Robert L. Gidner
Robert L. Gidner, age 82, of Charlotte died Friday, August 27, 2004 at his residence. “Bob” was born June 9, 1922 in Eaton Township, Eaton County, the son of Leon and Lulu (Strickland) Gidner and was a lifelong Eaton County resident. He was a 1941 graduate of Charlotte High School, was an active member of the First Lutheran Church in Charlotte and was a lifelong farmer and retired employee of the Eaton Rapids Community Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys (Bailey) Gidner in 1993 and son, Roy Gidner in 1985.
Surviving are: his son, Bruce; daughters, Joyce and Alice all of Charlotte; grandchildren, Ryan Gidner of Olivet, Michelle (Adrian) Kiss of Charlotte; great-grandson, Shane Gidner of Olivet; brother, Keith (Ellen) Gidner and sister, Eleanora Jarrett both of Charlotte; sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Harry (Mary) Shawver of Portland, IN; nephew, Lyle (Kay) Gidner of Nashville, MI and several nieces and nephews of Michigan, Indiana and Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Pastor Timothy Olson of First Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in the Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. Memorial contributions may go to the Heartland Home Care & Hospice or to the First Lutheran Church.
Donald Warren Gilby
Donald Warren Gilby, age 72, was born August 28, 1931 and passed away on June 13, 2004 at his home in Eaton Rapids with his 3 surviving children by his side.
Donald was the owner of South Lansing Plumbing and Heating for 38 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Lansing Moose Lodge for several years, was an avid sailor, and loved to restore old cars in his spare time. He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years Harriet, and daughter Audrey Gilby.
Donald is survived by his 3 children, 2 daughters, Rene Cline of Mason, Carol (John) Campbell, of Eaton Rapids, son Eric Gilby of Eaton Rapids, 3 grandchilren Erin & Christopher Cline, Jennifer Campbell, several nieces & nephews, brother James Gilby and close and dear friend Millie. Donald was a good father, husband and grandfather and will be missed dearly. There will be no funeral service. There will be a memorial service for family and friends (to be announced) with interment in Deepdale Memorial Cemetery. The family would ask, in lieu of cards & flowers, that contributions be made to Ingham Hospice in Donald Gilby’s name.
Local arrangements were made through Skinner Funeral Home.
Gerald H. Gillett
Gerald H. Gillett, age 91, of Eaton Rapids, died Thursday, February 12, 2004 in Dimondale. Gerald was born January 14, 1913 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Herbert A. and Emmaline (Squires) Gillett. He was a member and former treasurer of the Eaton Rapids First United Methodist Church, scoutmaster and a former member of both the Eaton Rapids Lions Club and Kiwanis Club. Gerald served as the City of Eaton Rapids’ Clerk and Treasurer for many years and retired as the Eaton County Controller. Gerald was a past member of the City Council and was issued a Proclamation as the City Historian.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Lillian (Loomis); 2 daughters, Barbara (Randy) Bartholomew of Denver, CO, Nancy (James) Gill of Fresno, CA; 5 grandchildren, Jeffery and Gregory Bartholomew, Heather, Amy and Jimmy Gill; sister-in-law, June Gillett of NM; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Monday, February 16, 2004, at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Evans officiating. Interment followed at Rosehill Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to either the Eaton Rapids Medical Center Foundation or the Eaton Rapids First United Methodist church in memory of Gerald H. Gillett.
Lillian J. Gillett
Lillian J. Gillett, age 87, of Eaton Rapids, died Monday, February 23, 2004 in Dimondale. Lillian was born May 9, 1916, the daughter of Charles William and Bessie Berl (Ford) Loomis in Hillsdale, MI. She was a life long resident of Eaton Rapids, graduated in the Eaton Rapids High School Class of 1933 (Class secretary) and was a member of the Eaton Rapids First United Methodist Church where she had been an organist since the 1960’s, also singing in the Chancel Choir. She had also been an organist at the First Baptist Church and First Congregational Church in Eaton Rapids and was a long time member of the Tuesday Musicale. Lillian worked as a secretary for the Michigan Bell Telephone Co., the City of Eaton Rapids, the Wayne Gibson Ford Dealership of Eaton Rapids and the Eaton Rapids Medical Clinic.
Preceded in death by he husband of 66 years, Gerald, on February 12, 2004, she is survived by 2 daughters, Barbara (Randy) Bartholomew of Denver, CO and Nancy (James) Gill of Fresno, CA; 5 grandchildren, Jeffrey & Gregory Bartholomew, Heather, Amy & Jimmy Gill; sister-in-law, June Gillett of NM.
Funeral services were held on Friday, February 27, 2004 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home and interment followed at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Rapids Medical Center or the First Methodist Church in memory of Lillian Gillett.
Paulette M. Glaspie
Paulette M. Glaspie, 54, of Charlotte, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004 as the result of an auto accident.
Mrs. Glaspie was born Aug. 9, 1950 in Detroit, the daughter of Roy and Georgette Kraft and had been a Charlotte/Potterville-area resident since 1983. She was a member of the Mid-Michigan Mule & Donkey Association.
Surviving is her husband of almost 24 years, John E. Glaspie; daughter, Barbara Nomecos of Charlotte; two step-daughters, Janine (Dave) Cauthon of Horton and Dale Ann (Lonnie) Pardue of Denver, Colo. Step-son, John G. Glaspie of Royal Oak; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; her parents, Roy and Georgette Kraft of Southfield; and two brothers, Robert and David Kraft.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jason Nomecos, and a brother, Donald Kraft.
Funeral services were held Aug. 27 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Rebecca Morrison officiating. Interment was held at Roseland Memorial Gardens, Jackson.
Memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics Area 8.
Kiera Makayla Glassbrook
Kiera Makayla Glassbrook, age 21 months, of Springport, died Saturday, November 6, 2004 in Lansing. Kiera was born January 31, 2003 in Lansing.
She was a very loving daughter to Marc E. and Seana M. (Finch) Glassbrook of Springport and a loving sister to Jullian and Serina Finch. She is also survived by 3 aunts, Legaia Houck, Bristol Finch, Enjoli Glassbrook; grandparents, Walter and Denise Glassbrook of Eaton Rapids, James and Tawnya Finch of Eaton Rapids; great grandparents, JB & Dulcie Finch of Holt, Martha Maiers of Eaton Rapids, Marcia Richards and Thomas & Susan Richards.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids with Rev. Frank Klassen, Pastor of Eaton Rapids Wesleyan Church officiating. Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery.

Martin D. Goodwin Sr.
Martin D. “Marty” Goodwin Sr., 77, of Potterville, died Sunday, June 13, 2004 at his residence.
Mr. Goodwin was born Dec. 25, 1926 in Bridgeton, NJ, the son of Alan and Tillie (Stevens) Goodwin. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was a member of Chester Gospel Church, where he had served as trustee, VFW Post 23406 and American Legion #42. He retired from Owens Illinois Glass Company in June 1983 after 34 years of service. He enjoyed people, camping and collecting trucks and his John Deer Tractor.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Florence (Kiger) Goodwin; daughter, Peggy (David) Woodbeck of Charlotte; son, Martin (Janice) Goodwin Jr. of Potterville; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Candace Woodbeck; great-granddaughter, Laura Elizabeth Woodbeck; brothers, Alan, Henry and Robert Goodwin; and sister, Ethel Dooley.
Funeral services were held June 16 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Marc Livingston officiating. Interment followed at Millerburg Cemetery in Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to Chester Gospel Church, American Kidney Foundation or Eaton Community Hospice. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Elaine N. Gray
Elaine N. Gray, 66, of Bluffton, Ind., died Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at Lutheran Hosptial in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Mrs. Gray was born July 5, 1937 in Charlotte, the daughter of Lester and Leeta Parr Royston. She married Bud Gray on Feb. 8, 1958 in Charlotte; he survives. Mrs. Gray was co-owner of the AAA Acceptance Corp. for 18 years and was also a cook with Northern Wells Community Schools from 1971 to 1981. She was a member of the Markle Church of Christ.
Surviving are her husband, Bud; three sons, Kurt Gray of Markle, Bruce Gray of Tocsin and Michael Gray of Ossian; daughter, Denette Holmes of Bluffton; brother, Ernam Royston of Charlotte; two sisters, Anna Mae Conley and Sharon Miller, both of Charlotte; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held April 24 at Markle Church of Christ, with Pastors Mark Cleaveland, Gerald Moreland and Howard Cherry officiating. Interment was at Highland Park Cemetery in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Markle Church of Christ, 455 E. Morse St., P.O. Box 609, Markle, IN 46770. Arrangements were by Myers Funeral Home, Markle Chapel.
Ruth M. Grier
Ruth M. (Bryan) Grier, 93, of Charlotte, died Saturday, May 1, 2004 in Lansing.
Mrs. Grier was born April 24, 1911 in Brookfield Township, Eaton County, the daughter of Rex and Cecil (Hawley) Bryan and was a lifelong area resident. She was a 1929 graduate of Charlotte High School, attended Eaton County Normal and Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti. She was an elementary school teacher, having taught at the former Grammar and Southridge Schools in Charlotte, where she also served as principal, and was a social worker at Eaton Intermediate Schools in Charlotte, from where she retired in 1972 after 43 years of teaching. She was a charter member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a member and past matron of Maple City Chapter #218 OES, a member of the Antique Club and Eaton County Historical Society, was a former Carmel Township clerk, and was a member of First Congregational Church and its Mary Martha Circle. IN addition, she was a member of the Business Women’s Guild, a past president of Charlotte Women’s Club, a member of the HGB Hospital Golden Key Club and enjoyed playing bridge.
She is survived by her brother, Bruce (Shirley) Bryan of Hastings and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edman T. Grier, on Jan. 20, 2002; sisters, Beryl Wilkinson, Doris Byrns and Joan Bryan; and brothers, Dan and Ned Bryan.
Funeral services were held May 4 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Philip Hobson officiating. Interment was at Millerburg Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational Church.
