Lawrence E. Eggleston
Lawrence Edward Eggleston, 77, of Charlotte, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004.
Mr. Eggleston was born Aug. 5, 1927, in Lansing, the son of Edward and Florence (Cowls) Eggleston. Lawrence served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for General Motors, retiring in 1988. He enjoyed working on small engines and loved his big garden and helping his neighbors.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Nancy (Stricker) Eggleston; daughter, Nancy (Kevin) Wiltse of Charlotte; son, Dale (Jewel) Eggleston of Spring Hill, Fla.; son, Mark (Linda) Martin of Charlotte; daughter, Charlene (Dan) Thaxton of Charlotte; son, Wayne (Samantha) Moist of Lansing; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert (Diane) Eggleston of Texas, Garry Eggleston of Lansing; sisters, Marge (Dick) Krahn of Wisconsin, and Helen “Kay” Wells of Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by brother, Donald Eggleston and sister, Pat Hammond.
Memorial service was held Aug. 26 at First Baptist Church, Charlotte, with Pastor Robin Crouch officiating. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery, Kalamo Township.
Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Richard L. Eggleston Sr.
Richard L. Eggleston Sr., 78, of Charlotte, formerly of Marcellus, passed away Friday afternoon, Oct. 29, 2004 at his residence.
He was born July 25, 1926 near Marcellus, the son of Charles W. and Jennie M. (Swartz) Eggleston. On Oct. 13, 1944 in Marcellus, he married Vivian R. Deal, who preceded him in death Sept. 23, 1996. He had been a resident of Charlotte since 1966, and prior to that of Marcellus and Kalamazoo. He retired from the wGrand Truck Railroad after 39 years as foreman of the sexton crew.
Surviving are one daughter, Donna (Donald) Brandon of Charlotte; two sons, Richard J. (Joyce Bogart) Eggleston and Billy D. (Sandra) Eggleston, both of Charlotte; five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathleen Davis; one son, Keith L. Eggleston; one sister, Doris Trieber; and one brother, Kenneth Eggleston.
Funeral services were held Nov. 2 at Mater Funeral Home in Marcellus, with Rev. Raymond Hess, pastor of Trinity Bible Church, officiating. Burial followed at Marcellus Cemetery.

Joseph J. Eichinger
Joseph J. Eichinger, 87, of Vermontville, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004.
Mr. Eichinger was born March 23, 1917 in Kersey, Colo., the son of Joseph and Helen (Riffner) Eichinger. He grew up in the Nashville area, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following the war he worked for Proctor and Gamble in Chicago until returning to the Vermontville area to fulfill his dream of owning a farm. He was a local dairy farmer for most of his life. Joe was an avid bowler, participatingin many local leagues at Charl-Lanes over the years. He also enjoyed following Tiger baseball.
He is survived by his daughter, Diana Eagleson of Pleasant Ridge, and a granddaughter, Elaine.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda (Wenc) Eichinger, in 1994.
There will be no services. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Ruby Mae Ekins
Ruby Mae Ekins, age 84, of Onondaga, died May 9, 2004. Ruby graduated from Eaton Rapids High School in 1938, and married George Ekins on August 19, 1939. Ruby was a homemaker, she loved canning and baking. She also worked for Eaton Stamping for 23 years. After retirement, Ruby and George loved to travel to Florida each winter. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, George, and four brothers.
Surviving are four sons, Richard (Eleanor), Larry (Diane), Steve (Suzanne) and Ronald (Sheila), one daughter, Donna (John) Kapustka; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, four sisters, two brothers and numerous nieces, nephews and cousin.
A celebration of Ruby’s Life will be held at the Leslie Bible Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor William Chapman officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Aurelius Township. The family will receive friends at the J.C. Adams Funeral Home, Leslie Chapel on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Lala M. Elliott
Lala Mae Elliott, 71, of Potterville, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Elliott was born Nov. 20, 1932 in Cumberland County, N.C., the daughter of Lonnie and Cartha Jane (Edwards) Reaves. She always enjoyed taking care of her family and her flowers. She loved playing the piano and collecting angels.
He is survived by her husband of 50 years, Gerald; daughters, Brenda Elliott of Potterville, Diane (Roger) Moening of Charlotte, Dawn Yvonne Powell of Harrison, Sherry Lynn (Jeff) Humes of Sunfield; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene Eason of Branch County, N.C., Viola Warren of Smithfield, N.C., and Sarah Caffero of Safety Harbor, Fla.
Funeral services were held March 20 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Lloyd Scharer officiating. Interment was at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Lansing.

Mary Elliott
Mary V. Elliott, 86, of Charlotte, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004.
Mrs. Elliott, affectionately known as “Aunt Mary”, was born July 2, 1918 in Culpepper, Va., the daughter of Wayne and Rose (Summ) Long.
She was a member of Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church and worked for Eaton Farm Bureau for many years. Aunt Mary was an avid sports fan, enjoyed playing cards and was known for her hardy laugh.
She is survived by nephew Richard (Mary Lou) Schneckenberger of Charlotte, brother Fred Long of Charlotte, and other nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Guy, second husband, Carroll L. Elliott, and brothers, Charlie, Harry, Tony and Tom Long.
Funeral services were held Dec. 22 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Kendall Lewis officiating. Interment was at Woodland Memorial Park in Woodland.

Bruce L. Ellison
Bruce L. Ellison, 70, of Saranac, formerly of Charlotte, passed away Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004 after a brief illness.
Bruce was born Aug. 13, 1934 in Lansing, the son of the late Loren Ellison and the late Marie (Loomis) Ellison. He was the owner/operator of a party store for many years and enjoyed helping people and working with his hands.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Ilene M. (Sharp) Ellison; two sons, Bruce (Mickie) Ellison Jr. of Belding, Brian (Michelle) Ellison of Lowell; daughter, Bonna Berge of Maryland; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by younger brother Robert Ellison who died in the Vietnam War; and son-in-law Steve Berge.
Graveside service was held at Maple Hill Cemetery on Oct. 9, with Pastor Mark Lipscomb officiating.

Glendora Mae Elston
Glendora Mae Elston, age 95, of Eaton Rapids, died Friday, November 5, 2004 at the Eaton Community Hospice in Charlotte. Glendora was born November 1, 1909 in Lansing, the daughter of Guy L. and Blanche (Birham) Disler. Glendora worked for Horner Woolen Mills for 11 years and the Eaton Stamping Co. for 29 years. Mrs. Elston attended the South Cochran Church of God in Charlotte. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Lee Russell Elston on July 25, 1994.
Surviving are four children, Lee R. (Shirley) Elston of Rome, Georgia, Barbara Elston of Albion, Kenneth W. (Delores) Elston of Jackson and Innis (Ronald) Eagen of Albion; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Irving Disler of Charlotte; two sisters, Lillian Lawrence of Battle Creek and Loris Allen of Eaton Rapids, special friends, Richard and Josie Efaw and special grandnephew, Jim Schnepp, along with nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held on Monday, November 8, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. The family was served by the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids.
