Phyllis D. Conroy
Phyllis Darlene (Schlee) Conroy, 49, of Potterville, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004.
Mrs. Conroy was born May 10, 1955 in Jackson, the daughter of Carl and Sally Schlee. Phyllis loved and spoiled her grandchildren. She enjoyed writing letters and always had a listening ear. She loved her cat, enjoyed dancing and crocheting Afghans.
She is survived by her parents, Carl and Sally Schlee of Potterville; sons, David Hogarth, Frank Hogarth and Corey Hogarth; six grandchildren; brothers, William Schlee, Dennis Schlee, Kenneth Schlee and David Schlee; sister, Carol Schlee; and half-brothers, Richard and Mike Green.
She was preceded in death by first husband, Rick Wagner; daughter, Alicia Wagner; biological mother, Barbara Van Epps; and a sister, Susan.
Funeral services were held Oct. 8 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Gregory Brown officiating. Interment was at Deepdale Memorial Gardens in Lansing.

Justin A. Converse Sr.
Justin A. “Judd” Converse Sr., 83, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at his residence.
Mr. Converse was born Oct. 14, 1920 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Ray and Helen (Partridge) Converse. He retired in 1977 from Fisher Body in Lansing, and was a member of UAW Local #602 and the Lansing Moose Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie in 2000, and his son David in 1994.
Surviving are two sons, Justin (Jan) Convese of Sante Fe, N.M., and Donald (Carole) Converse of Leslie; five grandchildren, Judd (Brenda) Converse, Tina (Jim) Brayton and Jackie Converse, all of Charlotte, and Shelly (Bob) Whipple of Leslie and Tammy Howe, both of Leslie; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Dulcie Morris of Lansing; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held June 21 at Glendale Cemetery in Okemos.

Loyd S. Cooper
Loyd “Buck” S. Cooper, 82, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004 at Moore’s Country Living in Charlotte.
Mr. Cooper was born June 14, 1922 in Missaukee County, the son of the late Leo Cooper and Abigail (Letts) Cooper. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was an inspector at Oldsmobile before his retirement in 1987. He was a member of American Legion Post #42, and a former member of the Michigan Sheriff’s Association, and enjoyed puttering around his home and trips up north.
He is survived by special friends, Jack and Kimberly Stults of Charlotte; daughters, Sandra Ellen Trussell of Georgia and Kristie (Leon) Cooper Aldridge of Niles; brother, Loyal Cooper of Kalkaska; four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette, in 1998.
Funeral services were held Oct. 5 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with R. Raymond Rossell officiating. Interment with military honors followed at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

Velma E. Coplin
Velma E. (Whittington) Coplin, 96, of Sturgis, formerly of Olivet, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004 at LaGrange Community Hospital, LaGrange, Ind.
Velma had been in the Life Care Center in LaGrange since April 18, 2004. She was born Oct. 8, 1908 in Casnovia, Mich., the daughter of Ernest and hazel (Moore) Whittington. She married Bernard Coplin on Dec. 6, 1930. She was a homemake and had been a librarian at Kimball Library of Battle Creek, and had worked at Post Cereals of Battle Creek during World War II. She was a graduate of Ferris State College.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Coplin, and two sons, Velburn and John Coplin.
Surviving are son, Paul (Dorothy) Coplin of Sturgis; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Jan. 3 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Rob Van Engen officiaiting. Interment was at Bosowrth Cemetery in Olivet.

Helen M. Corbin
Helen Mary Corbin, 87, of Vermontville, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004 in Hastings.
Mrs. Corbin was born July 3, 1916 in Burlington, the daughter of Frank and E. Ruth (Philips) Conine. She worked for the Battle Creek Sanitarium, Percy Jones Hospital, NuMode Hosiery and Corbin Orthopedic Appliance. She was a member of First Congregational Church of Vermontville and Kalamo Order of the Eastern Star #399.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Bill) Mason of Vermontville; step-sons, Charles (Connie) Corbin and Robert (Sherri) Corbin, both of Battle Creek; two grandchildren, Tamira Lynne (Kurt) Mockridge and Rebecca Anne Mason (Barry Byington); great-granddaughter, Kylynne Taneil Mockridge; brother, Orval (Margaret) Conine of Delton; and nephews, Orval W. Conine and John A. Conine, both of Delton.
She was preceded in death by husbands Franklyn Richmond in 1957 and Paul Corbin in 1981.

Margaret L. Courtright
Margaret Leone Courtright, 89, of Grand Ledge, formerly of Charlotte, died Dec. 13, 2004 at St. Lawrence Hospital.
Mrs. Courtright was born July 6, 1915 in Charlotte, the daughter of A. Harold and Ruby (Sprague) Phillips. She had been a supervisor for the state of Michigan Treasury Department for many years, a member of the Charlotte Country Club for more than 50 years, and a member of the Congregational Church. She enjoyed bridge, cards, golf and bowling, and was an avid Tiger baseball fan.
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Lynne (David) Johnson of Haslett; son, John P. Courtright of Lansing; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and brother, Carroll (Marilin) Phillips of Marshall.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Bruce Courtright, on April 21, 1997; and her sister, Leora Allen on April 21, 2004.
A memorial service was held Dec. 17 at Pray Funeral Home, with Pastor Phil Hobson officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Ethlyn J. Cramer
Ethlyn J. “Pete” Cramer, 79, of Mulliken, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 4, 2004 at an Eaton Rapids hospital.
Mrs. Cramer was born March 25, 1924 in Sebewa Township, a daughter of Ernest and Zora (Ward) Johnson. She was a retired employee of Owens-Illinois in Charlotte.
Surviving are her husband, William; daughter, Jan Cramer of Waverly, Tenn.; son, William Cramer Jr. of Hastings; three grandchildren; sister, Marlene (Sam) Collizzi of Richmond, Va.; brother, Gordon (Marguerite) Johnson of Eaton Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Feb. 7 Barker-Leik Funeral Home in Mulliken, with Pastor Judy Scholten officiating. Interment was at Meadowbrook Cemetery.

Patricia A. Crandall
Patricia Ann Crandall, 69, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004.
Mrs. Crandall was born July 6, 1935 in Charlotte, the daughter of the late Maurice Wilson and the late Josephine (Catey) Wilson. She was known to many students, as a home economics teacher at Charlotte High School for two years and as an English teacher at the Junior High School for the remainder of her 25 years with Charlotte Public Schools. She was a member of First Congregational Church, where she belonged to the Blanche Moyer Circle. She was an active member of the GFWC Charlotte, helping on the Mobile Meals program and singing in the Women’s Club Chorus.
She is survived by her husband, James Crandall; daughters, Krystn (G. Scott) Waddell of Richardson, Texas, and Paige Crandall of Seattle, Wash.; sons, Eric (Eva) Crandall of Charlotte and Scott (Donna) Crandall of Saint Petersburg, Fla.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and brother, Jim (Lola) Wilson of Charlotte.
Memorial services were held Dec. 4 at First Congregational Church of Charlotte.
