Helen C. DePue
Helen Cleyone DePue, 95, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004.
Mrs. DePue was born July 7, 1909 in Benton Township, the daughter of Harry and Lizzie (Austin) Larke. Helen enjoyed gardening, reading and crossword puzzles. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors, Farm Bureau, Needmore Cemetery Society, REA and Charlotte Saddle Club.
She is survived by son, Dee “Terry” (Paulette) DePue of Charlotte; daughter, Linda (Phillip) Austin of Charlotte; 10 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald “Johnnie”; grandson, Steven; great-grandson, Lance; sister, Jessie; and brother, Donald.
Funeral services were held Sept. 4 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Lester DeGroot officiating. Interment was at Needmore Cemetery in Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice.
Reuben F. Detweiler
Reuben F. Detweiler, 33, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004 as a result of a traffic accident near Gallatin, Mo.
Reuben was born Oct. 31, 1971 to Freeman and Emma (Gingerich) Detweiler in Trenton, Mo. He was a resident of the Jamesport area. Reuben worked for DJK Construction for five years. He was an avid rodeo fan and could be found at rodeos across the country. He took much price in his bull-riding profession and was known for his ability to train horses. He was often referred to as the “local horse whisperer” and will be remembered for his kind and gentle way. Reuben’s daughter, Amanda, was the pride and joy of his life. Reuben was a member of Professional Bull-riders of America and the National Federation of Professional Bull Riders.
Survivors include his parents, Freeman and Emma (Gingerich) Detweiler of Charlotte; companion, Katherine Gingerich of the home; daughter, Amanda Rose Detweiler of the home; five brothers, Johnny, Henry, Robert and Toby Detweiler of Charlotte, and Andy Detweiler of Jamesport, Mo.; five sisters, Betty Davis of Cookville, Texas, Sarah Ann Bontrager of Lee, Fla., Martha Yoder of Wichita, Kansas, Katie Mae Hostetler of Jamesport, Mo., and Anna Stutzman of Clarita, Okla.; and his grandfather, Tobe Detweiler of Jamesport, Mo.
Funeral services were held Dec. 4 in the Tri-County High School auditorium in Jamesport, Mo., with Bro. Jesse Cass and Rev. Ron Ratliff officiating. Interment was at Pilot Grove No. 2 Cemetery in Jamesport, Mo. Pallbearers were David Kurtz, Mervin Beechy, Danny Joe Gingerich, Ezra Gingerich, Mervin Mast and Daniel Kauffman.
Memorial contributions may be made to a trust fund set up for his daughter, Amanda, at Home Exchange Bank in Jamesport, Mo. Arrangements were by McWilliams Family Funeral Homes Inc. of Jamesport, Mo.
Maurice E. Devenbaugh
Maurice Edward Devenbaugh, 88, of Charlotte, died Sunday, May 23, 2004 in the Eaton County Medical Care Facility.
Mr. Davenbaugh was born Jan. 7, 1916 in LaPorte City, Iowa, the son of Walter and Lillian (Hansen) Devenbaugh. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from Skilled Trades at Oldsmobile in 1974 after nearly 34 years. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, a volunteer for Helping Hands, and was a former Boy Scout master in Grand Ledge.
He is survived by his wife, Theda (Loveland) Devenbaugh; daughters, Janet (Bruce) Carpenter of Charlotte, Norma Jean (Albert) Sharp of Alma, June (Marshall) McIntire of Eaton Rapids, Jolene (Terry) McCullough of Lake Odessa, Kolene (Dennis) Dubendorf of Bradenton, Fla.; sons, Jerry (Candace) Devenbaugh of Grand Ledge, Joel (Deb) Devenbaugh of Lansing; 22 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Josephine Brown of Frederick.
He was preceded in death by hi son Gary in 1950 and grandson Brad in 2002.
Funeral services were held May 26 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastors Glenn Neal and Duane Royston officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Nazarene in Charlotte. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Wilma D. DeWalt
Wilma D. (Bloom) DeWalt, 94, a resident of Wesleyan Health Care Center and formerly a 20-year resident of Colonial Oaks Retirement Center, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004 in Wesleyan Health Care Center, Marion.
Wilma was born May 15, 1910 in LaFontaine, Ind., the daughter of the late Edward Bloom and Pearl (Boswell) Bloom. She graduated from Marion High School in 1928. She was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church of Marion, participating in the Christian Women’s Fellowship, and served as a deaconess. She was a member of the former Phi Chi Epsilon Sorority and Hospital Auxiliary. She was a homemaker and a den mother for the Cub Scouts of America. Her hobbies included, sewing, fishing, cooking, flower gardening and playing bridge.
Survivors include son, Ronald (Adelle) DeWalt of Erie, Pa.; daughter-in-law, Jean (Ballard) DeWalt of Charlotte; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Paul DeWalt; a son, Ivan DeWalt (husband of Jean); brothers, Dr. A. Ward Bloom and Therron Bloom; a sister, Roanna (Bloom) Clark; and a granddaughter, Janet DeWalt (daughter of Ronald and Adelle).
Services were held Aug. 13 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, Marion, Ind.

John W. Dickinson
John W. Dickinson, age 86, of Eaton Rapids died Saturday April 24, 2004 in Lansing. John was born September 16, 1917 in Calhoun Co, MI, the son of Wesley K. & Martha (Mason) Dickinson. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Eaton Rapids, for 58 years. John retired from 70 years of farming in 1998, was a former Eaton Rapids Township Supervisor (retiring in 1981), a life member of Eaton Rapids Masonic Lodge #63 and Past Patron of OES # 241. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and storyteller. John was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Stella Slade, Marion Morgan, Edith Bohn and daughter-in-law, Marilyn Dickinson.
John is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy L. (Knapp); children, John Duane (Barbara) Dickinson of Dayton NV, David J. Dickinson of West Covina, CA, Donald E. (Roberta) Dickinson of Flushing, Anne (Roger) Dickinson-Nurmi of Lapeer, foreign exchange student daughter, Kamal (Prakash) Gopwani Mahtani of Barbabos, West Indies; former daughter-in-law, Bette Stark; 8 grandchildren, Dick (Kimberly) Dickinson, James Dickinson, Julie (Martin) McClure, Diana Dickinson, Heather (Dan) Hundt, Gina Nurmi, Pryia (Varun) Maharaj Kiran Mahtani; 12 great grandchildren; brother, Kenneth (Jean) Dickinson of Spriong Arbor and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids with Pastor Tom Evans officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1:00-3:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Those desiring may make contributions to the Eaton Rapids First United Methodist Church in memory of John W. Dickinson.
Raymond G. Dickinson
Raymond George Dickinson, 69, of Vermontville, passed away Friday May 7, 2004 at his residence.
Mr. Dickinson was born May 11, 1934 in Vermontville Township, to his parents Glenn and Velma (Bosworth) Dickinson. Raymond became a friend to many in the area through his 32 years at Citizens Elevator in Vermontville, where he retired as the assistant manager. Raymond was an avid bowler in past years play8ing on the local Good Fellowship League in Charlotte for a number of years. He also enjoyed traveling throughout the countryside and especially enjoyed camping. He also enjoyed spending time building things in his woodworking shop, many of which were decorated as craft items y his daughter, Robin.
Raymond is survived by his wife Ann (Aseltine); sons, Bradley (Paula) Dickinson of Middleville, Mark (Tami) Dickinson of Nashville; daughters, Joanne (Darrell) Clements Jr. of Nashville, and Robin (Chris) Miller of Hastings; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Dickinson was preceded in death by his first wife Faith (Walters) in 1989 and his brother Fred Junior in 1977.
Funeral services were held May 10 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. George Spease of Lake Odessa officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery in Vermontville.

Anna Lou Disler
Anna Lou Disler of Eaton Rapids passed away July 27, 2004. She was born Anna Lou Sullivan on March 1, 1925 in Greenfield, Tennessee, and later moved to Eaton Rapids where she met her husband George Disler.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband George Disler, and her mother Lorine Gilmore.
Anna is survived by one sister, Nomirece Holley of Eaton Rapids, and four children, Jery (Judy) Disler of Morley, MI, David (Carol) Disler of Battle Creek, MI, Mike (Debbie) Disler of Eaton Rapids, and Cindy (Leroy) Bashford of Lansing, MI and 9 grandchildren.
Arrangements were made by Skinner Funeral Home. Graveside services were held July 29th at Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids by Reverend Loris Allen.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Anna Disler.
Ray “Big Diz” Disney
Ray “Bid Diz” Disney, of Eaton Rapids, age 71, died January 27, 2004 in Eaton Rapids.
There will be no services. The family was served by Gorsline-Runciman East Chapel East Lansing.
Frances A. Dixon
Frances Amelia Dixon, 71, of Bellevue, died April 13, 2004 at Select Specialty Hospital.
She was born Oct. 22, 1932 to William and Dorothy (Stein) Schlyer in Plainwell, and she graduated from Bellevue High School. Frances married Robert Dixon in November 1951 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church; he survives. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, the St. Margaret Circle, and the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. She enjoyed her grandchildren, reading, church activities and her Bassett hounds.
Surviving are her husband, Robert; daughters, Marie Dixon of Springfield, Mo., Carol (Doug) McGavin of Ontario, G. Elizabeth (Rick) Ritchie of Battle Creek; sons, David (Joy) Dixon of Battle Creek, Charles Dixon of Bellevue, Andrew Dixon and his fiance’, Sabrina Lewis of Bellevue; six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; and sister, Wilma (Richard) Meyer of Rialto, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents and half-brothers, Thomas and Charles Stephens.
Services were held April 16 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, with Rev. Joy Rogers officiating. Interment was at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
Memorials may go to St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Arrangements were by Shaw Funeral Home.
