Michael D. Emenhiser
Michael Dean Emenhiser, age 37, of Charlotte, died unexpectedly Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004.
Mr. Emenhiser was born March 28, 1966 in Charlotte. He worked as a mechanic for UPS and was formerly employed with Spartan Motors for 10 years and as tool distributor, MATCO Mike, for five years. He enjoyed assisting with his children’s sports activities, custom welding, restoring and customizing his truck and was always helping others out.
He is survived by his wife, Katie (Wright) Emenhiser; daughter Casey, son Mickey, and daughter, Tia; parents, Jackie (Nolan) Spotts of Charlotte, Gary (Sharon) Emenhiser of Union City; mother and father-in-law, Milo and Karen Wright of Charlotte; sisters, Marilyn (Randy) Campbell, Cheri (Mick) Paton, Teresa (Wes Redfield) Ells, all of Charlotte, Teresa (Brian) Wright of Rock, Ginny (George) Nobbe of Indianapolis, Ind.; brothers, John (Lisa) Emenhiser, Todd (Kathy) Spotts, both of Charlotte; sisters-in-law, Cheryl (John) Miller, Carla (Gary) Firestone, both of Charlotte, Peggy (Jerry) Thacker of Springport; brother-in-law, Den (Foo) Wright of Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rex and Dora Wehr, Delmer and Nora Emenhiser, and niece Cierra Lopez.
Funeral services were held March 4 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Robin Crouch officiating. Interment was at Gresham Cemetery in Charlotte.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the family for the benefit of the children. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Linda J. Emery
Linda Jean Emery, 48, of Vermontville, died Sunday, May 23, 2004.
Mrs. Emery was born Aug. 18, 1955 in Hastings, the daughter of Richard Marshall and Helen DeMaio. She owned and operated Emery’s Adult Foster Care Home from 1992 until 2001, worked for Aluminum Extrusions/Hoover for 10 years and the Food Bank in Vermontville. She took care of her children and guided them with love and respect. She learned to play the mandolin beautifully and always retained her sense of humor.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene Emery; daughters, Lorraine Emery (fiancée Brent Fleck) and Janette (Jeremy) Shaffer; son Matthew Emery (fiancée Zanie Smith); grandchild, Alexandra Emery; mother, Helen (Frank) DeMaio of Charlotte; father, Richard (Carol) Marshall of Vermontville; brother, Scott C. (Laure) Marshall of Charlotte; niece, Amanda; and many aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were held May 26 at Grace Community Bible Church in Nashville, with Pastor Larry Fulton officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Vermontville.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Rex F. Endsley
Rex Frederick Endsley, 75, of Bellevue, died Sept. 6, 2004 at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo.
He was born Dec. 6, 1928 to Russell and Marjorie (Dingman) Endsley in Maple Grove Township. He graduated from Nashville High School in 1948 and worked as a heavy equipment operator for Cheney Limestone, retiring in 1995. He loved his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and spending time with his wife of 55 years. He also enjoyed wood working, camping, fishing and working in the garden.
Rex married Ivas (Manning) on July 30, 1949; she survives. Also surviving are children, Max (Connie) Endsley of Bellevue, Sue (Ray) Rintamaki of Riverton, Wyo., Jack (Betty) Endsley of Bellevue, Iris (Mike) Hebenstreit of Olivet, Eric (Janice) Endsley of Newberry and Penny (Paul) Crim of Bellevue; 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 14 step-great-grandchildren.
Services were held Sept. 10 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue, with Pastor Bob Homan officiating. Interment was at Wilcox Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements were by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
Harry A. Eno
Harry A. Eno, 74, of Charlotte, died Sunday, March 28, 2004.
Mr. Eno was born Aug. 16, 1929 in Lansing, the son of Thomas and Leola (Geller) Eno. He was a production line worker for Fisher Body for 35 years. He enjoyed his six grandsons, carving ducks, crossword puzzles, and playing Mexican rummy.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Genevieve (Wood) Eno; son, David (Carla) Eno of Lansing; daughters, Susan (Darin) Wilmore of Charlotte, and Jeanine Eno (Paul Wood) of Lansing; and six grandsons, Eric, Eron, Blake, Joseph, Justin and Cassidy.
Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Louis S. Eppley
Louis Stanley Eppley, 79, of Bellevue, died June 22, 2004 at home.
Mr. Eppley was born June 1, 1925 to Otto and Louise (Garrett) Eppley in Morgan County, Ohio. He served in the Army during World War II in the South Pacific, earning two Bronze Stars, and worked as a truck spotter at Owens Illinois for 26 years, retiring in 1990. After retiring he was a groundskeeper at the Medalist Golf Course in Marshall. Louis married Helen Daw on Aug. 3, 1946 in Greenup, Ky.; she survives. He was an avid hunter and especially enjoyed fishing.
Surviving are his wife, Helen, and son, Louis Wesley Eppley of Bellevue.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Herman Eppley, Dayton Eppley and Leonard Eppley; and sister, Dorothy Kirkendall.
Services were held June 25 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue, with Pastor Mark Thompson officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Bellevue United Methodist Church.
Mildred A. Etson
Mildred A. Etson, 89, of Olivet, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004.
Miss Etson was born July 4, 1915 in Walton Twp., Eaton County, the daughter of Frank and Alta Louise (Turner) Etson, and had been a life-long resident of the Olivet/Walton Twp. Area. She lived her entire life on the same farm location where she was born. She was a 1934 graduate of Olivet High School and was a member of Ainger Bible Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She had served as a senior companion at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility in Charlotte for 14 years. During World War II, Miss Etson worked in Detroit as a riveter in a Defense Plant in support of the war effort.
Surviving are two brothers, Calvin (Norma) Etson of Olivet and Elmer Etson of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Frank Wesley Etson, Albert Etson and Quintin Etson.
Funeral services will be held at 3p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Bob Homan officiating. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 p.m. until the time of services.
Martha A. Evans
Martha Allene Evans, 86, of Battle Creek and formerly of Bellevue, died Jan. 7, 2004 at Mercy Pavilion.
She was born Jan. 30, 1917 in Texas, the daughter of Floyd and Ermon (Roberts) Curtis. Martha worked as the head of housekeeping at Howard Johnson’s, in charge of hospitality for the Women’s League and in housekeeping at Riverside Manor. She married William T. Evans in May 1930 in Tennessee; he died in 1989.
She is survived by daughters, Jewell (Dale) Lindsay of Bellevue, Janie Swarthout of Ceresco; sons, Buddy (Jackie) Evans of Burlington, James (Shirley) Evans of Battle Creek and Charles (Dorothy) Evans of Longwood, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; brother, Albert Curtis of Nashville, Tenn.; sisters, Alma Lee Argo of Jacksboro, Tenn., Rhea Wheeler of Dayton, Ohio, and Helen Curtis of Spencer, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by son, Bill Evans and sister, Fay Edwards.
Services were held Jan. 13 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery in Kalamo.
Jacqueline L. Eubank
Jacqueline Lou “Jackie” (Ambs) Eubank, 65, of Bellevue, passed away peacefully at home Oct. 8, 2004.
She was born July 26, 1939 to Lucas and JoAnn “Rose” Ambs in Battle Creek and was raised by her grandmother, Orpha (Lampham) Moore. She graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1957 and married John Allen “Jack” Eubank on June 28, 1959. Her employment included Bell Telephone Company, Kellogg’s, Pennfield Schools, Bellevue Schools, Fruin Pharmacy, the former Adventist Hospital, St. Philip Catholic School and Marshall Schools. She spent the last five years caring for her three youngest grandchildren.
Jackie spent many years involved in various community activities. She will be remembered as the mom who never missed one of her children’s school events and the grandma who regularly attended events. She spent the most recent sport season as the Marshall High School girls swim team’s “Grandma”, helping to prepare meals before and after meets. She was always giving of herself and doing for others. In her last week of life, she and her husband had the opportunity to attend his 45th class reunion from BCCHS, she chaperoned a field trip, attended a soccer game and swim meet, and a school assembly. She was an avid frog collector and sold Avon. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, John Allen “Jack” Eubank; brothers, Eugene (Kathy), Michael (Mary), and Robert Ambs; children, David (Brenda) Eubank of Battle Creek, Becci Miller and Terri (Michael) Horn, both of Marshall, and Laura (Bill) Worth of Battle Creek; nine grandchildren, Ashley, Brent and Alyssa Eubank, Kristi and Kayla Miller, Tyler, Taylor and Mackenzie Horn, and Elizabeth Worth; and one great-grandchild, Abbigail Casarez.
Services were held Oct. 13 at Calvary Baptist Church, Pennfield, with Rev. Darwin Kuhl officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery in Bellevue.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bellevue First Responders or to the family. Arrangements were by Shaw Funeral Home.
