David L. Metzmaker
David Lynn Metzmaker, of LaPorte, Ind., formerly of Potterville, died Friday, June 25, 2004 in Indiana.
Mr. Metzmaker was born Aug. 7, 1951 in Lansing, the son of Raymond Howard and Dora (Raines) Metzmaker. David was employed by Whittaker Woods Community Resort. He loved dirt track racing at Mid-Michigan Raceway in Muir, his Harley and his work.
He is survived by five children, Andrea (Patrick) Miller of Grand Ledge, David Lynn (April) Metzmaker Jr. of Potterville, Kari (Lance) Kilpatrick of Alabama, Kelly (Jennifer) Metzmaker of Lansing, Howard Metzmaker (Ebani Bassage) of Bath; nine grandchildren; his father and his wife, Howard and Diane Metzmaker of Potterville; mother and her friend, Dora Metzmaker and Darwin Lamoreaux of Potterville; two brothers, Rick of Jasper, Rodney of Potterville; and his sister, Kristy of Texas.
A memorial service was held June 30 at Potterville United Methodist Church, with Rev. Becky Morrison officiating.
Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Julius J. Michael Jr.
Julius Jay Michael Jr., of Lansing, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004.
Mr. Michael was born Sept. 13, 1921 in Brookfield Township, the son of Julius Jay and Elizabeth (Toogood) Michael. He was a World War II veteran and a die maker at Aluminum Extrusions in Charlotte, retiring in 1985 after 21 years. He attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Lansing.
He is survived by sons, Gary Michael and Douglas (Helen) Michael, both of Olivet, Gerald (Dianne) Michael of Ocqueoc, James (Jean) Michael of Evart; daughter, Marilyn (Niles) Beardslee of Arizona; 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Feb. 10 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Dimondale, with Rev. Jim Mort officiating.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Betty R. Miller
Betty R. Miller, 74, of Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Charlotte, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
Betty was born Jan. 17, 1930 in Lansing, the daughter of Glenn and Marybelle (Balmer) Miller. She was a 1948 graduate of Charlotte High School and had been a member of the Charlotte Church of God. She had been emp0loyed by the former G.C. Murphy Dime Store and F. & J. Vending Co., both in Charlotte, and most recently was employed by the Owens-Illinois Glass Co. in Charlotte and then in Lakeland, Fla., from where she retired in 1990.
Surviving are her brother, Leroy (Marcia) Miller of Charlotte; sister, Harriett A. Miller of Charlotte; and nieces and nephews, Diana Bosworth of Charlotte, Terri Miller of Texas, Robin Miller of Florida, Wesley Miller and Larry Miller, both of Charlotte, Lynn Jensen of Sheridan, Ann Kiss of Florida and Pam Wendorf of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Al Miller.
Funeral services were held Nov. 12 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Helen M. Miller
Helen Maxine Miller, 81, of Potterville, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004.
Mrs. Miller was born April 12, 1922 in Charlotte, the daughter of Silas and Bernice (Lyons) Dickerson. She worked as a stock person for Carl’s Grocery Store in Potterville for many years, and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Helen loved to knit, crochet and enjoyed working on crafts.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Miller; daughters, Carole Brown of Woodland, Bonnie (Dwayne) Barber of Dimondale; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; brother, Jack (Betty) Dickerson of Eaton Rapids; and half-brother, Don (Sandy) Taylor of Eaton Rapids.
She was preceded in death by grandson Andrew Schultz and sisters Norma White and Vivian Shotwell.
Funeral services were held Jan. 13 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.

Loretta Miller
Loretta Miller, age 59 of Eaton Rapids, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother went to be with God on Wednesday, June 16, 2004. An avid bingo lover and gambler, she was also devoted to her friends and family. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lora Jane “Goody” Johnson (Thacker), her father, Estill Johnson, and her brother, Estill “Buddy” Johnson, Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Ken; 3 children, Janet (Fred) Davis of Eaton Rapids, Jimmy (Heather) Miller of Eaton Rapids, Jason (Margaret) Miller of Charlotte; 8 grandchildren, Justin, Jordan, Radian, Addison, Christopher, Autumn, Holden, and Drake; 4 sisters, Judy (Buddy)n Slone of Arizona, Tootsie Metcalf of Indiana, Phyllis (Dick) McCormic of Lansing, Ellen (Phil) Beam of Eaton Rapids; 2 brothers, Zestill Johnson of Eaton Rapids, Jack Johnson of Detroit and many very close personal friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 21, 2004 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.
Marjorie M. Miller
Marjorie M. (Powell) (Bauer) Miller, 93, of Charlotte, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004 at Hayes Green Beach Hospital.
Mrs. Miller was born May 9, 1911 in Brookfield Township, Eaton County, the daughter of Clarence and Mary Edna (Ball) Powell and was a lifelong resident of Eaton County. In her early years, she served as a telephone operator for Michigan Bell Telephone Co. in Charlotte, until 1947. She was a member and past president of the Charlotte Women’s Club a member of First Congregational Church and its Mary Martha Circle, and for years shared her ceramic hobby with friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Homer Bauer and Frank Miller; daughter, Peggy Cowling; son-in-law, Charles Cowling Sr.; and brother, Maynard Powell.
Surviving are six grandchildren, Charles (Darlene) Cowling Jr., Mary (Dwight) Miller, Debbie Cowling, Nancy (Kurt) Jones, Pauline Frost and Sue (Mark) Norris; great-grandchildren, Matt Norris, Brian Miller, Melissa Miller, Abby West, Jason Cowling, Shannon Brown and Amanda Hurst; great-great-grandchildren, Emily Norris, Ethan Norris, Kirklyn Miller, Jaden Miller, Brayden Cowling, Gregory Cowling and Noah West; niece, Sandy (Tom) Dexter; special friends, Jennie Norris, and Robert and Jeanne Carpenter; and special companion, “Kitty”.
Memorial services were held Aug. 17 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Darold Hill officiating.

Roger L. Miller
Roger Lee Miller, 65, of Springport, passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2004.
Mr. Miller retired from Spartan Motors in 1997. Prior to that he was employed at Diamond Rio. Roger enjoyed NASCAR races, traveling, hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family. He was a member of Springport United Methodist church and a lifelong member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Norma Miller; a sister, Marsha Miller; and a brother, Denny Miller.
Surviving are his wife, Eloise; children, Brett (Cyndi) Miller, Brian Miller, Ronda (Scott) Parish, Teresa (Bob) Morales, Charles (Irma) Cox, Barbara (John) Dukeman, Jacqueline (John) Claybaugh, Eloise Lundy, Edward (Irene) Lundy, Bonny (Brian) Weston, William (Ann) Lundy, Connie (Richard) Doty; 32 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held June 25 at J.C. Adams Funeral Home, Springport Chapel, with Pastor Keith Laidler officiating. Interment followed at Springport Cemetery.

Wilfred V. Miller
Wilfred “Pete” Vincent Miller, 88, of Charlotte, died Thursday, June 10, 2004.
Mr. Miller was born July 15, 1915 in Avoca, Mich., the son of Simon and Clare (Fenlon) Miller. He was an iron worker and 55-year member of Local 25, Detroit. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Charlotte. He enjoyed woodworking flower gardens and keeping busy by cutting the grass and clearing snow at Bonnie Brook.
He is survived by daughter, Joyce (Louis) Lenart of Detroit; step-son, John “Jack” (Dicey) Crabtree of Westland; seven grandchildren, 10n great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and brother, Donald Miller of Atlanta, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne “Smoke” Miller in 2002, and son Gordon Gerald “Buzzy” Crabtree in 1982.
Memorial services were held June 14 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Charlotte, with Rev. Dr. Carol Spangenberg officiating. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
William E. Milligan
William E. “Bill” Milligan, 66, of Vermontville, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2004 at Hayes Green Beach Hospital in Charlotte after a lifelong struggle with physical adversity and pain.
Mr. Milligan was born in Lansing on Jan. 20, 1938, the son of the late Clyde and Violet (Spilitte) Milligan, and graduated from Pine Lake School in 1959. He was the husband of Phyllis (Herriman) Milligan, whom he married in 1960 in DeWitt. The couple made their home in the Sunfield/Vermontville area, where together they raised their family. The couple had been married 44 years. Bill began his working career with Sears, where he worked in the watch and jewelry repair area until he was hired at Diamond Reo Trucks in 1960. He was employed for 13 years at Diamond Reo, where he worked as an engine test inspector until his retirement in 1973. Bill was a lifetime member of Nashville Baptist Church and an avid hunter and fisherman who truly loved being outdoors.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Aleina; son, Joe; daughter, Kelly; granddaughters, Samara, Danielle, Charlie Lynn; brother, Larry (Charleen) Milligan; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held March 30 at Nashville Baptist Church, with Rev. Lester DeGroot and Rev. Deano Lamphere officiating.
Arrangements were by Daniels Funeral Home of Nashville.
