughter of Richard A. and Edith E. (Smith) Zemke.
Martha graduated from Vermontville High School in 1929 and received a bachelor’s degree in 1933 and her masters degree in 1953, both from Western Michigan University.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister-in-law, Reinhart and Polly Zemke, and sisters Irene E. Zemke and Margareta B. Zemke.
Martha, a pioneer in education for women, had 41 years of teaching and counseling experience in Vermontville, Nashville, Ionia, Albion and Bay City. She was the first female president of the Michigan Education Association in 1966-67.
Upon retiring from teaching she returned to the family farm in Vermontville. Martha held the honor as one of the oldest members of the Vermontville First Congregational Church, which was a major influence in her daily life. In addition, other positions and honors in her life included: Past member and president of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Vermontville Historical Society, Vermontville Garden Club, Vermontville Women’s Club, and Vermontville Ladies Christian Association and Eaton County Retired Teachers Association. Martha was recognized in 1980 for her contributions and accomplishments for the Village of Vermontville by the Historical Society. She was presented the Vermontville Maple Leaf Award in 1984 and presented with the Vermontville Maple Syrup Festival Honored Citizen Award in 1992 and received the Golden Apple Award from the Maple Valley Alumni Association. She was also honored as Woman of the Year by Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Upsilon Chapter, in April of 2003.
She is survived by four nieces and one nephew, Edith Grashuis of Hastings, Margaret Cook of Vermontville and Mary L. Zemke of Battle Creek and Jeanne and Durwood Booher of Battle Creek; grand nieces and nephews, Polly and Randall Hagar, Doug and Michelle Booher, Reinhart (Rob) Cook, Deedee and Mike Michaux and Steven Cook; great grand nieces and nephews, Paul and Victoria Hager, Charlie Booher and Kirkland and Grace Michaux.
Funeral services were held May 2 at First Congregational Church in Vermontville, with Pastors Sally Nolen and Israel Young officiating.

Eldo A. Zirkle
Eldo "Pops" Alfred Zirkle, 65, of Potterville, formerly of Centreville, passed away Monday, Sept. 18, 2006 in Lansing, as the result of a bicycle/bus accident in Potterville. Eldo was born January 16, 1941 in Marion, Ind., the son of Von Audley and Blanche Edna (Draper) Zirkle.
He was a former truck driver in auto transport. "Pops" was known in Potterville for driving his bike around town and was loved by his neighbors who have filled the town with signs of remembrance.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Ulric Zirkle.
Eldo is survived by his former wife, Susie Zirkle of Amboy, Ind.; daughter, Julie (Jon) Orr of Eaton Rapids; two sons, Bradley Zirkle of Peru, Ind. and Randy Zirkle of Amboy, Ind.; three grandchildren, Bryan Zirkle, Mallory and Trey Orr; brother, Zimri (Pat) Zirkle of Marion, Ind.; sister-in-law, Shirley Zirkle of Fairmount, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no services at this time.
