Brandy A. Lowe
Brandy Autumn Lowe, 21, of Potterville, died Oct. 11, 2004 in Lansing.
Brandy was born Sept. 25, 1982 in Lansing. In her younger years she loved her dance classes and Brownies. She attended Potterville High School where she enjoyed her involvement in sports – volleyball, softball, basketball, cheerleading and PAL’s. She had been a summer employee at 21st Century Plastics in Potterville. Brandy was currently enrolled at Grand Rapids Community College and had hoped to work in pediatric nursing. She was a member of the Potterville United Methodist Church.
Brandy is survived by her father David W. (Joan) Lowe; mother, Terry Lowe; brother, Lance William Lowe; grandparents, Virginia Lowe and Gloria Hickox; uncle, Richard (Olivia) Lowe; aunt, Candy (John) Vertalka; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by grandfathers, William C. Lowe and Robert L. Hickox, uncles Kevin R. Hickox and Charles A. Lowe, aunt Mary Margaret Lowe and cousin Elizabeth “Betsy” Lowe.
Funeral services were held Oct. 15 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Rebecca Morrison and Rev. Tom Peters officiating. Interment was at Benton Township Cemetery in Potterville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital.
Elizabeth M. Lowe
Elizabeth “Betsy” Mary Lowe, 24, of DeWitt, formerly of Potterville, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004.
Betsy was born Sept. 22, 1980 in Kalamazoo. She was currently attending Lansing Community College and had been a sales clerk for Burlington Coat Factory. She collected purses, enjoyed reading, loved spending time with her family and recently enjoyed a family trip to Las Vegas. She was always trying to help others.
She is survived by her parents, Candy (John) Vertalka and Richard (Olivia) Lowe; brothers, Alex (Staci) Lowe, Matt Lowe, Joe Vertalka; sister, Calli Lowe; grandparents, A.G. and Linda Twitchell and Virginia Lowe; aunts, Carrie (Kent) McConnell, Connie (Scott) Dueweke and Terry Lowe; uncles, Chris (Sharon) Twitchell and David (Joan) Lowe; and many cousins and friends.
The family would like to acknowledge the special friendship that Betsy enjoyed with her friend and cousin, Brandy Lowe.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, William Lowe.
Funeral services were held Oct. 15 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Tom Peters and Rev. Becky Morrison officiating. Interment was at Benton Township Cemetery in Potterville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Potterville Public Schools or the Capital Area Humane Society.
Floyd V. Lown
Floyd (Corky) V. Lown, 75, of Charlotte, died Saturday, April 3, 2004.
Mr. Lown was born Feb. 6, 1929 in Battle Creek, the son of Ross and Eva (Wright) Lown. Floyd married Mary M. Imes, Aug. 29, 1955; she preceded him in death July 5, 2000. Mr. Lown served in the U.S. Marines during World War II and the Korean Conflict and had been employed by Fisher Body as a welder, retiring in 1978. He enjoyed harness racing, hunting, fishing and trips to the casino.
He is survived by sons, James Lown of Eaton Rapids, Jeffrey Lown of Lansing, Jerry Lown of Hastings and Joey (Dawn) Lown of Door; daughters, Joanne (Harvey) Metzgar of Eaton Rapids, Janet (David) Pitts of North Carolina and Joyce Lown of Charlotte; grandchildren, Jennifer Sackrider, Bradley Pitts and Brittany Lown; sister, Betty Stoothoof of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and William Lown.
Funeral services were held April 6, with Rev. Arthur Salisbury officiating. Burial followed at Millersburg Cemetery.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Arthur L. Lumbert
Arthur Lorenzo Lumbert, 76, of Charlotte, died Sunday, March 7, 2004.
Mr. Lumbert was born Nov. 16, 1927 in Portland, the son of Harvey and Helena (Meyers) Lumbert. He married Winona “Pat” Watson, June 11, 1965 and she preceded him in death Oct. 20, 2003. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a truck driver for Eaton County Road Commission and a school bus driver for Charlotte Public Schools.
He is survived by daughters, Peggy (Rodney) Sellen of Bellevue, Penny Steketee of Haslett; son, Robert (Vickie) Lumbert of Nashville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren; sister, Helen (Harry) McDaniels of Mulliken; niece, Lorie (Roger) Smith of Vermontville; nephews, Claude (Sue) Hine of Vermontville, Larry Watson of Charlotte, Ron (Leslie) Hodges of Mulliken and other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Russ, Ken and Bill; and his sisters, Marion and Lorraine.
Funeral services were held March 10 at Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte, with R. Raymond Russell officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Claude A. “Lum” Lumbert, Sr.
Claude A. Lumbert, Sr., of Sunfield, formerly of Kalkaska, age 83, died April 2, 2004. Mr. Lumbert was born June 1, 1920 in Detroit, a son of Claude J. and Gladia (Sayers) Lumbert. Mr. Lumbert was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. Before moving to Sunfield a few years ago, Mr. Lumbert was a resident of Kalkaska for 40 years, where he was well known for setting up and maintaining ball diamonds and as an avid girl’s baseball enthusiast. He was a member of Sunfield United Methodist Church, V.F.W., Kalkaska American Legion and a former member of Garfield Country United Methodist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Thomas (Elizabeth) Lumbert, Charles (Marilyn) Lumbert, both of Eaton Rapids, Claude A. (Kathie) Lumbert, Jr. of Lansing, 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his long-time companion and friend, Rita Jo Ward.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, April 17, 2004 at Sunfield United Methodist Church, with Rev. Brain Sheen officiating. Military honors will follow at East Sebewa Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Barker-Leik Funeral Home, Mulliken.
Velma J. Lundy
Velma Jane Lundy, 72, of Charlotte, died Sunday, June 20, 2004.
Mrs. Lundy was born April 19, 1932, in Eaton Rapids, the daughter of George Wilford and Beulah Lorusa (Wiseman) Thuma. She was a member of VFW Post 2406 Auxiliary, American Legion Post 42 Auxiliary, a volunteer for Eaton County Genealogy Society and a lifetime member of the Charlotte Senior Center.
She is survived by sons, Barkley J.W. (Nita) Lundy Jr. of Rapid City, S.D., and Wilford John (Patrice) Lundy of Charlotte; daughter, Marie Ann (Jon) Brower of Sebring, Fla., Bonnie Kay (David Sr.) Bowles, Mary Jane (Robert) Anderson and Annette Louis Ferguson, all of Charlotte; 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; and sister, Yvonne Elizabeth Thuma (Gilbert) Somers of Phoenix, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Barkley J.W. Lundy, and son, Harold W. Lundy, both in 1995.
Funeral services were held June 23 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Charles Jenson officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and Charlotte Lions Club.
Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Donald W. Lupini
It is with great sadness that we inform our family and friends of the death of Donald William Lupini, age 55, of Eaton Rapids, who died on February 28, 2004 in the arms of his loved ones. He was blessed with a wonderful son, Douglas Dino (Lisa) Lupini and his adored granddaughters, Claire and Sophia. Don was loved and cared for by hi smother, Rosetta Wilkinson Cochran; his sister, Diana Gail (Richard) Johns; brother, Dean Edward (Laura) Lupini and sister, Judy (James) Potter. He was a favorite uncle to Lisa (Kyle) Campbell, Darin Lupini, Dawn (Keith) Kunkle, Kristina and Stacy Meredith. Donald was a great uncle to Nathan and Antoinette Foster, Rachel and Annamarie Campbell.
He will be missed by his best friend, Larry Orbell. Don would like to say a final farewell to his good friends, Joanne Baker, Tom and Nancy Jecks and all his good buddies at the local coffee shop. A very skilled third generation craftsman, Don trained in the European tradition as a marble and tile setter, built several local homes and passed his craft on to his son, and together they formed Euro Tile. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, especially out West with his brother Ed. In his memory, Doug and Ed will make on e more fide with Don. Although his life was short, he left his family many fond memories and a great legacy of dignity and pride in work and life. We will miss him.
A memorial service was held on Friday, March 5, 2004 at Grace United Methodist church with Pastor Gary Bekofske officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to either Hospice of Lansing or the American Cancer Society in memory of Donald W. Lupini. Arrangements by Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.
Edward A. McAllistar
Edward A. McAllistar, 88, died July 16, 2004.
Mr. McAllistar formerly lived on Plain Street in Eaton Rapids, and graduated from Eaton Rapids High School, class of 1934. Most of his years in forestry were in Colonial Heights, VA.
Surviving are a son, Edward, and daughter, Nancy K. Bishop of Thailand, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
