Lawrence A. Dolbee
Lawrence “Larry” A. Dolbee, age 88, of Aurelius Township, died Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at the Martin Luther Holt Home. Born May 17, 1915 in Aurelius Township, the son of Orby and Maude (Davis) Dolbee. Mr. Dolbee was a Navy veteran of WWII, a member of the Aurelius Baptist Church, member of the F. & A.M. Ledge #70 in Mason, and a member of the Carpenters Union #1449 of Lansing. Mr. Dolbee had worked for Horner Woolen Mills, Miller Dairy Farms and later as a carpenter for Christman Construction and prior to retirement had worked for Michigan National Bank as a carpenter. Upon retirement he moved to Cheboygan and later returned to Aurelius. Preceding him in death was a daughter, Marilyn Merindorf; parents; sisters, Margie Swanson and Ruby Goris.
Surviving are his wife, Muiretta of Holt; daughter, Carilyn (Claude) Slusser; son, Lawrence (Betsey) Dolbee Jr. all of Mason; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday, January 26, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Burial followed in the Greenwood Cemetery in Aurelius Township. Caroline C. Dooley
Caroline Cecilia Dooley, 82, of Charlotte, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004.
Mrs. Dooley was born Dec. 7, 1921 in Winnepeg, Canada, the daughter of Karl Kirstian and Nagdalina Irene (Jung) Albert. She lived in Chicago, Ill., and met and married her husband, Daniel Vincent Dooley on May 5, 1945. She was an opera singer and both she and her husband performed with the Silo Singers in the Lansing area for many years. Before her retirement she worked for the University of Michigan technical services department at the Lansing Library. At the time of her death she was a resident of The Harbor at Charlotte. She is survived by daughter, Deborah (William) Drescher; son, Brian Dooley; grandchiulfren, Maia Cheli of Acadia, Calif. Justin Dooley of Lansing; two great-grandchildren; and loving nieces, Loretta (Carl) Rose of Glenview, Ill., Linda Koko of Cleveland, Ohio, and Nancy Prouse of Keysborough, Australia, as well as two nephews, Peter and Douglas Young of Illinois. Funeral service was hald Aug. 30 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rechtor Monique Ellison officiating. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery in Delta Mills.
Margery K. Douma
Margery K. (Holwerda) Douma, of Charlotte, died June 29, 2004. She was born Nov. 4, 1931.
Margery was a dedicated mother and homemake for her husband Gerrit and their children, Susan Dixon of Kalkaska, Thomas (Mary) Douma of Charlotte, Karen (Fritz) Domres of Charlotte and Patricia (David) Christian of DeWitt, and loving grandmother of nine grandchildren. She was one of the original members of Charlotte Christian Reformed Church, where she devoted much of her time and energy from the 1960s through the 1980s before illness limited her involvement. She was a counselor for the Calvinettes, a young girls’ organization at the church. Serving as the head counselor for five years, she participated in the annual vacation Bible school for many years, played piano accompaniment for Sunday services and Wednesday-evening prayer meetings, and was always ready to plan and organize potlucks and other church functions. Margery was employed as manager of Jamestown Apartments during the late 1980s and early 1990s, was an Avon representative in the 1970s and provided loving childcare in her home for the children of working parents for a number of years. She also participated as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and for the Helping Hands organization. Margery will be remembered by her family for the warmth and security of home she proved for over 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her father, George Holwerda, and her mother, Margery Holwerda.
Memorial contributions may be made to Eatn Community Hospice or CRWRC.
Funeral services were held July 1 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
Raymond Alan Dove
Raymond A. Dove, age 45, of Ann Arbor and formerly of Eaton Rapids and Chelsea, died unexpectedly Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at his residence. He was born August 1, 1959 in Ann Arbor, the son of Harold and Lee Dove. Ray was a graduate of the Eaton Rapids High School class of 1977. He owned and operated a Hair Salon for several years in San Francisco. Currently he was an Assistant at Washtenaw Community College in the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management program and also worked for Weber’s Inn in Ann Arbor.
Surviving are his parents, Harold and Lee Dove of Eaton Rapids; 4 siblings, Robert (Eilene) Dove of Charlotte, Kathy (Ed) Greenleaf of Chelsea, Ken (Oksun) Dove of Eaton Rapids and Don (Mary) Dove of Mason; several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, December 13, 2004 from St. Peter Catholic Church in Eaton Rapids with Fr. Ben Constantine as celebrant. For those desiring memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Building Fund or to a charity of one’s choice.
Max Mills Dowker
Max Mills Dowker, 81, of Charlotte, died Oct. 29, 2004 at his residence.
Mr. Dowker was born March 17, 1923 in Charlotte, the son of Thomas and Lois (Mills) Dowker. He served his country in the Air Force during World War II and was a n automotive machinist and partner in the Bosworth-Dowker Garage, which later grew into Dowker Engines, currently operated by his sons. He was well known in racing circles and was a leader in the field for his work with titanium in racing engines. He had been inducted into the Michigan Motor Sports Hall of Fame and had set many United States Auto Club (USAC) world half-mile circle track records.
He is survived by his wife, Helen (Stukey) Dowker; sons, Duane “Butch” Dowker of Charlotte, Terry (Peggy) Dowker of Eaton Rapids; and a grandchild, Tony Dowker.
He was preceded in death by sisters and brothers, Lynn, Lucille, Ray, Helen and Robert.
Funeral services were held Nov. 2 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Sally Nolen officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Lung Association. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Alfred E. Drewyor
Alfred E. Drewyor, 73, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2004.
Mr. Drewyor was born Dec. 10, 1930 in Tecumseh, the son of Elmer and Esther (Roberts) Drewyor. Alfred was a brick tender then an ironworker for Local #340. He loved making walking canes and fishing – especially ice fishing. He enjoyed camping with his wife and hunting mushrooms. He liked working in his yard and loved to tinker. He was an avid NASCAR fan of Ryan Newman #12.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Drewyor; son, Richard (Debbie) Drewyor of Suffolk, Va.; daughters, Linda Card of Richmond, Va., Peggy (Steven) Palser of Nebraska, Patricia (Lawrence) Conarton of Holt; son, Stephen (Cheryl) Drewyor of Lansing; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sister, Josephine Champaign of Nashville; brothers, Robert Drewyor of Eaton Rapids, and George (Marian) Drewyor of Martin.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Esma June Smith and Mary Shafer, and a brother, Elmer Drewyor.
Funeral services were held Oct. 14 at Charlotte Assembly of God, with Rev. Mark Woodbury officiating. Interment was at West Carmel Cemetery, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Rebecca Ann DuBois
Rebecca Ann DuBois, of East Lansing, formerly of Eaton Rapids, age 29, died Thursday, December 16, 2004 in East Lansing. Rebecca was born October 13, 1975 in Eaton Rapids, the daughter of Karen Sue (Andreas) and Kip DuBois. She graduated from Eaton Rapids High School in the class of 1993 and was formerly employed at VanAtta’s Greenhouse. Rebecca was preceded in death by her father, Kip and her grandfather, John Andreas.
She is survived by her mother, Karen; grandmother, Arlene Andreas, both of Eaton Rapids; grandparents, John & Jane Theverkauf of Florida.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 20, at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids with Pastor Tom Evans officiating. Interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery, Eaton Rapids and casket bearers were Stan Swift, Chad Woodman, Clinton Harmon, Ernie Woodman, Mark Higdon and Gregory Higdon.
Alpha E. Dymond
Alpha E. “Al” Dymond, 84, of Charlotte, died Sunday, May 23, 2004.
Al was born Oct. 19, 1919 in Lansing, the son of Alpha E. and Martha Jane (Lutes) Dymond of Charlotte. He graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1937. He was a veteran of World War II, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army with the 669th Engineer Topographic Company and 566th Engineer Company. He served in Hawaii, the Philippines and Japan. He also served in the Michigan National Guard for three years. Mr. Dymond was a partner throughout life with his wife, Ruth, and they owned and operated Al Dymond Color Service for 35 years until its’ closing. He was devoted to his home in the country and was a loving father and to his children and grandchildren. He was a life member of VFW Post 2406 and a member of the Lansing Area Printing and Graphics Club. At 15, he became a member of the Lansing Symphony Orchestra and had a life-long love of music. He enjoyed gardening, his apple orchard and playing his accordion.
He is survived by daughters, Diane and Cindy of Charlotte, Crystal Noecker of Lansing, Grace (Jeff) Ueberroth of Dimondale; son, Garry Dymond of Lansing; brother, Eldon Dymond of Charlotte; brother-in-law, Charles Spagnuolo of Lansing; grandchildren, Dawn (Chris) Sweet, Rachelle Noecker, Jason and Kyle (Sara) Dymond, Charlie and Maggie Ueberroth; great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Trevor Sweet.
He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Faith Dymond, in 1990; his wife Ruth in 1999 and sisters Letha Denihan in 1990 and Nacoma Spagnuolo in 2000.
Funeral services were held May 27 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with George Howe officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte, with full military honors.

John Durkovic
John Durkovic, 84, of Grand Ledge, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004.
Mr. Durkovic was born Aug. 15, 1919, the son of John and Katrina Durkovic. He was a farmer and a real estate agent. He had been a member of the Mint Association and a member of local chapters of the Czechoslovakian Society of America in Lansing and Owosso. Mr. Durkovic enjoyed bowling, fishing, golf, gardening and dancing. He was also a life member of Potterville Lodge #346 F&AM.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Emily (Tomecek) Durkovic; daughter, Kathleen (Les) Roberts of San Diego, Calif.; son, Jack (Linda) Durkovic of Citra, Fla.; grandson, Brent Durkovic of San Diego; granddaughter, Angela (Craig) Harrolson of Tampa, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held June 11 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating, and a Masonic service was also held.
